Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. Unfortunately we can't
fix it, because your description didn't include enough information. You
may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively"
. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the
problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems.

[Bug 81800] New upstream release: 0.5.4

2007-01-26 Thread Johan Kiviniemi
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tracker

According to the release notes, among the new features are:

• Indexing at ludicrous speed - massively optimised indexing so its now
10× faster than previous version. Indexing speeds are now around 100
text files per second (which is about the maximum possible considering
the I/O time to read 100 files from a hard drive).

• Index while you work – now scheduled even better so it should never
slow the system down whilst allowing users to work without being
affected by or even noticing it.

The upstream package also contains a plugin for deskbar-applet.

I too confirm this. It affects only the current user.

Mine has been Breezy->Dapper->Edgy->Feisty upgrade, using apt-get update
+ apt-get dist-upgrade.

I think until this is fixed, it better be Control Center better be
removed from the menu :)

[Bug 81609] Re: X scrambled at liveCD startup (after bios upgarde?)

Sorry.

That was 6.10 Edgy

SInce then I have tried Ubuntu-6.10-AMD64, which is impossible to read
from after the menu options.. as I said earlier, safe graphics mode
makes no difference, neither does putting it at lowest res. is there
anyway of turning off the graphic install mode?

what I'm comfused about is why it worked perfectly before the bios
upgrade (essential for getting winxp to run, and which is now running as
well as winxp can be expected to run), but now is worse than ever.

[Bug 81640] Bad berformance with io scheduler cfg (which might be standard in generic kernel)

2007-01-26 Thread elias
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.17-10-generic

When using the i686 kernel in Dapper or when I use the generic kernel in
Edgy my system performs very badly! It is as if the apps would only be
allowed to use a short frame of kernel time every 4 seconds or so.

That's why I switched to the i386 kernel, which works fine.

Worked fine, I mean, until I read about tweaking kernel performance by
turning on the cfq io scheduler in the kernel at boot time by appending
elevator=cfq.

Here I was again, experiencing the problems I had with i686 and generic
kernels on the i386 kernel now.

This is, why I suspect that in generic and i686 kernels the same kernel
option might be activated by default and for that reason these kernels
produce the same problems. I read that redhat is using this in the
default kernel, so Ubuntu might as well. So let me tell you, this
scheduler is buggy! DON'T USE IT! It is at least buggy on my hardware
and a friend of mine seems to experience similar problems. I will attach
an lshw.

[Bug 81407] Re: [Feisty] Thinkpad R51 LCD brightness control cycles between lowest settings only

2007-01-26 Thread Paul Sladen
This is down to interaction with 'thinkpad-keys' in 'hotkey-setup'.

Changing the slider updates the NVRAM values for the brightness.
'thinkpad-keys' notices the changes and thinks it's a key-press (Fn-Home
/Fn-End), and generates 'Brightness Up' or 'Brightness Down' commands.
'gnome-settings-daemon' sees "key press" and moves the slider again...
-> loop.

Mostly this normally resolves itself, but on ThinkPads we really need a
way to brightness key presses not to take any action, but *only* to
cause the status to be displayed in the centre of the screen.

[Bug 63402] Re: Edgy Beta cannot boot

2007-01-26 Thread Rouben
Hi Daniel,

Thanks very much for checking this bug with the latest Edgy LiveCD. I
need the following information from you, collected using the latest Edgy
LiveCD:

1. Architecture of the machine (please confirm that it's a 32-bit Intel
machine). Providing the output of "uname -a" would be perfect.
2. Please run "dmesg > dmesg.log" and attach the file "dmesg.log" to this bug.
3. Please run "lspci -vv > lspci-vv.log" and attach the file "lspci-vv.log" to
this bug.
4. Please run "lspci -vvn > lspci-vvn.log" and attach the file "lspci-vvn.log"
to this bug.

Note that the above are the requirements of the Ubuntu kernel team (see
here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelProblems). As soon as you
provide this information, I'll refer the issue to the Ubuntu Kernel
Team, storage group (https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-kernel-storage).

Thanks again for your contribution to Ubuntu!

[Bug 62537] Re: Font rendering glitches with radeon, known bug, patch exists

2007-01-26 Thread espinosa_cz
It's a trivial patch. It would be easy to find affected lines (2-3?) in
current sources and check them by bare eye. There is high probability
that it will fit.

It's not Ubuntu specific, I have just tested SuSE with xorg 7.2rc2, and
it is still there :( I'v got a bad feeling. And it's not limited to OOo,
but also sometimes Firefox and even Konqueror! ..well it's extremely
rare.

[Bug 81787] Can't add JetDirect Printer with the Postscript Driver

2007-01-26 Thread otterpop81
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-cups-manager

Go to System->Admin->Printers in the menu
Double-Click "New Printer"
Select "Network Printer"
Select "HP JetDirect"
Enter a Host IP address
Click Next
Select "HP" as Manufacturer
Select "LaserJet 2100" as model
** THIS NEXT ONE SEEMS TO BE THE KEY
Select "Postscript" as the Driver
Click Forward
Enter a name for the printer, description, etc.
Click Apply

No printer has been added.

If you run gnome-cups-add from the command line and do the same thing,
you get an error message at the end reading:

** (gnome-cups-add:7032): WARNING **: IPP request failed with status
1280

Just before it, is:

Selected ppd file = foomatic:HP-LaserJet_2100-Postscript.ppd

Seems pretty straight forward. It does this every time. I just updated a few
minutes ago, and I'm using 6.10

[Bug 81784] Lenovo ThinkPad R60 not recognized

2007-01-26 Thread katre
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hotkey-setup

My Lenovo ThinkPad R60 wasn't recognized by the init script.

$dmidecode --string system-manufacturer
LENOVO
$dmidecode --string system-version
Thinkpad R60

The problem seems to be that the script is checking for "*Thinkpad*".

Changing this to "*Think[Pp]ad*" fixed the problem for me.
