[Bug 74604] Oregano fails to launch gnucap

2006-12-05 Thread Elie De Brauwer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: oregano

On edgy:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ dpkg -l oregano
Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold
| Status=Not/Installed/Config-files/Unpacked/Failed-config/Half-installed
|/ Err?=(none)/Hold/Reinst-required/X=both-problems (Status,Err: uppercase=bad)
||/ Name  Version
Description
+++-=-=-==
ii oregano 0.50.1-2
tool for schematical capture of electronic circuits

First one should not that version 0.50 is outdated and has been replaced with
version 0.60 released 30 september 2006.

I encountered the following. When I create a simple circuit and want to
run analysis on it using the gnucap engine:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ dpkg -l gnucap
Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold
| Status=Not/Installed/Config-files/Unpacked/Failed-config/Half-installed
|/ Err?=(none)/Hold/Reinst-required/X=both-problems (Status,Err: uppercase=bad)
||/ Name  Version
Description
+++-=-=-==
ii gnucap0.34-5
GNU Circuit Analysis package

I configure everything correctly, select the gnucap engine, select the
binary... the simulation still fails. An strace shows the following:

execve("/usr/bin/gnucap", ["/usr/bin/gnucap", "gnucap",
"/tmp/oregvO0WJL"], [/* 31 vars */]) = 0

Somehow oregano tries to execute:

/usr/bin/gnucap gnucap /tmp/oregVO0WJL

Quoting man gnucap:
NAME
gnucap - GNU Circuit Analysis Package

SYNOPSIS
   gnucap [-b filename] [-i filename]

Anyhow this doesn't work. A simple workaround (apart from fixing the code,
probably this will be fixed in the new release already, but until it goes
upstream it's possible to use this workaround):

I created a shellscript:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cat /usr/bin/run-gnucap.sh
#!/bin/bash

/usr/bin/gnucap -b $2

When you select this shellscript in oregano instead of the real gnucap
binary the simulation will work.

Received the same error, after upgrading from dapper to edgy. (Using

I can confirm the fix suggested in the previous comment worked. As after
the upgrade, the kernel being booted by default was in-fact linux-

[Bug 74601] debian automagic kernel config doesn't obey BIOS order

Public bug reported:

devices.map is correct. However, menu.lst is incorrect, after the
automagic step has run (in this case during a dapper -> edgy dist-

This is not reproducible on Edgy .. I can scale upto 36 and back.

There were a few windows on SOME (2-4) of the workspaces - not all.
I am not sure of the number of rows - but I must have tried with 1,2 and 4.

[Bug 74597] slimserver has many problems

2006-12-05 Thread Randal Leavitt
Public bug reported:

The open source software from Slim Devices at

http://www.slimdevices.com/index.html

is called "slimserver". It seems to run on many other Linux and Unix
systems. However, I downloaded it onto my Ubuntu 6.10 system and the
installation script output several error messages. Slimserver itself
does not put music files into its library properly, and does not seem to
stream various kinds of music files.

I think the Ubuntu people need to talk to the Slim Devices people, just
a bit, to help get these integration issues resolved. Given that Slim
Devices is riding the wave of the next thing in personal computing,
Ubuntu would benefit a lot by being there.

[Bug 65791] Re: DPMS timeout restored incorrectly on login

2006-12-05 Thread John Dong
There must be a more complete way of just simply castrating kdebase of
kenergy altogether, since its functionality is all done by guidance, and
heck kenergy isn't even user-visible in any fashion.

I'd rather see that happen than any of the workarounds posted this far.

I still have an inclination towards my method as a workaround if the
ideal solution takes too long because I don't think kenergy should be
calling DPMSSetTimeouts at all; in Kubuntu it's none of kenergy's
business.

Either way, please consider a fix and release to SRU in a timely manner because
this is one of the more annoying regressions that KUbuntu edgy has generated.

[Bug 74592] [Feisty] Daily alternate image 20061205.2 install report

2006-12-05 Thread Flavio Martins
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: debian-installer

 * Chosen keyboard layout not in effect during installation. (pt)

 * Partitioning step was where things got wild.
- Confusing screen. First option labeled "0" with the others being labeled
"guided*". I guess the first option is meant to be labeled "Manual
partitioning".
- Had a hard time getting to the manual partitioning screen, after trying
to "Go back" several times I managed to get to it.
- My hard drive is now reported to be the device /dev/sda. This is the
first time on this laptop with any Linux distrribution. Usually detected as
/dev/hda.
- Related to the previous item, during the partitioning i change the
current console and a line clearly read that ide-* modules were not found. The
module ata_piix seems to be handling my hard drive with no problems. (feature?)

 * Maybe due to the previous item, grub refused to install to /dev/sda1:
- Output seems to read that grub-install couldn't find a "BIOS handler".

I'm attaching some files.

[Bug 74590] dns is not properly functional

2006-12-05 Thread Jerry Haltom
Public bug reported:

Immediately after connecting to a PPTP VPN /etc/resolv.conf contains the
DNS servers sent by the remote PPTP connection, and only those entries.
The previous entries sent by DHCP are removed. After a few minutes, the
PPTP entries are removed and replaced with the original DHCP entries.
This is broken.

The cause I believe is that PPTP itself replaces /etc/resolv.conf, but
then dhclient refreshes it periodically.

Optimally, NM would handle the creation of /etc/resolv.conf, taking both
the DHCP and PPTP entries and combining them. Probably in DHCP, PPTP
order.

[Bug 74589] On Close: "Save Changes To ... ?" Window Exhibits Odd Behavior

2006-12-05 Thread Forest Bond
Public bug reported:

When closing gedit, if the document has not yet been saved, gedit asks
if it should save the document. My tendency is to use tab to move from
one control to the next. In doing so, I have noticed that the two text
labels in the window will accept cursor focus. I can select and copy
text from these labels, however, they appear as though they should be
static fields that cannot be used in this way. Just seems like a bit of
a quirk, but should probably be fixed.

To be clear, I was able to copy and paste the following text, but I
don't think that that should be possible:

Save the changes to document "Unsaved Document 1" before closing?

[Bug 65791] Re: DPMS timeout restored incorrectly on login

2006-12-05 Thread Francisco
Hi John, greetings for nailing the bug! I wouldn't have the time not
even to try.

By taking a look on the code, it seems the multiply by 60 thing crept in when
they added the capability to get the system settings. The hardwired constants
DFLT_STANDBY, DFLT_SUSPEND and DFLT_OFF are meant to be minutes, so there are
those "60 *" to make then seconds. But the system settings are already in
seconds! So, my fix would be:
 - make those constants mean seconds (multiply then by 60)
 - take out those "60 *" and let it set the timeouts

What do you think?

Considering that this bug is not in upstream, it is most likely
dependent on https://launchpad.net/products/rosetta/+bug/68014 to be

And just closing all translation bugs is a bad policy, considering that:
 - most users can't change anything in Rosetta (for good reasons)
 - it takes ages to find where to fix translation bugs using Rosetta
 - Rosetta has a habit of reverting the fixes after some time[*]

through KControl, which is not on the K Menu by default.
