[Bug 50977] Nautilus-X hardlock with drag and drop over SSH

2006-06-26 Thread John Moser
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Try this one:

1. Places-Connect to network server
2. Connect to an SSH share
3. Store your password in a keyring
4. Allow nautilus access once when connecting to the SSH share
5. Leave nautilus alone for 20 minutes-- so it loses access to the keyring
6. Open gedit
7. QUICKLY drag a file from the remote SSH to a local gedit

To get X to listen to you:

1. CTRL+ALT-F1
2. log in
3. killall gnome-keyring-ask

Nautilus still owns your mouse and keyboard, and gka is waiting for a
mouse click. No you can't tab and space it.

[Bug 39825] Re: Memory leak?

2006-06-26 Thread Dylan
I restarted my session yesterday, and haven't used FireFox at all. So
far, my system has not touched swap. Xorg is running a nice, lean 782m
virt (670mb res) vs. the over twice as much it was using within a few
hours of starting X yesterday.

Mozilla (1.7.8) does not seem to have the same leak bug that FF 1.5.x
has, thankfully.

[Bug 50979] Icon Rendering in folders with a large number of files

2006-06-26 Thread Matthew
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

In the latest version of the relevant packages in Ubuntu (as made
available by the default update servers), icons do not render past a
certain number of rows when viewing a folder. The best example is:
/usr/lib .

Scroll down to the bottom of the files, and observe that the icon names
are not rendering. Also, if you select an icon you can occasionally see
artifacts. (See screenshot)

This makes folder management extremely difficult.

[Bug 50981] Palm synchronization unreliable

2006-06-26 Thread thomas constans
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-pilot

for no apparent reason, synchronization between my palm zire 31 and
evolution has become so unreliable that it is now useless.

tasks (todo) synchronization failed completely with the following message:
'(gnome-pilot:4784): gpilotd-WARNING **: Copy from pilot failed!
** Message: time_file: synchronization to PDA = 0'

once in a while, when starting a synch, gnome-pilot will crash with the
following message:
'(gnome-pilot:4644): gpilotd-WARNING **: orbit_daemon_glue.c:1494 Exception:
IDL:omg.org/CORBA/COMM_FAILURE:1.0

gpilotd-Message: removing monitor on pilot for IOR:01
*** glibc detected *** free(): invalid pointer: 0x084c8228 ***'

i need to kill -9 gpilotd and restart it. then synchro work fine again.

so actually, to get it working, i have to: manually launch gnome-pilot
in a term, and restart it after every synch. Anyway, synching tasks
always fail.

Synch using pilot-link or jpilot works fine, that is why i am filing
this bug report against gpilot.

btw i am using a stock ubuntu kernel.

[Bug 48048] Re: could not install dapper with S1910 Eizo-Monitor

I've seen the Problem already exists. I have reinstalled Dapper on a PC

this line under DEVICE (Option DDCMode.

I think you have to do something, because no S1910 User will use Dapper.
In forums i've heard from few Persons with the same Problem. Do

i *didn't* encounter this bug when installing from the kubuntu Dapper

[Bug 35573] Re: No localizations available

2006-06-26 Thread Olivier Cortès
Another confirmation on official Kubuntu Dapper CD (live/install):
during installation, i choose french. The install goes fine. After
rebooting, KDM is in English, but the KDE session is in French (mostly).

If I manually put Language=fr_FR in /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc, KDM speaks
french.

I think it should detect it automatically from ENV : /etc/environment
sets the global system language, it should be sourced in /etc/init.d/kdm
and them KDM could detect $LC_ALL or $LANG ? this is the way GDM does,
it falls back to english or C only if $LANG is not set, or set to a
wrong value.

[Bug 50988] Evolution crashes when printing dayview

2006-06-26 Thread Patrick Cornelissen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

This also works for fresh new users:

Start evolution, import for example the programm of the froscon
(www.froscon.de) and try to print the detailed day view.
The Print dialog appears and when you press the print button, evolution crashes
and throws this assertion:
***MEMORY-ERROR***: evolution-2.6[10487]: GSlice: assertion failed:

(Maybe you can skip the import part and just enter something by hand)

[Bug 45928] Re: High error rate on UMTS modem

2006-06-26 Thread Christophe Charlot
Maybe i've found something here :

http://www.timberwolf.ukfsn.org/debian-orange-3g.html

I also have problems with lots of ppp0 rx errors when I use the 3G card
and I think this may be due or contributed to by the ACPI code. My
workaround, to reduce the rx errors, is to disable the ACPI with the
kernel parameter acpi=off. I have two menu items in my grub's menu.lst
file to either boot kernel 2.6.13-ck1 with or without ACPI.

I'll try this (I still don't know how to disable ACPI), and keep you
advised.

  scim | 1.4.4-1ubuntu12 | file: dapper/main Packages

so this works just fine. Did you really try to upgrade to the released
dapper? Maybe you used an older CD or you need to 'sudo apt-get update'?

  1. Install the package londonlaw from the Dapper repositories.
  2. Choose London Law from the games menu. It will not run (related: it has

  3. Attempt running either london-client or london-server from the command

[Bug 50990] Applications quit unexpectedly when typing letters or numbers in a textbox - every time

2006-06-26 Thread monomaniacpat
Public bug reported:

I first came across this bug after changing some keyboard shorcut
settings for my Microsoft Comfort edition keyboard (connected via USB
and PS2 (tried both). I have since turned all shortcuts off, to no
avail.

If I open an administrative program like Network Settings or Synaptic
and try to type a letter or a number, the program quits, although it is
still present on the bottom panel. This problem also occurs with
bluefish and openoffice writer (probably all openoffice progs) and I
can't enter a chat room name in IRC with gaim without the program
quiting. Same goes for the text entry box in chat.

This problem only occurs in gnome - KDE works fine.

Also: this occurred about 1/2 hour after dist-upgrading from breezy to
dapper. The only problem I had was I forgot to uninstall firestarter
(didn't realise it was installed) which meant that the update program
quit without finishing the installation. I continued after uninstalling
firestarter using the terminal.

[code]sudo apt-get dis-upgrade[/code]

Thanks.

Patrick.

PS. someone on the #ubuntu channel suggested it might be a GTK2 problem.

[Bug 49269] Re: installing server variant from alternate, file not found

2006-06-26 Thread Jorge E. Gomez
I ran into this same bug while using the DVD ISO
(ubuntu-6.06-dvd-i386.iso).

I should also point out that I tried the installation kernels from the
DVD (/install/netboot/ubuntu-installer/i386/linux) as well as the ones
found in
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/dapper/main/installer-i386/current/images/netboot/netboot.tar.gz/netboot.tar.gz

Everything points to the security update (USN-292-1) from june 9th; for
some reason the installer expects the upgraded binutils version.

[Bug 23252] Re: Ubuntu default boot splash is now kubuntu!

2006-06-26 Thread AllanEising
I think it's the lack of the following lines, which are found in the
usplash postrm script:

#!/bin/sh

set -e

if [ $1 = remove ]; then
update-initramfs -u
fi

This should force a recreation of the ramdisks. This line is in usplash
postrm, but not in kubuntu-artwork-usplash, oddly enough the following
script is in the postinst of the kubuntu-artwork-usplash package:

case $1 in
  configure)
update-alternatives --install /usr/lib/usplash/usplash-artwork.so
usplash-artwork.so /usr/lib/usplash/kubuntu-splash.so 50
[ -x /usr/sbin/update-initramfs ] /usr/sbin/update-initramfs -u
;;
esac

This clearly indicates that this deb package does NOT clean up after
itself. Please tell the manager of this package to fix it.
