Thank you for your bug report. You certainly did your homework before filing it! The dmesg.txt shows that nvidia kernel module is not being loaded. I think hitting that button changes the Xorg configuration file at /etc/X11/xorg.conf Possibly breaking something in there. You could give this a try. It worked for me when I encountered the same problem. Open a terminal and type sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg It'll give you some dialog about xorg related stuff, you might be able to fiddle with it to reconfigure the settings to get X back. [Bug 107917] wireless will not connect to AP which has broadcast connection disabled.
Public bug reported: New Feisty upgrade from Edgy. Linksys WUSB11 v2.6 would not connect to my AP which had broadcast connection disabled, but would connect to other open APs. Enabled broadcast connection and it worked fine, but this was not necessary before with Edgy. [Bug 107651] Re: timezone selection differs alternate vs gaphical install
Just wanted to put a few things out here. The basic issue with the Ubiquity system is that many cities are not listed. For instance, I live in Houston, TX which is a pretty big city, yet it is not an option. In fact, there are very few cities listed in the middle of the US on the map. I can think of two possible solution. 1. Add more cities 2. Put the timezone dividers on the map Other things that may help would be to allow a zoom-in on the map. it is a little hard to tell where you are clicking. I am using Ubuntu Edgy Eft 6.10 and have this EXACT SAME PROBLEM. I cannot do anything to make Firefox not ask me if it is my default browser each time (besides unchecking the box for that behavior). I have tried the "sudo update-alternatives --config x-www-browser" suggestion and the terminal informs me that it is the only program that provides web browsing. I did a fresh install of Kubuntu Feisty and found that there were only three packages not installed by default that needed to be installed in order to get DVDs to play. Since Kubuntu mainly uses xine based media players, this should relate to this bug. The three packages are libdvdread3, libxine1-ffmpeg, and libdvdcss2. libdvdcss2 is not in the Ubuntu repository so it has to be acquired elsewhere. If you don't intend to play encrypted DVDs, you don't need to install libdvdcss2. [Bug 107909] Files corrupt in ubuntu-7.04-dvd-i386.iso
Public bug reported: I found out that 9 Files in the Final release of ubuntu-7.04-dvd-i386.iso are corrupt. The image ISO itself matchs the MD5-hash: ca609edf086eea0c821ba34a5c0a709d *ubuntu-7.04-dvd-i386.iso but the content (9 files) does not match. The most of their file names have been shorten off at the ending. For example: /pool/restricted/l/linux-restricted-modules-2.6.20/nic-restricted-modules-2.6.20-15-generic-di_2.6.20.5-15.20_i386 -> correct should be .udeb /pool/restricted/l/linux-restricted-modules-2.6.20/linux-restricted-modules-2.6.20-15-generic_2.6.20.5-15.20_i386.d -> correct should be .deb /pool/restricted/l/linux-restricted-modules-2.6.20/nic-restricted-firmware-2.6.20-15-386-di_2.6.20.5-15.20_i386.ude -> correct should be .udeb etc... So the image needs to re-build again before releasing to the public. [Bug 102068] Re: Upgrade to feisty broke Kaffeine DVD playback
After doing a fresh install of Kubuntu Feisty, I checked to see which exact packages would be needed to make DVD playback work. There are three packages that are not installed by default that need to be installed before DVD playback will work (actually two in case you're just playing unencrypted DVDs). They are libdvdread3, libxine1-ffmpeg, and libdvdcss2. libdvdcss2 will have to be acquired elsewhere as it is not in the Ubuntu repository. If you don't intend to play encrypted DVDs ever, you don't have to install libdvdcss2. [Bug 107908] Can't configure mount point while installing from disk
Public bug reported: This is a bug in the installer. The way I typically install is to mount the iso, copy the contents to a partition (say /mnt/installer) and edit grub to boot /mnt/installer/vmlinuz or whatever. Apart from the following bug, this works flawlessly and is faster than messing with optical media. It seems that the installer tries to set up the partition as a mount point but this fails because it is already mounted.
