[Bug 78661] Re: Black themes/High Contrast Inverse theme Bugs
** Description changed: Binary package hint: gtk2-engines-highcontrast I have found out that using black themes in general in ubuntu currently has many bugs. Let me post some here for example, I'll add to the list as I see some more: * In Synaptic, the percentages in the progress bars are invisible after black background covers the percentage black text. - I suggest that we make the progress bar text active instead when using high contrast mode, w/c changes color to the inverse of the color of it's background. * Deluge and Tomboy won't change their text color from black after changing to a High Contrast theme if you don't log out. * Nautilus text still uses black unless you change it in the gtkrc-2.0 file. + - Maybe an option to change the nautilus text color on the preferences + window would make this job easier for novice users, and might also make + the desktop icon text color easier to manipulate by users who use light + wallpapers. + * In Firefox, the search box in website like art.gnome.org has black text on black background and the post title box in LiveJournal has white - text on white background, even when the Use System Colors box in Firefox + text on white background, along with DeviantArt and who knows how many + other websites out there even when the Use System Colors box in Firefox Preferences->Content->Colors is unchecked. + + - A good solution might be to force firefox to still use black text on + white background on those controls or just make the Use System Colors + checkbox effect work on all controls. That way, websites who think that + controls normally have black text and freely change the background color + to something light will still be visible. + + Putting a trick like background color detection for an adaptive text + color feature might work better but is much programming work. We should fix them. I love black themes and I know there are many other people who do so too, by fixing these we enable good black themes to sprout out of ubuntu and in the whole linux world in general since these bugs stop people from using black themes considering they are buggy. P.S. I can post screenshots upon request. -- Black themes/High Contrast Inverse theme Bugs https://launchpad.net/bugs/78661 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 61388] Re: random freeze (probably bcm43xx)
my powerbook is doing a very similar thing, once and a while with bcm43xx loaded, the keyboard will freeze, mouse still works. When I log out using gdm (no other way) I get those very same "NETDEV WATCHDOG: transmit timed out" messages and the machine just prints it out over and over, I have to manually turn off the machine. I don't see any pattern as to when it happens, but often enough that I have blacklisted bcm43xx and modprobe only when I need it. I hope this gets fixed at some point. [Bug 78756] gnome-volume-manager-gthumb stopped working in Feisty
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-volume-manager I'm using Feisty from the repositories. To access the images on my Kodak C533 I just plug its USB plug in and Ubuntu runs (as per System -> Preferences -> Removable Drives and Media) "gnome-volume-manager-gthumb %h" and I can save my pics easily. Today it wouldn't work (it was working last week :). [Bug 78755] X Does Not Start From Installation CD
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg This problem occurs with Ubuntu Edgy and (so far) Feisty. I have three computers, and each of them will not start X with the live cd/main install cd. I traced the problem to this line of xorg.conf: BusID "PCI:1:0:0" If I change it to this (sudo vim /etc/X11/xorg.conf) it will work when I "startx": #BusID "PCI:1:0:0" All three of my computers have onboard video cards, two of which have no way of disabling them, all three of them do not use the onboard video. Seeing this line removed from xorg would make me very happy, I don't if that line is useful for anything at all but there is probably more to it than I'm aware of. I feel that the line above should be completely removed from xorg going forward, xorg has always been able to select the appropriate device in my experience. Sorry if this is a duplicate of another bug, I did search before posting this. Note: The computers with this issue are a Dell GX50, a Dell GX150, and a custom built PC. The Dell bios options for video are only "Onboard" or "Auto". Update: It turns out that ifdown is only a temporary fix, after a while the wireless network always comes back. Is there any way to temporary switch off the network manager? The bug is pretty annoying when one is in a location where the wireless network is secured through a login web page, because it results in a sudden apparent loss of network connectivity (e.g., from one moment to the next, the email program cannot connect to server anymore, because network-manager has decided that now all network has to go through the wireless, which however needs to be authenticated through a web page). -- network-manager insists on connecting to wireless network, even if wireless option is disabled https://launchpad.net/bugs/78491 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 78693] Re: Slow reboot sequence
I think Piero means the time during which the BIOS runs the POST check, or whatever that's called. I've never heard of such a "warm reboot" but I have noticed a difference between the two OSes on my Dell 8400 and Inspiron B130. What we really need is more information about whatever feature of the BIOS this is. [Bug 78564] Re: kmail: French accentuated characters displayed as little squares
Hi, The setting you pointed me to in Kmail is UTF-8. I changed it for iso-8859-15 and now, everything seems to be fine, i.e. there are no little squares anymore with those French accentuated characters. Thank you. Note however that only some messages with French accentuated characters (about 20% I would say) that were badly displayed. In other words, UTF-8 could be considered to work 80% of the time with those characters. In my wife's Kubuntu Dapper's laptop, the same setting in Kmail is iso-8859-15 and everyhting is displayed right. Obviously, someone (from the Kubuntu and/or KDE devs) have decided to change the default setting to UTF-8, as it appears to be now in Edgy. There could be some good reasons to do it this way, but as far as I'm concern, iso-8859-15 works better. [Bug 77710] Re: Wrong keys showup in xdosemu
Same problem for me, here some additions I found while investigating the problem: I use a german keyboard too, but on a regular pc. But I found even more keys (combinations) not working: @ (Alt Gr+q) and \ (Alt Gr+ß) do also not work, even everything using the Alt Gr-key. The problem is independant from the dosemu- or freedos-version, even when running MS-DOS in an older dosemu-version the problem occurs. All combinations of dosemu an DOS I could test do have this problem on ubuntu, but not on a debian box. On Debian with the same configuration it does work. Now the interesting result: as I told on a Debian it dos work. I tried to run dosemu it remotley, making a ssh connection from debian to ubuntu, starting the dosemu on ubuntu and using it trough the X-server on Debian. And the result was: all keys are working correctly! So it seems not to be a problem of dosemu. The test vice versa: logging in on Ubuntu, making a ssh to Debian, and starting the dosemu there. What happens: the described problem . instead of i and so on. And this with a dosemu known to run locally on the other machine. So my conclution was: this is a problem of X-server or something related to the X-server on Ubuntu. At this point my investigation had to stop. -- Wrong keys showup in xdosemu https://launchpad.net/bugs/77710 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
