[Bug 113365] Re: New version (3.02) available

2007-05-17 Thread Andy Price
Here's an improved debdiff. I accidentally listed the changes from
ubuntu -> ubuntu instead of debian -> ubuntu in the debian/changelog of
the last one. This also fixes the removals of random newlines in
debian/changelog that snuck in somewhere during the merge.

[Bug 109027] Re: Mouse, Keyboard disabled in Virtual PC

2007-05-17 Thread Jouni K Seppänen
I have a problem that seems to be related, though I'm not using Virtual
PC. In Ubuntu 7.04 my PS/2 keyboard stopped working, although it had
worked in 6.10. I started tweaking my BIOS settings, and noticed that I
had disabled USB 2.0 support; I think this was as a workaround to some
earlier problem, but don't remember the specifics. Enabling USB 2.0
fixes the keyboard problem. The computer is a Shuttle XPC SK41G.

I am attaching the output of lspci -vv when USB 2.0 is disabled in the
BIOS; the following diff shows how the output changes when USB 2.0 is
enabled.

[Bug 112534] KMix does not respond to XF86AudioRaiseVolume

2007-05-17 Thread Thomas Zander
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

In Feisty I expected that pressing the volume-up/down buttons on my laptop
would show this kmix window with only a slider and alter the volume.
But kmix is not even started! (also when I start it, nothing happens)

xev shows the signal names just fine, so that is not the issue.

This is the source of ALL your problems!

This fmtutils file overrides the one created from the system files.

You should NOT NOT NOT use texconfig for defining formats.

Please read
/usr/share/doc/tex-common/TeX-on-Debian
(in various formats). You should edit the files in
/etc/texmf/fmt.d/

See also my talk at the EuroBachoTeX 2007:

[Bug 89487] Re: beagle-build-index uses 100% of cpu when started from cron.daily

2007-05-17 Thread dBera
I figured out the problem. The docbook parser is failing to parse those
files, thus those files are getting filtered again on re-indexing. It
really cannot be avoided, since users can always install updated filters
before re-running build-index.

The bad thing is that the docbook filter decides success or failure only
at the end of the parsing the whole file. Someone needs to look at the
docbook filter, but other than that everything else is working ok.

[Bug 32067] Re: the security parameter must be set to share, not user, in smb.conf

2007-05-17 Thread Max
The obvious, simple solution is to automatically add the user via
smbpasswd -a to duplicate the unix user name. The problem lies in the
password. Since it is hashed, the system can't just reverse the hash,
get the password, and add it to the samba user database.

A complete solution might be found with the pam_smbpass module, which keeps the
samba password database in sync with /etc/passwd

[Bug 82412] Re: texlive-base-bin fails to install due to fmtutil-sys error

2007-05-17 Thread Kamil Páral
>*Before* you installed texlive? Anyway, it could also be that this is an
old bug of tex-common.

Yes, I had tetex installed before texlive. I removed it completely
(=purged) (but I think I hadn't removed tex-common, just tetex*) and
tried to install texlive, and that's where my trouble started.

> Hmm, you don't remember which ones?
this one:
a7a951909ec4db73211080d555707be9 /etc/texmf/web2c/fmtutil.cnf
Now I understand it better, I can tell you that the md5 hash won't be correct,
because i used texconfig to uncomment lines starting with csplain, cslatex,
pdfcsplain and pdfcslatex (because I am Czech and it was in a guide I found).
The whole problem was (in my laic view) in some redundant files in /etc/texmf,
which caused problems after that. But i used only apt-get to install and
remove, no manual interaction.

So as far as I can remember, I think the sequence was like this:
1. on fresh system (no tex before) I installed tetex packages (not sure exactly
which)
2. "sudo texconfig", uncomment 'cs' commands, rehash, exit
3. purged tetex packages
4. install texlive -> problem

My system is originally Ubuntu 6.06 upgraded to 6.10 upgraded to 7.04,
so it may be possible that some problem was caused by upgrades. But I've
never installed any tex up till now.

from upstream is simply perfect for any other purpose,
if you use it to connect via modem it doesn't inform
dbus that the state is "connected"

So I think that an updated version of nm for feisty
is really necessary...

