[Bug 62760] Contact Lookup applet support for secondary home and business phone numbers

2006-09-28 Thread Francesco Degrassi
Public bug reported:

Contact lookup applet displays only the following fields in it's popup dialog.
E_CONTACT_PHONE_HOME
E_CONTACT_PHONE_BUSINESS

Since often people has multiple home and business phones, i needed support in
it also for E_CONTACT_PHONE_HOME_2
E_CONTACT_PHONE_BUSINESS_2

I'm attaching a diff against contact-lookup-applet-0.14-ubuntu1 that
simply adds the aforementioned fields to the phone label.

[Bug 62768] Very bad performance with X600 in Edgy

2006-09-28 Thread Dieter Komendera
Public bug reported:

The performance of my video card is very bad with edgy. I've all updates
installed.
My notebook: HP Compaq nc8230 with a 2.1 GHz Intel and 1 GB RAM.

Problems:
When I have to enter my password for administrator rights, the fade to the grey
screen isn't smooth at all. Or scrolling on a website with firefox is very very
slow. When I minimize or maximize a window, the rendering is also very slow.
With latest Dapper I hadn't these problems!
The CPU usage of xorg often goes up to 90 or even 100 %

I tried to use this device section in xorg.conf:
Section Device
Identifier ATI Technologies, Inc. M24 1P [Radeon Mobility X600]
Driver  radeon
BusID   PCI:1:0:0
Option  NoAccel false
Option  AGPMode 8
Option  AGPFastWrite on
EndSection
But the performance didn't get better.

If you need addtional information, please tell me.

Dave Brady, maybe you can answer this: is this happening also with
compiz/XGL? if it's also happening with compiz/XGL, it could be a compiz

Not sure though. I assumed previously that this works fine in compiz/XGL

[Bug 39315] Re: Keyboard random repeat and dropped key presses

2006-09-28 Thread mirage
On the IBM Bios Update site i've found the changelog regarding this
issue:

Version 1YET62WW (1.27)
Note: This BIOS version will only work with Embedded Controller Program
Version 1.06 (or higher).
  * Previously released BIOS version 1YET60WW, 1YET61WW and Embedded
Controller 1.05 combination may cause a spontaneous wrong key
input when you key input with an external PS/2 type keyboard.
  * Numeric characters (2, 4, 6 and 8) will be inserted
internittently during cursor move with cursor keys.
  * A keyboard behaves as if shift key depressed until a
shift key is pressed.
  * You can only type only Uppercase characters.
(Some keys seem to keystrokes, because the shift
cases are not defined)
  * Multiple selection with cursor keys
  * Numeric keypad will turn to cursor keys

If you encounter these cases, please update the Embedded
Controller to 1.06 (1YHT29WW).

So I suggest to all a BIOS-update, where it's possible.

It seems that the problem is solved by me now...

You didn't describe the Ubuntu changes you wanted to override, and the
diff includes:

-  * add libx11-dev to build depends
-Build-Depends: debhelper ( 4.0.0), dpatch, g++ (= 3.3.0), doxygen,
pkg-config, autoconf, automake1.7, libtool, libopenalpp-cvs-dev,

Unless you actually describe the Ubuntu changes and *why* you want to

[Bug 60155] Re: [edgy, libmagick] any display command (shell w/o additional arguments, magickcore, magick++ etc) fails because of missing fonts making especially c/c++ API's useless as one cannot chan

2006-09-28 Thread osklyar
** Description changed:

+ [solution found] The below happens only when updating from previous
+ Ubuntu versions keeping your xorg.conf unchanged. After updating to
+ Edgy, my xorg.conf's Files section carried FontPath's to
+ /usr/share/X11/fonts/... whereas on Edgy fonts are in /usr/share/fonts
+ (thus in /usr/share/fonts/X11/...). Correcting xorg.conf solved the
+ problem! Still -- somehow for those updating from Dapper to Edgy it is
+ not obvious that xorg.conf must be changed!
+
  I am developing some R (r-cran in ubuntu) language package using Magick++
interface. Since updating to Edgy I could not use any of display functions of
MagickCore, Magick++, MagickWand because all of them fail on the same error
throwing me out of the program: display
  display: unable to load font
`-*-helvetica-medium-r-normal--12-*-*-*-*-*-iso8859-1'.
  The above message was generated on the command line using shell display, but
it is exactly the same in all API's (well, Magick++ and MagickWand use
DisplayImages of MagickCore directly). In the shell one can override the
settings by using 'display -font fixed *', which works. In the API's setting
image.font(fixed) or similar does not affect the result at all. I tried
different versions, repositories, of libmagick (plus all other files) --
dapper, dapper-security, edgy but all on Edgy Ubuntu -- all fail with the same
error, but all of them are 6.2.4.5 versions. Similar problem was reported on
debian stable 6.0.6. I ended up killing the precompiled binaries and installing
ImageMagick6.2.9 from source from their original site -- this solved the
problem. Thus it does not look like and inherent Edgy problem, but rather the
way the package was compiled (dependencies?). In any case, installation from
source works w/o any issues.

