[Bug 70384] LightTPD FastCGI uses wrong PHP version
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: lighttpd The file /etc/lighttpd/conf-available/10-fastcgi.conf (part of lighttpd) refers to /usr/bin/php4-cgi, effectively making only PHP4 work with FastCGI by default (and PHP5 produces error messages). Changing this to /usr/bin/php-cgi (this is what 10-cgi.conf already points to) would run either version, regardless of which was actually installed. I don't know what the proposed solution would do if both were installed, but I suppose if someone had a reason to install both, he/she would also know how to configure FastCGI or at least where to look for documentation. ** Affects: lighttpd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- LightTPD FastCGI uses wrong PHP version https://launchpad.net/bugs/70384 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 42774] Re: Installer Crash: ValueError: invalid literal for int()
I experienced the same problem trying to install Ubuntu 6.0.6. LTS from the Live CD. [I downloaded and burned the ISO image. It's self-check passed] My computer is a Presario 5000Z-1.0 GHz circa 2001 (Full specs at http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c8665lc=encc=usdlc=enproduct=239426) I have upgraded this machine in four ways: (a) maxed out the RAM to 768 MB, (b) replaced the original HD with a 80 GB parallel ATA drive, (c) Added a 300 GB SATA drive accesssed through a PCI bus multi-function card, (d) replaced the original video card with a WinFast GeForce2 Ultra. The 80 GB drive is configured to dual boot both WinME and WinXP. (I use WinME to play certain video games that never migrated to XP). The primary partition is a 5 GB FAT 32 partition for WinME. The extended partition contains a 30 GB NTFS partition for WinXP, and a 1 GB NTFS partition for burning CDs. The rest of the drive is free space. The 300 GB SATA drive was partitioned into 60 GB primary partition and a 300 GB extended partition split into two logical drives of 150 GB each. All partitions used NTFS. My plan was to install Ubuntu on the primary partition of the SATA drive, and then select Ubuntu by selecting the SATA drive as the boot HD via my BIOS. So, I booted Ubuntu from the Live CD and fired up the installer. I chose the manual partitioning becuase I have data in the extended partiton that I didn't want to trash. I used the 'resize' and 'new' operations to split the original 60 GB primary partition into a 1.5 GB swap partition (formatted as 'linux-swap' and a 58.5 boot partition (which in my ignorance I left as NTFS). The installer completed without complaint but nothing was written to the boot partition. After some reading I learned that Linux can't write NTFS file systems and I needed to format the boot partition as Ext3. Armed with this knowledge, I boot again from the Live CD and fire up the installer. I split the 58.5 GB boot partition into a 15 GB boot partition (for / and /boot) and a 43.5 GB partition (for /home). Both partitions were to be formatted as Ext3. When I tried to go from page 5 to page 6 of the installer, I got the following crash message. (I have attached the requested logs in a single file, CrashLogs.txt. The log contents re separated by a delimiter '= filename ' ). --- We're sorry; the installer crashed. [Bug 67183] Re: External monitor not working Radeon Mobility M6 LY after a regular Edgy update
I'm seeing the same behaviour on my ThinkPad T42 with ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility M7 LW running Edgy. If memory serves me right, I usually get this behaviour when the external (VGA) screen is plugged in at boot. If I plug in the external screen after X has started up, I get a cloned display. However, there is some regression wrt the cloned display; xv overlays now only get displayed on the internal LCD, and not on the external screen. [Bug 56426] Re: /etc/init.d/avahi-daemon is useless
