[Bug 63297] Re: ssindex crashes

2006-10-12 Thread Jani Monoses
I have not checked but is it certain that 1.7.1 requires the latest gsf? If it
were the single updated package it would be less of a risk. Anyway I agree we
should get this patch in,
and maybe others that are reported in LP or upstream considers them critical,
like other crashers or data loss ones.

[Bug 65579] Re: Administrator of Ubuntu Czech Translators destroys dictionary for translators by providing less suitable and unnatural translation

2006-10-12 Thread Martin Böhm
Since this problem has been discussed in the ubuntu-l10n-cs team and the
majority of the members have voted for Použít, it is of no use
bugging about it. Použít as in the OK/Apply/Cancel dialogue is well
established and Ubuntu should not contain translations that may be
confusing for users of Windows or those of another GNU/Linux
distribution. Phrases like Apply changes are still open to discussion.

Furthermore, I consider the formulation of this bug report (especially
the part about the qualifications and skill of the current ubuntu-l10n-

[Bug 30207] Re: media:/ does not handle floppy mounting correctly

2006-10-12 Thread PMan
Forgive me if I'm stating the obvious but for clarity, the above
successful workaround does not repair the problem; with the Storage
Media window and it's function with floppy drives. So this needs
attention. What is the cause?

This is fundamental for floppy drives. Also; quite frankly, it's a
little embarassing. While the problem may well be with KDE, it is with
KDE on Kubuntu.

[Bug 65287] Weird display after update

2006-10-12 Thread Jo-Erlend Schinstad
Public bug reported:

I installed Ubuntu Dapper from the cd I received from shipit. Everything
is fine. I then downloaded and installed all available updates. Now,
buttons change colours from time to time. It's hard to describe.
Sometimes an ok-button is partially pink. Sometimes it's completely
black. I also run xrdp with tightvncserver and x11vnc. When I connect to
it locally, the display looks very ugly. Pink lines over the screen,
buttons are green and yellow (I run the default theme, mind you). When I
connect to the same server from my work-computer, everything looks nice.
I suspect a video driver is the source of thiese problems. I have an ATI
Radeon 9200se card.

[Bug 65579] Re: Administrator of Ubuntu Czech Translators destroys dictionary for translators by providing less suitable and unnatural translation

2006-10-12 Thread Václav Čermák
Also our dictionaries (at least those we've consulted) offer first the Czech
term Použít then other and at the end they say Aplikovat. So in this way I
consider talk about unnatural translation a bit far fetched.
I'm sorry to see that the effort to produce high quality localization turned
out into a personal issue.

[Bug 65226] Re: Paste from writer to gaim in edgy segfaults writer

2006-10-12 Thread jbj
FYI, two systems I installed (my laptop, installed from scratch, and my
desktop, dist-upgraded from dapper show the problem).

AFACT, the valgrind log does match up with the stack trace from gdb,
this excerpt from the log appears to match based on what function names
I can see and the libraries called, though valgrind doesn't seem to
resolve some of the libucpfile1.so function names.

The addresses of course do not match, but these are two independent
execution runs of the same bug.

[Bug 65620] Using GL apps with my r200 causes X to die

2006-10-12 Thread Rich
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

I have a Radeon 9200 PRO (0300: 1002:5960 (rev 01) according to lspci
-n), and attempting to use the free radeon driver in X works fine,
unless I try to use glxgears or any other 3D rendering application. In
that case, X will cease responding to input, though SSHing into the
machine will continue to work, and I will be forced to restart X.

Under Dapper and Edgy, using this driver, direct rendering reports No,
but under Dapper, the 3D apps merely run incredibly slowly, rather than
requiring a restart of X if one spawns.

My Xorg.0.log shows nothing interesting on this occuring:
# tail -n 10 /var/log/Xorg.0.log

[Bug 65579] Re: Administrator of Ubuntu Czech Translators destroys dictionary for translators by providing less suitable and unnatural translation

2006-10-12 Thread Petr Tomeš
Phrases like Apply changes are still open to discussion.

