[Bug 63435] Re: problem with acpi suspend/hibernate (edgy beta1)

2007-01-18 Thread Donatas Glodenis
Now, with Edgy, I use power manager (the defaul program) and not
kpowersave, and I do not have that problem any more - my laptop does
hibernation and suspend quite successfully.

However, I have noticed that if I have a bluetooth usb stick inserted
(and maybe a simple usb memory stick as well), I get strange effects:
after resuming from hibernate the computer in about half a minute
suddenly shuts down. What logs I should attach to help you find what the
problem is?

I can do other testing things as well if someone tells me what to do.
Would the logs you referred to above be still useful?

Another thing on Edgy: after upgrade to Edgy the hibernate did not work,
only the suspend. Later I noticed, that the problem was, that the
upgrade corrupted my swap partition (it was no longer displayed as swap)
and so there was nowhere to hibernate. This also happened on my home
computer, so it must be a problem.

[Bug 80404] Please remove freecraft from Ubuntu

2007-01-18 Thread Emmet Hikory
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: freecraft

Freecraft has been superceded by Stratagus, and Blizzard (developers of
WarCraft/StarCraft) have requested that the Freecraft name not be used
for this type of game (references:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stratagus,
http://happypenguin.org/newsitem?id=3801). Freecraft is further plagued
by bug #74206, causing it to be unusable under some circumstances.

Stratagus 2.1-9.1 is currently distributed in the repositories. While
Freecraft remains in Debian, it has not had a maintainer upload since
2004-10-03.

2007-01-18 Thread Rouben
Requesting backports to dapper and edgy. Desired release already
available in feisty.

Compatibility should not be an issue, since this is a fairly minor
bugfix release (0.6.1 -> 0.6.2).

As reported by Johan already:
suPHP 0.6.2 has been released.
The following problems have been fixed with this release:

* Double free() problem with certain versions of GCC

Features / improvements:

* Apache 2.2 compatibility (Second reason why we need at least a
backport)

[Bug 71178] Re: Bug reported on exiting firefox browser

2007-01-18 Thread Alex Latchford
Hello rohitesh,

Thank you for the bug report, can I ask you what the steps are to
reproduce this problem? Does it happen every time you do these steps or
was a one time crash?

To the crash reporters, could you please install the firefox-dbg package and
try to obtain a backtrace (or crash report) by following the instructions on
 https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MozillaTeam/Bugs
This will greatly aid us in tracking down your problem.

Can I also ask the Security Team to confirm this is an issue? I am
really not sure that it is..

Thanks again, Alex.

  Binary package hint: libapache2-mod-suphp

Whenever suphp refuses to run a script for any reason (e.g. UID/GID out
of configured allowable range, wrong permissions, etc), it causes the
following error messages to appear in the Apache error log:

  ---SNIP---
[Mon Nov 27 17:56:12 2006] [error] [client 142.150.160.59] Premature end of

*** double free or corruption (fasttop): 0x0806f9f8 ***
  ---SNIP---

As you can see, the above are three distinct examples:

  1. [Mon Nov 27 17:56:12 2006] was caused by the target script being outside
of the allowable suphp docroot.
  2. [Mon Nov 27 17:56:41 2006] was caused by wrong ownership: owner UID of the
target script file was less than the allowable UID.
  3. [Mon Nov 27 17:57:18 2006] was caused by wrong permissions (the www-data
user/group has no read access to the script in question).

In all three cases, the last error message seen was always "*** glibc
detected *** double free or corruption (fasttop): 0x0806f9f8 ***" which
is a bit unnerving. I am not sure if this problem is potentially
  exploitable.

Note that this seems to be a known issue with suphp, and the latest
release (0.6.2) seems to have addressed the issue according to the suphp
  homepage: http://www.suphp.org/

[Bug 80408] Digicom USB Wave 54 (zd1211B) don't work with Feisty

2007-01-18 Thread Bobbix
Public bug reported:

- Software:
Ubuntu Feisty Herd2 (Live CD i386)
- Hardware:
PC i386 with 2.4Ghz CPU, 512Mb Ram, Mb Asus P4P800, Nvidia GeForce4 MX440 Agp 8x
Net: Dongle Digicom USB Wave 54 (with zd1211B chipset - "driver in XP
zd1211Bu.sys")

If I insert the Digicom Wifi USB Wave 54, Feisty it recognizes her as zd1211
and appears in the list of the cards in net manager.
Unfortunately however it is not possible to configure her because the system
close the window of net manager (crash?).

I have tried to restart again the system but with the USB pen already
inserted, in this case the system freeze on startup and only removing
the device the system it takes back the phase of boot but then not
recognize the device anymore.

Unfortunately the versions of Hardware, chipset (zd1211 and zd1211B),
the versions of Driver (so many and perhaps too) and the versions of
kernels, don't make simple to shape and to install this device.

Note: on Edgy i've installed with success the same hardware with
NDISWRAPPER using windows drivers.

[Bug 80410] firefox-totem-flash crash Yahoo! Music Video Player BETA

2007-01-18 Thread alex_mayorga
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

Binary package hint: totem

Ingredients:
- Plain Ubuntu Edgy Eft 6.10 with latest patches
- Totem that comes with it 2.16.2
- Mozilla Firefox that comes bundled 2.0.0.1
- Recently released Adobe Flash Player for Linux 9.0.31.0
- Yahoo! Music Video Player BETA
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/music/videos/beta/beta01.html

Recipe:
Just start using the new Flash based video player on Yahoo! Music. Kick back
for a little while watching the videos and you should be a pretty bad crash
with no user intervention.

