[Bug 86426] Re: MASTER: [Feisty] Evolution always tries to print A4

2007-06-27 Thread Till Kamppeter
Mark Erbaugh, for you on your computer modifying the hard-coded page
size and recompiling should serve, but for a distro package I suggest to
do something like

page_setup = gtk_page_setup_new ();
paper_size = gtk_paper_size_new ();
print = gtk_print_operation_new ();

Then the paper size from /etc/papersize will be used.

This is still a very quick and dirty hack, as it serves only for people
with one printer with their countries standard paper size loaded. For
anyone working with more than one paper size a paper size option (in
print dialog or in page setup dialog) is needed.

[Bug 121243] Re: Keyboard accelerators are incoherent

2007-06-27 Thread Sebastien Bacher
ok, so the problem is that you have to use use the down arrow to move
from the applications menu to the categories. Not sure if that's a bug
because when you have the menu bar highlighted the key are used to move
between applications, places and system. Do you consider having to use
the arrow during key navigfation as a bug? Under windows you don't get
the bug because there is only one menu so the key event can go directly
to the menu content

Firefox display good, SciTE same problem, Open Office - some troubles.

I found the solution.
Font developer comment:
"Only one font size will work, and this native font size is 16 pixels.
On a PC, 16 pixels is the exact equivalent of 12 points."
I've changed gedit font fize to 11.5 - works good.

[Bug 94119] Re: CDROM drive no longer working, unable to mount.

2007-06-27 Thread Steve Feinstein
I found a semi-older version that is working. See my question at:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=486073

to see if I did a bad move.

For developers, the date seems to be that on 5/30 a kernel upgrade came
for 2.6.20-16 which reverted back to using hdc. This works for my cd
burner. On 6/7 a new kernel upgrade came for 2.6.20-16 which went back
to using scd0 and my cd does not work anymore.

I copied the 5/30 version of initrd.img-2.6.20-16-generic to the boot
folder. I did not change anything else (except reboot), the drive
reverted back to hdc and cd works again.

[Bug 108731] Re: [Feisty] Installer is very slow when changing pages

2007-06-27 Thread Martin Pagh Goodwin
OK I have gone back to the installer as I wanted to reinstall the
laptop, as I have problems with many aspects of Ubuntus operation
(wireless, eth0, etc.) Among other things I am having kern.log and
syslog filled with garbage:

 ubuntu kernel

11

every second.

I thought this was due to problems in the latest kernel release, but
booting the installer I just checked kern.log and found it being flooded
too.

I am writing this from my workstation, which has a KVM switch to allow
me to access my workstation, my firewall/server, and two laptops (one
via port extender, the other - the one with the problem just by plugging
in the KVM plugs). Well, I boot up the laptop and bring it onto my desk
screen

tail /var/log/kern.log -f

and my screen (and the open laptop next to it) fills with "1". I
switch the KVM to my workstation to report my problems, and presto the
laptop now shows a series of "legible" errors:

Jun 27 19:28:01 ubuntu last message repeated 172 times
Jun 27 19:28:01 ubuntu kernel: [   714.452000] ACPI Error (evgpe-0711): No
handler or method for GPE[17], disabling event [20060707]

If I switch the KVM back the "11" messages continue. If I unplug the
screen I get the [ 714 messages again.

There is a brief section of "171717171717" the moment the monitor tries
(unsuccessfully) to match the resolution of the laptop

The installer is nice and snappy - no problems as long as I keep my
external screen unplugged.

This has nothing to do with the installer, but something with the video
adaptor. Now I just need to find out where to look

Martin

[Bug 122321] Re: GNOME “Create Document ” fails with NFS-mounted $HOME

2007-06-27 Thread Sebastien Bacher
The speed is not the same when you use a local disk and a network one,
that's why the behaviour is not the same. Those are bug in the "non
local" case, which doesn't get as much testing since most users use
their desktop disk and not a network one

[Bug 121439] Re: [Gutsy]Network Manager Applet can't connect wireless with ipw3945 driver

2007-06-27 Thread yostral
With today's updates, network-manager-gnome 0.6.5-0ubuntu4, no more
crash on encrypted network (bug 121228 fixed).

But still no connection for me with ipw3945 driver. Nothing on open
network. When network is encrypted, a window open to ask for the key,
but nothing happens after I entered it. Nothing about gnome-keyring and
of course no connection.

