[Bug 112304] desktop effects jam planet penguin racer

2007-05-04 Thread bobbytherookie
Public bug reported:

if desktop effects are enabled (both the cube and wobbling), then when
you play planet penguin racer the first time goes well (practice race)
but when pressing Race! for a second practice race the screen returns to
desktop, but with the same resolution as in the game, which is horribly
crappy, and you don't see all of the desktop and mouse doesn't work. and
nothing helps except pressing computer's power button as it pops up the
query if i want to restart or shut down. then i can do those.

and after this happened 2 times, the CUBE-effect hasn't worked at all
even when it's checked. the wobbling works, though.

BEFORE ALL THIS i tried to use the ATI restricted drivers (because my
desktop FX didn't work at first after the upgrade to 7.04, and i thought
it would help) but it caused the minimize-maximize-title-bar to
disappear from all the windows. then i disabled the ATI driver and then
the desktop FX worked and title bar came back.

[Bug 63551] Re: X.org doesn't detect widescreen resolution

2007-05-04 Thread michele
I have Ubuntu Feisty 7.04, nvidia chipset and a Dell 2007WFP 20 inch widescreen
monitor.
I was able to get the 1680 x 1050 pixels resolution without manual editing as
follows:
1. install package nvidia-glx-new
2. enable the driver: sudo nvidia-glx-config enable
3. generate new xorg.conf: sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
Apparently, the problem is that the new driver is not officially supported by
ubuntu.

Do you have any transparent PNG as background ? (this is, PNG with an alpha

Does this still happen if you convert all your backgrounds to JPEG ? I
speculate you won't encounter your problem any more.

[Bug 112310] Setting pen button to double click doesn't work

2007-05-04 Thread Harm Hilvers
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: wacom-tools

I have a Wacom Volito 2 and am using Ubuntu 7.04. In both 6.06 en 6.10 I
was able to set the second button of my Wacom pen to doubleclick using
the following code in xorg.conf:

OptionButton217

However, this code doesn't work anymore in Ubuntu 7.04. Using 'xsetwacom
list param I found out that I had to use the following code in the
console to set my stylus to doubleclick:

xsetwacom stylus Button2 dblclick 1

But that doens't work... also the following codes don't work:

xsetwacom stylus Button2 dblclick 0
xsetwacom stylus Button2 dblclick 1
xsetwacom stylus Button2 dblclick 2
xsetwacom stylus Button2 2
xsetwacom stylus Button2 17

I hope this can be fixed, since a single button for doubleclicking is
way easier than tapping twice or tapping once and using the return
button.

[Bug 112313] xmms-liveice causes a segmentation fault if the playlist is emptied while playing

2007-05-04 Thread TSeeker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xmms-liveice

When XMMS is playing a song with the xmms-liveice plug-in enabled,
clearing the playlist causes a segmentation fault. In some cases,
clearing the playlist a short time after playing has been disabled also
causes a segmentation fault.

The reason for this crash is located in the check_song_title function,
which uses xmms_remote_get_playlist_title() to get the title of the song
being played. When the playlist is emptied, this function returns NULL
and this situation is not being handled properly.

I will attach a patch that fixes this problem shortly.

[Bug 65609] Re: installLocation has no properties error in nsExtensionManager.js during install/update of extensions

2007-05-04 Thread dsp76
Hi Tyee,
I don't agree with the statement that its a tolerable trade-off... maybe until
the bug is fixed ;-)
Of course any previously disabled extensions were re-enabled--a tolerable
trade-off!

It's happening everytime I use Firefox with the same profile under
Windows between my Linux sessions. Both RFD files differ from each other
(before Windows access and after). So something seems to be broken with
the interpretation of the rdf file... Windows and Linux have differences
in handling this file.

2007-05-04 Thread NabLa
Thanks, Luka :)

By no means I'm an expert, but I am unsure about it being a kernel problem,
after all the powersave daemon does change my screen brightness when I plug
and unplug (I know is not guidance because works just the same on a console
session with no X loaded).

Is there any debug information I can produce to help clarify the issue? I
have looked around but couldn't find a hal log file under /var/log or
anything, and syslog/daemonlog don't tell me anything either.

[Bug 112316] Removing gaim causes nautilus-sendto removal

2007-05-04 Thread pippolino
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gaim

I was trying to uninstall gaim to try out the new pidgin beta, but apt forces
me to remove nautilus-sendto.
Removing it i loose the sendto functionality even with gnome-bluetooth and
evolution. I don't think this is a correct behavior.
Re-installing just nautilus sendto forces me again to reinstall even gaim..
I think gaim needs sendto as an optional dependency as gnome-bluetooth and
evolution do. So why that difference in behaviour?
Why removing gnome-bluetooth doesn't try to remove sendto as gaim does?

