[Bug 120569] Re: [gutsy] gramps segfaults on load, and dumps
This is most likely to be the gtkspell problem. If you can reproduce the gramps crash, try running the code below in terminal, without gramps. It should not crash if there's no bug. If this crashes then it's a gtkspell bug. $ python >>> import gtk >>> import gtkspell >>> import locale >>> lang = locale.getlocale()[0] >>> if lang == None: ... print "lang is None" ... success = False ... else: ... gtkspell.Spell(gtk.TextView()).set_language(lang) ... success = True ... >>> success True -- [gutsy] gramps segfaults on load, and dumps https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/120569 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I have fresh installed Feisty and get the "kdm_greet[5241]: Internal error: memory corruption detected" message also. When I start the machine, hard disk operates a while but screen stays black. weird, shmi85, on my T60 HIBERNATE_MODE=platform does the trick, and many other success stories come from thinkpad owners. first, I would try the unpatched kernel, for which Guilherme Salgado has built a deb package (link above in this thread): download http://rookery.ubuntu.com/~kyle/kernels/salgado/2007-04-25/linux-image-2.6.20-15-generic_2.6.20-15.28_i386.deb go to the download location in the shell, and issue the command $> sudo dpkg -i linux-image-2.6.20-15-generic_2.6.20-15.28_i386.deb pretty easy, thanks to Guilherme. since you state thate your sound problem are not fixed by a hard shutdown, I would also check if the settings of the sound card are screwed up (no sound could come from a muted channel, and hiss from a feedback due to the microphone input too loud and not muted). just issue $> sudo alsamixer play around with the levels and see if anything changes. cheers m On Tue, 2007-06-26 at 04:35 +, shmi85 wrote: > Just an update on my Thinkpad R52 running Fiesty. [Bug 122241] LUKS-encrypted CDROM / DVD ROM are detected but mounting fails
Public bug reported: I am creating LUKS-encrypted "crypto dvds" and "crypto cds" basically with the script found here: http://gentoo- wiki.com/HOWTO_Burn_Encrypted_Optical_Media_With_Luks#Automation I can manually mount and umount win no problems the encrypted optical media, using the helper mount/umount scripts which just do a "cryptsetup luksOpen" etc. This seems to indicate that the LUKS volumes are fine. I have various other LUKS partitions in HD and USB that I use daily without a glitch. The whole CD encryption and manual mounting process works fine. However, when I insert an encrypted CD, gnome-mount detects that it is an encrypted CD and prompts me for the password. I put the correct password and then hit enter. Then the password prompt dialog window freezes for about 4 minutes, after which I get an error message suggesting that the password was incorrect. If I enter my password again, the window freezes again. If I just hit Cancel at the password prompt, and the mount the encrypted CD by hand, everything works fine. If this gets fixed, when I insert an encrypted CD I would just get prompted for the password, and if the password is correct the cd would be mounted to /media/cdrom , which would be awesome. Perhaps this bug is the same as: Bug #117011 in gnome-mount, although I'm using optical media, and not USB storage. [Bug 30207] Re: media:/ does not handle floppy mounting correctly
I've been looking for this answer, and here it is! I have Kubuntu Feisty Fawn (7.04) installed from LiveCD (no upgrade) on an Intel based i386 laptop (Toshiba Satellite P105-S6147). I have a USB floppy drive connected to a USB seven-port hub. I was unable to mount and access any inserted diskette. My /etc/fstab entry for the device is: /dev/sdd/media/floppy0 autorw, user, noauto 0 0 The only way I could mount and access the floppy, with a diskette inserted, was to open a root Konsole and mount it manually. The work-around fix by Arc at permalink https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kdebase/+bug/30207/comments/45 was tried, and it worked. I didn't like that it opened up all the HDs and their partitions for access, so I opted to use Maini Marco's suggestion with a slight modification. I access my floppy drive (with inserted diskette) by typing media:/sdd/ in the location bar. This mounts and opens the floppy drive diskette. This basic issue needs to be given a high priority for fixing. One should not have to go to this trouble to simply have access to ones USB floppy drive. -- media:/ does not handle floppy mounting correctly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/30207 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Team, which is a bug assignee. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

Thanks for your sync request. [Bug 120392] Re: CAnnot delete Calendars in Evolution 2.10
Responding to Sebastien, yes, you have to delete some data before you see the problem. However, good design would not then make it impossible to delete the associated handle on the data. On the contrary, if the program notices something is missing it should either delete the handle to the missing data or (better) complain and offer options. Judging by the number of similar bugs, this is a common problem. The idea that the ap directory is untouchable is a holdover from Windows and is quite non-Unix. There are lots of reasons to allow the user to work with data directly, and the better aps both document how to do this and handle the changes gracefully. In this case, one is *forced* to look under the hood to do the basic task of moving data from one machine to another. This basic task is totally undocumented, and the obvious action of simply moving a .evolution tree from one machine to another makes all your non-default calendars inaccessible from within the program, even though the data are still in the same files as on the old machine. You can only say "do nothing outside the program" if it is both possible and well documented how to do all the obvious tasks from inside the program. This is not currently the case: you do have to poke around in .evolution to find the files to import to regain access to the data. --jh-- -- CAnnot delete Calendars in Evolution 2.10 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/120392 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you for your responses, dAniel and Luke. I appreciate the clarification. Of course I did not believe this to be the norm in a great distribution like Ubuntu, and I am happy to contribute to such a worthy project. I was frustrated with what happened, though, especially since I did not hear anything for several days after asking (even though the update itself was out within a day of initial report). [Bug 80893] Re: [Feisty] Inaudible audio upon resuming from suspend-to-disk
