[Bug 56961] tiny transparent arcs in top corners of maximised window
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubuntu-artwork This is a bug related to Ubuntu's window border styles. Most maxmised windows will have the titlebar fill both top corners of the screen (excluding the panel), making the titlebar appear a solid bar right across. I beleive this is the proper appearance. Some windows however, will leave tiny (5x5) transparent arcs in the corners. These may appear as white/gray (from a maximised inactive window behind it) or black/brown (from ubuntu's desktop colour behind it). It's probably safe to assume these tiny arcs are residing from Ubuntu's rounded corners of unmaximised windows. You can see a screenshot of the correct bahaviour here: http://schalken.wubbles.net/corner-right.png And a screenshot of the problematic bahaviour here: http://schalken.wubbles.net/corner-wrong.png and here http://schalken.wubbles.net/corner-wrong2.png This may be an application-independant issue. [Bug 48556] Re: ACPI-0517: ****Error Method parse/execudion failed
I can confirm that pwaller's workaround works. Steps I took: Install Kubuntu Reboot, when I get to the grub screen edit, the kernel command line and add acpi=off to the line Boot Kubuntu starts up but freezes every 30 s or so. Follow the guide at http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=157560 for installing a new kernel. In my case, 2.6.17.7. Note that on my z96j, I got a lot of warnings showing up in my syslog about asus-acpi not being able to determine the LCD settings. In the end, I modified /usr/src/linux/drivers/acpi.c, function static int get_lcd_state(void) so that the body of the function is simply: return 0; (all other lines removed). This stops the warnings from cluttering up syslog. Reboot (no need to specify acpi=off) Now, you'll find that the ipw3945 driver is now broken. Download the latest from ipw3945.sourceforge.net and follow the instructions on installing it. And that's it! I haven't played around with the ATI binary driver yet but it'll probably be the same as the ipw3945 driver (i.e. have to install manually). But it is good to know that whatever bug there was is fixed in later kernels. -- ACPI-0517: Error Method parse/execudion failed https://launchpad.net/bugs/48556 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 56957] adding a windows printer in a large network is painful
Public bug reported: When there are 1000s of hosts, fiinding the right print server takes ages in the drop down list. Typing the print servers name in the host field doesn't work, it doesn't list the servers printers in the printer field, whereas if you find the server in the host drop down list, and click it, it does list it's printers. To make matters worse, bug 32112 makes it almost impossible to find the server in time. Every few seconds, a popup asks me to authenticate to a domain, there appears to be a never ending stream of popups on this network, and I'm only interested in authenticating to one domain. Each time a popup occurs, it closes the host drop down list, making it very difficult to scan through the 1000s of hosts to find the right print server, I get part way through the lists of hosts, a popup interrupts me and closes the drop down list, making me start from the top of the host list again. ** Affects: gnome-cups-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- adding a windows printer in a large network is painful https://launchpad.net/bugs/56957 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 27052] Re: Must reboot after timeout. Screen blacks out with no recovery available.
I am having this problem lately with very up-to-date edgy. I have a dual-head display with a Matrox G400 on screen 0 and an ATI 3D Rage IIC on screen 1. I am not using Xinerama. If I have the gnome-screensaver running and the gnome-power-manager set to put the display to sleep, once they have done their thing (i.e. i come back after a period of idleness) I cannot revive the X server. It stays blank/black. No amount of restarting screen savers (gnome and xscreensaver), playing with xset and the screensaver there and dpms seems to be able to revive it. I have found that if I stop using the gnome-screensaver, use xset to disable the X server screen saver and dpms and set gnome-power-manager to never put the display to sleep, things remain fine. Perhaps this is only a screen-saver issue and nothing to do with power management or vice versa. I have not tried all of the combinations yet, as I do have to get something productive done and having to reset my X session every time I return interferes with that. :-/ If I could find some way to revive the X server I'd be more apt to play with different settings to see what causes it. -- Must reboot after timeout. [Bug 42718] Re: Sound capture on Thinkpad T22 not working
I can confirm this on dapper using a soundblaster live. Sound output works fine, and mic input works (i can hear my own voice over the speakers), but recording mic input in any application fails. Only silence is recorded. Mic and capture are both set as the record device, neither are muted, and sound is turned up to 100%. I've seen posts with similar problems on the ubuntu formums, but so far there isn't a solution. If it is a kernel problem it affects as far back as 2.6.15-20 (current is 2.6.15-26). If its not, then I have no idea what package the bug is in. -- Sound capture on Thinkpad T22 not working https://launchpad.net/bugs/42718 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I'd like to do a bit more auditing to see if I can help come up with solutions. Can you give me a quick lesson on decoding the base64 encoded core dump? I tried to strip out just the (very long single line) base64 string and process it with: $ openssl enc -d -base64 < /tmp/foo.base64 >/tmp/foo.bin but that just produces a 0 length file. Running $electricsheep --zoom 1 gives the output "warning: cannot zoom without mplayer or rootwin". If I add --root 1 as an argument, then electricsheep will expand to fill the entire screen. Could this be a possible problem if your screensaver daemon (probably gnome-screensaver or xscreensaver) doesn't add this flag? [Bug 32561] Re: Pango-enabled firefox is much slower
It seems that the fix released is actually stopping web pages in Urdu Fonts to display correctly in Firefox, Epiphany, Mozilla Thunderbird. However it does not effects Galeon. When I tried Firefox after adding: MOZ_DISABLE_PANGO=0 in /etc/environment It started rendering Urdu web pages perfectly. What does it mean? Well whatever it does, it is surely stopping a whole lot of people who read Urdu web pages using Firefox, seeing that their beloved web browser in Ubuntu doesn't display their language they would prolly switch back. another interesting thing that happened after trying this solution was that Galeon inherited firefox's behavior. -- Pango-enabled firefox is much slower https://launchpad.net/bugs/32561 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
