[Bug 62338] Bad translation of translator-credits

2006-09-25 Thread Claude Paroz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: language-pack-fr

The upstream string translator-credits have been superseeded by "Equipe
français de traduction d'Ubuntu" in some packages. This should be corrected as
it's violates the copyright.
The following packages may be affected in Dapper:
adept_installer
adept
adept_notifier
adept_updater
alacarte
devhelp
gconf-editor
gdebi
gnome-app-install
gnome-netstatus
gnome-nettool
gnome-panel-2.0
gnome-power-manager
gnome-system-monitor
gnome-utils-2.0
gparted
hwdb-client
keep
kio-locate
knetworkmanager
nautilus

planner
sabayon

[Bug 46314] Re: after recent update 3d acceleration with savage does not work

2006-09-25 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
I can confirm this on my system, using an S3 Inc. 86C380 [ProSavageDDR
K4M266] (rev 02), which according to Xorg.0.log is a "Twister PN133",
Chip: id 8d01.

After asking at the xorg mailing list, they directed me to the bug
Marcelo Shima was pointing out on his last comment.

I can also run glxinfo, but executing glxgears results in a black window
and 100% CPU usage.

So basically, it seems that the DRI locking was broken in the driver,
and that that has now been fixed upstream using the following patch:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=7041 (see the bug report
for more information)

[Bug 47542] Re: Fast scrolling causes X hang

2006-09-25 Thread jonie
I don't think so. The problem you described is rather related to video
memory timing. It look like as if an extra wait state were needed when
the system is accessing video memory directly, where in fact it's
accessing part of system RAM assigned to video. Perhaps it could be
fixed in BIOS (something like AGP write 0 WS, AGP fast writes, etc. -
disable it). You may also try NVIDIA binary driver and see if it behaves
in a different way.

[Bug 17294] Re: The Apply-icon used in for example Synpatic an Liferea is low quality

2006-09-25 Thread David Prieto

I found this bug where OK/cancel icons were proposed:

https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/tangerine-icon-
theme/+bug/40607

And these are the icons:

http://ramnet.se/~nisse/diverse/temp/tango/okncancel.tar.gz

Surely the proposed red cross's metaphor is not different from the
current, ugly red cross? I don't think the proposed green tick's
metaphor differs from the present, ugly green tick.

So, why give the user ugly button icons when they could have ones that
are basically the same, only they look good instead of crappy?

[Bug 62336] fstab uses UUIDs for lvm volumes on a new install

2006-09-25 Thread osch0001
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 61638 ***

Public bug reported:

I am not sure which package this bug should be filed against (udev,
lvm2, or the installer). Using the Knot 3 installer on an lvm system,
my fstab looked like this:

# /dev/mapper/ubuntu-root
UUID=15e5bc76-3c43-43a8-b38e-4fafb270b3f1 /   ext3defaults,error
s=remount-ro 0   1
/dev/sda5 /boot ext3defaults0 2
# /dev/mapper/ubuntu-home
UUID=13f40195-6c08-4350-8eb4-2cd5a9a42885 /home   ext3defaults
  0 2

And so on. Mounting of these lvm volumes failed on the first boot. I
had to manually replace the UUIDs with the /dev path for it to mount
them on boot.

[Bug 60762] Re: can't use 1024x768 with savage driver in edgy (vrefresh out of range)

2006-09-25 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
I can sort of confirm this bug.

I have got an S3 Inc. 86C380 [ProSavageDDR K4M266] (rev 02), which
according to Xorg.0.log is a "Twister PN133", Chip: id 8d01.

On a Dapper install, the savage driver was not used, but the vesa driver
was used instead. Now, with the upgrade to xorg 7.1.1 in edgy, the
slowness of vesa became unbearable, so I started using the savage driver
-which, BTWis also not loaded for my laptop when using Knot3, still vesa
is used.

Now when I started using the savage driver, the maximum resolution I
could use was 800x600, which on a 1024x768 laptop screen is not the
best, I have to say. All 1024x768 modes in Xorg.o.log were dropped
because of them being out of range

I got the driver to work at a 1024x768 resolution by explicitly
specifying hsync and vrefresh in xorg.conf:

VertRefresh 55-61
HorizSync31.5-80

What are your hsync and vrefresh ranges?

What do the "Monitor" and "Device" sections of your xorg.conf look like?

[Bug 62334] Upgrade caused dual-boot grub to destroy Win2K disk

2006-09-25 Thread Hexatron
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: upgrade-system

On September 23 2006 I was running Ubuntu Dapper Drake and got the
upgrades suggested ( there were more than 30). The upgrades included a
new kernel.

The PC this was on has two disk drives--
hda was a Windows 2000 disk with a windows mbr
hdb was a Ubuntu linux disk booting grub (with an entry for the windows 2000
boot)
The BIOS was set to boot from hdb.

After the upgrade:
The boot from hdb failed both for Ubuntu and Win2K
The Win2k mbr had been over-written.

I removed the Ubuntu disk and reinstalled the Win2k mbr. It booted Win2k
but stopped after login. I tried fixing the Win2k OS with the install
disk, but the disk found no problems.

Apparantly, the Ubuntu upgrade deposited a few sectors of crap at the beginning
of the Win2k disk (which it should not have touched at all--grub, /boot, all the
linux stuff was on hdb).

