[Bug 122167] Re: Firefox crash on gutsy on opening preferencies/downloads/save as dialogs

2007-06-27 Thread Justin Payne
Hi Avb,
Thanks for the additional information. With this being a reproducable bug, can
you please visit https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MozillaTeam/Bugs and obtain the
relevant logs with their section on Crash and Backtrace? It would be
beneficial for the Mozilla team to help them track down the relevant part that
causes the issue.

Thank you again for your assistance,
Regards,
Justin

[Bug 121406] Re: "BIOS Bug" while booting and later on a lot of "APIC error on CPU0: 40(40)"

2007-06-27 Thread Kyle McMartin
It means there's a bug in your BIOS, there's nothing that we can do
about it other than advise you to upgrade your BIOS from your
motherboard manufacturers website.

The use of "SCSI emulation" is normal, because when using libata, disk
drives are exposed through the SCSI subsystem.

[Bug 121861] Re: adept crash

2007-06-27 Thread Vincent Legout
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. Unfortunately we can't
fix it, because your description didn't include enough information. You
may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems.
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 122616] vc switching problems on intel 965 board

2007-06-27 Thread Ian Jackson
Public bug reported:

To reproduce:
 1. Install current gutsy on an Intel 965 board with the following graphics
controller:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82G965 Integrated
Graphics Controller (rev 02)
 2. From the login screen, press Ctrl-alt-f2 to switch to a text VC
 3. Press Alt-f7 to switch back to the X server
 4. Observe display problem: display is uniform brown backdrop and pulsates to
black and back at about 2Hz (!)

Alternatively:
 2. Boot and log in.
 3. Press Ctrl-alt-backspace to kill the X server
 4. Wait for the X server to respawn
 5. Press Ctrl-alt-f2 to switch to a text VC
 6. Press Alt-f7 to switch back to the X server
 7. Observe display synchronisation problem - it's like a TV with poor
horizontal locking, constantly whizzing to the side, and it's hard to tell but
I think the content is vertically much smaller than the screen and padded with
the browny background (so perhaps I'm seeing two half-size frames)

[Bug 45404] Re: thinkpad-keys on ThinkPad X60* uses a large amount of CPU

2007-06-27 Thread Kristian Berge Nessa
Whoopie: That sounds great! Just what is needed. (But does it work on any
thinkpad model, older ones in particular?)
Also, I think thinkpad-keys will be with us for some time still, and as such
should be patched ASAP anyway to provide a general fix that it not dependent on
a recent kernel version. (I agree with Benjamin that 5Hz polling frequency
should be more than enough)

If what I read on ibm-acpi-devel is correct, the reporting of keys as ACPI
events was only recently added, its target kernel release being 2.6.23 which is
still a little way off into the future for the ordinary ubuntu user:

[Bug 3498] Re: Curses box uses wrong characters when X cannot start

2007-06-27 Thread paul fox
i'm running feisty, and believe i have a simpler way of reproducing this
problem. i have never, to my knowledge, changed my local/language/etc.
(i'm in the US.)

boot the system. don't bother logging in to gdm.

switch directly to a console, with control-alt-F1.

log in, and run: "dialog --msgbox foo 0 0"

observe funky box-drawing characters: inverted L shapes, downarrows,
etc.

run "sudo /etc/init.d/console_setup restart"

rerun the dialog command and observe that the dialog box output is now
correct.

switch to the X11 vt, with alt-control-F7. don't log in.
switch back to the console screen with alt-control-F1.

observe that the dialog output (which should still be on the console)
has now changed to "funky". re-run the dialog command. observe that
fresh painting still produces "funky" output.

3. Do sitecopy --catchup
4. Make some modifications to local copy of site
5. Do sitecopy

It will show that all files are changed and need updating while only
some files (not all) were changed.

sitecopy: Warning: Current state method differs from stored in site `kolia'.
sitecopy: All existing files will appear changed (use catchup?).

Then I downloaded source from package's site and compiled it. And it
works as expected:

[Bug 122611] "create launcher" access keys inconsistency

2007-06-27 Thread Juan Pablo Salazar Bertín
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

In the "Create Launcher" dialog, when "application" type is chosen, the
access key for the "Command" textbox is "A", which is fine, but when
"application in terminal" is chosen, the access key for the "Command"
textbox is changed to "C" (which is already assigned to the "Cancel"
button).

