[Bug 122072] Re: xgnokii fails to start

2007-06-25 Thread pkot
Please report it with your gnokii config file, phone model and
connection type. It seems that your hardware (probably serial cable) is
not well supported by Linux kernel or you misconfigured gnokii.

[Bug 120569] Re: [gutsy] gramps segfaults on load, and dumps

2007-06-25 Thread Alexander Roitman
This is most likely to be the gtkspell problem. If you can reproduce the
gramps crash, try running the code below in terminal, without gramps. It
should not crash if there's no bug. If this crashes then it's a gtkspell
bug.

$ python
>>> import gtk
>>> import gtkspell
>>> import locale
>>> lang = locale.getlocale()[0]
>>> if lang == None:
... print "lang is None"
... success = False
... else:
... gtkspell.Spell(gtk.TextView()).set_language(lang)
... success = True
...
>>> success
True

[Bug 47455] Re: KDM detected memory corruption

2007-06-25 Thread atollic
I have fresh installed Feisty and get the "kdm_greet[5241]: Internal error:
memory corruption detected" message also.
When I start the machine, hard disk operates a while but screen stays black. If
I wait a minute and then press ctrl+alt+delete, login screen appears. After
that everything seems normal.
For several weeks my machine worked fine. This problem appeared recently.

Re: [Bug 80893] Re: [Feisty] Inaudible audio upon resuming from suspend-to-disk

2007-06-25 Thread Mikele
weird, shmi85, on my T60 HIBERNATE_MODE=platform does the trick, and
many other success stories come from thinkpad owners.

first, I would try the unpatched kernel, for which Guilherme Salgado has
built a deb package (link above in this thread): download
http://rookery.ubuntu.com/~kyle/kernels/salgado/2007-04-25/linux-image-2.6.20-15-generic_2.6.20-15.28_i386.deb

go to the download location in the shell, and issue the command
$> sudo dpkg -i linux-image-2.6.20-15-generic_2.6.20-15.28_i386.deb

pretty easy, thanks to Guilherme.

since you state thate your sound problem are not fixed by a hard
shutdown, I would also check if the settings of the sound card are
screwed up (no sound could come from a muted channel, and hiss from a
feedback due to the microphone input too loud and not muted).

just issue
$> sudo alsamixer

play around with the levels and see if anything changes.

cheers
m

[Bug 122230] Report Needed

2007-06-25 Thread Hilario J. Montoliu \(hjmf\)
Thank you Rusl for submitting this report.

Could you please try to obtain a backtrace by following the instructions
on [1], or upload the crash report that probably was generated during
the crash and that should be located at /var/crash/ to [2].

Please indicate which extensions/plugins do you have enabled; and if
this crash is reproducible describe the steps that lead to it (it is
very important for us to have a test case for each crash).

This will greatly aid us in tracking down your problem.

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 122241] LUKS-encrypted CDROM / DVD ROM are detected but mounting fails

2007-06-25 Thread Ari
Public bug reported:

I am creating LUKS-encrypted "crypto dvds" and "crypto cds" basically
with the script found here:

http://gentoo-
wiki.com/HOWTO_Burn_Encrypted_Optical_Media_With_Luks#Automation

I can manually mount and umount win no problems the encrypted optical
media, using the helper mount/umount scripts which just do a "cryptsetup
luksOpen" etc.

This seems to indicate that the LUKS volumes are fine. I have various
other LUKS partitions in HD and USB that I use daily without a glitch.

The whole CD encryption and manual mounting process works fine. However,
when I insert an encrypted CD, gnome-mount detects that it is an
encrypted CD and prompts me for the password. I put the correct password
and then hit enter. Then the password prompt dialog window freezes for
about 4 minutes, after which I get an error message suggesting that the
password was incorrect. If I enter my password again, the window freezes
again.

If I just hit Cancel at the password prompt, and the mount the encrypted
CD by hand, everything works fine.

