[Bug 127504] Window list applet size does not maximize
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel Gutsy Tribe-2 + current updates: Please describe the problem: Window list applet size does not maximize, even if there is free room on the panel which could be used for maximizing window list (see attached screenshot). Steps to reproduce: 1. Add window list applet to your panel 2. Add for example drivemount applet right beside it 3. Add system notification area right beside drivemount applet 4. Open about 10 different (!) applications so that you have many shown in window list applet 5. Open for example banshee and rhythmbox that there are two more icons in notification area and drivemount applet is automatically moved a bit to the left 6. Close banshee and rhythmbox so that notification area applet is resized a bit to the right Actual results: Window list applet does not maximize automatically so that drivemount applet is NOT moved a bit to the right. That means there will remain empty unused space which should be used by window list applet. This happens whether drivemount applet is located left from notification area or the other way round. Expected results: Window list applet should ALWAYS maximize its size automatically. That means it should move not locked applets beside so that window list applet can maximize its size! [Bug 26436] Re: gtkmozembed crashs with python
The problem appears to be related to difference between Firefox and Seamonkey (originally known as Mozilla). I've been tracking this bug across other distributions, including Fedora 7 and CentOS 5 and can confirm the issue is not specific to Unbuntu. The Segmentation Fault occurs when a show_all call is made to a parent window (such as self.parent.show_all()) The F7 release of gnome-python2-gtkmozembed (equivalent to the Ubuntu package in question) shows the python module itself being linked to the firefox libraries: ldd /usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/gtk-2.0/gtkmozembed.so libgtkembedmoz.so = /usr/lib/firefox-2.0.0.5/libgtkembedmoz.so (0x00be5000) libxpcom.so = /usr/lib/firefox-2.0.0.5/libxpcom.so (0x00ce5000) libxpcom_core.so = /usr/lib/firefox-2.0.0.5/libxpcom_core.so (0x00e63000) If you install the seamonkey package (the new name for the mozilla project is seamonkey so we're really just talking about the original software from the mozilla project) and simply swap paths temporarily: mv /usr/lib/firefox-2.0.0.5 /usr/lib/firefox-2.0.0.5.off ln -s /usr/lib/seamokey-1.1.3 /usr/lib/firefox-2.0.0.5 The code will work immediately. Python therefore needs its gtkmozembed module compiled against seamonkey, not firefox, in order to work. You may or may not still need the LD_LIBRARY_PATH export (I don't have an Ubuntu box to verify) but my guess is you won't. Best of luck. [Bug 127082] Re: Kmilo doesn't properly adjust volume
At first I was following a how-to of someone with a similar notebook - http://www.caiacoa.de/wiki/index.php/Samsung_R40-T2050_Chasubi The difference is, that I have a R40-T2050-Devron and lspci reports a different sound hardware: 00:14.2 Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc SB600 Azalia It is working out of the box with Feisty 7.04, but the volume was tuned extremely low, so I first did not realize there was a very faint whisper. KMilo could mute it correctly. But the percentage would only switch between 0 and 10%. Then I played around with KMix and turned up every knob I could get hold of. Then I suddenly had all the sound I wanted. This time KMilo was jumping from 100 to 90% or from 87 to 67 ... But I cannot remember if it really changed the volume ... at least it did not alter the front channel in KMix. I assigned the very same buttons to KMix which had no effect at first. Then I uninstalled KMilo, because it in addition would not show changes in brightness too. Even though the package was gone, my machine still showed KMilos OSD ... so I did a soft reboot. Afterward the special keys did not work at all. But this morning (after switching the notebook completely off and on again) it works great. There is just no OSD. It is only strange, that KMix cannot mute the headphones. Even on 0% I still hear it playing without straining my ears. But then I just pull the plug. -- Kmilo doesn't properly adjust volume https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/127082 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 127505] YEARFRAC function returns incorrect results for some dates

After doing so everything was fine. I installed the restricted ATI driver again (no Live-System now) and did not have any problems with it. [Bug 10856] Re: use mirrorselect or something similar
this bug is a bit outdated, and at least partially fixed. In the previous comment, CC.ubuntu.com stands for country code -- eg, if I install Ubuntu and tell it I'm in China, it will default to cn.archive.ubuntu.com. Then, if I go to software sources and want to change it, there is a button that allows me to ping all mirrors and select the fastest -- which is what I originally requested. Arguably, this pinging could be done automagically on install time. But whether or not to do it is a strategic decision; as the original requester, I'm quite satisfied that we simply have the option of doing it from the UI. -- use mirrorselect or something similar https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/10856 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Yes, one has to read the last 3 entries together, not just the last one. 1.1.0-b4-3ubuntu1 did contain a number of fixes to allow compilation of package and kernel module. This was made by ubuntu. 1.1.0-b4-4 contains the same type of fixes, but made by the debian ralink team 1.1.0-b4-4ubuntu1 replaces the ubuntu changes in favor of the debian ones. Perhaps I should say: * Replaces Ubuntu kernel fixes from version 1.1.0-b4-3ubuntu1 with equivalent Debian fixes Would that be clearer? Please let me know before I change the changelog accordingly. [Bug 127501] Re: democracy exits unexpectedly without notice
