[Bug 106345] i810 modesetting doesn't work with resolution 1366x768
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-i810-modesetting I have a Sony Vaio TX2 with Intel Corporation Mobile 915GM chipset and Ubuntu Feisty Fawn installed. I am using i810 modesetting because the standard i810 driver wasn't able to display the resolution 1680x1050 of my external monitor even with 915resolution. With modesetting it works out of the box except of the MonitorLayout CRT option. But the problem is that with i810 modesetting my LFP with a native resolution of 1366x768 stops working (standard i810 had no problem with my LFP). X recognizes the correct resolution of the LFP but seems to have no mode for it. It crashes/stops if no external monitor is connected. The only possibilty to use the LFP is to replace the resolution 1366x768 with 1024x768 which looks not so good of course. ** Affects: xorg-server (upstream) Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-i810-modesetting (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- i810 modesetting doesn't work with resolution 1366x768 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/106345 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 106341] aspell EATS UP ALL MEMORY and FILLS SWAP when pasting PHP source code into a new mail in KMail
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: aspell System: Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy, kubuntu-desktop, KMail, hungarian locale and spell checking. Memory: 1.5G, more than enough. 2G swap. Add a system monitor applet to see the effect before it gets worse. Alternatively open a konsole an start top in it, then press M (upper M) to sort by memory consumption. Open a new mail in Kmail. Write some text, then paste some PHP code starting in a new line. For example: function array_empty($array) { if ( is_array($array) ) { $res = true; foreach ( $array as $v ) { $res &= array_empty($v); } return $res; } else { return $array == ''; } } Then write some text below the code. Finally try to change the PHP code, press enter into it, etc... At this point spell checking will be severely confused when trying to check PHP source code, and aspell starts to eat up all memory and swap space. Killing aspell stops spell checking and reclaims all the memory eaten up by the process. Some portions of the system remains at the swap that slows down things considerably for some time. The bug can be reproduced reliably and multiple times in KMail's new mail editor. I guess the bug will be in aspell, since it eats up memory. There is a chance that the bug is in KMail and KMail feeds too much input into aspell. I couldn't determine which is the case. ** Affects: aspell (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- aspell EATS UP ALL MEMORY and FILLS SWAP when pasting PHP source code into a new mail in KMail https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/106341 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 103532] Re: NetworkManager can't find any interfaces
I'm not sure about Jeff's situation, but in my case the nm-tool output I posted indicates that network-manager isn't just ignoring the static interface but it is also ignoring the non-static interface. I suspect that it's not ignoring anything but rather that it's barfing. I haven't stepped the code in gdb but print_devices(): didn't get a reply from NetworkManager. doesn't look good to me. None of this changes the fact that on my machine NetworkManager silently stopped working for no clear reason. Applications should not silently fail. Some debugging messages in the syslog would be EXTREMELY helpful. Brian Murray said 3 hours ago: (permalink) It doesn't make network-manager "unhappy" rather it makes network- manager ignore the interface and not configure it. No, but the other ones didn't whine and stated they would switch to Debian Etch because of a bug in a release that is still tested for bugs. You did. The key issue is this: if you want to have a stable distribution stay out of the pre-release cycle. That will save you all disappointments. By using Feisty now, even a week before the final release, you have joined the group of alfa/beta testers whose primary purpose is to find/stumble/crash into the bugs and report them. [Bug 106337] xmms-kde freezes the KDE desktop
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy with kubuntu-desktop installed. CPU: Intel P4 3.0G with HyperThreading (HT) enabled. RAM: 1.5G, more than enough. Login using kdm. Add the xmms-kde applet to the KDE panel. I use a transparent panel at the top, x.org and nvidia driver installed the standard way. The xmms-kde applet freezes the KDE desktop in 30-60 seconds after logging in. Konqueror does not refresh it's contents. Even Firefox cannot refresh itself properly. Killing X or logging out (very slow) helps, but the desktop will freeze after the next login. The only solution is to quickly remove the applet or uninstalling it from the console. Running XMMS may be required to reproduce this bug, but sometimes the applet itself can freeze the desktop. Disabling P4 HT makes things even worse. The desktop completely freezes and you cannot logout or remove the applet. [Bug 103517] Re: [usplash] doesnt detect change in LCD panel (resolution)
I changed the panel itself. The lower part of the LCD crazed over, as happens with many dell laptops. The original panel was a WUXGA (1920x1200), but a replacement for that is too expensive. Hence I bought a WXGA+ (1440x900) screen. This screen was detected immediately by the BIOS, and also by X when booted. The only problem was in usplash.conf, which still read 1920x1200 and hence the boot process would hang + blank screen when it tried to splash.
