[Bug 45722] Re: flashplugin-nonfree doesn't uses the proxy debconf key

2006-07-12 Thread Bart Martens
If flashplugin-nonfree depends on wget, then it seems appropriate to
assume that wget is properly configured. See http_proxy and ftp_proxy
in /etc/wgetrc. Maybe you want to add debconf panels to wget to
configure proxy for wget.

(I don't know either how to push bugs from launchpad to Debian, but
maybe that's not necessary if the Debian maintainer is already reading
here. :) )

[Bug 52726] Missing file referred to in /usr/share/php/Image/Canvas/Color.php

2006-07-12 Thread Rog
Public bug reported:

When using the acidbase graphing facility, the php-image-canvas file
/usr/share/php/Image/Canvas/Color.php reports a missing file...

---
Warning: require_once(Image/Color.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open

Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required
'Image/Color.php' (include_path='.:/usr/share/php:/usr/share/pear') in
/usr/share/php/Image/Canvas/Color.php on line 33

I have verified that this file is not provided as part of this package,
and a quick apt-file search didn't turn up a likely candidate for a
missing dependancy.

A similiar report of this issue can be found here:
http://pear.php.net/bugs/bug.php?id=6066

This may be the same as debian bug #340730 as mentioned here:
http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/pkg-php-maint/2005-November/000378.html

, but I can't tell for sure as debian.org seems to down at the moment.

If this is not happening for a fresh install, then something is wrong
with the installer, not the kernel. Please confirm that this is in fact
the problem, and that the installer did in fact not setup for this

Then that negates the fact that it is gcc-3.3/gcc-4.0 related.

I'm guessing that this can only be a general kernel bug, but finding out
where it is fixed is going to be a tedious task. Obviously 2.6.17 fixes
this problem somehow.

[Bug 52730] Please sync nagios-plugins (main) from unstable

Public bug reported:

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

 affects distros/ubuntu/nagios-plugins
 status confirmed

Please sync nagios-plugins (main) from unstable.

Overriding Ubuntu changes is ok.

Changelog since current edgy version 1.4.3-1ubuntu1:

nagios-plugins (1.4.3.0cvs.20060707-2) unstable; urgency=low

  [sean finney]
  * whoops, new plugin check_mysql_query accidentally made the last
version's nagios-plugins-basic package depend on libmysqlclient15off.

 -- sean finney [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun, 09 Jul 2006 18:51:41 +0200

nagios-plugins (1.4.3.0cvs.20060707-1) unstable; urgency=low

  [sean finney]
  * new release based on latest upstream CVS HEAD, as backporting some
of the changes would involve either massive patches to the autofoo
generated files (Makefile/Configure etc) or by changing the packages
to autogenerate the autofoo stuff as part of the build process,
neither of which i like.
  * anyway, the goodies:
- upstream incorporated fix for F'ing TBFS due to the broken .la files
  installed in the libradius-dev package
- new check_apt plugin to check that a host is up to date wrt the debian
package management system (run with --help for more information)
  Closes: #317763.
- new check_ntp plugin written in C, which performs much faster and more
reliably than the perl plugin, and does everything natively
(sending/recieving the packets itself instead of parsing the output
  of ntpdate/ntpq). Closes: #351257, #360549, #360774.
- as a result, we no longer need to depend on any of the NTP stuff.
  * modified debian/control to reflect new lack of dependency on ntp
  * modified debian/rules to keep check_ntp in the -basic package, as
there's no reason to keep it in standard now.
  * finally incorporate martin pitt's request about transitioning to
the new postgres build system. Closes: #377201.

