[Bug 111518] Serpintine does not work with LG 'HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8523B"

2007-05-01 Thread Robin J Banfield
Public bug reported:

When I put blank CD-R, CD+R, CD-RW, the correct popup comes up asking me
if I would like to ignore, make audio cd, or make data cd. I choose
audio cd and serpentine opens, I create a playlist of files to put on
disc and when I press write to disc, the progress box comes up with
preparing media files, then about 1 minute later, it tells me to insert
blank disc.

[Bug 111511] Sound doesn't work in Feisty on iMac 24

2007-05-01 Thread nicfagn
Public bug reported:

After a fresh install of Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty on my iMac 24'' Core 2 Duo, I can't
hear any sound from the speakers.
I'd like to point out that this is not the same problem occurring with other
iMacs. It seems that the chipset used by this model is the Realtek ALC885 while
a patch recently applied to alsa project source code for iMac refers to the
Sigmatel chipset.
In fact I found a workaround using a recent snapshot of alsa (post 1.0.14rc3)
and forcing the model option for the snd_hda_intel module to macpro. See here
for details:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=2549232&postcount=13

While doing so I can hear sound from the speakers, I can't record sound
and I don't know if other sound channels are ok, e.g. spdif out or
headphone.

[Bug 111514] Realplayer crashes entire system

2007-05-01 Thread Sb
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: realplayer

Hi,

I'm using Kubuntu Edgy, and I installed Realplayer 10 Gold from the
Ubuntu commercial repos. I also have the mplayerplugin configured in
Firefox. If I goto a site that has embedded Real content, it works
well. When I view a site that has embedded media that opens in
mplayerplugin, it works fine. However, if I visit a site with Real
content AFTER using mplayerplugin, it crashes X and totally hangs my
system, requiring a hard reset.

Thanks.

[Bug 111509] faultTypes serialization broken, exceptions are not being propagated

2007-05-01 Thread nc3
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: python-soappy

server.py:
"""
import SOAPpy
def f():
raise SOAPpy.faultType(faultcode="this is the code",faultstring="this
is the string")

s = SOAPpy.SOAPServer(('',12345))
s.registerFunction(f)
s.serve_forever()
"""
client.py:
"""
import SOAPpy
s = SOAPpy.SOAPProxy('http://localhost:12345')
s.f()
"""

This code works in python2.4, but it doesn't in python2.5, because in
SOAPBuilder.py +283:
"""
meth = getattr(self, "dump_" + type(obj).__name__)
"""

type(obj) has changed (typeFault is subclass of Exception -through
SOAPpy.Errors.Error-, and now
 Exception is a type instead of a class, and str(type(myfaultType)) is not
"instance" but "faultType").

Adding this line at the end of the "dump_instance" definition (line 592 of
SOAPBuilder.py):
"""
dump_faultType = dump_instance # For Python 2.5+
"""
seems to fix it, but I don't know what kind of new errors it might add 0:-)

[Bug 111505] segv from repl

2007-05-01 Thread Sandro Hawke
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nmh

$ sudo apt-get instal nmh mh-e
$ PATH=/usr/bin/mh:$PATH
$ comp
 send a message to yourself
$ inc
 see that message arrive - in my case it's message 7081
$ repl 7081
mhl: signal 11 (core dumped)

For some other message in my inbox I get slightly different output:
$ repl 1
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

I've gotten rid of my replcomps and replgroupcomps, and trimmed my
.mh_profile down to just "Path: Mail"

[Bug 111500] kvpnc doesn't get listed when searching for 'vpn' in 'kde'

Public bug reported:

When I search for 'vpn' and filter by 'KDE' in Adept Installer, I don't
get KVpnc listed, but when I'm filtering by 'Any Suite' it's listed.

This is a quite nasty usability bug IMO :|

[Bug 111499] [apport] firefox-bin crashed with SIGSEGV in __kernel_vsyscall()

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

I was trying to watch a youtube film while copying a large amount of
data from an external USB HDD to my local HDD. When copying big files,
my system often slows down to a crawl (although I have a powerful cpu

[Bug 111492] Zyxel ZyAir G-220v2 wieless card doesn't work with zd1211rw module

2007-05-01 Thread MarcoBertolini
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.20

I have the forementioned card and I know that since kernel 2.6.18, it
should be supported by zd1211rw driver. The problem is that the bus_id
of this particular card is not listed in the driver and so the card
isn't recognized. Luckily the fix is very easy and there's already a
patch floating around

http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/msg31827.html

I applied that and after recompiling the relevant modules everything
works fine.

