[Bug 55272] Re: Error during device I/O message when using scan utilities
I have now fitted a computer (AMD-64 running Dapper) with an IEEE-1394 Firewire port, connected the scanner via that interface (it shows up at /dev/sg0) and, after tweaking permissions, xsane works it flawlessly. Another Epson Perfection 2450 Photo user (running various versions of Fedora Core) reports essentially identical behaviour. [Bug 34394] Re: Switch user not working
I think I've got the same bug on my Toshiba A120 - and i'm happy to provide whatever info is required. On my machine, I can switch users, but after logging in as the second user I cannot use the mouse (touchpad on laptop)... so it appears as if the system has stopped responding (as original reporter said), but I can infact do alt-F2 open a terminal etc etc. So, if there's any info I can provide, just let me know. (Guessing the touchpad has not been freed for use by previous user?) I'll try to grab a USB mouse and see if it's actually related to the touchpad. -- Switch user not working https://launchpad.net/bugs/34394 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 34394] Re: Switch user not working
OK, I can confirm that the non responsiveness is limited only to the touchpad (on my computer anyway). If I plug in a USB mouse and switch users I can move the mouse cursor with the USB mouse, but not the touchpad. Which then led me to Bug #60544: [edgy]synaptics touchpad stop work in new session user. My issue is certainly a duplicate of 60544, but perhaps if Albert can test with a USB mouse also, we can mark this as a duplicate (although DavidCowell's bug seems different). -- Switch user not working https://launchpad.net/bugs/34394 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 80614] Re: Intel D3C5201 motherboard doesn't shutdown when hibernating
Can you test this with an amd64 install as well? Marc, we need i386 and amd64 testing on all the systems that are 64-bit capable. Which pretty much means all the Intel stuff (Core2 is 64-bit). Most people are going to be using this in 64-bit mode, so primary testing should be done with the 64-bit amd64 distribution. One thing I'm wondering, if you manually power of the machine after hibernate, does it resume properly on boot? Does a normal shutdown work as well, or is this problem on during hibernation? Public bug reported: Binary package hint: jscalibrator Athlon 64 3000, Ubutu 6.10 Edgy. I have a wireless gamepad, a Saitek P3000, which I plugged in, and was detected and installed fine. I then attempted to calibrate it using jscalibrator. All my axis controls and buttons looked like they were working fine. I may then have re-calibrated it one or twice more. I then tried it in several games, like Planet Pengiun Racer, and some games under wine. Although the buttons worked, the axis controls did not. They just didn't function at all. After looking in the forums, I found a few solutions, one of which was to unplug my gamepad usb cable, and re-insert it, and then *do not* calibrate it. I tried this and it worked fine! You can fix that in Ubuntu from: https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/edgy/+source/adept/+translations Change edgy with the distro release you are using. [Bug 72287] Re: Apple MacBook backlight brightness doesn't work
It turns out that on suspend/resume, the backlight control register is clobbered to all-zeros. The only way to fix this is to use vbetool to save/restore the BIOS state. This is currently broken on the macbook due to the init scripts being out of order (vbesave runs before acpid, and on macbook this causes vbesave to fail to detect that we're a laptop). There is, however, another fix. The attached program (which is a hackish modification of part of the patch submitted upstream) will reset the value of the register. This seems to be sufficient to get the card working properly again (ie: no need for a full vbetool state restore). Link with -lpci. This code needs to be somewhere -- be it in the kernel, the X server, HAL or the system resume scripts -- but only run for Macbooks. I'm guessing that for now, HAL or system resume scripts is the easy answer. Also: to do this properly we should probably look at the value of the backlight at suspend, save this value, then write the same value back on resume. The current code just sets to max value on resume. David is currently romping around in the aussie outback. I'll try to nail him down to find out what he thinks :) ** Attachment added: unclobber the backlight register on resume http://librarian.launchpad.net/5827146/fixbacklight.c -- Apple MacBook backlight brightness doesn't work https://launchpad.net/bugs/72287 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 81099] Bad management of CMYK files (detected as RGB)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: krita Hello, I've just been sent CMYK JPEG files instead of RGB ones; they're made in Adobe Photoshop CS (Windows XP). As far as I know, they have no specific color profile embedded. Colors seemed strange to me when I saw the files in Nautilus as a thumbnail, so I opened one with Krita (as Gimp doesn't handle CMYK), thinking it would be in CMYK while I expected RGB. Krita reports (in file information) that it is in RGB. When trying to convert the color space, default destination is CMYK and if I force RGB, the colors are converted from the wrong ones. I phoned the person that sent me the pictures and he confirmed to me that he forgot to convert them before e-mailing them and that they are indeed in CMYK. There seems to be a problem with colorspace detection in Krita. ** Affects: koffice (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Bad management of CMYK files (detected as RGB) https://launchpad.net/bugs/81099 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