  [marc haber]
  * make package build fail if /proc is not mounted, before I end up
filing that bug a fourth time. Closes: #344389, #354215

yes, in Paris and then also later on at the GUADEC in Vilanova where

quality of glyphs, Unicode coverage and freeness) to optimize the
overall font set and its packaging (in relation with the language packs

[Bug 52733] Drive check is performed during boot up from hibernation

If while resuming from hibernation the system mounts your / partition for the

[Bug 52736] Helix not working with KDE Sound System enabled

2006-07-12 Thread Luca Citi
Public bug reported:

I am using Kubuntu 6.06.
I have the KDE Sound System enabled. It means it prevents other applications to
get exclusive access to the audio device. The KDE Sound System releases the
resource if idle for 60 s (by default).
If I start Helix Player after the KDE Sound System has produced some sound
(e.g. system notifications) Helix complains it cannot oper /dev/dsp. If I wait
60 s after any sound and then launch Helix again, it works perfectly but no
system notifications (nor other sounds) can be played.
I have found a workaround.
Launching artsdsp progname
(http://www.arts-project.org/doc/handbook/artsdsp.html), all progname's
accesses to /dev/dsp are intercepted and mapped into aRts API calls.
The problem is artsdsp hxplay does not works being hxplay not a binary
executable.
Therefore I changed hxplay and it works great.

[Bug 52738] when exporting to ps/eps/pdf (+latex) whitespace at arrow tip

2006-07-12 Thread marquito
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xfig

I discovered, when exporting to ps/eps/pdf (+latex) with xfig/transfig
3.2.5 there is some whitespace introduced between the arrow tips and the
boxes.

A friend of mine reported this to the author and got following reply:

That bug was just fixed recently in transfig, but hasn't been released yet.
I have attached a patch file to fix the problem. If you need help patching
the source, please write again and I'll explain the process.

Thanks for using xfig.

file: patch.arrows

This fixes the bug where arrow heads fell short of the intended endpoint
This is to be applied to 3.2.5_alpha7 to make alpha8

[Bug 52740] [EDGY] Regression: can't boot from lvm root on raid anymore

2006-07-12 Thread Fabio Massimo Di Nitto
Public bug reported:

I have a sparc system with 2 scsi disks sda/sdb and a bunch of
partitions to have /boot on md0 and lvm on top of md1. Lvm has a few lv
including root.

From the boot log i can see that local-top scripts are executed too
fast (before the sda/sdb appear) and the md script can't start the
raids properly.

I get of course dropped to the busybox shell where i can happily do:

# /scripts/local-top/md
mdadm: /dev/md0 has been started with 2 drives.
mdadm: /dev/md1 has been started with 2 drives.
# /scripts/local-top/lvm
3 logical volume(s) in volume group sparc-vg now active
# exit
 [rest of the boot]

as usual please let me know what info are required and i am as usual
ready to test patches.

[Bug 52743] Grub menu altered incorrectly bu kernel update

2006-07-12 Thread Yaniv Abir
Public bug reported:

When updating the kernel through update-manager, a new menu.lst is
generated for grub, however the update is unable to detect a Windows XP
installation that was detected during Dapper installtion. Therefore,
after the update, the Windows XP option isn't present in the Grub
menu.lst. It has to be recovered from a backup file (assuming one is
present) manually - certainlly not a user friendly job.

[Bug 22899] Re: Installer complains about /dev/md/0p1

2006-07-12 Thread Colin Watson
Apparently (thanks to Frans Pop) this can be avoided in partman-lvm for
the LVM-on-RAID case. The following Debian upload, which is now also in
Edgy, solves it:

partman-lvm (41) unstable; urgency=low

  [ David Härdeman ]
  * Remove parted_names since its of no use for virtual filesystems
(closes: #329765)

  [ Frans Pop ]
  * Major whitespace cleanup in scripts + some minor syntax changes.
  * Sync undo.d/lvm script with init.d/lvm; adds missing hack for RAID devices.
  * As setting flags on RAID devices does not work and causes errors from
libparted, do not attempt to sync flags in case of LVM on RAID. Partman
itself does not rely on the lvm flag, but uses the method instead.
This is in line with existing hacks in init.d/lvm and undo.d/lvm.
Closes: #377391.
  * Remove duplicate depends; add debconf dependency.

