[Bug 115901] Need to manually "sound codec" option

2007-05-20 Thread Kenan Ince
Public bug reported:

When I first installed Ubuntu (~three weeks ago), the main (one of two)
problem I had was that there was no sound output. I checked the "Volume
Control" setting and got "no volume control GStreamer plugins or devices
found." I searched around and couldn't find a fix until I pressed F1 at
startup to enter the system settings of my HP Pavilion XL866. There I
noted that an option marked "sound codec" was disabled; I enabled it and
got sound again.

Now the problem is that my sound works on approximately one out of every
four boots. On the other one boot, the "sound codec" option seems to
revert to the "disabled" settings, since when I restart and check it
it's disabled again.

[Bug 115898] lost support for sm3840 family scanners

2007-05-20 Thread Radomir Dopieralski
Public bug reported:

I own a Mustek ScanMaster 3830 scanner. It worked fine, out-of-the-box,
with both Dapper and Edgy. However, it stopped working in Feisty. It
just returns following message:

scanimage: open of device sm3840:libusb:001:004 failed: Access to
resource has been denied

Further investigation revealed, that this family of scanners is not
supported by the Sane project. Instead, someone reverse-engineered a
backend and prepared a patch for sane-backends-1.0.15. This is the
version found in Dapper and Edgy and it works great.

However, Feisty uses sane-backends-1.0.18. The apropriate library file,
/usr/lib/sane/libsane-sm3840.so.1-1.0.18 is present, but it fails to do
its work. After some experimenting, I just downloaded the 1.0.15 version
of sane-backends, applied apropriate patch and compiled it. Then I just
copied libsane-sm3840.so.1-1.0.15 and changed the symbolic links in
/usr/lib/sane to point to it. It worked like a charm and my scanner is
functional again.

My guess is that the library present in sane-backends-1.0.18 is either
just a dummy placeholder, or contains a bug that prevents it from doing
its job.

disappears.

As mentioned above I am a bit concerned how many other users may hit

speak

I find that very puzzling. Espeak certainly doesn't directly depend on
libkeyutils-dev, as shown in the .dsc file. My pbuilder cache also
doesn't show this package as being pulled in for the build.

I'll look at the logs, but have no idea why this is happening.

Is it possible that python2.4-clearsilver is not a package that was ever in the
Ubuntu repositories (and perhaps the same for python2.4-pythoncard)? I don't
remember, myself, whether I may have picked up that package from some third
party, such as the Trac homepage (?). There seems to be no "bugs page" for
either of those packages; both of these links give you an "OOPS":
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python2.4-pythoncard
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python2.4-clearsilver
Wouldn't those bug pages exist even if those packages do not exist in Feisty,
but existed in previous releases?

user.
I will filp the off switch in /etc/evms.conf as suggested and see whether this
is the problem for sure...

[Bug 115553] Re: [Merge]Merge democracyplayer 0.9.5.3-1 from Debain unstable

2007-05-20 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Remaining Ubuntu changes:
  * debian/control
 + python -> python2.5-dev, libxul-dev -> firefox-dev
 + Updated maintainer field
  * Use python2.5 everywhere
  * Use a LD_PRELOAD wrapper around democracyplayer.real
  * Update DBUS usage to avoid use of removed, non-public API

New changes:
  * debian/patches/90_fix_libboost_linkage
+ boost-python no longer ships libboost_python.so, instead it ships
libboost_python-st.so & -mt.so. Make democracyplayer link against the
libboost_python-mt lib.
  * debian/patches/70_update_dbus_usage
+ Update patch to fix the extra DBUS breakage introduced in the new
upstream version.

[Bug 115789] Re: Please upload new espeak package.

2007-05-20 Thread Steve Kowalik
This has hit dep-wait on amd64 and sparc, and will hit it for the other
three arches. The reason is because espeak Build-Depends on libkeyutils-
dev, which is provided by the keyutils source package, which is in
universe. Packages in main can't Build-Depend on packages in universe,
which the buildd enforces.

2007-05-20 Thread greenmark
This is update:

Trying to install OS on one of the IDE/ata hard drive, get a very odd
error msg. Usually after a hdd is picked, it should promt for format the
hdd and os installation start. I did delete the disk and create a new
partition still get get the same error msg.

"Windows XP Professional Setup

To Install Windows XP on the partition you selcted,
Setup must write some startup fiels to the following disk:

381555 MB Disck 0 at Id 0 on bus 0 on atapi [MBR]

However, this disk dos not contain a Windows XP-compatibale
parition.

To continue installing Windows XP, return to the partion selection
screen and create a Windows XP-compaitbnle parition on the disk aove. If
there is no free space on the disck, delete an existing patition, and
then create a new one.

To return to the partition selections screen, press ENTER."
