Hello. No, I'm not behind a proxy. Of the dozen or so repositories, the
one listed is only one to fail connection. Tried all the apt-get
options. Thanks, Geoff Dunlop

[Bug 55118] Re: crash during Kubuntu install

2006-09-19 Thread Ariel Faigon
Hi Colin,

So sorry, I don't have those particular logs anymore. When I check
/var/log/installer/syslog I can't find the crash I enclosed in the
original bug report. Trying to reproduce this is too risky for me (might
overwrite my partitioning on my main system...)

Thanks for all your work on Ubuntu.

[Bug 59001] Re: sync zope packages

2006-09-19 Thread Andrew Mitchell
The only packages with Ubuntu changes are:
 zope-extfile: Converted to using zope-debhelper zope-common, python*-imaging
dependencies fixed, all changes are done in Debian
zope-textindexng2: Same conversion to zope-debhelper zope-common, done in
Debian
zope-zms probably shouldn't be synced at the moment, a debian NMU introduced a
bad dependency on zope 3.

[Bug 54621] Re: Kernel panic - not syncing: IO-APIC + timer doesn't work!

2006-09-19 Thread Ryan Lortie
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 53985 ***

From page 436 of the ICH7 spec (January 2006)

bit 3 of SMI_EN:

LEGACY_USB_EN — R/W.
0 = Disable.
1 = Enables legacy USB circuit to cause SMI#.

temporarily disabling this single bit allows the delay loop calibration
to work.

2006-09-19 Thread charly4711
Hello Jeff,
you don't need any special equipment for xvidcap. You might want to try current
svn trunk, though, and do the usual ./autogen.sh debian/rules binary

As for the platforms I've been talking about: Well, since the effect seemed
different on various platforms we've tested some:
AMD32 (Athlon XP) : works like a charm
P4 3GHz (HT enabled with SMP kernel) : chrashes every so often (~1-2 times out
of ten)
AMD64 (Multicore CPU with SMP kernel : crashes (next to) every time

My guess is that this is somehow related to higher CPU speeds and/or more
fine-grained timings increasing the probability of this happening.
Also, LinuxThreads or non-SMP seem to avoid this problem. I've read of a
somewhat similar case (ages ago, though) where the error is due to individual
threads !on different CPUs! getting a mutex at the same time. Dunno if this is
the same here, too, though.
Thanks for your help,

Karl.

[Bug 61223] macbook trackpad support

2006-09-19 Thread biou
Public bug reported:

It is possible to enable synaptics emulation on macbooks, and thus to
have right click and middle click on the trackpad.

But it needs Xorg from Edgy, and a kernel patch on the appletouch
module, which can be found here : https://svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot
/mactel-linux/trunk/kernel/mactel-patches-2.6.17/appletouch.patch

More informations here :

If it could be included in Edgy, it would be really cool! :-)

I can make d-i do this, but I'm a little uncomfortable with having d-i
create files on the target system not owned by any package (we've been

Also, perhaps upstart could ship a template somewhere so that d-i
doesn't have to know too much about upstart's configuration syntax,
which will presumably change.

[Bug 41759] Re: Alien Glow effect crops too tightly

2006-09-19 Thread era
It's a workaround, but I would still consider this a bug. I was in fact
toying with the idea of changing the code so it doesn't crop. I'm not a
seasoned Scheme hacker but it doesn't seem too hard at all.

(a) change the core function so it accepts an additional parameter
nocrop. For backward compatibility reasons, make this negated (nocrop
rather than, say, crop) and optional. Make the cropping code
conditional: (when (not nocrop) (... do it ...)

(b) correspondingly change the user-friendly functions so that the
alpha effect never crops, and the regular one does, just like before.

[Bug 39744] Re: foomatic-db-gutenprint causes printer setup malfunctioning

2006-09-19 Thread Conrad Knauer
Sadly, this bug needs to be reopened; I was testing a Dapper Live CD
with a printer at a friend's house and noticed that it was present. I
was able to duplicate the problem at home. To reproduce:

Run the latest Ubuntu Dapper Live CD (6.06.1), add universe to
sources.list, press reload in Synaptic, install foomatic-gui and run it
from Terminal. You will get the double free or corruption error.

Fortunately sudo foomatic-cleanupdrivers still works to fix matters,
allowing foomatic-gui to then run normally, but having to cleanup the
drivers means there's a problem with the package (still? a regression
perhaps?).

Perhaps add foomatic-cleanupdrivers to a postinstall script?

[Bug 61227] Gnome CPU frequency applet only controls cpu0

2006-09-19 Thread Ryan Lothian
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

On my Intel Core2 Duo, I have CPU frequency scaling working fine. Both CPUs can
have their frequency and governor changed separately (using
/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu{0 or 1}/cpufreq/...).
After creating two instances of the gnome CPU frequency applet (one per CPU),
each displays the correct frequency, but both the instance for CPU0 and CPU1
control CPU0. That is, attempting to change the frequency of CPU1 changes the
frequency of CPU0 and CPU1 remains the same.

[Bug 61228] inotify syscalls missing

2006-09-19 Thread Sven Bachmann
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-kernel-headers

Hi,

I tried to play with Inotify, but I was only able to find the
/usr/include/linux/inotify.h file. This file does not contain the system
calls which you can find at
http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/rml/inotify/headers/.

Is it possible to include them into the kernel headers or are there
other ways to get the syscall includes from the system?

Bye

[Bug 61059] Re: I managed to perform the command: sudo apt-get install without being asked for a password

I assume that you get the same behaviour for other commands as well?
(like 'sudo true', which does nothing, but is a nice way of checking for
the password). Does it ask for a password again after you did 'sudo -k'?
Can you please show me your /etc/sudoers by doing

  sudo cat /etc/sudoers

Thank you!