If you went more information, tell which ones. I've already given my

Re: [Bug 121791] Re: System freeze randomly

2007-06-27 Thread Horatiu
Hi there,

Well the system freezed .. no mouse/keyboard
activity.
I tried to restart X with Ctrl+Alt+BackSpace or
Ctrl+Alt+R or Ctrl+Alt+Sys but still nothing. The only
thing that worked was the reset button.
When I installed Ubuntu it worked fine in that
evening, but in the next day I started Ubuntu and
opened Gaim and Totem movie player to watch a movie.
The system freezed while i was watching the movie. I
restarted the computer and the same thing happened
again. Sometimes it freezes even if I don't watch a
movie. But the most frequent cases were while i
watched some movie.

The network manager? I read about it in a post on a
topic that was very similar. I turned off the network
manager but then while I was reading more on that
topic it seemed that, for that guy, even with the
network manager turned off it still didn't work. So I
turned it back on. And after a half hour it freezed
again. Then I restarted into windows :P. Probably i
got frustrated :D.
If it wasn't for this problem .. I would remove
windows instantly. That's how much I like Ubuntu.

Oh, this happened both in Beryl and "normal" Ubuntu ..
it's called Compiz? Or Compiz is something else? I'm
new to linux but i;m a programmer and I learn fast :).

Anyway if you need me to test something I will gladly
do it just let me know ..

Keep up the good work .. it's worth it :)

[Bug 122658] Please merge lintian (main) from Debian Unstable (main)

2007-06-27 Thread Arthur Loiret
Public bug reported:

Hello,

There is a new Debian revision:

lintian (1.23.32) unstable; urgency=low

  The "stability of output" release.

  * checks/binaries:
+ [RA] Sort the package SONAMEs to provide more stable lintian tags.
  Patch from Cyril Brulebois. (Closes: #428681)
  * checks/files{.desc,}:
+ [RA] Limit the Zope license exception to only .dtml, .pt, and .cpt
  files.  Thanks, Bernd Zeimetz.
+ [RA] Sort the files listed in package-contains-hardlink so that the
  lintian output is stable regardless of the hash order of the
  directory when the tar file was built.
+ [RA] Don't incorrectly skip all other file location checks for hard
  links.
+ [RA] Check for files installed in /usr/lib/sgml. This transition
  was probably completed long ago, but checking for regression can't
  hurt.  (Closes: #90019)
  * checks/manpages{.desc,}:
+ [RA] Check for dh_make man page templates (by looking for the
  template whatis entry). Thanks, Bill Allombert. (Closes: #173583)
  * checks/menus:
+ [RA] Avoid a quadratic search of the files in the package on
  doc-base files that list tons of files individually. This speeds up
  a lintian check of openoffice.org-dev-doc enormously.
  * checks/po-debconf:
+ [RA] Close the template file handle between files so that the line
  numbers for translated default fields are correct.
  * checks/rules{.desc,}:
+ [RA] Check for ignoring all errors from make clean or make distclean
  and recommend skipping the call if there's no Makefile instead.
  Thanks, Branden Robinson.  (Closes: #325372)
  * checks/scripts{.desc,}:
+ [RA] Add Octave as an interpreter, and allow both versioned and
  unversioned forms. Thanks, Sebastian Harl. (Closes: #428403)
+ [RA] Check for deprecated install-sgmlcatalog usage.
  * checks/shared_libs:
+ [RA] Report the correct file for shlib-with-nonpic-code rather than
  the last shlib in the package. (Closes: #429840, #429528)

  * frontend/lintian:
+ [RA] Don't require -v in order to report unused overrides; they're
  already info-level tags, which is enough hiding.
+ [RA] Remove old dead unused override code.

  * reporting/html_reports:
+ [RA] Fix a Perl warning when generating the clean maintainer pages.

  * unpack/unpack-binpkg-l1:
+ [RA] Sort the output of tar tfv by filename so that the lintian
  output will be stable regardless of the hash order of the directory
  when the tar file was built.

Ubuntu changes for the merge:

lintian (1.23.32ubuntu1) gutsy; urgency=low

  * Merge from Debian unstable. Remaining Ubuntu changes:
+ If version contains "ubuntu", only accept Ubuntu distributions
  (#120040)
+ checks/lintian.desc: add "bad-ubuntu-distribution-in-changes-file" tag
+ checks/nmu: avoid NMU warning on Ubuntu uploads
+ frontend/lintian: check Ubuntu distribution if changelog contains "ubuntu"
+ Update Maintainer field to match Debian-Maintainer-Spec

Thanks.

