[Bug 112925] Re: eclipse crash, when spawning browser

2007-06-28 Thread Paul Wagland
I can confirm that eclipse no longer crashes, so that is a good start.
However the browser still does not load.

I also find that 'sh /usr/lib/firefox/run-mozilla.sh /usr/bin/eclipse'
does not work for me, as in eclipse does not crash, but it does not load
up the browser.

The only workaround that I have found is to use xulrunner

to reproduce, just navigate around and bring your mouse to the back or

Does anyone have some newbie directions to correcting the no internal sound

PS I've been using ubuntu and mint for a few months now and besides a
few things that I haven't got around to addressing I totally dig linux.

It has been not possible to obtain a good retrace.

Please Nic Everett, could you please try to obtain a backtrace by following
the instructions

Please indicate which extensions/plugins do you have enabled; and if
this crash is reproducible describe the steps that lead to it (it is
very important for us to have a test case for each crash).

This will greatly aid us in tracking down your problem.

Thanks in advance.

I will be staying in a guest house for a month. There is wireless(and

[Bug 122972] logout stalls until esd is killed

2007-06-28 Thread David Burgess
Public bug reported:

Fresh install of Edubuntu server x86_64 Feisty. Steps to reproduce bug
100% of the time:

1. Create user
2. Boot thin client and login with username
3. Log out of thin client
3. Login to server with username
4. Click the logout button
5. Click any of the logout options

The computer is not totally frozen; I can still move the mouse and if
there is music playing it continues playing. I can still use tty and
ssh.

If I login to tty1 with a different user and do
"ps -u guest > echo > output.normal"
while in an X session with guest, then after trying to logout, do
"ps -u guest > echo > output.frozen"
then
"diff output.normal output.frozen"
I see
"3c3
< 7879 ?00:00:00 x-session-manag
---
> 7879 ?00:00:01 x-session-manag
19a20
> 8631 ?00:00:00 esd"

which looks like esd has started with the attempt to logout. If I do
"sudo kill -9 8631"
then I get back to my gdm login screen, as if the esd was causing the hang.

Most important, is tex-common at least at 1.8?

tex-common (1.8) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Bump urgency since this fixes a RC bug which hits anyone upgrading

[Bug 122971] hal-device-manager crashed with AttributeError in on_about_activate()

2007-06-28 Thread Zachary Blair
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hal

I am running Ubuntu from the LiveCD.

Steps to reproduce:
With no applications open, select System->Preferences->Hardware Information. On
the Hardware Information window, select Help->About. About seven seconds
later, a window titled "Application problem" will appear, stating "Sorry,
Hardware Information closed unexpectedly".

Note:
Despite the error dialog claiming otherwise, Hardware Information did not close
at all, and if I select "Close" to dismiss the error dialog, I can continue
using the Hardware Information dialog as usual. Conversely, if I select
"Restart Program" on the error dialog, another instance of the Device Manager
window appears, so I then have two. I am able to reproduce this bug every time
I try.

[Bug 122970] windows do not maximize correctly for non-standard desktop configuration

2007-06-28 Thread ih
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

If I make an odd desktop configuration of the panels the windows do not
maximize correctly.

An example configuration will be attached in the post that follows right
after this.

Basically I have configured my desktop with 2 panels which are top and
one left. The second top one is "non expanding" so there is plenty of
room for the window to occupy the whole rectangle. When you maximize a
window it resizes to the area as if the 2nd top panel is "expanding" and
occupies the whole width of the desktop.

I can manually resize the window to occupy the whole area.

The problem might actually be in metacity, not sure.

This is on Ubuntu 7.04 AMD64, but I believe it's easily reproducible on
other machines.

[Bug 122969] Does not handle mailto URI according to standard

2007-06-28 Thread Aleksandersen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mozilla-thunderbird

Hi,

Most web publishers use the email URI like this:
mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

The above behavior is supported by Thunderbird. However the specification says
addresses should have a name proceeded by an address wrapped up in single
brackets like this:
mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] (escaped: Full Name <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>)

The above URI is NOT supported by Thunerbird. Thunderbird gets focus
from web browsers, but does not open a composer window and populates the
receiver field.

Note that "mailto:Full%20Name"; is not valid according to the standard,
but SHOULD pre populate the receiver field and suggest addresses from
the address book (if possible) too.

[Bug 120097] Re: Dell E530 (Sepang) No Audio

2007-06-28 Thread Michael Morgan
Unfortunately, it seems that we may have to install 1.0.14 to get
everything to work. Realtek's modifications are negligent, and 1.0.14
definitely works when installed properly. The other catch is the
requirement of the model=3stack option for snd-hda-intel.

The reason I say we may have to install 1.0.14, is that the fix is in
alsa-utils. alsa-utils depends on alsa-lib. alsa-lib depends on alsa-
driver. When one changes the base API of the alsa-driver package to
1.0.14, the codecs and chip drivers also must be changed - symbols DO
change!!! When you change those drivers, the alsa-lib driver has to be
upgraded (same problem), and so forth for the alsa-utils.

Please prove me wrong!

I plugged another iPod nano (2G) and it worked. Umounted it and plugged
mine, it also worked. Umounted a couple of times and now is not
recognizing anymore. It's not even charging or giving the msg to not
unplug.

I them tried plugging a non-powered USB hub (with a half inch cable),
plugging and external USB HD, a USB pen and iPod 4G on hub. Also did not
work.

