[Bug 90376] Re: Firefox https broken in some cases

2007-05-11 Thread JDS
FWIW, My wife was having the same problem. I updated Firefox and it is
now fixed.

Another aspect of the problem was that the "saved passwords" list
(Edit->Preferences->Privacy->Passwords) was *BLANK*! But when I updated
the browser, the saved passwords list was restored.

Notes:

Updated browser details:
Broken: 1.5.dfsg+1.5.0.10-0ubuntu0.6.06.2
Fixed: 1.5.dfsg+1.5.0.11-0ubuntu0.6.06.1 (I think the minor version stuff is
right, but the ".11" part is definitely right)

[Bug 66379] Re: evince does not enable print

2007-05-11 Thread Sébastien Sablé
I have the same problem (can't print in evince - printing works fine
everywhere else). Printing in evince used to work fine in ubuntu Dapper.
It stopped working when upgrading to Edgy. I hoped Feisty would solve
the bug, but it is still there.

evince will show this message when selecting the printer in the print
dialog:

** (evince:24793): WARNING **: Error result: HTTP Error in GET Success

my /etc/hosts file is really basic:

$ cat /etc/hosts
127.0.0.1 localhost incubus

fe00::0 ip6-localnet
ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix

[Bug 114067] Kernel 2.6.22-1-xen does not boot as Dom0

2007-05-11 Thread Fastguy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.22-1-xen

Hi,

Just installed 2.6.22-1-xen kernel. There are two problems for this package:
1) The description on page
http://packages.ubuntulinux.org/gutsy/base/linux-image-2.6.22-1-xen mentiones
that this package shall be installed by using linux-xen metapackage, which
doesn't exist in Gutsy.
2) The package, even though installed with all other necessary tools (with
ubuntu-xen-desktop metapackage), does not boot as Dom0, but successfully boots
as DomU or normal kernel. It gives the error: "ELF start or entries are out of
bounds". Hipervisor - Kernel mismatch? Or the comment about booting as Dom0 is
wrong? (I've never seen any kernel above 2.6.20 which is able to boot as Dom0).

Regards,

Emre

[Bug 109418] Re: After Feisty upgrade: some drives show up twice in nautilus, once unmounted and once mounted

2007-05-11 Thread satkata
Hi,

this seems similar, if not the same, to this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/47830

I've already posted there, so I'm just mentioning here.

It is the root partition, that is showing up twice on my Feisty.
There wasn't such thing on Edgy before the upgrade.

I hope somebody finds a solution for it.
It's not really a problem, but is annoying.

When the CPU is going crazy, that can happen. This bug is about the
System Monitor reporting inaccurate CPU usage for itself in a normal
scenario.

[Bug 114030] Re: merge remctl-2.7 from debian unstable

2007-05-11 Thread Michael Bienia
Sync request ACKed.

The other new entries from the Debian changelog:

remctl (2.7-1) unstable; urgency=low

   * New upstream release.
 - remctld considers a command complete when it exits rather than
waiting for standard output and error to be closed.
 - Properly canonicalize the remote host in the command-line client.
 - Fix protocol errors with commands larger than the token size.
 - Fix memory and file descriptor leaks in remctld.

 -- Russ Allbery <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sun, 25 Mar 2007 17:17:00 -0700

remctl (2.6-2) unstable; urgency=low

   * libremctl-dev should depend on libremctl1.

 -- Russ Allbery <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Thu, 8 Mar 2007 20:10:16 -0800

remctl (2.6-1) unstable; urgency=high

   * Urgency high for security fix.
   * New upstream release.
 - Treat non-existant ACLs as authorization failure, not success.

 -- Russ Allbery <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sat, 3 Feb 2007 22:55:04 -0800

remctl (2.5-1) unstable; urgency=low

   * New upstream release.
 - The remctl client library now supports arbitrarily large commands
transparently, at the cost of some memory consumption on the client
   and server.
 - Commands are run with stdin open to /dev/null rather than closed.
 - Clean up memory leaks and more strictly check command input.
 - Clean up handling of token size limits.
   * Update copyright statement and dates.

 -- Russ Allbery <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sat, 3 Feb 2007 21:02:25 -0800

remctl (2.4-1) unstable; urgency=low

   * New upstream release.
 - IPv6 support.
 - Correctly check for network errors when sending tokens.
 - Print a newline after error messages in the command-line client.
 - Return better error messages for too many arguments.