Results:
It crashes Totem -> crashes Firefox (Flash) -> randomly leaves Ubuntu in
inoperable status.
I've been able to reproduce it on my system and I've got two .crash report and
a trace of the core dump that I'll attach.

[Bug 80256] Re: Synaptic package manager hard to find in Feisty gnome-control-center

2007-01-18 Thread Mephisto
I know how to create shortcuts, I don't need help for that. I also don't want
to type 'syn' in the control center search bar, since that's just another way
to slow down launching a (for me) often used program.
I'm sure there'll be more people that would be annoyed by this when feisty
comes out, since the package manager is the normal way to install/remove
software, so it's probably needed a lot more than all the other control center
items. I could always put a launcher in my panel, sure, but I'd rather see this
solved the proper way: by fixing the menu icon.

[Bug 80413] intermittent X crashes with edgy

2007-01-18 Thread John Pye
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

About 3 times a day, my X server is crashing. I get a black screen with
a text cursor for a few seconds then the Ubuntu login screen appears.

It seems usually to happen when hit 'send' on an email, or click a link
after reading a web page, so something about network activity possibly?
I do a lot of other work on the computer (compiling and editing code,
viewing lots of PDFs, plotting graphs, etc) but these other things just
don't seem to be coinciding with any crashes.

I looked at bugs 70054 and 71913 but neither of those seem to be quite
the same. I checked for some of the error messages cited in those in the
X log but didn't see anything similar. I have 1 GB RAM, 3 GHz P4, SIS
video adapter (that dpkg-reconfigure wasn't able to detect).

Please, tell me what diagnostics I should be trying so that next time I
see this I can gather the right info.

Cheers
JP

[Bug 43324] Re: There is no 64 bit package available.

2007-01-18 Thread Peter Brown
today i was mucking about with building wine from the source packages on my
feisty amd64 box as i have been on random occasions for a while.
today i thought i would try getting wine built as a 32bit app.
so using the LDFLAGS from the Ubuntu section of this page
http://wiki.winehq.org/WineOn64bit.
i was not sure which file to put them in and after working out that
debian/rules seemed to be the place i added those LDFLAGS to this bit of that
file.

ifeq ($(DEB_BUILD_ARCH), amd64)
LDFLAGS="-L/lib32 -L/usr/lib32 -Wl,-rpath,/lib32 -Wl,-rpath,/usr/lib32"
endif

so after much compiling it seems to have worked and i installed the
resulting packages and now i am going to do some more testing and see
what breaks and what works.

i have generated a diff file and attached it.
my package skills are a little lacking but i am happy to help with more testing
as required.

Re: [Bug 76024] Re: kicker cpu usage when autohide enabled

2007-01-18 Thread soyangel
CPU usage happens all the time, not just when hiding/unhiding... Just
disabling kicker autohiding makes kicker to not waste CPU.

That's why I reported it, of course there's no problem with the
appearing and desappearing of kicker when on mouse over.

You can replicate this behaviour just with adduser and the default
kubuntu desktop skel.

Peter,

Could you please try running configure with the above flags and
--verbose and see if it reports anything missing?

Also, have you made any modifications to the system other than
installing packages that are relevant (eg manually linking libraries in
/usr/lib32)? Ideally we can incorporate all needed "hand-linking" into
the dependencies in a functional 64-bit package.

[Bug 80415] language disruption

2007-01-18 Thread achevrier
Public bug reported:

I've used Ubuntu Dapper for 6 months with no real problem.
My language packs installed are French (principal) and English.
All my option menu and tex applications was translated in French when opening.
But :
Since yesterday, suddenly, after an automatic common update, many disruptions
appeared in option menus of ALL applications, as well as Nautilius or
Evolution, or Desk menu.
Facts :
For a same application, some option menus are in English when other option
menus of this application are in French, without any logic.
For exemple I can read :
Système -> Préférences
-> About me
-> Assistive ...
-> Bureau à distance
-> Desktop background
-> disque amovible
etc ...

In Evolution, some parts are in English and other are in French.

It is a sudden and strange disruption

[Bug 80417] i810 modesetting driver can't be installed concurrently with ubuntu-desktop

2007-01-18 Thread rentar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-i810-modesetting

I'd like to try the i810 modesetting branch for experimentation in
feisty fawn (I'm aware that both feisty and that driver aren't stable
yet). But unfortunately there is no way (short of some --force-*
options) to install both xserver-xorg-video-i810-modesetting and ubuntu-
desktop (because the latter has a dependency chain running from xorg ->
xserver-xorg -> xserver-xorg-video-all -> xserver-xorg-video-i810, which
is conflicting with xserver-xorg-video-i810).

I think that a "Provides: xserver-xorg-video-i810" in

[Bug 78811] Re: CAN'T UMOUNT REMOVABLE MEDIA

2007-01-18 Thread Laurent
without the patch, the icon is correctly displayed.
after a fresh reboot, the icon is displayed when the device is plugged in
before login but it's not automatically mounted.
And it starts being automounted at startup only when the device has been
manually mounted before.

it means: (from a fresh reboot, device plugged in)
- log in => good icon not mounted, log off
- log in again => good icon, device not mounted, click on the icon, device is
now mounted (icons is now a mounted removable device), logoff (the device is
automatically umounted)
- log in again => good icon, device is mounted

I don't have Feisty installed, and I don't have time to try.