Attached is a file with the mesgs I got from dmesg as I did all of these

[Bug 122961] Re: Corrupt graphics with Matrox G450 on start of Live CD (Gutsy)

2007-06-28 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Thank you for your bug report.

/usr/bin/compiz is a wrapper script around compiz.real which should
detect whether or not your card is capable of running Compiz and use
Metacity if it isn't. Clearly this detection hasn't worked for you.

Can you attach the output of the commands "glxinfo",
"LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=1 glxinfo", and "xdpyinfo"? Those are the
programs we use to determine whether or not your card can run compiz.

[Bug 122964] Enable two-finger scrolling by default

Public bug reported:

By default, two-finger scrolling is currently disabled. However, this can be a
very useful feature, and it is commonly used - and expected - by Mac users on

[Bug 122962] Can't right click on Mac using any intuitive method

2007-06-28 Thread Tim Hull
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

In the latest Gutsy Gibbon (Tribe 2+updates), there is *no* intuitive method to
right-click on a MacBook or other Mac with only one mouse button.
On Mac OS X, ctrl+click and two fingers on trackpad+click (for Macs with
trackpads) are used for this purpose. However, on Ubuntu Gutsy, the only way
to right-click
out-of-the-box is to tap on the trackpad with three fingers - far from
intuitive. Could something more along the lines of OS X's defaults be used
instead?

Re: [Bug 121819] Re: No WLAN on Acer Extensa 1014

2007-06-28 Thread Ivan Garcia
You must upgrade the version of Ndiswrapper, the 1.38 is having problems
with new commands of the driver .ini that makes the system hang.
Upgrade to the last version(currently 1.47)

[Bug 122961] Corrupt graphics with Matrox G450 on start of Live CD (Gutsy)

2007-06-28 Thread Jeremy Wahl
Public bug reported:

When I loaded the Desktop CD of Gutsy Tribe 2 using a Matrox Millenium
G450 video card in live mode and at first login, I get corrupt graphics.
I see only the left side of the panels, no entries in the System menu,
and no window decorations. I know that my card isn't capable of using
Compiz because there is no composite or OpenGL support for it.

Here is the output of "sudo lspci -nn -vv":

[Bug 122958] Trackpad quite sluggish with default acceleration settings

2007-06-28 Thread Tim Hull
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg-driver-synaptics

On my MacBook, the default pointer acceleration as used by the synaptics
driver is unbearably slow. In particular, it takes more than one finger
swipe on the trackpad to move the pointer from the bottom of the screen
to the top of the screen - which is EXTREMELY annoying when doing any
significant amount of work. The default acceleration for the synaptics
driver needs to be changed to be more in line with Windows and OS X
users' expectations - or, at the very least, be high enough such that
two swipes aren't required to move the pointer from top to bottom.

[Bug 120569] Re: [gutsy] gramps segfaults on load, and dumps

2007-06-28 Thread Alexander Roitman
Can you try this script instead of gramps? Just run
$ strace python test.py
with the attached test.py file. This script has nothing to do with gramps and
should crash just the same. Just to show that this is not a gramps issue and
should be dealt with by gtkspell folks.

[Bug 122957] X-server corrupted after ubuntu auto-update

2007-06-28 Thread JoeL Klipfel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

I'm running Ubuntu 7.04 on an AMD Athlon 64 x2 3800 system with 2GB, ram
DFI motherboard with a nForce 4 cipset, and a nVidia 6600gt GPU. My
system was disconnected from the internet for a period of about a month.
After reconnected my system to the internet a couple of days ago and
updating my O.S. through through the update-manager, X-server seems to
have somehow been corrupted. Now when I turn on my system, I get a
message saying that the xorg file is mis-configured and X will not run
until the problem is resolved. Problem is, I don't think that there is
anything wrong with the xorg.conf file as I first tried replacing it
with some of my backup xorg files that have worked fine in the past then
tried running the xorg.conf auto-configuration program (dpkg-reconfigure
xserver-xorg) to no avail.

[Bug 14310] Re: fontconfig don't use autohinter as default

2007-06-28 Thread Tim Hull
It seems that, in common usage, the autohinter ought to at least be enabled for
the default fonts used in Ubuntu (Vera Sans/Vera Serif)
as it makes them look MUCH better. The above-mentioned Ubuntu/Fedora
comparison does a good job of showing this... Granted, some fonts may look
worse with the autohinter, but I think with the fonts used most ofen on Ubuntu,
it yields a substantial improvement. Is this a possibility?

[Bug 108786] Re: Visual Glitch on the screen with a Dell inspiron 8600

2007-06-28 Thread Kyle Olivo
As noted in my (unfortunate) duplicate bug report, I am also having this
issue. I've recently tried the Gutsy Tribe 1 and Tribe 2 live cds with
identical results. I'm including the text of my original bug report
below. The xorg.conf file is the default from the live cd.

Original bug report text follows:

"System: Dell Inspiron 8600
ATI Mobility 9600 Pro 128mb
WXGA Display (1280x800 maximum resolution)

This issue can be reproduced with a Feisty Fawn live cd.

I am experiencing graphical corruption in the form of horizontal lines
in the center of the screen. The lines do not appear on a blank
background, they appear to be due to the partial redrawing of what is
immediately to the left of the center of the screen (window borders,
mouse cursor, etc). This only occurs when using the 'ati' open source
driver, the fglrx driver works fine. An Edgy Eft live cd works perfectly
(also with 'ati' driver), detects maximum resolution and has 3d support
with no graphical corruption.

I have tried setting manual horizontal and vertical sync values in
xorg.conf."
