[Bug 73713] missing sanity checking for the -e switch
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: update-manager version: edgy eft steps to reproduce: > sudo software-properties -e univers (note the misspelling) This puts the word "univers" into /etc/apt/sources.list in such a way that software-properties can't take it out and apt-get can't cope with it. [Bug 73710] sane behavior for wrong /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf
Public bug reported: After upgraded to Edgy, my system took 3 minutes on boot before i can leave the initrd. After careful investigation of the scripts in the initrd, I found that there is a wrong UUID embedded in /etc/mdadm/mdadm. This caused the loop in /usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/local-top/md to spin for 180 seconds before it dies. I guess there is a better way to do that. 180 seconds is too long. I guess no device would need more than 15 seconds to be activated. This long wait make people feel that they machine is actually frozen, since no progress bar is shown during the time. I know it doesn't want to print something to mess up usplash, but they added up (no progress + 180 seconds) gives an insane experience. ** Affects: mdadm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- sane behavior for wrong /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf https://launchpad.net/bugs/73710 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 73701] Re: Oddity with remembering default active window
Related to this, compiz appears to be grouping the workspaces together somehow. Thus if I do the following: 1, Switch to workspace n from n+1 or n-1 2. hit alt-f4 3. [Bug 42612] Re: OpenOffice does not open the default document
I can confirm this for Xubuntu 6.10 Edgy Eft and Xfce with latest updates. To be precise: if I launch any Openoffice instance from the Xfce menu, the default document doesn't get opened - however, equivalent desktop shortcuts work fine. Could therefore be a bug in how the Xfce system menu is handled, though couldn't find anything about this in Xfce bugtracker. So: which desktop environment are you people using? Anyway, I found a workaround at least for Xfce: in /usr/share/applications, if you remove the "%U" from the end of the exec line in each Openoffice desktop file (for example change "ooffice -writer %U" into "ooffice -writer"), the default documents get opened all right when you click the menu entry. As I mentioned, the desktop shortcuts with the equivalent exec lines work fine: if you drag the desktop files from the aforementioned folder on the desktop - or just create a desktop shortcut through the right- click menu - the "%U"-ending stays, but the default documents still get opened when the the program is started through the shortcut. -- OpenOffice does not open the default document https://launchpad.net/bugs/42612 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 72958] Re: BackupPC gives fileListReceive failed error
Confirmed here, I think. Something in Edgy's rsync is triggering this bug. Running backuppc off a Debian sarge box with ubuntu edgy clients fails with the infamous 'fileListReceive failed' error. Dapper clients back up without problems. I compiled the source .deb from feisty (0.64-1) and put it on my Sarge box, but that did not help, it still contains the (upstream?) bug. I then applied the 0.64-1 package diff to the 0.68 source .tgz, created an 0.68 package that way, but I still get the same error. [Bug 36014] Re: kernel can't scale cpu frequency
I must say, this bug is the worst I have worked with. I had thought that the patches that were included in 2.6.17 fixed the issue, but the PPC commenting method still works to solve the issue, it is apparent that the bug still exists. I have a few thoughts about how the bug might be solved, but none of my ideas are without disadvantages. It would not be overly difficult to write a patch that, if a Pentium M was detected, and the PPC tried to limit the frequency in this way (min_freq==max_freq), would cause the PPC's advice to be ignored. However, there is a possibility that this would not solve the problem for everyone, and it is also possible that it would cause problems for others. It might prove to be hard to maintain, as well, since I do not believe that such a patch would be considered suitable for inclusion in the vanilla kernel. Unfortunately, I still don't understand *why* the PPC gives this false information. This may be related to a problem I'm having -- if not, let me know if this should be a separate bug report.