If this gets fixed, when I insert an encrypted CD I would just get
prompted for the password, and if the password is correct the cd would
be mounted to /media/cdrom , which would be awesome.

Perhaps this bug is the same as: Bug #117011 in gnome-mount, although
I'm using optical media, and not USB storage.

Thanks!

[Bug 120578] Re: Some fonts look painfully ugly in OpenOffice.org

2007-06-25 Thread Philipp Kohlbecher
I am using a TFT display. According to the laptop manufacturer's website, it's
a 15" SXGA+ TFT 1.400 x 1.050. (It's a Samsung X20 XVM 1730 V laptop.) I need
915resolution to set this resolution.
Font rendering is set to "Subpixel smoothing" with "Full" hinting and subpixel
order "RGB". The other font rendering options make the Times font look
considerably better, and other fonts slightly blurred.
My xorg.conf is attached.

[Bug 120278] Re: [Gutsy] VLC Crashes instantly fails to Start

2007-06-25 Thread Emmet Hikory
I've not had success compiling the proposed candidate wxwidgets2.8 for

and as such am unable to test sufficiently for upload. I've

check the debdiff, and if it works for you, resubscribe ubuntu-universe-

[Bug 30207] Re: media:/ does not handle floppy mounting correctly

2007-06-25 Thread Paul L.
I've been looking for this answer, and here it is!

I have Kubuntu Feisty Fawn (7.04) installed from LiveCD (no upgrade) on an
Intel based i386 laptop (Toshiba Satellite P105-S6147). I have a USB floppy
drive connected to a USB seven-port hub. I was unable to mount and access any
inserted diskette. My /etc/fstab entry for the device is:
/dev/sdd/media/floppy0 autorw,user,noauto 0 0
The only way I could mount and access the floppy, with a diskette inserted, was
to open a root Konsole and mount it manually. The work-around fix by Arc at
permalink
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kdebase/+bug/30207/comments/45 was
tried, and it worked. I didn't like that it opened up all the HDs and their
partitions for access, so I opted to use Maini Marco's suggestion with a slight
modification. I access my floppy drive (with inserted diskette) by typing
media:/sdd/ in the location bar. This mounts and opens the floppy drive
diskette.

This basic issue needs to be given a high priority for fixing. One
should not have to go to this trouble to simply have access to ones USB
floppy drive.

[Bug 122225] Re: please sync package robot-player from debian unstable

2007-06-25 Thread Caspar Clemens Mierau
Thanks for your sync request. You can heavily speed up the process when
you provide us with the following information:

Source package name

Source package version number to sync

Where to sync from (e.g. 'Debian sid main', 'Debian experimental non-
free')

If there are Ubuntu changes apart from debian/changelog or if
UpstreamVersionFreeze is in effect:

A copy of the entries from debian/changelog corresponding to the changes
relative to the current version in Ubuntu

If there are Ubuntu changes:

a description of each of the Ubuntu changes (a bullet point list is
fine, but copies of debian/changelog aren't)

a brief explanation of why each one may be dropped (e.g., it's been
merged into Debian, is no longer appropriate, etc.)

an explicit confirmation that the Ubuntu changes should be overridden.

[Bug 120392] Re: CAnnot delete Calendars in Evolution 2.10

2007-06-25 Thread Joe Harrington
Responding to Sebastien, yes, you have to delete some data before you
see the problem. However, good design would not then make it impossible
to delete the associated handle on the data. On the contrary, if the
program notices something is missing it should either delete the handle
to the missing data or (better) complain and offer options. Judging by
the number of similar bugs, this is a common problem.

The idea that the ap directory is untouchable is a holdover from Windows
and is quite non-Unix. There are lots of reasons to allow the user to
work with data directly, and the better aps both document how to do this
and handle the changes gracefully. In this case, one is *forced* to
look under the hood to do the basic task of moving data from one machine
to another. This basic task is totally undocumented, and the obvious
action of simply moving a .evolution tree from one machine to another
makes all your non-default calendars inaccessible from within the
program, even though the data are still in the same files as on the old
machine. You can only say "do nothing outside the program" if it is
both possible and well documented how to do all the obvious tasks from
inside the program. This is not currently the case: you do have to poke
around in .evolution to find the files to import to regain access to the
data.

