[Bug 56232] Re: Grub not safe
Ubuntu, like other Linux distributions, is not secure at the console by default. Users who have access to the console generally also have physical access to the system and can (for example) boot from a CD and achieve similar results. [Bug 32042] Re: [Bug 32042] Re: OpenGL subroutine man pages missing
Searching for glBegin on debian yielded only the result previously mentioned, in stable. The package is absent from unstable/testing. On ubuntu, it seems the package disappeared after hoary which had it in a package of the same name: http://packages.ubuntu.com/hoary/libdevel/xlibmesa-gl-dev It's not present in breezy or dapper. Google doesn't report any other packages that have picked up the man page: http://www.google.com/search?q=glbegin.3x.gz+site:packages.debian.org&hl=en&lr=&pwst=1&filter=0 But some packages have (obviously) picked up the slack in terms of say, libgl.a. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=libGL.a+site%3Apackages.debian.org +-xlibmesa-gl-dev I'm not sure which of these new packages *should* contain the man pages, if any, but hopefully you'll have a better idea then me :). [Bug 56297] Synaptic won't add Ubuntu CD to the repositories - freezes
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: synaptic I don't know what's happening, it worked good on clean Dapper, but after all of these updates, it's not working well. Here's what happens: I open the repositories and click "Add cdrom" "Please insert a disc" appears. If Ubuntu CD was in the drive before that dialogue window, Synaptic would unmount it and after pressing the "OK", it would say "Error scaning the CD" (note that "SCANING", it's without a double N - a typical spell error, looks ugly, but it's a minor issue here). Quite strange - why did it unmount at all?! However if I put the cd AFTER "Please insert a disc", it will scan normally and unmount it in the end. After clicking "close" button, the CD will appear in the repositories. However, from now on I cannot close the Synaptic - if I do that, it will freeze. After I restart the system, the repositories will NOT have the CD in the list. ** Affects: synaptic (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- Synaptic won't add Ubuntu CD to the repositories - freezes https://launchpad.net/bugs/56297 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 56253] Re: installer crashes
Alright, well sorry to inform you but that is the old version of Edubuntu. That version (released in June) is known to have many bugs regarding ubiquity and installing from a live CD. You will want to download the newly released Edubuntu 6.06.1 release (released Aug. 10). This version should have all install bugs worked out. You can download from: http://fr.releases.ubuntu.com/edubuntu/6.06.1/ This is a France mirror, but actually is faster than the US and the other EU one (at least to me, and I'm from Canada). Don't worry though, the download will be in English. I'd reccommend using the .torrent download (if you have a bittorrent software like uTorrent or BitTornado installed) because all the straight (http) downloads are jammed. Sorry for the wasted CD (though you could always order free CD's from shipit.edubuntu.com) and I hope the 6.06.1 release will solve your installer problem. I will (if I can) close this bug because it deals with old installer issues. If you have problems with the new installable live cd, open a new bug report for it. -- installer crashes https://launchpad.net/bugs/56253 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 51871] Re: gtk apps reading accelerator keystrokes incorrectly with alternative keymaps
Same here on Edgy with french/english keyboards, in gedit: CTRL Q is using CTRL A action (french keyboard layout is azerty, qsdf...). in gtk/gtkkeyhash.c _gtk_key_hash_lookup() returns both exact matches and matches with a different keyboard group (it seems to be a feature). As gedit TextView window doesn't have a binding for CTRL+Q it catches the 'q -> a' entry from group 1, cf gedit/gedit- window.c:gedit_window_key_press_event(), and uses CTRL A binding. #if 0 the partial match in _gtk_key_hash_lookup() or #if 0 the gedit_window_key_press_event() fix it.
