[Bug 107115] Re: log out or switch user results in crash

2007-06-19 Thread Bryce Harrington
I've packaged the fglrx driver, and put the debs up for testing on Gutsy
(linux-restricted-modules-2.6.22):

http://people.ubuntu.com/~bryce/Testing/

Among the changes in this newer fglrx are fixes for freezes when logging out or
switching users, and when switching to a console (e.g., ctrl-alt-F1). I don't
know if it fixes the hibernation not working issue that ravanhagen reports.
tasadar_f said he had tried 8.37.6 already and found it did not fix this issue,
so I would appreciate feedback from others if this fixes it for them.

These are the packages I installed in my tests: fglrx-control, xorg-
driver-fglrx, fglrx-kernel-source, linux-restricted-modules-common,
linux-restricted-modules-2.6.22

Also turn off Composite if you have it on (fglrx doesn't support it)
fglrxinfo and glxgears are useful to verify its working

Re: [Bug 56692] Re: ATI radeon: poor 3D performance

2007-06-19 Thread Nicolò Chieffo
In my case the performance is very bad.
I have a Mobility Radeon 9700
I cannot run any 3d games without an excessive use of the cpu. And the
performance is about 5fps
even with the new gnash (plugin for flash) when rendering a simple
animation all the cpu is used.

I thought I had borked the installation, but it's a known bug.

It's annoying to find that a useful tool has been knowingly crippled for
a year an a half because of a Debian bug. Especially when you are also
distributing EDUBUNTU ... grammar checkers are one way to help people
learn how to write.

[Bug 121220] Re: Build Dep not properly specified

2007-06-19 Thread Kjell Braden
The following commands work without problems here in gutsy and it doesn't seem
to need docbook or xorg-dev:
$ cd /tmp
$ apt-get source bochs
[...]
$ sudo apt-get build-dep bochs
[...]
$ cd bochs-2.3
$ debuild -B -us -uc
[...]

Can you please provide in which case (eg. which version of ubuntu you
are using, on what command does it request the two missing packages, did
you use the upstream package?) docbook or xorg-dev are needed?

[Bug 121225] Apple WWDC 2007 video stream fails to play

2007-06-19 Thread gobbles414
Public bug reported:

I am new to Launchpad... so forgive me if I am going about this
incorrectly.

In the i386 version of Ubuntu 7.04, I am unable to access Apple's video
stream of the WWDC 2007 keynote presentation
(http://events.apple.com.edgesuite.net/d7625zs/event/). My Firefox
version is 2.0.0.4+1-0Ubuntu1. I have replaced the default Totem plugin
with the MPlayer plugin (version 3.31+main-1Ubuntu1). I also have
w32codecs and the good/bad/ugly gstreamer0.10 packages installed. I was
able to get sound in Firefox on my first attempt playing the stream, but
no picture. All subsequent attempts to play the stream in Firefox have
resulted in total failure. The stream acts like it is loading; but then
it stops before loading any sound or picture. The stream also fails to
load in the Totem, MPlayer, and VLC media players.

This bug has actually been reported once before (Bug #119963).
Unfortunately, the bug was incorrectly attributed to an Apple server
problem. I confirm that on my home network, OS 10.4 (PPC) and Vista
Ultimate (32 bit) play the stream flawlessly in QuickTime 7.x while
Ubuntu 7.04 fails to even load the stream.

2007-06-19 Thread Chris Cheney
Ernesto,

I was unable to get OpenOffice to ask me to enable/disable macros. And
therefore it didn't crash since it didn't seem to attempt to run the
macro at all.

Are you certain that the file you included in the report has the macros
intact?

Thanks,

Yes Mark, I have this same issue. It is incredibly consistent, and what

have to let it list all the documents able to recover and from there
click cancel. Should this be a separate bug or is it the same issue?

[Bug 76593] Re: asus brightness hotkeys

I originally was getting no events for the two hotkeys. I have since updated

have disabled Nicolò's scripts and the screen brightness still changes (woo!).

because right now music sounds awful!

on previous version of ubuntu (7.04, 6.10 and 6.06) i founded a method
to make it work. and it was this one:

---
Manually tell the driver which flavor you are using

Edit the file /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base

Code:
sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base
Add the line options snd-hda-intel model=ref

Reboot

[Bug 121231] Extra line feeds on opening OOo document in Word or Abiword

2007-06-19 Thread Lesack
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

Version: Writer openoffice 2.2.0-1ubuntu3
OS: Ubuntu Feisty 32 bit i386

On selecting and pasting from gnome-terminal and xfce4-terminal and
saving as a MS Word 97/XP document, the documents will have an extra
line feed for each line when opened in Microsoft Word or AbiWord (ie,
now double spaced). Document appears normal in OO.org Writer.

This occurs whether pasting using copy/paste or select, middle-mouse
click (X copy/paste).

Copying and pasting from xterm and konsole does not produce any
problems.

This is a new bug -- this did not happen in previous versions of OO.org.

[Bug 121228] Segfault retrieving passphrase for WiFi network

2007-06-19 Thread Peter Clifton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager-gnome

After upgrading to nm-applet 0.6.5, nm-applet would segfault upon trying
to retrieve the passphrase for my network.

(Ok, not a released Ubuntu package, but pre-empting the release a tiny
bit by rolling my own from a vanilla gnome-network-monitor tarball and
the ./debian dir from the old network-manager (modified))

Crash is:

Starting program: /home/pcjc2/source/nm-applet-0.6.5/src/nm-applet --sm-disable
Failed to read a valid object file image from memory.
[Thread debugging using libthread_db enabled]
[New Thread -1214376256 (LWP 32363)]

#2 0x in ?? ()

Patch is attached which fixed the issue for me - I just had to re-enter
the passphrase afterwards, and all was ok.

