[Bug 58487] php5-ldap fails with official (chained) certificate
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: libldap2 After upgrading from self created certificates to an official certificate (chained - root CA: GTE CyberTrust - signing CA: Cybertrust Edu) our PHP Ldap apps did not work anymore, but ldapsearch and other ldap-utils had no problems with the new certificate. php ldaps://.. binding failed - without ssl/tls all worked like before. Turning on debugging reveals that there's a problem with verifying the certificate - but what problem -- Unknown error ?? TLS certificate verification: depth: 0, err: 66, subject: issuer: C=BE,O=Cybertrust,OU=Educational CA,CN=Cybertrust Educational CA, [error] [client ] TLS certificate verification: Error, Unknown error, referer: [error] [client ] TLS: can't connect., referer: After some days trying to find the problem, I found a posting in an openldap maillist from someone with the same problem: http://www.openldap.org/lists/openldap-bugs/200411/msg1.html The reason was the too old libldap version 2.1.30: http://www.openldap.org/lists/openldap-bugs/200411/msg00015.html So I created new dapper packages for openldap2.3-2.3.27 and enabled the building of the libldap2.3-dev package. I rebuilt apache2 and php5 against this libldap2.3-dev and the resulting php5-ldap package works again with ldaps and our new certificate. Is there any chance to get rid of this prehistoric 2.1.30 version and build Ubuntu against a working supported version ? [Bug 58488] Re: Kiosk mode
Thanks for your report. Your idea might get more attention and have the possibility of being implemented if you would submit a specification for this. You should first check whether it already exists at the Ubuntu specs page (https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+specs) in Launchpad. If that is the case, feel free to contact the drafter of that spec about your comments/suggestions. Otherwise you can start writing a spec following the steps described in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FeatureSpecifications. ** Changed in: Ubuntu Status: Unconfirmed = Rejected -- Kiosk mode https://launchpad.net/bugs/58488 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 58488] Re: Kiosk mode
GNOME has several tools to help you in this, especially sabayon (creating user profiles) and pessulus (locking certain features). Restricting to use of certain programs is possible via file permissions, and probably other ways. I'm about to setup a few machines for public internet access myself, it will be interesting. It could certainly be more automated, and the setup could be made easier and specific documentation could be written. But I guess that is too broad of a scope for a bug report, and I'd recommend you write a feature specification, see: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FeatureSpecifications -- Kiosk mode https://launchpad.net/bugs/58488 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 37768] Re: hal(?) mounting Partition, while working with GParted
I can confirm this behavior. It's not hal, it's gnome-volume-manager that's mounting the partitions. This is probably caused by gparted calling an IOCTL to re-read the partition table before it tries to make the change. That part, at least, is good behavior but gparted needs to have some way to either lock the device it's working on so that g-v-m can't have it mounted or perhaps notify g-v-m that it's making changes so that g-v-m knows not to try. This is definitely a bug, I'd even call it a serious one. It will be present whenever attempting to manipulate a partition table on a removable device. A possible workaround is to kill gnome-volume-manager (in my case I had to go into gnome-session-properties to kill it). ** Changed in: gparted (Ubuntu) Status: Needs Info = Confirmed -- hal(?) mounting Partition, while working with GParted https://launchpad.net/bugs/37768 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I've been able to reproduce this error: sudo apt-get install totem-gstreamer-firefox-plugin Password: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree... Done Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that the package is simply not installable and a bug report against that package should be filed. [Bug 58425] Re: consistent crash on logout, restart or shutdown from X
I've narrowed the problem down to an oops when rebooting while X is running. This happens even when I reboot from the console by doing CTRL+ALT+F1 first. Unfortunatly, I cannot capture the oops as it zooms by too quickly and I can no longer scroll up once it has crashed (how can I capture the oops?) When booted into recovery mode I can reboot fine. I've narrowed the problem down to presence of either the i915.ko or drm.ko kernel modules. This happens both with the 2.6.15-26-amd64-generic and 2.6.15-26-amd64-xeon kernels (this is and EMT_64 system). ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-driver-i810 (Ubuntu) Sourcepackagename: xserver-xorg-driver-i810 = linux-source-2.6.15 -- consistent crash on logout, restart or shutdown from X https://launchpad.net/bugs/58425 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 57174] Re: [edgy] nautilus-cd-burner uses 90% cpu making it unusable
I'm having similar trouble. I haven't yet tried it from the command line, but here are my symptoms: The Write Image dialog takes several minutes to appear, in the interim between when an the write to disc button is clicked or a .iso file's context menu's write to disc entry is selected, CPU usage goes up to 100%. When the dialog finally appears, the speed 0.0x is selected. Clicking the 0.0x selector triggers another long wait. When the list of speeds finally appears, it's populated with hundreds (if not thousands) of entries, starting with a 0.0x at the bottom, followed by about 20 more 0.0x, followed by about 20 0.1x entries on up. I threw my mouse to the top of the screen to attempt to get to the fastest speed, but after several minutes, I was still only at 8.7x, which I selected and proceeded to burn. The burn appears to have gone OK, though it was not at 8.7x, it was closer to the max speed my drive supports (a burn of the knot-2 CD took about 3-4 minutes). -- [edgy] nautilus-cd-burner uses 90% cpu making it unusable https://launchpad.net/bugs/57174 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thanks for your report. Your idea might get more attention and have the possibility of being implemented if you would submit a specification for this.