It's only a duplicate if your circumstances match those in bug #45636
(laptop with SATA hard drive, probably Toshiba Satellite M20). If your
problem is different, please unmark the "duplicate" flag and give more
details. In any case, you might want to test Edgy and see if the
kernel panic is resolved.

My Powerbook has the problem when waking up from _suspend_ (RAM
preserved, Power light pulsing), so from this point of view, it should
be filed here. The strace output with hanging gnome-session above (x
-session-manager is an alias for gnome-session) is the cause for the
failure on my Powerbook - but that is about identical to the traces
filed for the other bug. So it's likely that gnome-session has general
problems with sleep recovery.

[Bug 61924] Re: On resuming from hibernation, I can't launch any apps

2006-09-25 Thread Joachim Noreiko
Could you reopen this please?

I don't think it's mere lag, as firefox was able to launch correctly, and 10
minutes on an Athlon 3000+ seems excessive.
Even if it is lag, there is a bug here, because the user should be given some
indication of what is happening.

[Bug 62321] Re: FAT32 partition on flash drive/USB keyfob gets automounted in case-sensitive mode

2006-09-25 Thread Simon Law
We must set the iocharset to utf8, or things will break horribly.

There is no current way to enfoce case-insensitivity in the vfat driver,
without kernel support. If you feel that this is an error, please
contact the Linux developers.

Thanks.

[Bug 62321] Re: FAT32 partition on flash drive/USB keyfob gets automounted in case-sensitive mode

2006-09-25 Thread Jens Ropers
I probably didn't explain myself very well and/or didn't put the
emphasis right here:

Having figured things out as far as this, I don't see the "utf8 is not a
recommended" part of the error message as central or even as much of an
issue. Yes, I do think it's not nice to have error message thrown if
there isn't an error, but for sure that's significantly less important
than the substantive issue I filed this bug about.

The main issue here is that the FAT32 partition gets mounted case-
sensitively instead of case-insensitively.

I don't actually understand at all why this error message would thow the utf8
part together with case-sensitivity, but anyway:
I think the mounting of FAT32 partitions as case-sensitive would be worth
addressing.

[Bug 58884] Re: Random keyboard failure in X

2006-09-25 Thread Alexander Berger
I experienced similar problems with my new DELL XPS m1210 Notebook and
edgy (Knot 3). However in my case not even the "CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE"
resp. "CTRL-ALT-N" keystroke works. Some times the keyboard starts
working again after some minutes but in the majority of cases it will
not resume work.

Additionally there is a similar problem with the mouse. The pointer
still works and can be moved around, windows can be selected but menus
and buttons do not work you can click them and you also see the visual
feedback of the click but no action is carried out.

I found no information in the log files of the X-server but I am trying
to gather more information.

[Bug 62325] After 20 minute warning, battery status erroneously drops to 0%

2006-09-25 Thread Toni Heinonen
Public bug reported:

The battery discharges normally, until I get the notification of "20
minutes of battery life remaining". After OK'ing it, the battery seems
to immediately discharge to almost 0%, according to gnome power manager.
I almost immediately get the 10 minute, and then the critical warning.

If I simply don't shut down, but keep working, it clearly shows that the
power manager's report on the battery is wrong, and it discharges
linearly instead of emptying itself in the end.

See attached screenshot.

Urgency: really annoying when you don't really know how much juice you
got in your battery, and you really can't command GPM to hibernate or
shutdown on battery critical. Not fatal, though, I guess.

Might also be an ACPI bug.

[Bug 59597] Re: Any Tab except the main one crashes on first input

2006-09-25 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for replying to the comments and figuring what the issue was.
Marking at rejected since that's an user config issue, not a bug. The
application is not supposed to catch every user configuration error
possible, that would require extra code, complicate and slow the
application for no real benefit

[Bug 62318] Re: No shipit for xubuntu

2006-09-25 Thread Richard Johnson
Very true. I myself would like to see Xubuntu disks, as I work along
side the "FREE GEEK" crews here in the US. They refurb old computers,
and we have been using Xubuntu as the OS on some of the older machines.
It would be nice to present the end user of the computers we create with
a nice looking, official Xubuntu disk ;)

Wishlisted!

[Bug 62196] Re: IBM T41 under Edgy: Kernel Panic for Suspend/Hibernate

2006-09-25 Thread Stu Hood
Hmm, it appears that as of today's update, this is no longer an issue.
The machine is now suspending, hibernating and resuming just as it was
under Dapper.

Kudos!

[Bug 62324] gnome-session segfaults on ia64

Binary package hint: gnome-session

Not much else to say. I couldn't find anything interesting running it
with strace.

[Bug 61763] Re: Hard disk stops and restarts on shut down

2006-09-25 Thread Scott James Remnant
It's rejected because this is not considered a bug (there's no attempt
made to prevent this behaviour, and no known method of doing so).

I suspect this may be occurring in the kernel somewhere.

Could you compare the results of running the following for me:

  "halt --debug --force"

vs.

  "halt --debug --force --interface-down"

vs.

  "halt --debug --force --hard-disk-standby"

vs.

  "halt --debug --force --hard-disk-standby --interface-down"

Also please provide more information about your drives - how are they connected
to your system? (IDE, SATA, SCSI, USB?)

No i haven't try the patch

I prefer to wait for release of the package on apt server