[Bug 22238] Re: Use later version of acx

2006-07-12 Thread exetera
I really like the idea of having acx driver in kernel by default, but it still
misses some firmware. It took me some time and effort (I had to put my cart
into a computer with windows) to download firmware from
ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Wireless/dwl520+/Driver/dwl520+_drivers_307.zip and
creating the necessary file tiacx100c0D from RADIO11.BIN(from this package).
Jacek Wolszczak, how do you made this?
Have you just move RADIO11.BIN to tiacx100c0D?
Thanks for your answer

[Bug 52746] xchat-gnome 0.12-2ubuntu2 doesn't support SSL anymore

2006-07-12 Thread Michael Bienia
Public bug reported:

I've tried to enable SSL on OFTC but the log shows xchat-gnome is still using
port 6667 (instead of ).
Looking through the dependencies it seems xchat-gnome doesn't depend on
libssl0.9.8 anymore. And the build log for amd64 confirms it that it was build
without openssl:

checking for OPENSSL... configure: WARNING: Library requirements
(openssl) not met; consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment
variable if your libraries are in a nonstandard prefix so pkg-config can
find them.

[Bug 10661] Re: Windows 2000 doesn't boot from grub: Filesystem type unknown, partition type 0x7

2006-07-12 Thread Jonny
Just wanted to comment that booting to recovery console and running
fixboot, fixmbr had no effekt on my problem. Even a reinstall of xp
dident work. I had to use a trird party program (called Partition Table
Doctor ) to fix it. If anyone needs this info to save their NTFS
partition as most do not backup :). It is possible their is freeware to
do the job also. Altho i did not have time to look around. I read plenty
about ppl having same problem where fixmbr did not work for whatever
reason.

[Bug 52697] Re: apt-get tells me to run dpkg, but the correct command is sudo dpkg

2006-07-12 Thread Chris Moore
If there are other approaches which work in a default install, then
mention one of them instead. I suggested using sudo dpkg --configure
-a since I know that works in a default install.

The command which is currently suggested, dpkg --configure -a, just
plain doesn't work in a default ubuntu install unless the user is
somehow running a root shell, which (according to
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RootSudo ) is *not recommended*.

[Bug 52546] Re: original HP keybord bundled with HP dc7600 doesn't work

2006-07-12 Thread Ondřej Surý
Did you install via a Live-CD?

You are right, that computer was upgraded from breezy. But I have two
pieces of same hardware spare on stock, I can try installing on box on
green field and see what happens.

It seems to me that it maybe related to some Ubuntu specific patches,
because all other distros installed by folk at our office (Fedora,
Slackware and Gentoo ATM) doesn't have that problem with keyboard at
all.

This is current content of /etc/modules:

# /etc/modules: kernel modules to load at boot time.

# This file contains the names of kernel modules that should be loaded
# at boot time, one per line. Lines beginning with # are ignored.

Will providing dmesg output without usbps2 convertor plugged help? The keyboard
doesn't start to work when usbps2 is plugged in after boot, it has to be
plugged from start of boot.

[Bug 27011] Re: non-exploitable buffer overflow in gfxboot

2006-07-12 Thread Colin Watson
gfxboot (3.2.23-2ubuntu1) edgy; urgency=low

  * Resynchronise with Kanotix. Remaining changes:
- debian/patches/01_x11libs.dpatch: Adjust paths for Debian/Ubuntu's X
  layout.
  * Remove as-yet-unsatisfiable Recommends: grub-gfxboot.
  * Suggest gfxboot-theme-ubuntu (before other themes).
  * debian/patches/04_mkbootmsg_asprintf.dpatch: Fix some non-exploitable
buffer overflows in mkbootmsg (closes: Malone #27011).
  * debian/patches/05_mkbootmsg_ctype.dpatch: Make sure to pass unsigned
chars to isspace(), per the C standard; not doing so can cause problems
on powerpc and other architectures.
  * debian/patches/06_getx11font_endianness.dpatch: Treat the output of
iconv_open(utf32le) as little-endian even on big-endian architectures.
Make sure all numbers in the output file are encoded little-endian.

