[Bug 55272] Re: Error during device I/O message when using scan utilities

2007-01-23 Thread Andrew Packer
I have now fitted a computer (AMD-64 running Dapper) with an IEEE-1394
Firewire port, connected the scanner via that interface (it shows up at
/dev/sg0) and, after tweaking permissions, xsane works it flawlessly.
Another Epson Perfection 2450 Photo user (running various versions of
Fedora Core) reports essentially identical behaviour. Therefore, is the
problem with the more recent version(s) of libusb, rather than with
libsane?

[Bug 34394] Re: Switch user not working

2007-01-23 Thread Michael
I think I've got the same bug on my Toshiba A120 - and i'm happy to
provide whatever info is required.

On my machine, I can switch users, but after logging in as the second
user I cannot use the mouse (touchpad on laptop)... so it appears as if
the system has stopped responding (as original reporter said), but I can
infact do alt-F2 open a terminal etc etc.

So, if there's any info I can provide, just let me know. (Guessing the
touchpad has not been freed for use by previous user?)

I'll try to grab a USB mouse and see if it's actually related to the
touchpad.

[Bug 34394] Re: Switch user not working

2007-01-23 Thread Michael Nelson
OK, I can confirm that the non responsiveness is limited only to the
touchpad (on my computer anyway). If I plug in a USB mouse and switch
users I can move the mouse cursor with the USB mouse, but not the
touchpad.

Which then led me to Bug #60544: [edgy]synaptics touchpad stop work in
new session user. My issue is certainly a duplicate of 60544, but
perhaps if Albert can test with a USB mouse also, we can mark this as a
duplicate (although DavidCowell's bug seems different).

[Bug 80614] Re: Intel D3C5201 motherboard doesn't shutdown when hibernating

2007-01-23 Thread Ben Collins
Can you test this with an amd64 install as well?

Marc, we need i386 and amd64 testing on all the systems that are 64-bit
capable. Which pretty much means all the Intel stuff (Core2 is 64-bit).

Most people are going to be using this in 64-bit mode, so primary
testing should be done with the 64-bit amd64 distribution.

One thing I'm wondering, if you manually power of the machine after
hibernate, does it resume properly on boot? Does a normal shutdown work
as well, or is this problem on during hibernation?

Thanks

[Bug 81093] Gamepad axis not working after calibration

2007-01-23 Thread Kieron Wilkinson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: jscalibrator

Athlon 64 3000, Ubutu 6.10 Edgy.

I have a wireless gamepad, a Saitek P3000, which I plugged in, and was
detected and installed fine. I then attempted to calibrate it using
jscalibrator. All my axis controls and buttons looked like they were
working fine. I may then have re-calibrated it one or twice more. I then
tried it in several games, like Planet Pengiun Racer, and some games
under wine. Although the buttons worked, the axis controls did not. They
just didn't function at all.

After looking in the forums, I found a few solutions, one of which was
to unplug my gamepad usb cable, and re-insert it, and then *do not*
calibrate it. I tried this and it worked fine! So I can only assume that
jscalibrator is breaking the axis control somehow.

Here are a link to the forum where people had a similar problem:

[Bug 51609] Re: Broken translation

2007-01-23 Thread Carlos Perelló Marín
You can fix that in Ubuntu from:

https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/edgy/+source/adept/+translations

Change edgy with the distro release you are using.

Once changed in Ubuntu, at the beginning of next month, a new language
pack will be released with that translation fixed.

Of course, that doesn't mean that you shouldn't fix it upstream.
Coordination with upstream is essential.

Cheers.

[Bug 81098] a meaningful name should be given to compressed files if there is only one file to compress

2007-01-23 Thread Vincenzo Ciancia
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus-sendto

I right-click on a _single_ file, then send to, then select the option
to send it as a compressed file. If there are multiple files, giving a
generic name (currently file.EXT) is a good idea, but if there is only
one file, a special case should be made to determine the compressed file
name from the original file name.

Thanks for your bug report, and the pointer to the forums thread.
There's something funny about axis detection for both jscalibrator and
js_demo (in the flightgear package). In general, you don't need to
calibrate your gamepad or joystick prior to playing most games.

[Bug 72287] Re: Apple MacBook backlight brightness doesn't work

2007-01-23 Thread Ryan Lortie
It turns out that on suspend/resume, the backlight control register is
clobbered to all-zeros.

The only way to fix this is to use vbetool to save/restore the BIOS
state. This is currently broken on the macbook due to the init scripts
being out of order (vbesave runs before acpid, and on macbook this
causes vbesave to fail to detect that we're a laptop).

There is, however, another fix. The attached program (which is a
hackish modification of part of the patch submitted upstream) will reset
the value of the register. This seems to be sufficient to get the card
working properly again (ie: no need for a full vbetool state restore).

Link with -lpci.

