[Bug 72287] macbook backlight
Public bug reported: There is no support for backlight control of the macbook. Currently I use the package macbook-backlight-hal from desrt (http://desrt.mcmaster.ca/macbook.xhtml) that needs to be manually fixed to work on feisty/edgy. [Bug 72143] Re: please revert startup sounds
"but the old sounds were much more relaxing, professional" "the previous sounds were really professional" It seems over the Edgy cycle this term 'professional' was bandied around as some catch phrase. This is especially interesting when considering the compositions of the various teams and the education / professional background of the participants. Once again, it seems the issue here is change. I am quite certain that if one were to conduct a poll, the sounds would attain an acceptable level of approval. I am quite certain that there are disagreements over coding style, documentation grammar, etc., that are all as relevant -- but perhaps not quite as high profile. We _are_ a team however, across all of the various elements, and we need to support each other. Ultimately, reversion is probably not the wisest choice -- as progression would seem more appropriate. Further still, until we _concretely_ define Ubuntu creative design policy and treat it with the same attention as we do with the technological aspects, we are doomed to repeat the same mistakes. Perhaps we should be discussing the mechanics of design that 'work' for Ubuntu versus, such as useful terms as 'relaxing' etc. This is all far more critical towards building a comprehensive design philosophy as opposed to dissecting the smallest of details regarding our current evolutionary state. Let's work towards the future, not mimicry of the past. "Those were the days" isn't a good enough excuse as, for us, _these_ are the days. -- please revert startup sounds https://launchpad.net/bugs/72143 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 71980] Re: dmraid: sync new debian version
The -Q flag simply suppresses errors in the modprobe line during initialization. The decision should be trivial on whether to keep it or not. There's benefit in it either way. But if dropping it means dmraid can be synced I'd say drop it. [Bug 69411] Re: GNOME CD burner hangs on "Write to Disc" dialog
Same problem here, with the latest fresh edgy, but I am not trying to copy a complex structure. I am just trying to burn three shallow directories albeit with lots (2000) files adding up to not much (100 MB). I cannot get it written, neither to the CD nor to an ISO file. The greyed-out dialog actually becomes ungrayed if a second nautilus burn:/// is opened, a write attempted, and then the application is killed violently. But then the first dialog, now ungrayed, still hangs immediately. This seems a rather fundamental operation failure. -- GNOME CD burner hangs on "Write to Disc" dialog https://launchpad.net/bugs/69411 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 72174] Re: using up/down/right/left arrow in insert (i) mode wont works
I have the same problem, vim seems to be starting in vi-compatible mode and that causes it. Here's a relevant forums thread: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=286963 After reading a bit, it looks like on dapper "set nocompatible" is in the /etc/vim/vimrc file. However on edgy, this line was moved to /usr/share/vim/vim70/debian.vim which is supposed to be included from /etc/vim/vimrc, but this seems to be not working for some reason. -- using up/down/right/left arrow in insert (i) mode wont works https://launchpad.net/bugs/72174 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 72270] Infinite loop eventually trashing the system due to memory usage
Public bug reported: I have a certain folder tree, which I frequently use. There are huge pdfs and mp3 files into it. Today I can't open it with nautilus since it hangs. I forgot to kill it and I had to reboot the machine which had been trashed to death by nautilus. In fact, visiting that folder makes nautilus loop it seems, and it grows up and up in memory usage. If I rename the folder, the symptom disapperars, but if I move it into another place without renaming it, the symptom persists. Tell me anything I can do to give more info, I will keep a copy of the folder. Backtrace follows, I did it by pressing ctrl+c in gdb after launching nautilus with the --no-desktop option. [Bug 72264] hack to make dpatch-get-origtargz work with debian/watch files that provides .tar.bz2s.
Public bug reported: dpatch-get-origtargz expects everything from debian/watch files to be tar.gz. Sometimes this is tar.bz2, in that case, dpatch-get-origtargz will save the .tar.bz2 file with a .tar.gz extension. All the other tools will be confused with the extensions vs. reality. [Bug 72257] [Patch] Compilation broken on PPC
Public bug reported: The qemu package fails to compile on PPC due to the helper functions do_fitos and do_fitod in target-sparc/op_helper.c using an out-of-date prototype for int32_to_float*(). These functions should take a second argument, like they do in op.c.