[Bug 57041] Re: no buffer space available [Tribe1]

[Bug 121458] Re: [patch] fix broken --stdin-stdout option that writes to stdin

2007-06-25 Thread Israel G. Lugo
Thank you for your responses, dAniel and Luke. I appreciate the
clarification.

Of course I did not believe this to be the norm in a great distribution
like Ubuntu, and I am happy to contribute to such a worthy project. I
was frustrated with what happened, though, especially since I did not
hear anything for several days after asking (even though the update
itself was out within a day of initial report).

Given that this was only a simple oversight, I assume that there is some
way to make things right... dAniel's idea would seem like a good course
of action.

Regards,
Israel

[Bug 80893] Re: [Feisty] Inaudible audio upon resuming from suspend-to-disk

2007-06-25 Thread shmi85
Just an update on my Thinkpad R52 running Fiesty. As stated earlier, I
tried this fix:

HIBERNATE_MODE in /etc/default/acpi-support to:

HIBERNATE_MODE=platform

as requested by csd. Unfortunately, although it worked for two days, I
suspended the machine earlier this afternoon (power-saving mode rather
than the powered down shutdown or whatever of hibernate) and now the
sound is no longer working, even after a completely shutdown and
restart. In addition, occasionally I'm getting an extremely high pitched
feedback-like whine from the machine and quieter and lower in pitch
whines slightly more frequently, usually when I move the laptop but not
always. In the acpi-support file, there's a line refering to the suspend
function and changing it from S3 to S1. I'm assuming that has something
to do with amount of power conserved and I was hesitant to fiddle with
it because I really have no idea what changing the values does.

I'd like to try using the unpatched kernel, since it seemed to work for
a lot of people, but I'm very new at running a new linux system and I
don't know how to compile and install a new kernel while leaving the
rest of the system (GUI settings, etc) unchanged. If anyone's willing to
help me out with the specifics of this operation, please feel free to
email me at shmi85 at yahoo dot com. Thanks!

[Bug 121165] Re: /dev/.initramfs/progress_state is corrupted at shutdown

2007-06-25 Thread Martin Schwenke
This happened again. Here are the contents of
/dev/.initramfs/progress_state:

"0(p'-KA

Meaningless nonsense! Actually, the last 2 characters were some sort of
scripted K (kappa?) and a scripted A (?), probably form some distant
part of the console font.

Whatever the case, the file contains rubbish. However, the rubbish is
somewhat consistent because the "Unterminated quoted string error" is
common.

So, I'm wondering what this is? Filesystem corruption? The result of a
bizarre race condition? Memory corruption?

I'm betting against a hardware problem. I'm not seeing problems at
other times, it seems relatively consistent and this only started
occurring when I upgraded to Feisty. However, I've seen less likely
coincidences :-)

Ideas?

Thanks...

[Bug 122233] aptitude changelog $pkgname/$distro fails when distro is a source only repository

[Bug 122231] openoffice.org-gtk does not give instructions for use on non-gnome desktops

2007-06-25 Thread ajd
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org-gtk

To reproduce:

1. Be using a non-gnome window manager/desktop environment (I tested standalone
Openbox) with the GTK+ libraries and OpenOffice.org installed, along with other
GTK applications. Observe that OpenOffice.org does not use the GTK widget
controls and GTK file chooser like other applications.
2. Install openoffice.org-gtk from the repositories.
3. Start OpenOffice.org

What happens:

Observe that OpenOffice.org does not use GTK widget controls nor the GTK
file chooser. This behavior can only be fixed by issuing "export
OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP=gnome" on a terminal or in a startup script, but this
is poorly (not) documented.