Please add this simple patch in the updates both of the kernel sources and of
the kernel image in order to have this wireless card work by default

[Bug 111502] network-manager unreliable with multiple APs

2007-05-01 Thread Erik Chakravarty
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

Ubuntu 7.04 (PPC)
Broadcom 4306 (bcm43xx driver)

Network manager is totally unreliable when I use it at my University,
where there are multiple APs.

It drops the connection all the time, and when (more like if) it manages
to reconnect it doesn't re-establish the lost VPN connection. I am
trying to connect to this one wireless network, "central" - there is one
AP on channel 1 and one on channel 11. It works fine if I configure my
device manually through iwconfig to channel 1, maybe n-m tries to keep
switching between the two or something, then occasionally it just
randomly roams to a completely different network for no reason. This
should be apparent from my daemon.log.

All the APs are of similar strength, and as I said they work fine
configured manually without n-m which has been a complete pain in the
backside ever since it was included in Feisty.

[Bug 111491] Segfault in Xvnc when modifier key is used with Xdmx as a client

2007-05-01 Thread Peter Clifton
Public bug reported:

When using Xdmx as a client for Xvnc, when typing $, (as an example of symbol
which requires a modifier key to type, Shift + 4 on a UK keyboard),
the VNC server segfaults.

Its a null-pointer de-reference, so probably not security critical.

I worked up a fix, and it was accepted in SuSE (where I originally
discovered the bug). Its reproducable on Ubuntu.

[Bug 111489] gwget fills up all available memory

2007-05-01 Thread Milen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gwget

Gwget starts by using 7-8 MB of RAM when I run it and continues to fill
it up until it reached 1.8GB out of my 2GB. At that point the system was
barely crawling as it was running out of RAM. When I restarted gwget
everything was back to normal except that it continued to behave the
same way.

It filled up the RAM with about 100-200KBps and it didn't seem to matter
if I have just a few or many downloads open. When they finish
downloading I will see if it will do the same without any downloads.

P.S. The version I have is 0.98.1 in Feisty.

  barely crawling as it was running out of RAM. When I restarted gwget
  everything was back to normal except that it continued to behave the
  same way.

  It filled up the RAM with about 100-200KBps and it didn't seem to matter
  if I have just a few or many downloads open. When they finish
  downloading I will see if it will do the same without any downloads.
+
+ P.S. The version I have is 0.98.1 in Feisty.

[Bug 111483] canont easily see the precise value of a number in a cell

2007-05-01 Thread Francesco Potortì
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnumeric

This is not a bug, but a missing feature.

If a cell's format limits the number of significant figures, there is no easy
way to look
at the precise value. I suggest to have it work the way it does in Excel: when
you select
the cell containing the value, the entry area shows you the value with lots of
decimal
(I suppose it uses the Generic format).

** Affects: gnumeric (Ubuntu)

[Bug 111480] solve tool does not accept literal values for constraints

2007-05-01 Thread Francesco Potortì
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnumeric

This is not a bug, but a missing feature.

When specifying constraints for the Solve tool, one cannot set a literal value.
For example, if I want to constrain a cell to be less than 1, I have to write 1
in some
cell and then make a reference to that cell in the Contraints dialog. It would
be more
natural if I was able to write a 1 rather than a reference to a cell containing
1.

[Bug 111464] Laptopscreens backlight varies when running on battery

2007-05-01 Thread Christian Dalbjerg
Public bug reported:

The problem seems to occur when the laptop is running on battery. The
screens brightness varies very quickly up and down in an seemingly
uncontrolled manner (the brightness itself doesn't vary very much, but
enough for the eye to notice). After a few seconds of flickering, the
brightness-level settles, but only to start flickering again a little
later.

