Another confirmation on official Kubuntu Dapper CD (live/install): during installation, i choose french. The install goes fine. After rebooting, KDM is in English, but the KDE session is in French (mostly). If I manually put Language=fr_FR in /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc, KDM speaks french. I think it should detect it automatically from ENV : /etc/environment sets the global system language, it should be sourced in /etc/init.d/kdm and them KDM could detect $LC_ALL or $LANG ? this is the way GDM does, it falls back to english or C only if $LANG is not set, or set to a wrong value. -- No localizations available https://launchpad.net/bugs/35573 -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

[Bug 45928] Re: High error rate on UMTS modem
Maybe i've found something here : http://www.timberwolf.ukfsn.org/debian-orange-3g.html I also have problems with lots of ppp0 rx errors when I use the 3G card and I think this may be due or contributed to by the ACPI code. My workaround, to reduce the rx errors, is to disable the ACPI with the kernel parameter acpi=off. I have two menu items in my grub's menu.lst file to either boot kernel 2.6.13-ck1 with or without ACPI. [Bug 50990] Applications quit unexpectedly when typing letters or numbers in a textbox - every time
Public bug reported: I first came across this bug after changing some keyboard shorcut settings for my Microsoft Comfort edition keyboard (connected via USB and PS2 (tried both). I have since turned all shortcuts off, to no avail. If I open an administrative program like Network Settings or Synaptic and try to type a letter or a number, the program quits, although it is still present on the bottom panel. This problem also occurs with bluefish and openoffice writer (probably all openoffice progs) and I can't enter a chat room name in IRC with gaim without the program quiting. Same goes for the text entry box in chat. This problem only occurs in gnome - KDE works fine. Also: this occurred about 1/2 hour after dist-upgrading from breezy to dapper. The only problem I had was I forgot to uninstall firestarter (didn't realise it was installed) which meant that the update program quit without finishing the installation. I continued after uninstalling firestarter using the terminal. [code]sudo apt-get dis-upgrade[/code] Thanks. Patrick. [Bug 50964] Re: system crashed cannot fix alone - I am being refused permission to root
Can you please give some context of which system you have, what you did, why you installed modutils (which is deprecated), and in which way the system is broken now? Thank you! ** Changed in: bash (Ubuntu) Sourcepackagename: bash = None Status: Unconfirmed = Needs Info ** Visibility changed to: Public ** This bug is no longer flagged as a security issue -- system crashed cannot fix alone - I am being refused permission to root https://launchpad.net/bugs/50964 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 49269] Re: installing server variant from alternate, file not found
I ran into this same bug while using the DVD ISO (ubuntu-6.06-dvd-i386.iso). I should also point out that I tried the installation kernels from the DVD (/install/netboot/ubuntu-installer/i386/linux) as well as the ones found in http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/dapper/main/installer-i386/current/images/netboot/netboot.tar.gz/netboot.tar.gz Everything points to the security update (USN-292-1) from june 9th; for some reason the installer expects the upgraded binutils version. -- installing server variant from alternate, file not found https://launchpad.net/bugs/49269 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 23252] Re: Ubuntu default boot splash is now kubuntu!
I think it's the lack of the following lines, which are found in the usplash postrm script: #!/bin/sh set -e if [ $1 = remove ]; then update-initramfs -u fi This should force a recreation of the ramdisks. This line is in usplash postrm, but not in kubuntu-artwork-usplash, oddly enough the following script is in the postinst of the kubuntu-artwork-usplash package: case $1 in configure) update-alternatives --install /usr/lib/usplash/usplash-artwork.so usplash-artwork.so /usr/lib/usplash/kubuntu-splash.so 50 [ -x /usr/sbin/update-initramfs ] /usr/sbin/update-initramfs -u ;; esac This clearly indicates that this deb package does NOT clean up after itself. Please tell the manager of this package to fix it. -- Ubuntu default boot splash is now kubuntu! https://launchpad.net/bugs/23252 -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
[Bug 50939] Re: no internet connection with Asus A8N-E
I'm not experienced enough to assist you with configuring firestarter :) If you're convinced it's not a configuration issue and that firestarter is broken, you may want to file a bug against firestarter. Before doing so, I would suggest you try forums, IRC channels, the mailing lists to see if anybody can help you out with configuring it. Thanks for taking the time to report this, have a nice day ! [Bug 50993] Texts on panel (on desktop) are not visible, when the panel is transparent and the background is dark
Public bug reported: The default background is very dark (but it look good). But when I set the panels to be transparent, all texts on it (menus, clock, etc) become not visible, becouse all of them are black, and they are not visible on dark background.