What should happen:

This value should be added to some startup script automatically OR
(probably preferably) the openoffice.org-gtk package description should
include documentation for the OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP environment variable.
Then users would be able to tell how to use the package right when it
was installed, or else have it be put into use automatically.

Why:

The current behavior (of installing the package but not having it do
anything) is counterintuitive and the package does not provide a way to
determine that this environment variable is the problem.

Note: I would assume similar behavior occurs with openoffice.org-gnome,
openoffice.org-qt and openoffice.org-kde, but I have not tested this.

[Bug 121381] Re: php5-mcrypt problem

2007-06-25 Thread Loye Young
Same here.

I've done a little bit of poking around in the *.inc files. The error
seems to have something to do with the $iv variable in the client-side
cookie.

I note that I am also running phpmyadmin and phpldapadmin, and neither
of them are having the problem. In both cases, cookie authentication
using mcrypt is explicitly configured, but I can't find anyplace in
ldap-account-manager that configures the authentication regime.

[Bug 61235] Re: USB mass storage stops working after a while

2007-06-25 Thread djhuang
I do have the same issue when boot from i386 desktop CD and try to install
Feisty into a SanDisk Cruzer Crossfire 4GB flash disk.

During the installation, there would be some writing errors and rejecting I/O
to dead device
message in dmesg. The first boot of this flash disk would end up with a
corrupted filesystem.
The USB host on my motherboard is Intel based.

If I put the udev rule mentioned above in the installing system and target
system, the error
messages were not in the dmesg, but a no-access or insufficient permission
show in the booting
of the new installed system when the udev rule was executed. Of course, the
USB flash disk booting was failed also.

Hope the extra information could help a little.

That is incorrect. The result of the bug was the window manager not

no problems with the Metacity Window Manager. I have not had any more

[Bug 89022] Re: GNOME session hangs after login

2007-06-25 Thread Yuji
Just like DerekBuranen, on my system I had the same issue when logging
in a grey box appeared, relogged in with failsafe GNOME and actually got
it to boot once, and it showed the error listed at the top. Well
checking my etc/network/interfaces file and of course i had to do some
commeting items out and low and behold I commented out the:

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

But once I allowed the system to see the loopback the desktop loaded
without issue. So I dont believe it to be a sound issue and or a bug.

Thanks Derek for the info.

I'm confirming too. I couldn't even get WEP to connect (manually), but
I believe that was just me (and me constantly changing my settings

I noticed the last update on this bug was 2005-10-25. I am wondering
what the current status of this bug is. Are you still having problems

can you please update this bug with the version of Kubuntu you are using

Thanks,

[Bug 108527] Re: desktop-effects enabled sometime freeze computer

2007-06-25 Thread grumpybuffalo
Hello,
I have a similar problem using beryl. Oftentimes, some/all applications
will not redraw, but they have not frozen. This means that if I click on the
logout button, it shows nothing happening, but then if I click where the log
out button *would* be, it logs out and I can log back in. If only one window is
refusing to redraw, I can minimize it and unminimize to redraw it; however the
problem will still be there.
The problems stay the same when I use compiz instead of beryl. I am using
an HP compaq nc6000. If anyone can figure this out, please let me know.

  Thanks,
  Grumpy Buffalo

[Bug 121458] Re: [patch] fix broken --stdin-stdout option that writes to stdin

2007-06-25 Thread Luke Yelavich
This was also an oversight on my part, as the one who reviewed and
uploaded the change. I should have asked for the debdiff to be
resubmitted with credit given where credit was due, but obviously my
mind wasn't on the job as well as I would have liked at the time.

I would like to apologise for my mistake, and will certainly make sure
that this mistake doesn't get made again, at least on my part. Not
giving credit where its due is certainly not the Ubuntu norm, so any
criticism that is leveled, is leveled at me, which I take
constructively.

Any help that the Ubuntu project gets is welcomly received, and should
be praised where possible, so thanks to both Israel G. Lugo, and dAniel
hAhler for the patches submitted.

