[Bug 57541] ipw2100 doesn't work after resume from standby

2006-08-23 Thread Emil Kroymann
Public bug reported:

Im running Ubuntu 6.06 LTS with latest updates on a Fujitsu Siemens
Amilo M 7400. When the notebook resumes from standby, the wireless
adapter does not work anymore, whereas it works fine resuming from
hibernate. The laptop requires a special kernel module to control the
kill switch of the wireless adapter. This module is called fsam7400 and
is included in the stock ubuntu kernel. The fsam7400 module allows to
control the power of the ipw2100 adapter via a /proc interface located
at /proc/drivers/wireless/radio. After resuming from standby the laptops
led for the ipw2100 adapter shows no power, but manipulating the /proc
interface to the kill switch has no effect. Output of lsmod shows that
both the ipw2100 module and the fsam7400 module are still loaded though.

[Bug 57540] "Fatal server error: no screens found" on recent xserver-xorg-core upgrade

2006-08-23 Thread James
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-core

I recently upgraded xserver-xorg-core to newest package (1:1.0.2-0ubuntu10.3) -
on restarting X / Kubuntu, X failed to start with error
"Fatal server error: no screens found"

Downgrading to xserver-xorg-core 1:1.0.2-0ubuntu10 fixes the problem -
looks like a bug in the package.

My xorg.conf remained unchanged between the two versions.

Thanks

Hello guys, thanks for your work on this great OS. Respect is due :)

Go to places, and drag home folder onto your desktop, and try rename it

[Bug 46996] Re: Hotplugged sound devices get sound card index of 0 instead of PCI card

@Elez: The same thing we Xfce users do, which is to call asoundconf(1)

[Bug 57538] Package does not include example config files

2006-08-23 Thread Simon Kuhn
Public bug reported:

I would like to request that this package include the example
configuration files from the original distribution. Most of the
documentation refers the user to these files, and some actions (such as
changes from iptables to tcp-wrappers) are nearly impossible to figure
out without these files.

Specifically, they are:

config/fail2ban.conf.iptables
config/fail2ban.conf.hostsdeny
config/fail2ban.conf.shorewall

I would like to seem them included in the package's doc directory.

[Bug 57537] "nautilus --no-desktop /etc/passwd" doesn't work

2006-08-23 Thread Elliott Hughes
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

problem:

running "nautilus --no-desktop /etc/passwd" tells me "the location is
not a folder". i know this. what i want is for nautilus to show me
"/etc/" with the file "passwd" selected.

prior art:

Windows' Explorer offers this with "explorer /select,c:\etc\passwd.txt"
and Mac OS also offers it via AppleEvents (i.e. osascript(1) on the
command line).

motivation:

Firefox (and other browsers) on Mac OS and Windows are able to take me
from their Downloads window directly to the file in question in the
system's native file browser. Firefox on GNOME can't do this, and just
takes me to the directory and leaves me to search manually.

my terminal emulator (http://software.jessies.org/terminator/) we log
every terminal the user creates. the info dialog lets you see the
filename, but on Mac OS and Windows it also has a handy button that
takes you to the file in question so you can delete it, copy it, open it
in a text editor, mail it to someone. we're unable to implement this on
GNOME, which makes the GNOME user experience much worse than the other
platforms.

thanks!

[Bug 57536] Re: In Kubuntu, missing dependency on kscreensaver-xsavers

2006-08-23 Thread Sarah Hobbs
Similar to
https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/kdeartwork/+bug/44631

Unfortunately, rss-glx is a non-DM specific set of screen savers, so we
cant really make kscreensaver-xsavers a dependancy (a kde package, and
associated dependancies)

We cant make kscreensaver-xsavers a dependancy of kubuntu-desktop, as it
includes xscreensaver-data, which is considered equally as bad.

It should have a recommends though

[Bug 57536] In Kubuntu, missing dependency on kscreensaver-xsavers

2006-08-23 Thread Tony Lewis
Public bug reported:

The config files (e.g.
/usr/share/applnk/System/ScreenSavers/busyspheres.desktop) for the GL
screensaves include entries like:
Exec=kxsrun busyspheres -- --root

kxsrun is in package kscreensaver-xsavers, and is not a dependency for
rss-glx.

Thus, the screensaver cannot be run or configured until this package is

Yep, works perfect here in edgy. However there has been some sort of
regression with HAL or something. Nothing notices when I pop a CD in,
and nothing shows up in hal-device-manager. This is odd because in
Dapper with new kernels it worked fine.

I have the same problem. I am trying to install ubuntu on a XP machine. I am
trying to build it as a dual boot resizing the 60 gig drive. I have tried
5,10,15,20,25 and 30 gigs as the partition. I am doing a network install with
no removable media. I cannot really post any debug information. I am following
the instructions outlined in:

[Bug 20247] Re: WEP key setting doesn't work on IPW2200 without "restricted"

2006-08-23 Thread Wenzhuo Zhang
Confirming. The bug persists in 6.06.1 on ThinkPad X32. The workaround
works well for me. However, I don't have to type the WEP key. ifup does
that for me.

$ sudo eth1 key restricted

After typing the above command, the WiFi LED, which is below the LCD,
lights up. Now I can bring up the wireless connection using either ifup
or the Networking graphic tool.

The symtoms before manually switching the security mode to "restricted"
can be found in the second post of
.

Everything used to work well in breezy.

