[Bug 59304] nautilus doesn't show thumbnails for ps files

2006-09-06 Thread kmon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Hi

nautilus doesn't show thumbnails for ps files but it does for pdf files.
I imagine this works with evince support for thumbnails. Since evince
can open ps files I think it should be capable of creating thumbnails
for nautilus to show.

Thanks

[Bug 58214] Re: sync with the last debian version

2006-09-06 Thread Fathi Boudra
Ubuntu changes:
* Re-sync with Debian
* Fix krusader.desktop and install to /usr/share/applications

So the only real changes:
* fix krusader.desktop (Icon and DocPath) is dropped.
   -> This isn't unnecessary changes.
* install to /usr/share/applications
   -> merged in Debian (Mentionned in my changelog:
  Fix desktop files path to be freedesktop compliant)

[Bug 59209] Re: gnome-terminal transparency doesn't work in compiz/AIGLX

2006-09-06 Thread Emmanuel Touzery
all the compiz effects are working fine, so I assume it's working. I'll post a
the requested file ASAP.
Note that I start X, then only later run compiz.

I'm actually running compiz on AIGLX on the knot2 liveCD, for testing.
my main computer is still running dapper, without compiz. Don't know if
the liveCD thing could be related to the problem.

I have the same problem.
The point is, that with breezy everything was fine. The problem started with
dapper. This means, I think, that it is not a problem of outdated bios. It is a
problem with kernel/acpi...

[Bug 58962] Re: User-specific: Gnome file dialogs crash every time

2006-09-06 Thread Aaron Peromsik
Got some debug info installed, though not quite enough. The dbg package
for libgtk-2.0 doesn't seem to include some of the module subdirectories
so I can't see what's going on in libgnome-vfs.so. Traceback with
partial symbols below.

What I can see is that we seem to be crashing while trying to update the
icon for the first file in the Documents folder. Looks like the hash
table we are looking in is bogus.

After looking in the debugger and speculating a bit, I can make it crash
on my account sometimes. (Not as consistently as on my wife's account.)
Seems to depend on using a largish font-- e.g. Bitstream Vera Sans Roman
12-- and having more than one screenful of files in the Documents
folder.

active). Regardless, this bug came from upstream and there it should
probably be fixed.

[Bug 59295] Please sync python-gnome 1.4.5-5 from Debian Sid (main)

2006-09-06 Thread William Grant
Public bug reported:

Please sync python-gnome 1.4.5-5 from Debian Sid (main). Ubuntu changes
were:

 * Build against python2.4.

Overwriting Ubuntu changes is OK, as they are now incorporated in the
Debian package (and the package builds and installs fine in a clean Edgy
pbuilder):

python-gnome (1.4.5-5) unstable; urgency=high

  * QA upload.
  * High-urgency upload for RC bugfix/python transition
  * Transition to the new python policy draft (closes: #373541):
- add XS-Python-Version: current, since this is a deprecated set of
  modules and there's no reason to support more than one version of
  python for them
- move the alternative to /usr/share/python-support/python-gtk,
  following pygtk's lead
- python-gtk-1.2 depends explicitly on python-support, since it's
  only used in custom rules so not inherited from python:Depends
  * Update the pygtk/ subdir to automake1.7, as the automake1.5 python
macros can't cope with python2.4.
  * Remove useless .la files from the package.

Package: nautilus
Version: 2.14.3-0ubuntu1
Severity: normal

When you open a html file in nautilus it will not respect the setting
for default web browser that is set under System -> Preferences ->
Preferred Applications. It will instead take the program to launch from
the mime information it has. It is my believe it should take the
default web browser though.

The options saving mechanism is flawed regarding the way keybindings are
saved. Every string should be escaped the proper way and parsed accordingly.

The attached patch fixes a bug that appears with the ' keybinding for
mark-goto. The option should be saved as

  bind "main" "\'" = "mark-goto"

and not as

  bind "main" "'" = "mark-goto"

as is done actually.

[Bug 59286] xmms: Hangs on fast MP3 streams switching

Package: xmms
Version: 1.2.10+cvs20050809-4ubuntu5
Severity: important

When quickly switching through a playlist of MP3 streams (e.g. with a remote
control using LIRC, using xmms-shell or simply using the next and previous
buttons), xmms often hangs while trying to connect to the server. It seems
that there is some deadlock with some threads, as indicated by strace.

To reproduce the bug, simply load a few MP3 streams in the playlist, start
playing the first one and then quickly and repeatedly switch to the next
stream. If you switch fast enough, xmms will hang. :/

Hello *,

The pam_krb5.so module provides a callback function that queries users
for their passwords or displays informational messages. This callback
is registered to various Kerberos functions. All of these Kerberos
functions usually call the callback with ONE message string only.