[Bug 43239] Re: fsck should check against a timestamp "49710 days" old

2007-06-25 Thread Theodore Ts'o
I started looking further on this issue, and it looks like it has been
fixed in util-linux by making /etc/localtime a file, and by making sure
the timezone is set correctly at boot time. See these debian bug
reports:

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=343645
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=342887

In any case, it's not an e2fsprogs issue. Time should be set correctly
when e2fsck runs, gosh darn it!

[Bug 110138] Re: findfs/blkid detects ext3 partition as ntfs (without UUID)

Note: e2fsprogs 1.40-rc1 was released yesterday at:

http://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/tytso/e2fsprogs/e2fsprogs-1.40-rc1.tar.gz

E2fsprogs 1.40 final is scheduled to be released at the end of the week;
if folks could test it to make sure there aren't any seriously
embarassing bugs, I would greatly appreciate it. I am currently running
e2fsprogs 1.40-rc1 on my Ubuntu Feisty laptop

[Bug 121605] Re: [gutsy] segfault on joining secure network

Same here. Using WPA1. Denying prompts for my key. It then fails, but
I think that's due to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source

related to this.

gnome-keyring-manager works fine.

I disabled the keyring integration in /etc/pam.d/gdm (commented out the
following lines) just in case but it didn't help:
## Added so that NetworkManager doesn't keep asking for Keyring password.
## relies on having same password to keyring as login password.
#auth optional pam_keyring.so try_first_pass
#session optional pam_keyring.so

nm-applet dumps a core file as well.

[Bug 1] Re: Microsoft has a majority market share

I disagree with the premise of this bug. I've never bought a computer
with a pre-installed OS. Systems without pre-installed software have
been available since before 1987 when I bought my first x86 machine.
Yeah, yeah, I know the Great and Powerful and Evil MS dominates the
market and free software shoudl rule the day. But it doesn't. Not even
close. Not even with all the magical strides touted here. Don't kid
yourself. The market works. People "buy" what they want and they often
prefer to "pay" for a product they want even when a product they don't
want is free. Go figure. Stupid humans.

[Bug 43239] Re: fsck should check against a timestamp "49710 days" old

2007-06-25 Thread Theodore Ts'o
The fundamental bug here is in the init scripts. E2fsck assumes that
the system time is correct. Unfortunately, if you have the system time
set to tick localtime, instead of GMT, the Debian/Ubuntu boot scripts do
not adjust for the fact that the hardware clock is not ticking UTC until
after checking the root filesystem. This causes the "last checked"
time to be writen out in the wrong time zone, and then if you reboot
right away, it causes this problem.

In the latest versions of e2fsprogs, e2fsck will print a messaging that
the clock is insane, and then check the filesystem since it could also
be the case that the clock is insane. But the real, fundamental flaw
is that the init scripts aren't correctly making sure that the system
clock is accurately set before e2fsck is run.

[Bug 121709] Re: Patching of netbeans.conf does not work

2007-06-25 Thread Emmet Hikory
Thanks for the update. I've uploaded the changes. Please mark this bug
"Fix Released" when it is distributed in the archives. This could have
been automated by adding the text (LP: #121709) to the debian/changelog
entry that closes the bug.

Separately, debian/copyright contains 3 copies of the Apache 1.1
license, 6 copies of CDDL 1.0 and 8 copies of the Apache 2.0 license.
It may be preferable to include these licenses verbatim in source:
debian/ and binary: usr/share/doc/netbeans5.5/ and only provide the
locations(as e.g. "/usr/share/netbeans5.5/CDDL") in the copyright file,
in the manner of the LGPL reference (or at least it might make it easier
for a user to understand their rights and obligations). The other
licenses are mostly singletons and the TOSC license is very short, so
the rest are probably best in debian/copyright directly. Fixing this
isn't worth a special upload, and it's not a blocker for this revision,
but do consider it for inclusion in a future release.
