[Bug 38271] Re: crashes when trying to open ftp.freebsd.org links from RSS reader

2007-02-15 Thread Nick Barkas
I tried this with the version of thunderbird included in feisty, and
could not reproduce. The original rss feed I had trouble with (for
FreeBSD security advisories) seems to give http URLs now. I tried
copying the rdf file to my own machine and changing the URLs to ftp, and
thunderbird didn't crash when I clicked on them. However, it didn't open
the links either; nothing happened when I clicked on them. It may be
that the rdf file I created was broken in some way, but I'm not sure.

In any case I can no longer cause the crash. It would be easier to test
if I could find another rss feed that links to ftp URLs.

[Bug 65656] Re: zenity does not display libnotify message bubble

2007-02-15 Thread era
Reproducible here too, since forever. IIRC I tried to get notifications
already under Breezy, but reverted to using regular dialog boxes
instead. Now on Edgy I get the alert sign (triangular European !
traffic sign) and the exact same three assert messages, but no actual
message.

This particular box is an AMD64 which was installed on Dapper and
updated to Edgy, but I ran Breezy here before and had the same problem
then (again, if my memory is at all reliable).

These are actually two entirely different bugs: one is that hibernation

[Bug 47174] Re: xsane does not start

2007-02-15 Thread floundered
mikko, you are mostly correct! Deleting /home/user/.sane indeed makes
Xsane start up correctly and run the scanner. However, if I close Xsane
then start it again during the same session, the same hanging behaviour
occurs. This repeats if I delete .sane again.

As far as I can tell, .sane is set to user access all the way through.
I didn't check the individual files in /.sane/xsane/, so maybe I need to
change some rights to a file in there.

I believe this is a bug in xsane, both because it lets itself get hung
while it should throw an error if it runs into a permissions proble, and
because it appears to be creating a file or content that it cannot
access afterwards.

[Bug 1225] Re: Glom: missing dependency - PostgreSQL

2007-02-15 Thread Martin Pitt
One problem you probably do have is that the regular debian/Ubuntu
postgres installation causes a postgres instance to be run at start up
(though the user can stop it in the Services control panel). That makes
sense if you install postgres directly, but it's not needed or used by
 Glom.

I am not going to change this -- people installing PostgreSQL usually do
so because they want to use it, and Debian's/Ubuntu's philosophy is that
things should 'just work' without fiddling with unnecessary
configuration.

As a compromise, I propose this: glom Recommends: postgresql-8.2, so
that it is handled as a dependency by all the standard packaging
frontends, but if people know what they are doing, they can avoid
installing it.

Glom should then check for the availability of pg_createcluster and use
it to create a cluster that belongs to the user invoking glom. If
pg_createcluster is not available, glom should ask the user to install a
postgresql server.

  * Urgency medium, only safe fixes and this needs to go into Etch due to

  * debian/supported_versions: Gracefully fall back on an unknown
distribution, instead of failing package installation completely.
Closes: #400628
  * debian/supported_versions: Some minor factorization.
  * Add Spanish debconf translations, thanks to Javier Fernández-Sanguino
Peña! Closes: #402198
  * pg_createcluster: Add --locale and the various --lc_* options that initdb
supports, and mention in POD that directly setting --encoding is not
recommended. Closes: #395083
  * t/050_encodings.t: Use pg_createcluster's new --locale option in some test
cases.
  * Make testsuite work with just one installed major version (mainly boils
down to disabling upgrade tests).

[Bug 85071] Re: hpijs should be the default driver for HP laserjet printers

2007-02-15 Thread Till Kamppeter
On PostScript printers usually the manufacturer-supplied PPD file is the
recommended one, but manufacturers do not add (recommended) to the
file. So we can fix this only by modifying the gnome-cups-manager to
select the manufacturer-supplied PPD in case that there is no
(recommended) or we need to hack the cups-driverd (part of CUPS which
lists the available PPDs) to add a (recommended) to the appropriate
lines of its list output.

One problem you probably do have is that the regular debian/Ubuntu
postgres installation causes a postgres instance to be run at start up
(though the user can stop it in the Services control panel). That makes
sense if you install postgres directly, but it's not needed or used by
  Glom.

Thanks for the response.

I am not going to change this -- people installing PostgreSQL usually do
so because they want to use it,

This will not change when people are using Glom.

The assumption you are actually making is people installing PostgreSQL
usually want to configure it how it is currently configured. But things
change.

  and Debian's/Ubuntu's philosophy is that
things should 'just work' without fiddling with unnecessary
 configuration.

As a compromise, I propose this: glom Recommends: postgresql-8.2, so
that it is handled as a dependency by all the standard packaging
frontends, but if people know what they are doing, they can avoid
 installing it.

By default, synaptic does not install recommends packages.

Glom should then check for the availability of pg_createcluster and use
it to create a cluster that belongs to the user invoking glom. If
pg_createcluster is not available, glom should ask the user to install a
 postgresql server.

This is not just work. This is Do something extra that I don't
understand, with several ways to get it wrong, so that the application
does something useful and obvious.

This The application that you have installed is not fully installed
dialog will be the first experience of 99.9% of all people using Glom.
And I plan for that to be a lot of people.

Sorry, the entire Gnome stack was updated in the last days, so I cannot
get a proper stack trace out of this any more. Can you please dist-
upgrade to the latest Feisty and see whether you still have the problem?
If it still crashes, please just file a new bug and say so in this bug

and attach python-dbus.files.txt here. I have an idea what could be

Re: [Bug 76523] Re: when firefox is working, cpu start to work heavy and at the end firefox crash. It's not the first time and sometimes the crash became a system crash

2007-02-15 Thread guido983
yesterday it happened again It's strange, because it didn't happen for
more time. Yesterday i saw the cpu works heavy with only 2 pages of firefox
opened. I leave the notebook for some minutes, and after I found the system
crashed. I think, but I'm not sure, it depends from the kernel's update.

 Does this still happen?

[Bug 84999] Re: Missing default gutenprint.xml - printconf error

The strange thing for me here is that if there is no file
/usr/share/foomatic/db/source/driver/gutenprint.xml you should never get
offered the choice of the gutenprint driver. For me it looks like that
foomatic-gui is caching and this cache is outdated.