[Bug 122659] Constantly reconfiguring network interface

2007-06-27 Thread hovang
Public bug reported:

I upgraded from 6.10 to 7.04 and now got this behaviour. Every 10
minutes, something that seems to be a reconfiguration of eth0 is
initiated. It seems like it's all initiated by the avahi-daemon.

Very annoying since it's causing all my ssh sessions to stall for a
minute or two.

This is a snap from the logs of what happens:

Sigh. I have no idea where I found a "Page Setup" option, but certainly
it was not on Evolution. Please disregard the comment above regarding
Page Setup availability on Evo 2.11.4.

On the other hand, http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=446894 does
have a patch for this, but I guess it will take a while to go thru (it
has just been proposed, and not yet reviewed).

Not sure where to go from here.

[Bug 90769] Re: [apport] qalculate-gtk crashed with SIGSEGV in _gtk_marshal_BOOLEAN__BOXED()

2007-06-27 Thread Mika Wahlroos
I get a crash with a similar stack trace when moving focus in the window
in certain ways. It's very easy to reproduce for example by starting
Qalculate and pressing the tab button twice. Does the crash you're
experiencing happen under similar circumstances?

At least the crasher bug I've noticed has apparently been fixed upstream
in the latest release (0.9.6). The changelog for that upstream release
includes "Fix crash when expression entry reclaims focus if compiled
with optimizations (GTK+)". I don't know if that's exactly the same bug
I've experienced, but the cause may well be the same, and the crashes
don't occur with the upstream 0.9.6 source.

The patch attached in the following upstream bug also seems to fix the crash
when applied to the 0.9.4 source in Feisty:

[Bug 122652] [Gutsy Tribe 2] Widescreen (19") and ATI Radeon w/ ati driver causes horizontal lines in bottom left corner

2007-06-27 Thread Richard Johnson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

See attached image below (next post)

When using the LiveCD, or even after an install with the alternate CD
image (Gutsy <=Tribe 2), the bottom left hand corner of the screen has
horizontal lines that actually fluctuate/pulsate.

Monitor:
19" Widescreen Starlogic (if you find info on this LCD anywhere, let me know,
it is a cheapy but works great)

Video Card:
Radeon 9700

Out of the box the refresh rate isn't correct, 1024x768, when the native
widescreen resolution with this setup is 1440x900. In order for me to
get this to work and the lines to go away I have to install the FGLRX
driver.

Not life threatening, but it does exist.

[Bug 62452] Re: ipw3945 not working (Edgy 2.6.17-9-generic #2 SMP)

2007-06-27 Thread bobosky
Sorry for asking a question in the wrong place. Now the question is at
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/8863

And I am glad it works for some people but I would be very thankful for
some help.

Are there any details missing in my question that should be included to
make it easer to answer?

Tim

[Bug 86426] Re: MASTER: [Feisty] Evolution always tries to print A4

2007-06-27 Thread Mark Erbaugh
re:
page_setup = gtk_page_setup_new ();
 paper_size = gtk_paper_size_new ("iso_a4");/*FIXME paper size hardcoded */
 print = gtk_print_operation_new ();

Great catch! As an interim fix, is it possible to re-compile evolution
with a hard-coded letter size setup?

[Bug 120365] Re: CUPS hangs on large job queue

2007-06-27 Thread megalo
A typical error in the error.log is:

---
E [26/Jun/2007:13:38:01 +0200] Unable to accept client connection - Too many
open files.
E [26/Jun/2007:13:38:01 +0200] cupsdReadClient: Unable to write 32768 bytes to
/var/spool/cups/0005: Bad file descriptor
E [26/Jun/2007:13:38:07 +0200] Unable to create job status pipes - Too many
open files.
E [26/Jun/2007:13:38:08 +0200] cupsdReadClient: Unable to write 32768 bytes to
/var/spool/cups/0006: Bad file descriptor
---

As I wrote, this happens when I quickly add a lot of jobs. However,
those errors did not occur in Edgy, even though I did exactly the same
thing.

Thanks!

[Bug 122645] Re: manual partitioning hangs indefinitively

2007-06-27 Thread Adilson Oliveira
Partman logs just after hang. I'm testing using a Intel macbook which
already have installed Windows and MacOS X so it had efi, ntfs and afs,
ext3 and swap partitions (ext3 and swap from a previous Ubuntu
instalation). All the previous instalations that way, including Tribe 1,
went fine. If I also try to run ubiquity with --debug, it works.