This is rapid turnaround in his long-term position
(http://lists.ubuntu.cz/pipermail/ubuntu-l10n-
cs/2006-October/000298.html). It is quite curious, that this come after
I hold up my participation in a project after one and half years
hardworking.

Since this problem has been discussed in the ubuntu-l10n-cs team and
the majority of the members have voted for Použít, it is of no use
bugging about it.

This is a lie. Ubuntu Czech Translatros in Launchpad is a team about
more 40 people and only MINORITY of them wrote their opinion on a
specializaced mailing list. Yesterday I ask other poeple outside this
group and everyone of them but one agreed with me. Due to this reason
and with regard to how 10 milion people speak Czech (according to
corpora) I consider quoted argument as a week and unsatisfactory.

Furthermore, I consider the formulation of this bug report (especially
the part about the qualifications and skill of the current ubuntu-l10n-
cs administrators) not in accordance with the Code Of Conduct, Section
Be respectful.

I don't see any problem in that formulation as it's only describing a
reality. Everyone can go to Rosetta and see that I translated much more
strings than all other members of Ubuntu Czech Translators together. And
I do much other work and translations than in Rosetta. Also there is no
doubt about there is a people like me with higher qualification and
experiences than current Administrator has:

[Bug 65579] Re: Administrator of Ubuntu Czech Translators destroys dictionary for translators by providing less suitable and unnatural translation

2006-10-12 Thread Jenda Vančura
None the less, there wasn't a single person who would share the view of
Petr Tomeš, who, the then-admin of the translation team, added his
translation to the dictionary with a 'we won't discuss this' notice,
which many of us considered inappropriate.

Petr, your qualification is of no use to us, since you have refused to
participate on the project any more. And from my PoV, it was because you
weren't allowed to push your opinion over the consensus of everyone else
present.

There is no current leader of the translation, and neither of the two Czech
Ubuntu Members (ondrej the admin and I) unfortunately have the time to take up
this position.
The team is, however, handling the sudden disappearance of the leader quite
well and they seem to be working together well. I believe a competent person
will step up sooner or later to take the lead of the team.

This bug is a non-issue, and the broader community should not be
bothered with it.

[Bug 19749] Re: SATA HDD not recognized during Breezy Colony 4 install or Dapper Flight 3

2006-10-12 Thread Drew Woodard
There appears to be a new problem with this notebook under Edgy.

My previous experience had been that the text based Dapper installer
still had problems but the graphical installer worked fine. With the
release of the Edgy betas neither seem to work.

When I attempted to install Edgy beta1:

During the graphical install process it gets stuck at 94%, at the step:
installing grub boot loader
running update-grub...

If I try doing the text based install I get:
installing the base system
debootstrap warning
warning: failure trying to run: chroot /target mount -t proc proc /proc

The first time I was trying to install over top of an existing Dapper, when
that didn't work I zeroed the entire drive (including mbr) and left everything
on the defaults, allowing the Edgy installer to wipe the drive and create the
swap and ext3 partitions on its own, it still gets stuck on update-grub.

[Bug 65266] Re: [UVF Exception] Sync php4 4.4.4 from Debian unstable

2006-10-12 Thread Adam Conrad
I'm probably going to end up rolling apache1.3 back to db4.3 for edgy,
which means php4 can't be synced unmodified, so I'll have to upload a
slightly mangled version to cope. I do agree with the request for the
UVF exception, though, so if dholbach approves it, I'll do the upload.

[Bug 65621] DeskJet 3740 (and probably many others) should print in reverse

2006-10-12 Thread Ryan Lortie
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hplip-ppds

i got a deskjet 3740 for super-cheap at staples. it works great with
ubuntu except for two problems.

the problem for this bug is that when paper comes out of my printer it
comes out with the printed side facing up. the paper then drops onto
the tray.

this means that if pages come out of my printer 1 2 3 4 they will go
onto the tray in order 1 2 3 4. when i pick them up, page 4 is on top.

there is an option in PPD files specifically designed to deal with this.
this option is documented in the CUPS FAQ here:

http://www.linuxprinting.org/cups-faq.html#q_1_7

It says:

1.7 How do I print pages always in reverse order?

In the PPD:
*DefaultOutputOrder: reverse

[Bug 43529] Re: backup to DVD-RAM

2006-10-12 Thread Sivan Greenberg
Thank you for the bug report. I believe this is something that needs
minor tuning to allow you to use a DVD-RAM as a backup target.

