[Bug 19484] Re: Gftp hangs on transfer
This is a real annoying bug, as I have also experianced it in Dapper Drake 6.06LTS kernel 2.6.15-25. It did the same thing on 2 diffrent computers. One is an Acer ferrari, and another and dual boot windows desktop. It makes me use windows :( When the last patch came out, and both systems were updated, we lost large file size FTP functionality. I attempted to up load multiple 5M binary files, as well as a small HTML page, as well as a test GIF. On all files larger then 20,480b when the transfer got to 20480b in GFTP, it says transfer stalled, unknown time remaining. FIles smaller then 20K were uneffected. I also attempted the 5M binaries from a bash script. The script just froze when the ftp transfer was initiated. However, it was functional before the up_date -- Gftp hangs on transfer https://launchpad.net/bugs/19484 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 52284] Battery reporting only works after switching to an external monitor during Grub
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.15-25-686 Really. I have a Toshiba Satellite M25XS149 and it seems to me that the battery detection worked great in Breezy, but I don't totally remember. But for a few months it hasn't worked. I discovered that it would work if I tried to switch the monitor output to an external screen (with fn+F5) during the grub screen. With a TV attached to the S-Video or with no screen attached, the /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/* have contents. (And seem to work great.) If I don't do this, it seems that the battery is detected, and if I check right away, even found. But after the first file access, it doesn't work any more. [Bug 51157] Re: 6.06 64bit kernel totally broken after install, gcc3.3 fixes
Using a kernel from the other supermicro server (Hoary 2.6.10) to boot from, I was then able to apt and compile from the vanilla source tree (patched with mm3 to get Areca support) a 2.6.17 kernel that works fine. I had to use gcc 3.3. Same source with 3.4 would not work. Ubuntu 2.6.15-7 source did not get me a bootable kernel, but I don't recall if I compiled with 4.0, 3.4 or 3.3. I have installled this box numerous times and numerous variants unfortunately. Recompiling the booted 2.6.10 kernel from source did not recompile nicely. This makes me think that it's a gcc >= 3.4 problem. I yanked the whole source tree from the working Hoary box and tried to recompile it with no changes to the config since I know that it will compile on Hoary/3.3. I'll try ubuntu source package compile with 3.3 on Monday 7/10. [Bug 52268] Re: High Latency when using alsa sequencer and alsa output
This is already fixed in Edgy. The changes between Dapper's and Edgy's alsa-lib source packages are too significant to warrant an updated package in dapper-updates, but a localised diff could be used in dapper- backports. ** Changed in: alsa-lib (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged => Low Status: Unconfirmed => Confirmed -- High Latency when using alsa sequencer and alsa output https://launchpad.net/bugs/52268 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 52269] Dependency on libssl0.9.7 stops install on "uptodate" Dapper
Public bug reported: The vmware-player package contains a dependency to the EXACT version of libssl0.9.7. On an installation of Dapper that has been kept upto date with update manager, the version of libssl is 0.9.8. Attempting to install vmware-player v1.0.1-4 with synaptic fails because 0.9.7 is not installed. [Bug 52268] High Latency when using alsa sequencer and alsa output
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: libasound2 It appears that there's a bug in libasound2 1.0.10 that causes very noticable latency when using the alsa sequencer and alsa pcm output at the same time. It's very common to use both when using timidity to synthesize output from a midi device. /usr/share/doc/timidity/README.alsaseq.gz in the timidity package has an explanation of how you might do this. Compiling libasound2 1.0.11-7 from Debian unstable using dpkg- buildpackage and installing that fixes the problem. I've confirmed that the problem happens on both a Mac Mini running Ubuntu 6.06ppc and a Dell Latitude D510 running Ubuntu 6.06i386, and using the newer version of libasound2 fixes the problem on both systems. I wasn't able to find the corresponding bug report in the alsa bug tracker, but I did find the ticket in the timidity tracker. http://timidity-docs.sourceforge.jp/cgi-bin/kagemai-en/guest.cgi?project=timidity-bugs-en&action=view_report&id=44 ** Affects: alsa-lib (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- High Latency when using alsa sequencer and alsa output https://launchpad.net/bugs/52268 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 52266] usb drive raw device (/dev/sd*) allows non-sudo'd write access
Public bug reported: New users do not neccessarily understand the mounting system yet, and as such, may cause data corruption by accident. Hard drive devices (/dev/hda, etc) have the permissions set in such a way that a command such as "cp ~/MyFile /dev/hda2" will fail unless sudo'd which gives the user a clue that they're not doing this in the right way. USB drives however have no such affordance. I was helping a user today in irc who did this by accident: he plugged in the usb device, and cp'd files directly to the device (/dev/sda1) itself rather than the mount in /media. The default permissions permitted this, and so he corrupted the filesystem, requiring him to wipe the drive. The device group is set to plugdev with rw permissions. The default created user is a member of this group by default. In contrast, the group on hd devices is 'disk', which the user is not a member of, which prevents this sort of thing from happening. I'm not familiar with the usb drive infrastructure, it may actually be neccessary that the user has this access to the device to make auto- mounting work, but it might be worth investigating. [Bug 52267] Partial translations after upgrade language-pack-kde package
Public bug reported: After the upgrade of the language-pack-kde packages, KDE's translations are "broken" in my Kubuntu Dapper. Now, i've some parts in spanish (my default language) and others in english. The trouble has been after the upgrade with date of 7 of july. [Bug 48636] Re: breezy->dapper update: printer installation broken
i got the printer working with the cups web interface. sorry i cannot reproduce which package/whatever make the old settings broken. but i found another bug: if you use the "System->Administration->Printing"-New Printer dialog it takes up to 20-30 sec till the dialog appear. if you do not now that, you think nothing will happen and you will click the "New Printer" icon again and again. So the dialog should appear FIRST before the internal search starts. -- breezy->dapper update: printer installation broken https://launchpad.net/bugs/48636 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 26819] Re: Totem fails to play some files through smb
It doesn't matter. I explained that it's not a gnome-vfs problem. Totem also crashes for me when I try to open "smb://eleanor/HardDrive/Firefly/Firefly - 01x01 - Serenity Pilot.avi" with the same error I described above. It's never even contacting the smb server, it appears to be some kind of URL parsing error. If Alvaro had his partition up, I'm sure gnomevfs-ls would work just fine for him, as it does for me. -- Totem fails to play some files through smb https://launchpad.net/bugs/26819 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