[Bug 50751] Re: add dependancy to package, to properly view "urdu" text in firefox

2006-08-23 Thread Noumaan Yaqoob
I agree that there must be some decent fonts available in Ubuntu out of
the box but I dont think that ttf-pakType are any decent fonts to view
Urdu webpages. They are not fully compatible with standards and doesn't
contain several characters for Urdu. Instead, I would strongly recommend
Nafees Web Naskh.

http://www.crulp.org/nafeesWebNaskh.html

According to license stated there, we are free to redistribute, modify
and commercially use this font. Still, I think that Crulp's license is
not compatible with Ubuntu philosophy which is no problem at all since
the license allow us to modify and rename the file to distribute it with
some other name not containing words Nafees or Crulp. We can call it
Ubuntu-Urdu-Naskh.

2006-08-23 Thread Rui Matos
No it does not react to caps lock and I can not ping it from another

I'll describe the visible reactions when it tries to come back from sleep:
* the blinking led return to the correct state (i.e. on)
* there are some noises on the cdrom (normal)
* the lcd remains off, completely off, without any light, just like when the
laptop is completely off (not normal)
* the fan fires off after a little while and keeps accelerating until reaching
it's maximum rotation which usually means that the CPU is on some endless loop

[Bug 53323] Re: Konqueror error - Cannot find parent item file:///home in the tree. Internal error.

2006-08-23 Thread Rocco Stanzione
In kde 3.5.4, file:///home resolves to simply /home, which replaces
file:///home in the address bar. Do you get the error no matter what
directory you browse to, or only for /home? If you do get the error for
other directories (sounds like a silly question, but I want to be sure),
does the error message still say /home?

[Bug 57525] Re: fails on ATI Mobility X700 (Acer TravelMate 8100)

2006-08-23 Thread Tormod Volden
With laptop-detect=true, xresprobe runs xprobe.sh and there is no hints of
1680x1050 in the xorg.log. If I include MonitorLayout in
/usr/share/xresprobe/xorg.conf (see bug #22985), then this line appears in
xorg.log:
XRes: 1680, YRes: 1050, DotClock: 121000

So DDC seems to be the best way for this laptop. The xresprobe script
currently only uses ddc for ppc laptops.

[Bug 55828] Re: PJL output from 1.2.2 client over IPP

2006-08-23 Thread daniel magarzo
Here I'm talking about TWO Fedora Core 5 recent, clean installs... Both of them
up to dated; CUPS v.1.2.2; repos from Core, Extras and Livna, stable rpms (no
testing). Gnome desktop, my choice.
Printer an HP 5150 deskjet, attached to my desktop PC, this is the printing
server. I'd like to be able to print from my laptop via IPP. Both, desktop and
laptop PCs conforms a LAN with assigned static IPs. Both of systems with its
firewall configured (Firestarter GUI) widely permissive in order to be sure
it's not interfering: allowing connections from respective hosts, opened 631
and 515 ports.
Printing server configured graphically through gnome applet, Sharing local
printer, allowing connexions from any IP from the LAN, etc... (being a really
generous setup).
Printing client configured via IPP pointing against the server
IP/printers/name.of.the.queue
A similar scenario did work perfectly before, when both systems were with FC4
installed.
No doubts here: printer has no fault, neither hw nor configs, since it works
perfectly from any direct connection.
Trying to print from the client (laptop) it only gives this message:

[Bug 35528] Re: security hole in 2.0.2/2.0.3

2006-08-23 Thread Luis Villa
Hrm. Let me clarify the terminology a bit, then:

* dapper-backports: something that I as a dapper user assume is optional to
subscribe to, and which if subscribed to, gives me new features, etc.
* dapper-security: something that I as a dapper user assume is effectively
mandatory to subscribe to, and which if subscribed to, gives me *all necessary*
security fixes.

If I understand these correctly, this hole requires that a fixed version
go in dapper-*security*; any upload of a new version to dapper-backports
is just a nicety and not mandatory.

So what I should be doing, if I understand the two channels correctly,
and if the bug is severe enough, is to add a dapper-security task to
this bug. Is that correct?

A backport requires that the source package builds without modification
on dapper. If that's not the case, a fixed package will ned to be
uploaded to -security.

select a non-Chinese-speaking country on the timezone/country selection

[Bug 57525] fails on ATI Mobility X700 (Acer TravelMate 8100)

2006-08-23 Thread Tormod Volden
Public bug reported:

This bug is related to bug #22985 and bug #40503 on this hardware.

* If the "battery" kernel module is loaded, laptop-detect returns true, and
"xresprobe ati" will return:
id:
res:
freq:
disptype: lcd/lvds

In this case, like on a fully booted system, running "dpkg-reconfigure
-fnoninteractive xserver-xorg" will cause xorg.conf to wrongly use
1024x768.

* If the battery module is missing, like when xorg is configured by casper on
the desktop cd, laptop-detect return false, and will cause xresprobe to use
DDC, and it returns:
id:
res: 1680x1050
freq:
disptype: crt

Clearly, in the last case, "crt" is wrong, but the right resolution is
written to xorg.conf by dpkg-reconfigure.

xorg.conf is therefore correctly configured by the desktop cd (bar bug #22985),
but only because laptop-detect is broken. Once laptop-detect is fixed, the
resolution will be wrong, the same way it currently is when running xresprobe
(or dpkg-reconfigure) on a fully booted system.