Bah, there are many precedents in Debian and Ubuntu for this behavior. Making /etc/init.d/avahi-daemon ignore the system setting in /etc/default because people are too lazy or stupid to read the initscript is dumb when many other packages work this way, including many in universe (that won't be similarly changed). What happens when you edit /boot/grub/menu.lst, and don't respect the Debian/Ubuntu way of doing things? It gets clobbered the next time update-grub is run. What happens when you add a line to /etc/modprobe.conf? You get to keep both pieces. Ubuntu isn't Gentoo, or SysV. That upgrading to edgy from dapper silently turned off avahi-daemon is a bug, IMHO, but making /etc/init.d/avahi-daemon ignore /etc/default is not a fix for that. What happens when people helpfully add the missing SysV runlevel symlink for avahi-daemon, and things stop working correctly? The best answer is you get to keep both pieces, but only after hard-to- understand bug reports. Or perhaps it's more well don't do that then which equally applies to this. If something really must be done for this bug, move the avahi- daemon script out of /etc/init.d, so people don't find it and expect it to work a certain way. -- /etc/init.d/avahi-daemon is useless https://launchpad.net/bugs/56426 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

These are the steps I did though I think any results which launch Frefox will fail as well. 1. Ensure Firefox is not running. 2. Perform a search and select wikipedia. 3. Close FireFox. 4. Try to launch firefox or performing another search gives the dialog stating that Another FireFox is already running and you must close it first. Apologies if this has already been reported or if I havent given suffient information and Im still kinda new to ubuntu ( and linux ). Thank you John ( Quietbloke ) ** Affects: deskbar-applet (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed ** Description changed: - Binary package hint: deskbar-applet + Binary package hint: deskbar-applet. + + I am running 6.10 after upgrading from 6.06LTS. [Bug 70403] Strange loss of colors in text-mode terminal
Public bug reported: It seems that if you leave a text-mode terminal alone for some time, it will go into a power-saving mode of some sort. I don't know how to otherwise describe it, so here are two pictures that show what I mean: http://thingmajig.org/tmp/strange_0.jpg - normal text-mode terminal http://thingmajig.org/tmp/strange_1.jpg - the same terminal after being left alone for a while, missing grey, blue and purple (note: the screen _does_ go fully blank after some time) Dapper simply blanked the entire screen instead of doing this, and I feel it's much better and less awkward that way. I actually don't know whether this is a bug, or a feature, or a change in default settings, but either way, I believe that this is worth looking at. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed ** Description changed: It seems that if you leave a text-mode terminal alone for some time, it will go into a power-saving mode of some sort. [Bug 70405] Image editor shows black screen
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: digikam Steps to reproduce: 1. Click on a jpg image in a Digikam album. 2. In the Digikam image editor, click next. Result: A black screen. Detailed info: This bug is sadly quite random. Sometimes I can click back and the previous picture shows up just fine. Clicking next thereafter gives me a black screen. If the editor shows the correct image size, then I can get it to show the image by clicking the Zoom Autofit button. Using the keyboard shortcut A doesn't work though! If the editor shows 0x0 pixel size then I can't get it to show the image and if I try to edit it, Digikam crashes. System: Kubuntu Edgy (upgraded from Dapper). In Dapper it worked, so I have a suspicion that it started when I upgraded. dpkg -l digikam libimlib2 libkexif1 | tail -3 ii digikam0.8.2-2ubuntu1 digital photo management application for KDE ii libimlib2 1.2.1-2ubuntu1.1 powerful image loading and rendering library ii libkexif1 0.2.3-2 library for KDE to read/display/edit EXIF in Ps. [Bug 70268] Re: Openoffice 2.04 has a broken DicOOo
Unfortunately, I have problems with it: moving blindly using tab and enter with DicOOo I have now managed upgrading it to 1.6.2 that works perfectly. However, notice that what I am getting is not actually a font issue: in the dialogs the fonts are always perfectly fine, both in size and look: It is the window that is too small on its right side, so that part of the text remains hidden and, particularly, the OK button and the box for language selection are not shown. -- Openoffice 2.04 has a broken DicOOo https://launchpad.net/bugs/70268 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Same here. [Bug 70406] Latin 1 character in banner
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: dvipng The `This is dvipng' banner prints the author's name in Latin 1 encoding, which won't work in utf-8 locales which I think is the normal Ubuntu default.