To refer back to Morgan's post, I use Kubuntu Feisty and it doesn't power

Edgy, the only difference with these two was that there was a short click at

*Before* you installed texlive? Anyway, it could also be that this is an
old bug of tex-common.

You installed tetex, then removed it, or purged it (ie left the
conffiles or removed everything)? I am trying to reproduce this bug in
one of my chroots.

Neither do I, I am just the Debian developer, not Ubuntu responsible.

[Bug 115312] Cannot Install Feisty: No HDD detected

2007-05-17 Thread Alperen Yusuf Aybar
Public bug reported:

I cannot install Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn.

I've tried both Live CD & Alternate CD, but always get a 'No HDD
Detected' error.

I'm trying to install it on a desktop computer with these specs:

Gigabyte 965P-S3 (JMicron SATA Controller with ACPI enabled)
Western Digital 320GB SATAII HDD

[Bug 113560] Changing encoding on a sftp window makes konqueror freeze

2007-05-17 Thread Risto H. Kurppa
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Kubuntu Feisty & Konqueror with sftp window open

When I go to 'tools' - 'encoding' - and select something there (for
example iso-8859-something or utf-8), konqueror freezes. White window
with borders, no icons. No error messages on command line. (Sorry if the
menu names are wrong, I use finnish translation)

Kill the window, start a new one and the encoding has been changed.

Can anyone confirm this?

[Bug 111606] Re: Totem does (mostly) not display video output on external monitor

2007-05-17 Thread LCID Fire
I use Feisty + totem-xine - but I already have this problem since Edgy (I
thought it was working in Dapper - but I'm not sure anymore). Strange thing is
- I also have a Omnibook with a i830 chipset - and it's the same behaviour
there - which makes me kind of suspect that it is more xorg than driver related.
Also when I use mplayer with opengl output it works fine.

[Bug 115175] Re: [apport] gs-esp crashed with SIGSEGV in jbig2_image_get_pixel()

2007-05-17 Thread Till Kamppeter
The packages I mentioned in my last posting are for gutsy. If you are on
Feisty or earlier, you can either try to use distribution-independent
packages or compile from upstream source (both described on
http://www.openprinting.org/download/printing/esp-gpl-ghostscript-
merge/README) or rebuild the Ubuntu packages.

To rebuild the Ubuntu packages download the files from

http://www.openprinting.org/download/printing/esp-gpl-ghostscript-merge/

into the same directory. Then do

sudo apt-get install build-essential
sudo apt-get build-dep gs-esp gs-gpl
dpkg-source -x gs-gpl_8.60.dfsg.1-0ubuntu1.dsc
cd gs-gpl-8.60.dfsg.1
dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot
cd ..
sudo dpkg -i *gs-esp*.deb *gs-gpl*.deb

Answer every question which appears with "y", so that all needed packages get
installed.

[Bug 82412] Re: texlive-base-bin fails to install due to fmtutil-sys error

2007-05-17 Thread Kamil Páral
$ dpkg -S /etc/texmf/fmt.d/01tetex.cnf
dpkg: /etc/texmf/fmt.d/01tetex.cnf not found.

I had tetex* packages installed before, but I removed them completely
(including config files). Can it be the source of problem?

After removing 01tetex.cnf file and running update-fmtutil, the texlive-
base-bin still can't be reconfigured nor installed again. I completely
removed all texlive-* and tex-common packages and there were still some
files in /etc/texmf, and dpkg -S told me it couldn't find their package.
I had to completely remove the /etc/texmf dir, and only after that the
installation of texlive worked.