 -- Russ Allbery <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Wed, 17 Jan 2007 11:55:32 -0800

remctl (2.3-1) unstable; urgency=low

   * New upstream release.
 - Increase the maximum number of arguments the server will accept for
   a command to 4096 from 64.
 - Add the -S flag to remctld for testing.
 - Document the exit status of remctl.
   * Relink remctl after building to eliminte the unneceesary dependencies
 on the Kerberos libraries.

[Bug 47830] Re: The "Computer" location shows the root drive twice

2007-05-11 Thread satkata
Hi, I have the same problem in Feisty.

Nautilus shows my root partition twice: 1. as "/" and 2. as "6.3 GB
Volume".

This appears both under "Computer" and under "Places" on the side-bar.

When I click on the "6.3 Volume" nothing happens. Right click shows me,
that I can mount the partition, but after selecting it nothing happens.
It's already being mounted, so no wonder here.

I read on some archlinux forum, that this is because there's no
/dev/root link pointing to the root device before hal starts up. There
is no such link even after that. According to the forum, the solution
should be creating that link before hal starts.

I can not confirm this though, because I am not an expert and I don't
want to screw my system in some way.

I wrote this, just because I am thinking, it could be some help for
somebody, who knows better.:)

If you need some more information, let me know...

remctl (2.7-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * remctl-server now depends on update-inetd directly and recommends
openbsd-inetd | inet-superserver, since it will run without inetd but
calls update-inetd in its postinst.
  * Remove the remctl transitional package now that etch is released.
  * Support reconfigure in the remctl-server postinst.
  * Don't fail on unknown arguments to maintainer scripts.
  * Add build-arch and build-indep targets, just in case.
  * Update debhelper compatibility level to V5.

[Bug 93847] Re: Excessive CPU usage by Gnome System Monitor

2007-05-11 Thread mwales
I encountered an issue with gnome-system-monitor that caused the cpu
usage to goto 100%.

I had a bad behaving task that created about 10,000 zombie tasks. If I
clicked on the system monitor applet, when it tried to launch gnome-
system-monitor I never saw the GUI and the CPU spiked to 100%. I killed
the process that created the zombies, and gnome-system-monitor started
behaving normally for me.

If it's of any interest, Firefox created the zombies. I think an ill-
behaving extension was trying to update itself and created them.

[Bug 1] Re: Microsoft has a majority market share

2007-05-11 Thread Porfirio
Hi i am from Portugal!
I use Windows daily, and you want to know why i dont use Linux ( i say linux
not Ubuntu because this bug applyes to the Linux community not only Ubuntu ) ?

Well first because my modem is very hard to get it to work ( the so know
SpeedTouch 330 gray, worse my isp uses PPPoE/Bridging ), you have to do some
strange stuff to get it working.
But then i have a WinTV usb FM card, and its hard as hell to get it to work
with Radio and TV ( i haven't been able to do it yet )

In windows i just have to install the drivers and reboot

But the worse problem i face is:
I own a small shop and i have a Software for Point of Sale, the program is 10
years old ( although my pc is 3 years old... ) , its made in Visual Basic ( 5 i
suppose... ), it uses a USB drive as a protection key ( this company is harder
than M$ lol ), the program is buggy and it costed as much as 500€ ( it have to
be signed by the government or something ) its made by Portuguese company.

So what have i thinked, lets try to run it over Wine, but it doesn't
shown up i just see VB runtime errors etc, and i cant submit a bug cause
no one can get the program for free or something

But ok i could get it to work on windows VMWare, but this is damn
important stuff and i get scared to loose my precious Data

On my daily work i only use, apart from the POS soft, open source programs like
Gimp, Inkscape, scribus, Firefox, Thunderbird, Gaim ( theres no Kopete for
windows :( ) etc...
So switching to Linux would be easy!

About Gaming... I dont game that mutch i am more a software developer (
the IDE's i use are cross plataform too ), but still theres nice cross
plataform games that i run on my windows like xmoto, action cube,
alienarena etc...