It doesn't cause any harm, but the access key should always be "A". I
don't see a reason to change it to "C" when the launcher type is
"application in terminal".

I'll add screenshots.

[Bug 55495] Re: Problem with HP Virtual Keyboard on DL320 on Dapper

2007-06-27 Thread Martin Braun
I can confirm this bug on a HP ProLiant ML310G4 with Ubuntu 6.06 LTS -
it works with 6.10 (server).

Workaround:
When the installation hangs, switch to console 4 and unload the uhci usb module:

$ modprobe -r uhci_hcd

After that, the setup goes on. You'll have trouble again when booting into the
installed system.
syslog and kern.log are getting bloated by the messages provided at the
original bug report.
To avoid this, you have to unload the uhci module, make a new initrd and boot
using the new initrd:

$ sudo rmmod uhci_hcd
$ sudo depmod -a
$ sudo mkinitramfs -o /boot/initrd.img-2.6.15-26-server-custom

modify the file "/boot/grub/menu.lst" and change the line 114:

initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.15-26-server
to
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.15-26-server-custom

$ sudo grub-install hd0
$ sudo reboot

Note that this leads to a non-functional USB configuration. A patch to
the Kernel has been done with 2.6.16.34 (vanilla).

[Bug 122563] Re: The alternate install CD creates a /boot partition with only 32 inodes

2007-06-27 Thread Martin Eisenhardt
I just checked the one machine on which the kernel upgrade went
smoothly. The partition table there is

Disk /dev/sda: 80.0 GB, 80026361856 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 9729 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 1 16 128488+ fd Linux raid autodetect
/dev/sda2 17 138 979965 82 Linux swap / Solaris
/dev/sda3 139972977039707+ fd Linux raid autodetect

Disk /dev/sdb: 80.0 GB, 80026361856 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 9729 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sdb1 1 16 128488+ fd Linux raid autodetect
/dev/sdb2 17 138 979965 82 Linux swap / Solaris
/dev/sdb3 139972977039707+ fd Linux raid autodetect

The RAID setup is the same: md0 (sda1 and sdb1 mirrored) and md1 (sda3
and sdb3 striped).

The interesting part is the number of inodes on the ext2 file system on
md0:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo e2fsck /dev/md0
e2fsck 1.40-WIP (14-Nov-2006)
boot: clean, 36/128 files, 6514/32096 blocks

So, in this case, partman decided to create 128 inodes, on the same
hardware, using the same partition scheme. Odd. :-D

[Bug 122607] ofpath failure -sata, firewire, usb - patch to fix

2007-06-27 Thread Peter Xw
Public bug reported:

Attached patch for ofpath fixes some outstanding problems, to increase
boot install success rate for Applemac G5 sata and external firewire
drives, adds usb paths.

Problem:
Fails to recognise Direct-Access-RBC.
Fails to recognise usb.
Fails to return correct paths for k2-sata dual drives in some Applemac
G5.Caused by use of open firmware compatible property, and inconsistent use in
G5 firmware.

Resulting in failure to install boot partition correctly, or in post
install use of yaboot installers.

[Bug 122604] [Gutsy] compiz wrapper wrongly thinks I'm using vesa or vga driver

2007-06-27 Thread Jan Mynarik
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

Compiz wrapper wrongly thinks I'm using vesa or vga driver, although my
driver is i810_drv.so. The result is that I can't use compiz at all and
it automatically falls back to metacity.

Driver recognition logic in compiz wrapper sees loading of both vesa and
vga drivers but these are unloaded afterwards. I have no xorg.conf. Will
attach my Xorg.0.log.

If it's possible I suggest using xdriinfo.

Except that the debconf question is what is specifically being addressed
and that's a Debian/Ubuntu issue.

[Bug 122599] Wrong memory usage displayed

2007-06-27 Thread Id2ndR
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-monitor

In the Ressources tab on GSM, memory usage reach 40% on my computer. If
I use top commande instead, I can guess that it's more than 90%.

In Process tab, I have VMWare running on my computer and GSM display
37MB used for it rather it is 644m 230m 224m (for VIRT RES SHR) in
top. So I wonder the meanful of GSM memory usage.

I don't think this is linked to bug #72935 but it may.