  Well, if you forget about my particular problem and think of server
  applications, ImageMagick is a must, so I would consider this problem as
  very high priority!

+
  Note: the original reporter indicated the bug was in package
  'libmagick'; however, that package was not published in Ubuntu.

[Bug 48556] Re: ACPI-0517: ****Error Method parse/execudion failed

2006-09-28 Thread Guillermo Molleda
Perfect, I'm writing 10 minutes later without acpi=off in the grub.

But I have the steps:
* change to edgy repositories
   * sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list
   * change dapper to edgy in the file
* sudo apt-get update
Ok, is the same.

use Synaptic to upgrade or install the next:
linux-386  (is version 2.6.17-9)
linux-image-2.6.17-10-386 (yes, is -10 and for 386, my synaptic say that the
686 is obsolete and only upgrade no install)
linux-restricted-modules-2.6.17-10-386, this install too the
linux-restricted-modules-common

I install all, and now edit the /boot/grub/menu.lst:
sudo nano /boot/grub/menu.lst
and view that the kernel 2.6.17 have NOT the acpi=off option, and the kernel
old YES have acpi=off (you can run the old kernel if all fail)

Now reboot and:
* Change sources.list back to Dapper
* sudo apt-get update

Perfect, I have installed GkrellM and I view the battery state perfectly
(before without acpi was impossible detect the battery level, in a laptop that
is very important)

Thanks you.

[Bug 62310] Re: Gpilotd does not reply to all sync request

2006-09-28 Thread Daniel Holbach
Comment from the upstream developer:

ot sure what's causing this problem.

Here's one thing to test:
kill gpilotd (you may need to remove the pilot applet from the panel, and then
do 'killall gpilotd' from a terminal window).

Now try running pilot-xfer:
pilot-xfer -p /dev/pilot -l
(or /dev/ttyUSB0, or /dev/ttyUSB1, I'm not sure which is right for the T3)

Does pilot-xfer work reliably, or do you have the same problems as with
gnome-pilot? If it is just as unreliable, then I'd recommend bugging
the pilot-link people:
http://www.pilot-link.org/mailman/listinfo/pilot-link-general
It's just possible that you're getting a regression with the new pilot-link
major version, 0.12.

[Bug 62776] Video stretched when running ATI dual desktop

2006-09-28 Thread KenSentMe
Public bug reported:

I run Ubuntu Dapper with two screens on a ATI 9800 Pro. To get dual
screen working i used this command:

sudo aticonfig --dtop=horizontal

This way i can use a big desktop on two screens. when i maximise a
screen it maximises to one screen only. Even fglrx works in this setup.

When i play a video in Totem(-Xine in this case, but believe it happened
also in gstreamer) my Totem video is also stretched, so the screen is
twice as wide as normal. This way a 4:3 video becomes 8:3. This happens
in Totem itself and in the firefox-plugin.

** Affects: totem (Ubuntu)

it turns out, that the buildd's have /bin/sh still pointing at /bin/bash

on the buildds,

[Bug 62590] Re: openoffice.org FTBFS, when built on edgy's kernel

2006-09-28 Thread Matthias Klose
not a kernel issue at all, fooled by the upgrade of davis, where the
kernel *and* the /bin/sh symlink changed at the same time.

the culprit is a perl build script in OOo, leading to the obscure
failure:

sub suck_setup($)
{
my $file = shift;
if (-f $file) {
print Reading setup from $file\n;
open ($Vars, . $file ; set|) || die Can't find $file: $!;
while ($Vars) {
/([^=]*)=(.*)/ || next;
$setup_vars{$1} = $2;
}
close ($Vars);
return 1;
}
return 0;
}

apparently dash does quotes all the variables, even if quoting is
unnecessary. OOo relies on that :-/ Fixing that in the script:

open ($Vars, bash -c '. $file ; set'|) || die Can't find
$file: $!;

Apparently perl always executes shell scripts using /bin/sh and doesn't
use the SHELL environment variable at all.

[Bug 61087] Re: Gaim crashes on close

2006-09-28 Thread Jonh Wendell
Hi!

Checking with more deep, i've seen that although closing normally, gaim
generates a core file (about 25MB) in my home dir.

So, doing some tests i think i found the problem. It's related to
libnotify plugin, that i've installed from
http://repository.debuntu.org/

Disabling this plugin, gaim closes normally and no core file is created.

Kevin Kubasik, initial reporter of this bug, do you use this plugin too?