It seems like gnome-keyring didn't find any matching keys (when network-manager
expected to find one for a network it already knew).
nm-applet gets passed a GNOME_KEYRING_RESULT_OK status, as there is no error
per-se (I think), but a NULL (empty) glist. It then proceeds
to use that glist without checking its length.

Reverting the patch, nm-applet doesn't crash again (presumably as it now
finds the key which the patched version successfully stored)

Quitting nm-applet, deleting the key in gnome-keyring-manager and
reloading nm-applet causes the crash to recur.

Probably ought to get pushed upstream - but I'm keen that Ubuntu gets a
heads-up on this since there have already been issues with the
network-manager-gnome binary being dropped out of network-manager.

Regards,

Peter Clifton

[Bug 121228] Re: Segfault retrieving passphrase for WiFi network

2007-06-19 Thread Peter Clifton
Funny - even with patch applied, all is not 100% normal.

After loading patched nm-applet:

the network is found
when I click on it prompts for a passphrase
NM connects to the network
The passphrase is stored in the keyring
NM disconnects the network

I then have to re-select it before the network will stay connected.
(Perhaps the disconnect is related to storing the passphrase in the
keyring?)

[Bug 117021] Re: metacity fullscreen toggle in open office

2007-06-19 Thread Chris Cheney
Are you still able to reproduce this on an up to date final release of
Ubuntu 7.04? I tried to reproduce the error and was unable to. Also I
checked .xsession-errors and there were no messages like what you pasted
from your system.

On my machine after exiting and restarting openoffice it starts up in an
unmaximized mode like normal startup.

Thanks,

Chris Cheney

[Bug 121235] home icon loads 2nd copy of existing open windows

2007-06-19 Thread dunsar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

I am using firefox v2.0.0.4. When I want to load a new tab, I either use
Ctrl-T or File/New Tab to load a new window. When I click on the home icon, FF
loads multiple windows identical to those already open, instead of just loading
my home page.
I have tested this on a single window. I load a new window and all previously
open windows are displayed, instead of one blank window. So, no matter what I
do, every time I try to load a new blank page and go home, I end up with
numerous identical windows.

I haven't uninstalled/reinstalled FF but will try this after reporting
this.

[Bug 68589] Re: Failed file system check, weird behaviour

2007-06-19 Thread Theodore Ts'o
Well, the problem is that we need to distinguish between a critical
filesystem (like /usr) being not present, and something completely
optional, like /media/disk. More of a concern is where a filesystem is
critical for an application-level server, and if it's missing it causes
the server to really go boom. So we could just do the don't worry, be
happy approach and just silently ignore a missing filesystem, and then
let the server come up skipping the filesystem check and the filesystem
mount. But this could cause bigger problems and cause more troubles
than if the server is left down.

I could see a system configuration option which has the don't worry, be
happy philosophy, and the more careful mode. But that's an
initscripts issue, not an e2fsprogs issue.

Also, if the Ubuntu installer was automatically adding all of these
entries to /etc/fstab, that might be a design flaw in the Ubuntu
installer.

the Update Manager Team fixed that bug. All my current pkg repos

As for Firefox's problem - found the solution on the Preferences

Thanks,

[Bug 117343] Re: OpenOffice hangs in Page Layout dialog

2007-06-19 Thread Chris Cheney
Stephan,

I was unable to reproduce this on a freshly installed Kubuntu 7.04 and
Ubuntu 7.04 in en_US.UTF-8. Are you still able to reproduce this
problem?

Also anyone else who may see this bug can you reproduce this issue?

Thanks,

Chris Cheney

Re: [Bug 111672] Re: There is significant lag of cursor movement due to mouse clicks when in full screen mode in Open Office Writer

2007-06-19 Thread Joel Voogt
Chris,

Yes, it happens every time. When I say cursor I mean the blinking vertical
line (for lack of better words to describe it), not the mouse pointer. You
must be in full screen mode and have some text typed. When you click in
different sections of the text there is a significant lag time (about a
second) before the cursor moves to that new location. I apologize if my
previous explanation was not detailed enough.

I am running OO.org version 2.2.0 which is the current version in the Ubuntu
repositories, but not the most recent OO.org release. Thank you for your
reply.

[Bug 68020] Re: Azureus crashes just after startup (attempt to show sliding notification window)

2007-06-19 Thread Mike Fedyk
Ok, I will have to retract my claim that the problem is fixed. I had
the (options - interface - display - disable animation/on top style
for alert messages) option set so there was now way I would see the
problem.

With the package in feisty/universe (2.5.0.0repack1-0ubuntu1), I can
reproduce the crash when it attempts to create the sliding window.

With the package in feisty-proposed/universe
(2.5.0.0repack1-0ubuntu1.1~proposed1), it does not crash anymore. It
does show the warning message below that might have something to do with
it:

(SWT:5655): Gtk-WARNING **: gtk_widget_size_allocate(): attempt to
allocate widget with width 250 and height -1

I do not think this bug is a duplicate of bug 57875, but I do think the
fix for it has made the search for the root cause of this bug simpler.

[Bug 121237] Totem opens on swf, but cannot play it

2007-06-19 Thread Gerhard Klünger
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

Ubuntu 7.04, german version.
Doubleclicking a *.swf opens totem as player, but errmsg is displayed, that
totem encountered a problem and a problemreport should be made. Here it is. The
report-mechanism (Totem Hilfe Fehler melden) that took me to this place here
gathered informations about the crash, hopefully they are enclosed here
automatically.

The *.swf is located on a windows-share, but other files in the same

Since there is no option to attach the *.swf, I will add another follow