Sorry, I read your bug too fast the first time, and missed steps (4) and (5)! One possible reason for this to occur is that you have config files generated by the 0.9.8 version which aren't properly readable by the older 0.9.2.1. Can you move the existing config (~/.democracy) out of the way (to ~/.democracy-backup, for example), and see if that fixes it? ** Changed in: democracyplayer (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid = New -- democracy exits unexpectedly without notice https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/127501 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 116870] Re: [gutsy] GSlice: g_thread_init() Warning messages
I'm have no doubt that it will be fixed prior to the final release thankyou. I would have thought that obvious as have read through the various milestones schedule up to the first beta. Gosh, such 'warnings' pop up all the time in the forums, I'm a little surprised that someone should feel the need to do so in launchpad. In fact, for your information I run parallel installs one stable and one for testing. I was merely curious as to the reason that given this bug / is marked as serious / effects a range of applications and an upstream fix is currently available, that a downstream fix is not scheduled for another two months. [Bug 127523] services management in ubuntu is ugly and incomplete
Public bug reported: The idea of managing services in linux and in ubuntu is disperse, for various reasons: * services.msc is a centralized tool to manage services in windows, includes list of services with its current state, automatic, manual or disabled state for each one and a short description. * There is no centraliced way to add, remove, enable/disable and check state in ubuntu. To see wich services are installed you need to list /etc/init.d; to start or stop a service you need to call update-rc.d (what an ugly and complicated name for an executable that may be used several times a day); there is no way to see the current status of a service with a short and clear command, like service status smb in other distros. * Graphical interfaces do not work well with services, some services are not shown, other times the service status is not shown properly and other times starting/stopping/restarting has no effect. * There is no way either to see service dependencies, like you can do in gentoo. Well, this sounds some confusing and inaccurate because I am not developer and don't know all details, but the facts is that I find very complicated to deal with services in linux, while in windows I go to services.msc and everything I want to do I can do there. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- services management in ubuntu is ugly and incomplete https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/127523 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 118505] Re: System hangs when using Merlin XU870 UMTS card (airprime driver)
i have the same problem on Thinkpad T60. Simply doing cat /dev/ttyUSB0 on two terminals hangs system. It seems that linux 2.6.21 has some fixes for Merlin XU870 - http://crypto.riken.go.jp/pub/linux/kernel.org/kernel/v2.6/snapshots/patch-2.6.21-rc3-git6.log -- System hangs when using Merlin XU870 UMTS card (airprime driver) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/118505 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 127429] Re: 'Install with driver update CD' is not localized
Confirming this bug. Reproduce: Boot from latest Gutsy image, change language. Menu still shows install with driver ... in English. I guess this is only a problem of a mal formated translation string not being replaced. ** Changed in: debian-installer (Ubuntu) Assignee: Jim Qode = (unassigned) Status: Incomplete = Confirmed -- 'Install with driver update CD' is not localized https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/127429 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 127528] keyboard layout chooser not localized
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: debian-installer Maybe this is a feature rather than a bug but in my eyes it breaks user convenience: When booting the live cd you will normally choose a different language. Afterwards nearly all is localized except the keyboard layout chooser which still presents the names of the layouts in English. Actually I think that this should definitely be localized too, so after changing the language presenting names of keyboard layouts in a language-specific form. ** Affects: debian-installer (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- keyboard layout chooser not localized https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/127528 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