This works perfectly fine.

However, if a user is to change her password, Kerberos will call the
callback with THREE messages:
i) Password expired. You must change it now.
ii)  Enter new password:
iii) Enter it again:

The array of pointers to these messages is handled incorrectly.
It is processed as:
one single pointer pointing to an array of pam_messages.

However, PAM expects it to be:
an array of pointers, each pointing to one single pam_message

This makes no difference for one single message, of course.
Hence, the module works perfectly in most circumstances.
However, in the above case, when three messages are to be displayed, it
fails.
Either authentication is denied or the module segfaults, which is no
better ;-)

Users who have to change their passwords are effectively locked out,
yielding a Denial Of Service.

Attached patches correct the pointer arithmetics and solve the problem.
I suggest that these patches are merged into the Debian and the Ubuntu
packages.

Reproduction:

> [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# kadmin.local -q "modprinc +needchange klbuch"
> Authenticating as principal root/[EMAIL PROTECTED] with password.

Version: 2.4-1ubuntu9
Severity: normal

*** Please type your report below this line ***
The fchownat function is supposed to operate on the named
symlink argument when given the AT_SYMLINK_NOFOLLOW option.
Unfortunately, with Ubuntu unstable (updated an hour or two ago)
it mistakenly dereferences a symlink and chowns the file it points
to instead. You can see that from the strace output below,
as well as from the tests that demonstrate the GID of the link
remains unchanged, yet the GID of the referent is changed.

On 2.6.17-6-686 #2 SMP, with libc6 version 2.4-1ubuntu9, one
of the coreutils-6.2-cvs "make check" tests fails.
Here's a pared-down test case:

$ cat demo
#!/bin/sh
# Create a file, then a symlink to it.
# Call fchownat on the symlink, with AT_SYMLINK_NOFOLLOW, and
# ensure that only the group of the symlink has changed.

rm -rf f sl; touch f; ln -s f sl
f_grp=`stat --format=%g f`

cat < k.c
# define _GNU_SOURCE 1
#include
#include
#include
int
main (int argc, char **argv)
{
  return (fchownat (AT_FDCWD, argv[1], -1, atoi(argv[2]), AT_SYMLINK_NOFOLLOW));
}
EOF
gcc -O k.c

# Determine an alternate group.
alt_grp=`id -G|sed 's/.* //'`
test `stat --format=%g sl` = $alt_grp \
  && echo "$0: cannot run test: it requires an alternate group"

strace -e chown32 ./a.out sl $alt_grp || echo fail
test `stat --format=%g sl` = $alt_grp \
  || echo buggy fchownat did not change group of symlink
test `stat --format=%g f` = $f_grp \
  || echo buggy fchownat did change group of symlink referent

Running the above:

$ bash demo
k.c: In function 'main':
chown32("sl", -1, 112)  = 0
Process 32054 detached
buggy fchownat did not change group of symlink
buggy fchownat did change group of symlink referent

[Bug 59134] Re: upstart fails to power off my system

2006-09-06 Thread John Dong
/sbin/halt does the same thing that kdm is doing -- that is, running all
the shutdown scripts, then saying "System halted.", then staying there.

kdm did power down the system before upstart came along on my
systems so is this an upstart problem or a kdm problem?

[Bug 13497] Re: Locked password on live CD interferes with screen lock

2006-09-06 Thread Chip Piller
The screen locking behavior still needs work in the latest edgy liveCD,
Sept. 5, 2006 build. The problem with the user being able to lock the
screen and not be able to unlock the screen has been fixed which is
good.

The edgy liveCD user is still presented with options to lock the screen,
in the screensaver preferences gui and in the logout screens. None of
these options however will actually lock the screen, therefore this is a
bug.

If a user of the edgy livecd creates a user account with valid password
and attempts to lock the screen, the screen will still not lock.

Finally, not too long ago it was possible to right click on a panel,
select "add to panel ...", and add the "lock screen" applet to the
panel. This no longer seems to be possible.

[Bug 59134] Re: upstart fails to power off my system

2006-09-06 Thread John Dong
Scott,

I can confirm that if I choose "Shut Down" from KDE's log out dialog,
upstart will not power off my system. I do get the "System Halted"
message from the kernel, at which point I need to manually reach for a
power button or SysRq-O, which does power down my system.

However, /sbin/poweroff works correctly in turning off the computer after
executing shutdown scripts.

I have not tested /sbin/halt yet, but I remember that with sysvinit that also
powered down my system... perhaps that behavior changed with upstart?

Rebuilding libgphoto2 without hal support (dropping libhal-dev build
dependency) works around this issue - apparantly the code in libgphoto2
isn't particularly well tested & may be broken.
