[Bug 124140] Google Desktop extension crashes Firefox

2007-07-04 Thread Emilian Bold
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mozilla-firefox

After installing Google Desktop for Linux, Firefox crashes multiple
times an hour. Usually while opening a new page, sometimes out of the
blue.

The problem seems to be fixed if I disable the extension "Google Desktop
for Linux" (1.0.1 version).

This is also a Firefox bug since I don't expect an extension to bring
down the whole browser (without at least some warning).

Details:
google-desktop-linux 1.0.1.0060
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.0.12) Gecko/20070601

[Bug 48627] Re: Poor resolution of "database locked" problem

2007-07-04 Thread Michael D. Stemle, Jr.
Here's a patch for this issue. After investigating the work necessary
for this fix, I've discovered that it would be just as simple to call
dpkg directly rather than using another script to do this. I know this
seems like duplication of work, and I greatly apologize for this, but in
the interest of reducing dependencies and keeping things simple, I've
got this working in C++.

No matter which way we went with this, it requires some tinkering in how
adept initializes its connection with the dpkg database. Here's the
patch, and it could probably use an extra pair of eyes.

[Bug 123901] Re: add a "Show Copyright Information" item to right click or package menu

2007-07-04 Thread Sebastian Heinlein
That is the idea behind gnome-app-install: Abstract the packages on a an
application level. But the package's name and its version can be found
in the last line of the description.

I don't want the user to be aware that there is some documentation
deeply hidden in the directory structure. The documentation should be
included and accessible within the application itself. If the
information found in /usr/share/doc is of such importance we should
think more about a yelp integration.

I always like to get some input and comments on gnome-app-install.

Cheers,

Sebastian

[Bug 124134] OpenOffice.org: printed documents miss some russian letters

2007-07-04 Thread jaded Phoenix
Public bug reported:

OpenOffice.org defaults to 'Deja Vu' fonts in all applications (Writer,
Calc, Base, etc.). When printing documents containing russian letters it
misses some letters (e.g. bold russian 'M').

This does not happen if I change the font to one of Nimbus family (e.g.
'Nimbus Sans L').

Can we make Nimbus the default font for OOo? The fonts are most complete
replacement for windows's Arial and Times I've found.

[Bug 124131] Suspend and Hibernate don't work in low-latency kernel

2007-07-04 Thread Xipietotec
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-lowlatency

I'm running Ubuntu 7.04 and linux-image-2.6.20-16-lowlatency. On a Dell
Inspiron E1505N with Ubuntu preinstalled. Since switching from the
-generic kernel, to the -low-latency kernel I have lost both suspend and
hibernate.

E.g., they won't even fully go into either suspend nor hibernate. I had
heard that there was an early issue related to the same thing with the
-generic kernel when Dell first started shipping, due to Dell's odd
partitioning scheme. I was wondering if this might be the same issue
with regards to the low-latency kernel?

I am running Feisty Kubuntu on a Dell Inspiron 6400. I always allow the

[Bug 123936] Re: adept doesn't allow you to turn off backport repositories

2007-07-04 Thread Michael D. Stemle, Jr.
Do you know if this was the sources editor inside of adept, or if it was
the program that pops up to let you edit the sources from inside adept?
There are two ways it is done, and knowing which way you're doing this
will make a big difference in how we go about troubleshooting and fixing
this bug.

Thanks.

[Bug 123635] Re: Please sync adept (2.1.3) from Debian (unstable)

2007-07-04 Thread Michael D. Stemle, Jr.
As a contributor to adept, I would second a serious use of caution in
any sort of syncing. If we have a new version of apt-front to work
with, I would urge an approach of a very supervised and tested merge
more than a sync.

We do have extensive changes to adept including crash bug fixes with the
upgrader, the inclusion of the kubuntu logo for supported packages,
changelog viewing support, and quite a few more grab-bag bug fixes.
Some of these bug fixes have greatly changed how some things happen in
adept. The feature I'm working on now for fixing the dpkg locks is one
of the most complained about bugs and it requires some serious tinkering
in how adept opens the dpkg database for use with the adept UI.

Let's please make sure we've got a good reason for why we need to do
this. As I stated previously, if an apt or apt-front change requires
some updating of adept, I'll see if I can put some time into helping
after I'm done with the bug I'm currently on. I just don't want to see
us throw away a lot of the stuff we've got in there.

2007-07-04 Thread rrfoshee
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 122914 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/122914

I understand why you ask these questions. My brother used to be a
programmer. And I helped him debug things. I actually hadn't run or
select any packages for it to crash. It simply crashes as soon as I
turn it on. Sometimes it takes it a minute or so, but I could just let
it sit there and then it would crash. Not sure if there were any
conflicts going on between two programs??? Sometimes I could try to
install a program, like blender, then as I'm installing blender, then
window would come up telling me that it was crashing. One thing you may
want to keep in mind. I don't know if you remember me telling you that
I have a cable modem with comcast and have VoIP with Sunrocket or not.
But I was having connectivity problems with 7.10 without trying to
install any programs. So, I don't know if part of it might be that it
was trying to get on the Internet trying to download some of the
components or not was helping some of the problems or not?