Also i was almost forget to mention that my GFX card is a Radeon 9200,
wish dont have more suport for proprietary drivers, although the open
source one works ok ( i wish i could get better resolution... )

I just got today my Kubuntu shipit cd ( i also got Ubuntu one some days
ago ) and i put some stickers of Ubuntu that came in package on my pc
and shop

So my road to Linux is going slowly, and i only have this pc here on my Shop (
its a small Shop and i have free time )
Also i wish that KDE was more suported by Ubuntu, When Ubuntu 7.04 went off,
big annoucements ad site changes were made, for kubuntu just posted a
annoucement, also well Kubuntu is a KDE operative system but why it cant come
with GTK app's
Wheres Firefox, Thunderbird installed by default?
Ubuntu have some nice programs to configure system, put 3D desktop etc, why
cant they be shiped with Kubuntu too?
So my shoice is, install ubuntu and do sudo apt-get install kde-core

About buying a pc on shop with ubuntu:
It wont happen here, not only ppl don't want Linux as sellers dont want to sell
Once i got a problem on my shop program and i needed to get assistense from teh
sellers, they didn't liked to see that i had Linux installed( not ubuntu, a
Portuguese distro called CaixaMagica )
This bug is far from being closed :(

[Bug 108098] Re: 60Hz refresh frequency only on live cd

2007-05-11 Thread Johan Walles
Worked around update frequency troubles by modding my xorg.conf, this
isn't blocking my upgrade any more. Thanks!

Some questions remain though that you may want to look into:
* Removing the HorizSync and VertRefresh lines from the generated xorg.conf and
letting Xorg autodetect those values resolved the update frequency problem for
me.

* I had to add "1600x1200" to the Display subsections of Section
"Screen" to get 1600x1200.

[Bug 114053] snd_hda_intel (alc883 chipset) does not perform jack sense

2007-05-11 Thread Michael Trausch
Public bug reported:

Using the NVIDIA chipset MCP51:

00:10.1 Audio device: nVidia Corporation MCP51 High Definition Audio
(rev a2)

Which seems to use the Intel driver for sound:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/usr/src/linux$ lsmod|grep snd
snd_hda_intel 305888 4
snd_pcm_oss50048 0
snd_mixer_oss 19712 1 snd_pcm_oss
snd_pcm94600 3 snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm_oss
snd_seq_oss38464 0
snd_seq_midi_event 9344 1 snd_seq_oss
snd_seq63264 4 snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi_event
snd_timer 27464 3 snd_pcm,snd_seq
snd_seq_device 9876 2 snd_seq_oss,snd_seq
snd71464 14
snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_pcm,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq,snd_timer,snd_seq_device
soundcore 10400 1 snd
snd_page_alloc 11984 2 snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm

On an HP Pavilion Slimline s7700n computer, the sound driver does not
sense when I plug in headphones to the jack in the front. The hardware
has the capability of sensing when a jack is plugged in/unplugged to the
headphone jack, as Windows mutes the rear audio output when a headphone
is plugged in. The current setup in Feisty has a switch to disable the
headphone jack, but nothing to monitor that jack for the headphone being
plugged in to mute the main audio output. I am wondering if it is
because it is detecting the ALC883 as an ALC888, which it is not.

This problem exists both in the Feisty ALSA driver, and the driver that
is presently (as of yesterday) in release candidate status from the ALSA
people.

Directions on https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DebuggingSoundProblems
have been followed, and attachments are coming shortly.

I've started to see something similar on my T42 as well. Suspending and
resuming to/from RAM fixes it.

I'll see if that fixes it... it's odd, cause that's what seems to cause the
issue as well.

[Bug 114051] no way to disable same notification messages, no unified system for managing notifications

2007-05-11 Thread lmierzej
Public bug reported:

Everyone know that notification messages can be very helpful,
especially for new Ubuntu users, but there are many other Ubuntu users
that find notification messages somehow annoying.

Some notifications you can disable in program preferences (like in
rhythmbox), some in gconf-editor (like notify_fully_charged), but
unfortunately there are also many notifications that can't be disabled
at all :-( (like the one in NetworkManager that appears when you
successfully connect to wireless network).

I guess that there is some notification system in gnome (also I guess
that there is a little 'notification framework' which applications cat
use)... anyway it would be really great if there was a way to disable
all notifications at once.

And it would be outstanding if there was some kind of 'notification
manager' which would allow user to disable/enable every single
notification message in one place...

To sum up, user should be allowed to disable any notification message he
wishes to, but there are many notification messages in Ubuntu that can't
be disabled at all...