[Bug 91250] Re: [edgy-backports] Error in libgphoto2 udev rules

2007-05-04 Thread HarmonicaGoldfish
All through Edgy I did not get the pop-up for importing the photos, and
this continued with my upgrade to Fesity.

Phogy, on the ubuntu forums suggested this:

rm -rf ~/.gconf/desktop/gnome/volume_manager

I did it, restarted, and it now works like a charm.

[Bug 109643] Re: [nvidia-glx] System frequently locks up with white screen with black lines when using nvidia binary driver with CPU speed scaling/Cool 'n Quiet

2007-05-04 Thread piechan
I had the same problem. Ubuntu 7.04 crashed very frequently – several
times per hour(!). If you see the error message 'MP-BIOS Bug 8254 times
not connected to IO-APIC' at boot up you probably need to activate the
noapic option in /boot/grub/menu.lst as described in
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=430674highlight=8254 . In my
case at least it resolved the problem. By the way: My Laptop is equiped
with a ATI graphics card (ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 M10).

[Bug 112323] NFS mounted .directories don't work

2007-05-04 Thread EV
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.20-15-generic

Upgraded to Feisty and kernel 2.6.20-15-generic. Encountered a strange
bug for NFS mounts: directories starting with a dot do not work.
Example:

slurm ~ 1 % ls -la .emerald
ls: .emerald: Not a directory
slurm ~ 2 % ls -lad .emerald
drwxr-xr-x 5 root shadow 8192 May 3 15:58 .emerald
slurm ~ 3 % stat .emerald
  File: `.emerald'
  Size: 8192Blocks: 16 IO Block: 65536 directory
Device: 15h/21d Inode: 595313 Links: 5
Access: (0755/drwxr-xr-x) Uid: (0/root) Gid: ( 42/ shadow)
Access: 2007-05-04 13:50:05.436667000 +0300
Modify: 2007-05-03 15:58:32.480816000 +0300
Change: 2007-05-03 15:58:32.480816000 +0300
slurm ~ 4 % cd .emerald
cd: not a directory: .emerald

The mount works fine using kernel 2.6.17-10 (but it has problems with
Nvidia drivers) and other OSs. I'm sure some one else should have
spotted this problem, but I can't figure out what the problem could be
in my case.

[Bug 112325] [needs-packaging] overgod - an asteroids-style space shoot-'em-up

2007-05-04 Thread Micah Cowan
Public bug reported:

For too long has humanity been ruled by cruel and disputatious gods! Fly
through the various layers of the Celestial Oversphere to unseat those
who control the universe.

Basically, you control a little vehicle in the middle of the screen and
fly around and shoot things - a bit like asteroids, but the asteroids
move independently and shoot back. You can also upgrade your vehicle in
various ways.

Licensed under the GPL.

[Bug 106531] Re: [Feisty] OpenOffice.org can't read UTF-8 filenames

2007-05-04 Thread Erdal Ronahi
I have the problem again, this time in Kubuntu Feisty, when reading from
an USB flash disk (FAT). Konqeror shows all the files, but if an ä is
in the filepath, they cannot be opened with OpenOffice.org.

This does not happen in GNOME.

[Bug 102084] Re: guidance-power-manager doesn't detect changes during hibernation

2007-05-04 Thread Luka Renko
Diff does not help. We need full lshal after resume or at least output
of this:

  lshal | grep ac_adapter

This will tell us what HAL thinks about ac_adapter state. Otherwise this
sounds like bug 63123.

[Bug 102294] Re: cannot change screen brightness on Sony VAIO VGN-FS285M

2007-05-04 Thread Luka Renko
Good to know powersave daemon works. Then it is probably missing/buggy
implementation in HAL. powersave daemon uses own methods to control
PM/brightness, therefore it can work, while HAL/Guidance-Power-Manager
/GNOME-Power-Manager do not as they depend on proper implementation in
HAL.

You may want to search in HAL mailing lists if this was already
addressed recently (0.5.9 was just released, while feisty uses 0.5.8). I
do not know about log files...

[Bug 45696] Beagle was somehow interfering with Network Manager

2007-05-04 Thread philly
I was having this same problem with Edgy where after 2 or 3
suspend/resume cycles Network Manager would not recognize my network
interfaces (using a notebook with built-in intel wireless). I was also
using Beagle for my desktop search. I don't know why, but when I killed
the beagled process my problems with Network Manager disappeared. Every
suspend/resume cycle worked flawlessly, with Network Manager
reconnecting on every single resume. Not wanting to lose my desktop
search, I removed Beagle and replaced it with Tracker, which also
integrates with the Deskbar Applet. I had no more problems with Network
Manager not resuming after that.

For whatever that is worth, there it is. I can't explain why it worked,
but it did.
