[Bug 124140] Google Desktop extension crashes Firefox
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: mozilla-firefox After installing Google Desktop for Linux, Firefox crashes multiple times an hour. Usually while opening a new page, sometimes out of the blue. The problem seems to be fixed if I disable the extension "Google Desktop for Linux" (1.0.1 version). [Bug 48627] Re: Poor resolution of "database locked" problem
Here's a patch for this issue. After investigating the work necessary for this fix, I've discovered that it would be just as simple to call dpkg directly rather than using another script to do this. I know this seems like duplication of work, and I greatly apologize for this, but in the interest of reducing dependencies and keeping things simple, I've got this working in C++. No matter which way we went with this, it requires some tinkering in how adept initializes its connection with the dpkg database. Here's the patch, and it could probably use an extra pair of eyes. ** Attachment added: "locked_fix patch." http://launchpadlibrarian.net/8312759/locked_fix.patch -- Poor resolution of "database locked" problem https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/48627 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 123901] Re: add a "Show Copyright Information" item to right click or package menu
That is the idea behind gnome-app-install: Abstract the packages on a an application level. But the package's name and its version can be found in the last line of the description. I don't want the user to be aware that there is some documentation deeply hidden in the directory structure. The documentation should be included and accessible within the application itself. If the information found in /usr/share/doc is of such importance we should think more about a yelp integration. I always like to get some input and comments on gnome-app-install. [Bug 123635] Re: Please sync adept (2.1.3) from Debian (unstable)
As a contributor to adept, I would second a serious use of caution in any sort of syncing. If we have a new version of apt-front to work with, I would urge an approach of a very supervised and tested merge more than a sync. We do have extensive changes to adept including crash bug fixes with the upgrader, the inclusion of the kubuntu logo for supported packages, changelog viewing support, and quite a few more grab-bag bug fixes. Some of these bug fixes have greatly changed how some things happen in adept. The feature I'm working on now for fixing the dpkg locks is one of the most complained about bugs and it requires some serious tinkering in how adept opens the dpkg database for use with the adept UI. Let's please make sure we've got a good reason for why we need to do this. As I stated previously, if an apt or apt-front change requires some updating of adept, I'll see if I can put some time into helping after I'm done with the bug I'm currently on. I just don't want to see us throw away a lot of the stuff we've got in there. -- Please sync adept (2.1.3) from Debian (unstable) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/123635 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 123220] Re: gnome-app-install crashed with TypeError in show_description()
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 122914 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/122914 I understand why you ask these questions. My brother used to be a programmer. And I helped him debug things. I actually hadn't run or select any packages for it to crash. It simply crashes as soon as I turn it on. Sometimes it takes it a minute or so, but I could just let it sit there and then it would crash. Not sure if there were any conflicts going on between two programs??? Sometimes I could try to install a program, like blender, then as I'm installing blender, then window would come up telling me that it was crashing. One thing you may want to keep in mind. I don't know if you remember me telling you that I have a cable modem with comcast and have VoIP with Sunrocket or not. But I was having connectivity problems with 7.10 without trying to install any programs. So, I don't know if part of it might be that it was trying to get on the Internet trying to download some of the components or not was helping some of the problems or not? Hope that helps. Randall R. [Bug 124128] unable to edit account information
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution I needed to change out going email account to SMTP.comcast.net There was no way to enter the account to change the field. The dialog box appeared for only a fraction of a second before disappearing. As in the above bug report, I too could not open the "help menu". Also I was unable to enter a password when setting up my email account - there was no place to input the data and no "forward" button - only "back" and "cancel" buttons were displayed. The above was all in addition to not being able to close the application. I finally had to shut power off to the computer. I don't think that a single function worked as it was intended to work. Is this an "alpha" release? I am not asking the question to try to be funny. I wonder about how far in development the aplication is. [Bug 124125] laptop-mode.conf inconsistency
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: laptop-mode-tools In Ubuntu Feisty, If a user chooses to use laptop-mode on battery AND on AC power, by making the following changes to /etc/laptop-mode/laptop-mode.conf # Enable laptop mode when on battery power. ENABLE_LAPTOP_MODE_ON_BATTERY=1 # Enable laptop mode when on AC power. ENABLE_LAPTOP_MODE_ON_AC=1 # Enable laptop mode when the laptop's lid is closed, even when we're on AC # power? (ACPI-ONLY) ENABLE_LAPTOP_MODE_WHEN_LID_CLOSED=1 he expects laptop-mode to be run at boot, but it isn't. You have to do a sudo update-rc.d laptop-mode defaults. This happens because Ubuntu relies on battery events to initiate laptop-mode, instead of symlinking /etc/init.d/laptop-mode to the corresponding runlevels. To avoid this inconsistency, there should be a warning in the config file that the above manual step has to be performed, or the symlinks should be created in the corresponding runlevel (this last option would not raise any problems to those not using laptop mode, because /etc/init.d/laptop-mode first checks if the user turned on laptop-mode in /etc/defaults/acpi-support before proceeding). (You might argue why someone would run laptop-mode on AC power. However, there are some valid use cases). [Bug 124126] Enable automount with static mount points
Public bug reported: Version: Kubuntu 7.04 User has no choice of automounting removable devices to static or dynamic mount points. If Media Notifier Daemon is on, it keeps asking about inserted disks or flash drives. And if user defines "Do nothing" as the default action or stops Media Notifier, the automount just stops working! When Media Notifier is on and there is a string for cd/dvd drive in /etc/fstab, mounting settings are disabled in properties dialog (right click on device -> properties -> mounting tab). User has to have choice between: 1. (Present state) Automount with Media Notifier with those dialogs 2. Automount without Media Notifier (or "Do Nothing actions") to dynamic mount points () 3. Automount with Media Notifier to static mount points. To achieve condition 3 i did the following: 1. Comment out any cd/dvd strings in /etc/fstab 2.