Hope that helps.

[Bug 124128] unable to edit account information

2007-07-04 Thread KC4COP
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I needed to change out going email account to SMTP.comcast.net

There was no way to enter the account to change the field. The dialog
box appeared for only a fraction of a second before disappearing.

As in the above bug report, I too could not open the "help menu". Also I
was unable to enter a password when setting up my email account - there
was no place to input the data and no "forward" button - only "back" and
"cancel" buttons were displayed. The above was all in addition to not
being able to close the application. I finally had to shut power off to
the computer.

I don't think that a single function worked as it was intended to work.
Is this an "alpha" release? I am not asking the question to try to be
funny. I wonder about how far in development the aplication is.

[Bug 124125] laptop-mode.conf inconsistency

2007-07-04 Thread nglnx
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: laptop-mode-tools

In Ubuntu Feisty,

If a user chooses to use laptop-mode on battery AND on AC power, by
making the following changes to /etc/laptop-mode/laptop-mode.conf

# Enable laptop mode when on battery power.
ENABLE_LAPTOP_MODE_ON_BATTERY=1

# Enable laptop mode when on AC power.
ENABLE_LAPTOP_MODE_ON_AC=1

# Enable laptop mode when the laptop's lid is closed, even when we're on AC
# power? (ACPI-ONLY)
ENABLE_LAPTOP_MODE_WHEN_LID_CLOSED=1

he expects laptop-mode to be run at boot, but it isn't. You have to do a
sudo update-rc.d laptop-mode defaults. This happens because Ubuntu
relies on battery events to initiate laptop-mode, instead of symlinking
/etc/init.d/laptop-mode to the corresponding runlevels.

To avoid this inconsistency, there should be a warning in the config
file that the above manual step has to be performed, or the symlinks
should be created in the corresponding runlevel (this last option would
not raise any problems to those not using laptop mode, because
/etc/init.d/laptop-mode first checks if the user turned on laptop-mode
in /etc/defaults/acpi-support before proceeding).

(You might argue why someone would run laptop-mode on AC power. However, there
are some valid use cases).

Thank you for reading my bug report.

[Bug 124126] Enable automount with static mount points

2007-07-04 Thread Dmitry Yurchenko
Public bug reported:

Version: Kubuntu 7.04

User has no choice of automounting removable devices to static or dynamic mount
points.
If Media Notifier Daemon is on, it keeps asking about inserted disks or flash
drives. And if user defines "Do nothing" as the default action or stops Media
Notifier, the automount just stops working!

When Media Notifier is on and there is a string for cd/dvd drive in
/etc/fstab, mounting settings are disabled in properties dialog (right
click on device -> properties -> mounting tab).

User has to have choice between:
1. (Present state) Automount with Media Notifier with those dialogs
2. Automount without Media Notifier (or "Do Nothing actions") to dynamic mount
points ()
3. Automount with Media Notifier to static mount points.

To achieve condition 3 i did the following:
1. Comment out any cd/dvd strings in /etc/fstab
2. Created file /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/20thirdparty/95-static-mount.fdi with:

true
dvd

3. Set "Do Nothing" as default actions for all kings of media in Media Notifier

[Bug 124124] evdev (kernel) module is not loadable

2007-07-04 Thread Joe Neeman
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.22-7-generic

The evdev.ko module cannot be loaded into the kernel (the version is
2.6.22-7.14). I get the following message:

$ sudo modprobe evdev
FATAL: Error inserting evdev
(/lib/modules/2.6.22-7-generic/kernel/drivers/input/evdev.ko): Invalid module
format

There are no related messages in dmesg or /var/log/messages, but 'file'
gives me the following output:

$ file /lib/modules/2.6.22-7-generic/kernel/drivers/input/evdev.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.22-7-generic/kernel/drivers/input/evdev.ko: ELF 32-bit LSB
executable, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), for GNU/Linux 2.6.1, dynamically
linked (uses shared libs), stripped

This seems wrong; using 'file' on another kernel module gives me:
$ file /lib/modules/2.6.22-7-generic/kernel/drivers/input/evbug.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.22-7-generic/kernel/drivers/input/evbug.ko: ELF 32-bit LSB
relocatable, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), not stripped

[Bug 122560] Re: no sound with 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller

2007-07-04 Thread Darren Albers
Ahh I see, well I really meant that this should be assigned to linux-
source-2.6.22 as well since rc7 doesn't include these patches but I can
wait until the final release of 2.6.22 in case they make it in and
refile as necessary. Thanks!

[Bug 124123] Please upgrade to 2.1.1 for support of 8400M in Gutsy

2007-07-04 Thread Darren Albers
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-nv

Version 2.1.1 of the nv driver was released earlier this month and it includes
support for the 8400M G chipsets
http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/xorg-announce/2007-July/000317.html

The 2.1.1 package is already available in Debian Unstable:
http://packages.debian.org/unstable/x11/xserver-xorg-video-nv

Of course this should be filed under wishlist and I will change that as
soon as I hit submit ;-)
