[Bug 90020] Kopete should not use a patched contact list by default
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kdenetwork Feisty's Kopete appears to have a modified contact list ( https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FeistyFawn/Herd4/Kubuntu#head- 4d575b0b04e320f919b389b2187bcabfae0f122f ), which is done via Kopete reloading kits ( http://www.google.com/search?q=%22kopete+reloading+kit%22 ). These kits are patches on the source. Unfortunately for me, I am running a high-resolution screen (1600x1200), and the avatars are now unusably small. In addition, the colour scheme of the contact list is not comprehensible to me, and amounts to a low-contrast scheme that makes managing my contact list even more difficult. This problem cannot be easily rectified, since it requires another patched version to be compiled. My proposed solution is reversion to the stock KDE Kopete theme, or otherwise permit the user choice in the various themes. tarek : ) ** Affects: kdenetwork (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed ** Description changed: Binary package hint: kdenetwork - Feisty's Kopete appears to have a https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FeistyFawn/Herd4/Kubuntu#head- - 4d575b0b04e320f919b389b2187bcabfae0f122f">modified contact list, - which is done via http://www.google.com/search?q=%22kopete+reloading+kit%22";>Kopete - reloading kits. [Bug 85259] Re: kde init hangs with 2.6.20 kernel
One of your last comments "It is the combination of kde and 2.6.20 that don't play well together" gave me the impression that it was not a hardware issue. Please add the output of 'lspci -vv' and 'lspci -vvn' to your bug report as attachments so we will know what type of graphics card you have. To use the open source nv graphics driver you can just replace the word "nvidia" with "nv" in your '/etc/X11/xorg.conf' file. While not exactly what you are looking for this wiki page has some information about converting to the binary "nvidia" so you would want to do the opposite thing. ** Changed in: kdebase (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => Brian Murray Status: Confirmed => Needs Info -- kde init hangs with 2.6.20 kernel https://launchpad.net/bugs/85259 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 85259] Re: kde init hangs with 2.6.20 kernel
Yup, kde and 2.6.20 kernel works fine on machines with other graphics chips sets. Please see my orginal report. So I am not supprised that you don't have any problems using kde with the 2.6.20 kernel on other machines. Have you tested? product: Satellite 3000 vendor: TOSHIBA version: PS300L-02UKL I am not currently in front of the laptop, I remember I had the rtl8180 driver error for the working 2.6.19 kernels too. I will up load the dmesag log and syslog from the working 2.6.19 kernel so you can compare them. I expect the problem is with the graphics chips driver. Can you point me to a HOWTO use a opensource nv driver so that I can illimate the binary graphics driver as the problem. And I tried the 2.6.20.9 kernel a few days ago. No go.