This code needs to be somewhere -- be it in the kernel, the X server,
HAL or the system resume scripts -- but only run for Macbooks. I'm
guessing that for now, HAL or system resume scripts is the easy
answer.

Also: to do this properly we should probably look at the value of the
backlight at suspend, save this value, then write the same value back on
resume. The current code just sets to max value on resume.

David is currently romping around in the aussie outback. I'll try to
nail him down to find out what he thinks :)

[Bug 81093] Re: Gamepad axis not working after calibration

2007-01-23 Thread Kieron Wilkinson
Hi, that was quick. :)

I don't need to calibrate it? Even when it has analogue controls?

It is this one:
http://www.saitek.com/uk/prod/P3000.htm

You can't really see the analogue controls there, so also see this picture
which is very like it:
http://www.saitek.com/uk/prod/P2900.htm

As I said, if you want me to try anything out to help, just let me know.
I am resonably technically proficient (I'm a software developer by
profession, though I know next to nothing about C/C++ I am afraid), and
I don't mind doing some work/investigation to help sort this out.

[Bug 81099] Bad management of CMYK files (detected as RGB)

2007-01-23 Thread terzag
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: krita

Hello,
I've just been sent CMYK JPEG files instead of RGB ones; they're made in Adobe
Photoshop CS (Windows XP). As far as I know, they have no specific color
profile embedded.
Colors seemed strange to me when I saw the files in Nautilus as a thumbnail, so
I opened one with Krita (as Gimp doesn't handle CMYK), thinking it would be in
CMYK while I expected RGB. Krita reports (in file information) that it is in
RGB. When trying to convert the color space, default destination is CMYK and if
I force RGB, the colors are converted from the wrong ones.
I phoned the person that sent me the pictures and he confirmed to me that he
forgot to convert them before e-mailing them and that they are indeed in CMYK.
There seems to be a problem with colorspace detection in Krita.

[Bug 77872] Re: crash in search_bug_patterns()

2007-01-23 Thread Martin Pitt
 apport (0.42) feisty; urgency=low
 .
   New feature: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ApportImprovements (kernel interface
   change):
 .
   * bin/apport: Support calling without arguments, to support new semantics
agreed in the ApportImprovements spec: macro values (in particular, pid
and signal number) are passed as environment variables.
   * preloadlib/libapport.c: Simulate new kernel behaviour described above.
   * debian/apport.init: Set the kernel's core_pattern sysctl to pipe to apport
if the edgy-style 'crashdump-helper' sysctl helper does not exist.
 .
   Bug fixes:
 .
   * bin/apport-retrace: Beautify error message when report file is not
 accessible. Closes: LP#79568
   * apport/ui.py: Fix crash in the bug pattern search thread if we could
not determine a package name. Closes: LP#77872
   * bin/apport: Only unlink the core dump if it still exists. Closes: LP#80866
   * gtk/apport-gtk.glade: Fix expand/fill attributes so that the expander gets
all the space when resizing the window. Closes: LP#80987
   * problem_report.py, write_mime(): Make sure that multi-line values that go
to the summary are terminated with a newline.
   * apport/ui.py: Fix error message invocation for reporting cloakroom upload
 failure.
   * problem_report.py, write_mime(): Fix off-by-one comparison of the 'inline
text' treshold, so that apport's StacktraceTop field appears in bug
summaries. Also fix a corner case in CR line ending handling. Check both
 things in the test suite.
   * gtk/apport-gtk: Add missing 'import subprocess.'. Closes: LP#81007
   * debian/control: Bump apport's and apport-gtk's dependency to python-apport
to make sure that apport.ui is available. Closes: LP#81019
   * apport/ui.py: Add missing 'import pwd'. Closes: LP#81033
 .
   Minor improvements:
 .
   * apport/ui.py: Get the cloakroom ticket number from the
X-Launchpad-Blob-Token HTTP header instead of parsing the resulting page.

[Bug 69760] Re: TypeError: iso-8859-1

2007-01-23 Thread Will Hawes
Mailman 2.1.9 can be installed on an Edgy system using backports as
follows.

1) Add the following to /etc/apt/sources.list:

deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu edgy-backports main restricted
universe multiverse

2) Run the following:

sudo apt-get update
apt-cache madison mailman

3) The above will give a list of available mailman versions. Install the
most recent one from the edgy-backports repository, in this case
1:2.1.9-4ubuntu1~edgy1, as follows:

sudo apt-get install mailman=1:2.1.9-4ubuntu1~edgy1

Note that you may need to (re)move the contents of
/var/lib/mailman/qfiles before the updated version will install.

[Bug 68347] Re: Crashes on login with dbus_g_method_return_error()

2007-01-23 Thread Simon Law
** Summary changed:

- crashes on start-up sometimes
+ Crashes on login with dbus_g_method_return_error()

** Description changed:

- amd64
+ This appears to happen on Dapper, at least on amd64, and seems related
+ to dbus_g_method_return_error() which segfaults.