I also tried to install texlive on a fresh new Ubuntu 7.04 in virtual
machine and it went smoothly.

So, thank you very much for solving my problem. There is certainly some
error in packaging system or something, because I didn't do any custom
changes or anything. I just installed and removed tetex, and texlive
couldn't be installed anymore. I don't know where and how report it and
if it should be reported, but my texlive now works. Thanks.

I don't how to change status of this bug, please do something with it.

[Bug 115306] [needs-packaging] GLFW - A framework for basic OpenGL tasks

2007-05-17 Thread Lukas Fittl
Public bug reported:

GLFW is a free, Open Source, portable framework for OpenGL application
development. In short, it is a single library providing a powerful,
portable API for otherwise operating system specific tasks such as
opening an OpenGL window, and reading keyboard, time, mouse and joystick
input.

[Bug 64064] Re: would be nice to add ~/bin to the default PATH

2007-05-17 Thread EvanCarroll
Ok so everyone is for doing this pam, I found a (slightly) better place
to do this than gdm anyway. Someone should make note if this is done in
pam to remove the related lines in ~/.bash_profile too. I applied a
patch instead of to gdm, too: /etc/X11/Xsession.d/99x11-common_start

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/etc/X11/Xsession.d$ diff 99x11-common_start
99x11-common_start2 -c1
*** 99x11-common_start 2007-05-17 13:58:52.0 -0500
--- 99x11-common_start2 2007-05-17 13:59:05.0 -0500
***
*** 4,5
--- 4,10

+ # set PATH so it includes user's private bin if it exists
+ if [ -d ~/bin ] ; then
+ PATH=~/bin:"${PATH}"
+ fi
+
  exec $STARTUP

I chose to patch this into /etc/X11/Xsession.d/99x11-common_start
because that way it would work despite what graphical login shell was
used.

This works perfectly, and can be used as a fix until someone hacks a
patch into pam.

same problem with feisty: ubiquity selects "german" keyboardlayout as default -
I think "gearman - no deadkeys" would be better
(because many users not know about deadkeys, a labeling like "german"
and "german with deadkeys'" would be better)

Vincent,

I found a Ubuntu link to the Herd3 iso, but it wasn't working. Does
anyone know if the Herd3 is stil being made available? If not, I guess
that that may be another reason to start from Edgy.

[Bug 84591] Re: feisty 20070210/herd5 persistent mode doesn't work

2007-05-17 Thread Mike
That sounds good, Fisselfink. I actually may not be able to get this
going until some time next week. My wife has been giving me some dirty
looks for the time I have spent. But, there are a couple things I still
want to check out.

I suppose it probably makes sense to make all of the files available in
the form of an iso, just like a ubuntu distribution (unless someone has
other thoughts), and probably makes sense to make it available without
my other "customizations" (e.g. not add ntfs-3g, bootchart, etc.). That
way, it is a "base" image, similar to the ubuntu distrib.

Also, I am experiencing a problem installing the Java JRE and plugin.
It does not look like it is a problem unique to this hybrid. But
rather, appears to be a problem that others have experienced (e.g. I
think it is failing to configure Java, saying it cannot locate libjli.so
and libjava.so - or something to that effect - I don't have the error
messages in front of me now). Although I believe Java is not in the
base distribution, it would be nice if I could resolve that before
making this available. But I don't think I am going to have time to
figure it out. I expect it is probably an issue that can be fixed by
making changes in persistent mode, but again I haven't worked it out.

I guess, people should assume there may be issues and test it out and
provide feedback. It may need more fine tuning. I am also am wondering
whether it would make more sense to start with Edgy and upgrade from
that (so that the Edgy version of the relevant files are pinned, rather
than the Herd3 versions). Again, I may not have a chance to figure that
out soon. If anyone wants a copy of this earlier than next week, I
don't mind making it available in exactly the form I have it now, as
long as everyone recognizes that it may still be a little "rough."