[Bug 111462] X crashes after gdm login with new Intel driver

2007-05-01 Thread Enola Gay
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

I am using the new Intel driver xserver-xorg-video-intel from Ubuntu Feisty
repository since the i810 one doesn't support my external monitor with a
resolution of 1680x1050. With the new driver the external works fine except of
not shutting down the LFP but this is no real problem.
The problem is if the external monitor isn't connected the Intel driver shows
the correct resolution of 1366x768 in gdm but after login X crashes/restarts. I
think it has something to to with the combination Intel driver and screen
resolution but this doesn't happen with the original i810 driver so it isn't
only a problem of screen resolution or X.
Even if I use the old i810 driver, set screen resolution in Gnome to 1366x768,
logout , install the new Intel driver again and restart gdm I got the same
problem. So it is more likely a driver problem.

[Bug 111465] Wacom mouse proximity is broken

2007-05-01 Thread IrYoKu
Public bug reported:

This is related to Ubuntu Feisty.

The problem is that the mouse moves the cursor even when it's a
centimeter from the pad, making it barely usable.

I installed the package wacom-kernel-source, compiled wacom.ko and
installed it, and the problem went away. So I think there is a mismatch
between wacom module and xorg driver versions. In every distribution I
used there is a mismatch between kernel and xorg drivers, always forcing
me to compile from sources.

So I recommend removing the wacom module from the kernel package, and
providing an aditional package that installs the kernel module compiled
from the same sources as the xorg driver (that currently exits). This
would solve a lot of wacom problems out there, not only this.

[Bug 111463] Clicking on media file (WAV) causes crash.

2007-05-01 Thread SwarthmoreDB
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox
“Clicking on media file (WAV) causes crash.”
What other information should I include for this bug?

I basically clicked on a link that had a WAV file, and then Fx crashed
on me. I am including a problem report of the crash.

I am using Edgy, and Firefox is v. 2.0.0.3 (Ubuntu-edgy).

[Bug 111462] Re: X crashes after gdm login with new Intel driver

2007-05-01 Thread Enola Gay
How can I create a back trace of the X crash in Ubuntu Feisty?
I got a Debian How To http://wiki.debian.org/XStrikeForce/XserverDebugging but
it seems that it doesn't work in Feisty since there are no xorg dbg packages
anymore or at least they are in a separate repository.

Thank you for reporting this bug

What was the link that you clicked?
can you reproduce this problem?
If so does this happen every time you click a link toward a WAV file or just
this particular file?

[Bug 111463] Re: Clicking on media file (WAV) causes crash.

2007-05-01 Thread Hilario J. Montoliu \(hjmf\)
Thank you SwarthmoreDB for submitting this report.

Could you please try to obtain a backtrace by following the instructions on
[1], or upload the crash report that probably was generated during the crash
and that should be located at /var/crash/ to [2].

Please indicate which extensions/plugins do you have enabled; and if this crash
is reproducible describe the steps that lead to it (it is very important for us
to have a test case for each crash).

This will greatly aid us in tracking down your problem.

Thanks in advance.

H. Montoliu

[Bug 111460] acpi misreports temperature, shuts down laptop

2007-05-01 Thread Colin Cooper
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: acpi

Feisty 7.0.4: Laptop shut itself down.
After reboot, I found this in kern.log:

May  1 11:25:46 colin-laptop kernel: [ 8038.532153] ACPI: Critical trip point
May  1 11:25:46 colin-laptop kernel: [ 8038.532158] Critical temperature
reached (1154 C), shutting down.

I don't think this is a duplicate since the other related acpi bugs (#94862
#22336) happen as startup or show "reasonable" temperatures.
... and I think I'd have noticed if it actually passed 1000 deg C.

I suspect that somewhere the temp value is getting corrupted.

I haven't seen this before on this laptop - I've been running
dapper/edgy/feisty on it for about 9 months.

[Bug 111459] cannot drag and drop filenames include with '&' sign

2007-05-01 Thread s.e.tan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntu-desktop

Was using ubuntu dapper as server, gnome as desktop.

When trying to drag and drop a group of files into diff folder, half way
exited.

Slowly check and I found out the it was caused by the filename with '&'
sign inside, e.g. 'Sales & Purchase.odt', and things like that!

Understanding that since '&' is for background process, why should it
crashed if all selected filenames already quoted (presume)?
