[Bug 38271] Re: crashes when trying to open ftp.freebsd.org links from RSS reader
I tried this with the version of thunderbird included in feisty, and could not reproduce. The original rss feed I had trouble with (for FreeBSD security advisories) seems to give http URLs now. I tried copying the rdf file to my own machine and changing the URLs to ftp, and thunderbird didn't crash when I clicked on them. However, it didn't open the links either; nothing happened when I clicked on them. It may be that the rdf file I created was broken in some way, but I'm not sure. In any case I can no longer cause the crash. It would be easier to test if I could find another rss feed that links to ftp URLs. -- crashes when trying to open ftp.freebsd.org links from RSS reader https://launchpad.net/bugs/38271 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 47174] Re: xsane does not start
mikko, you are mostly correct! Deleting /home/user/.sane indeed makes Xsane start up correctly and run the scanner. However, if I close Xsane then start it again during the same session, the same hanging behaviour occurs. This repeats if I delete .sane again. As far as I can tell, .sane is set to user access all the way through. I didn't check the individual files in /.sane/xsane/, so maybe I need to change some rights to a file in there. I believe this is a bug in xsane, both because it lets itself get hung while it should throw an error if it runs into a permissions proble, and because it appears to be creating a file or content that it cannot access afterwards. -- xsane does not start https://launchpad.net/bugs/47174 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1225] Re: Glom: missing dependency - PostgreSQL
One problem you probably do have is that the regular debian/Ubuntu postgres installation causes a postgres instance to be run at start up (though the user can stop it in the Services control panel). That makes sense if you install postgres directly, but it's not needed or used by Glom. I am not going to change this -- people installing PostgreSQL usually do so because they want to use it, and Debian's/Ubuntu's philosophy is that things should 'just work' without fiddling with unnecessary configuration. As a compromise, I propose this: glom Recommends: postgresql-8.2, so that it is handled as a dependency by all the standard packaging frontends, but if people know what they are doing, they can avoid installing it. Glom should then check for the availability of pg_createcluster and use it to create a cluster that belongs to the user invoking glom. If pg_createcluster is not available, glom should ask the user to install a postgresql server. -- Glom: missing dependency - PostgreSQL https://launchpad.net/bugs/1225 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