If DVD-RAM is recognized as a regular 'disk drive' could you please try
and use the edgy version of huabckup:

From the main dialog window, choose 'Other' as the backup target, and
from the file choose dialog see if you can choose the directory by which
this devices is mounted, in this instance it would probably be
'/media/cdrom0'. Go on with the backup and let me know the result.

[Bug 65622] printing outside of the margins causes the job to stall in the queue

2006-10-12 Thread Ryan Lortie
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hplip-ppds

ii got a deskjet 3740 for super-cheap at staples. it works great with
ubuntu except for two problems.

the problem for this bug is that if i print outside of the hard margins
of the printer (ie: physical limitations) then the job just stalls in
the print queue. no error, no nothing. the job just sits there
forever.

if i erase the job and send another job that's inside the margins then
everything is fine again.

i'm using the hplip-ppds driver (HP-DeskJet_3740-hpijs.ppd) for the
printer. i'm not sure this bug belongs to this package, but it seems
like a pretty good spot for it.

[Bug 37471] Re: firefox has problems with printing changing fonts

2006-10-12 Thread Daniel Robitaille
Removing extra mozilla-firefox task, but keeping firefox task open.

Also, does anyone can test if this problem is still present in newer
versions of Firefox (1.5 is in Dapper, 2.0 is in Edgy)

Good question. I think it has to do with some unnecessary touchpad sections
sitting there in xorg.conf. At least, removing them got rid of the error
message.

It does not seem to cause any trouble/failure really, but is annoying
 though.

I get Major opcode: 147 and the error for device 169 like the
 original poster.

Exactly. The problem is still there, and I'm willing to let go of the splash
screen - however, there is only so much I'm willing to do manually for the
computer configuration. I think this should either be fixed, or be easy for
the user to disable the splash screen.

[Bug 37922] login screen corrupted on big display

2006-10-12 Thread dozer
Public bug reported:

I've just installed Kubuntu dapper. My box is 2x amd64 dual core, 2x
nvidia 4500 gfx cards and a 30 dell monitor. I'm running the nvidia
drivers. When running in 2560x1600 mode, the kubuntu login screen is
corrupted. The upper left rectangle is rendered correctly, the rest
looks like raw video memory. I am guessing that the rectangle that's
rendered correctly is 1600x1200 pixles. The mouse can move anywhere on
the screen without problems.

[Bug 34831] Re: Hardlock of entire system (Dapper Flight 5)

2006-10-12 Thread Daniel T Chen
Please see this debdiff[0]. Essentially, add one line to /etc/modprobe.d
/alsa-base:

install snd /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install snd $CMDLINE_OPTS  {
/sbin/modprobe -Qb snd-seq ; }

Then, immediately a fresh boot /without/ any modifications (e.g., using
an Edgy Beta live cd), is the system freeze still reproducible on non-
Creative Labs hardware lacking hardware MIDI when you start Rosegarden?

For clarity:
1) Append the install.. line (above) to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base
2) Reboot into a pristine Dapper or Edgy environment
3) Check that snd-seq (and snd-seq-midi) is (are) loaded via ``lsmod|grep
^snd_seq''
4) Start Rosegarden and attempt to reproduce the hard freeze

Note for testing that you should /not/ start ``timidity -iA'' between
steps (3) and (4)!

Also note that I've never been able to trigger said freeze on my
hardware (uses snd-intel8x0), even when I don't use the sequence I just
described, so I'm most interested in users of non-Creative Labs hardware
lacking hardware MIDI.

[Bug 30791] Re: firefox 1.4.99 upgrade still have compreg.dat, creates issue

This appears to cause other problems - in edgy.
It's another problem with compreg.dat, and removing the file is the cure.