Hi Richard,

thanks for the report!

We are still merging these packages (upload should happen in the next
few hours). So, stay tuned :)

I'll leave the bug open for now, as a reference for others that might
see this problem in the next few hours/days, before everything is
uploaded and fixed.

[Bug 52751] juk should be built with gstreamer output

2006-07-12 Thread Justin Mason
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdemultimedia

juk in the current kdemultimedia package offers only artsd and akode
output in the Settings - Output To... menu. In previous releases,
GStreamer was also offered.

Unfortunately artsd is heavyweight, buggy, and not as usable as esd, and
akode doesn't support esd output. I use esd to support remote-sound
playback. GStreamer, however, does support esd via the esdsink (see
http://taint.org/wk/RemotePlaybackWithEsd ), so I needed to get the
gstreamer output plugin working again.

On investigation, I found that this was easy to remedy; I simply ran

sudo apt-get install libgstreamer-plugins0.8-dev libgstreamer0.8-dev
libgstreamer0.10-dev libgstreamer-plugins-base0.10-dev libgstreamer-
gconf0.8-dev

then reran configure and rebuilt juk from the kdemultimedia source pkg,
and all was well.

Would it be possible for the ubuntu package to include the gstreamer
support, too?

[Bug 52350] Ubuntu's hard-wired RunAsUser cupsys breaks CUPS authentication via nsswitch.conf + LDAP + PAM

2006-07-12 Thread Kurt Pfeifle

Is your LDAP authentication working alright for other services?

IMHO, your bug report should be renamed to a line like the heading of my
own comment.

Ubuntu cupsys 1.2.x packages are patched to retain the RunAsUser
feature (which is now deprecated and removed -- for good reasons! --
by the original CUPS developers) in their distro, which makes cupsd run
as user cupsys under all circumstances. (However, I assume this is
just what Dapper inherited from Debian, and it is the same in
Debian...).

That creates all kinds of problems when users want to follow one of the
standard HOWTOs floating around the 'net to set up a certain behaviour
of their printing system. Things like the ones outlined by a recent
posting of Mike Sweet on CUPS.org don't work as expected:

 - lpd backend printing towards older LPD servers which require source
ports 721-731 (the CUPS option of appending ?reserve=yes will fail)
   (see also Ubuntu bug #47773)

 - automatic root authentication via certificates (Ubuntu bug #26964 ?)

 - proxy authentication support in 1.2.x (no Ubuntu bug report [yet])

 - PAM-based local authentication (very likely the cause of your own
Ubuntu problem, reported as this bug #52350)

 - support for legacy Unix clients via /etc/printcap or /etc/printers.conf
(probably never a problem for Ubuntu -- but running as user completely
breaks printing for all Gnome apps on Solaris 10, for example).

 - future Kerberos support (as is currently under development by a Google
   Summer of Code student)

At least, the RunAsUser experiment in CUPS 1.1.x was a *configurable*
parameter, controllable via a cupsd.conf directive.

Now, what's the absolutely worst thing about the Ubuntu (and Debian as
well ??) RunAsUser patch is that you can't set it back to RunAsUser
No!

You can't re-gain the full original functionality of CUPS, as it was
designed by its original developers: The Ubuntu(/Debian?) RunAsUser
thingie is non-configurable; it is *not* an option to be reversed by a
user; it is simply hard-coded into their patched sources.

You can't even work around it by by-passing the /etc/init.d/cupsys
start script, and by starting /usr/sbin/cupsd directly as root from
the commandline: cupsd will always run as the cupsys user...

In effect, this is not only a patch, it is a fork of CUPS (OK, I'll add
another IMHO to my last sentence...).

[Bug 52756] Thunderbird crashes sometimes when moving emails to folders by using mouse