Just an update on my Thinkpad R52 running Fiesty. As stated earlier, I tried this fix: HIBERNATE_MODE in /etc/default/acpi-support to: HIBERNATE_MODE=platform as requested by csd. Unfortunately, although it worked for two days, I suspended the machine earlier this afternoon (power-saving mode rather than the powered down shutdown or whatever of hibernate) and now the sound is no longer working, even after a completely shutdown and restart. In addition, occasionally I'm getting an extremely high pitched feedback-like whine from the machine and quieter and lower in pitch whines slightly more frequently, usually when I move the laptop but not always. In the acpi-support file, there's a line refering to the suspend function and changing it from S3 to S1. I'm assuming that has something to do with amount of power conserved and I was hesitant to fiddle with it because I really have no idea what changing the values does. I'd like to try using the unpatched kernel, since it seemed to work for a lot of people, but I'm very new at running a new linux system and I don't know how to compile and install a new kernel while leaving the rest of the system (GUI settings, etc) unchanged. If anyone's willing to help me out with the specifics of this operation, please feel free to email me at shmi85 at yahoo dot com. [Bug 121165] Re: /dev/.initramfs/progress_state is corrupted at shutdown
This happened again. Here are the contents of /dev/.initramfs/progress_state: "0(p'-KA Meaningless nonsense! Actually, the last 2 characters were some sort of scripted K (kappa?) and a scripted A (?), probably form some distant part of the console font. Whatever the case, the file contains rubbish. However, the rubbish is somewhat consistent because the "Unterminated quoted string error" is common. So, I'm wondering what this is? Filesystem corruption? The result of a bizarre race condition? Memory corruption? I'm betting against a hardware problem. I'm not seeing problems at other times, it seems relatively consistent and this only started occurring when I upgraded to Feisty. [Bug 122231] openoffice.org-gtk does not give instructions for use on non-gnome desktops
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: openoffice.org-gtk To reproduce: 1. Be using a non-gnome window manager/desktop environment (I tested standalone Openbox) with the GTK+ libraries and OpenOffice.org installed, along with other GTK applications. Observe that OpenOffice.org does not use the GTK widget controls and GTK file chooser like other applications. 2. Install openoffice.org-gtk from the repositories. 3. Start OpenOffice.org What happens: Observe that OpenOffice.org does not use GTK widget controls nor the GTK file chooser. This behavior can only be fixed by issuing "export OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP=gnome" on a terminal or in a startup script, but this is poorly (not) documented. What should happen: This value should be added to some startup script automatically OR (probably preferably) the openoffice.org-gtk package description should include documentation for the OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP environment variable. Then users would be able to tell how to use the package right when it was installed, or else have it be put into use automatically. Why: The current behavior (of installing the package but not having it do anything) is counterintuitive and the package does not provide a way to determine that this environment variable is the problem. Note: I would assume similar behavior occurs with openoffice.org-gnome, openoffice.org-qt and openoffice.org-kde, but I have not tested this. ** Affects: openoffice.org (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- openoffice.org-gtk does not give instructions for use on non-gnome desktops https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/122231 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 61235] Re: USB mass storage stops working after a while
I do have the same issue when boot from i386 desktop CD and try to install Feisty into a SanDisk Cruzer Crossfire 4GB flash disk. [Bug 43239] Re: fsck should check against a timestamp "49710 days" old
The fundamental bug here is in the init scripts. E2fsck assumes that the system time is correct. Unfortunately, if you have the system time set to tick localtime, instead of GMT, the Debian/Ubuntu boot scripts do not adjust for the fact that the hardware clock is not ticking UTC until after checking the root filesystem. This causes the "last checked" time to be writen out in the wrong time zone, and then if you reboot right away, it causes this problem. In the latest versions of e2fsprogs, e2fsck will print a messaging that the clock is insane, and then check the filesystem since it could also be the case that the clock is insane. [Bug 121709] Re: Patching of netbeans.conf does not work
Thanks for the update. I've uploaded the changes. Please mark this bug "Fix Released" when it is distributed in the archives. This could have been automated by adding the text (LP: #121709) to the debian/changelog entry that closes the bug. Separately, debian/copyright contains 3 copies of the Apache 1.1 license, 6 copies of CDDL 1.0 and 8 copies of the Apache 2.0 license. It may be preferable to include these licenses verbatim in source: debian/ and binary: usr/share/doc/netbeans5.5/ and only provide the locations(as e.g. "/usr/share/netbeans5.5/CDDL") in the copyright file, in the manner of the LGPL reference (or at least it might make it easier for a user to understand their rights and obligations). The other licenses are mostly singletons and the TOSC license is very short, so the rest are probably best in debian/copyright directly. Fixing this isn't worth a special upload, and it's not a blocker for this revision, but do consider it for inclusion in a future release. ** Changed in: netbeans5.5 (Ubuntu) Status: In Progress => Fix Committed -- Patching of netbeans.conf does not work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/121709 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
