[Bug 99693] Re: knetworkmanager icon weirdness after resume

2007-07-22 Thread cossidhon
I can confirm this is still the case. It's kind of hard to produce a
screenshot of it, 'cause it's only happening during a short period of
time while the machine is resuming. Running Feisty Final with
knetworkmanager 0.1 on KDE 3.5.7

[Bug 112899] Re: network-manager is not able to rescan networks on demand

2007-07-22 Thread Bump
Well, why is kubuntu using network-manager then?

ubuntu uses it too, and ubuntu should have the re-scan option as well.

As I see, the network manager is the best program for network
management, both wired and unwired, but I am not a developer to decide
that. I think that limits are caused by developer's decision, not by
technical issues.

[Bug 127504] Window list applet size does not maximize

2007-07-22 Thread felix.rommel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Gutsy Tribe-2 + current updates:

Please describe the problem:
Window list applet size does not maximize, even if there is free room on the
panel which could be used for maximizing window list (see attached screenshot).

Steps to reproduce:
1. Add window list applet to your panel
2. Add for example drivemount applet right beside it
3. Add system notification area right beside drivemount applet
4. Open about 10 different (!) applications so that you have many shown in
window list applet
5. Open for example banshee and rhythmbox that there are two more icons in
notification area and drivemount applet is automatically moved a bit to the
left
6. Close banshee and rhythmbox so that notification area applet is resized a
bit to the right

Actual results:
Window list applet does not maximize automatically so that drivemount applet is
NOT moved a bit to the right. That means there will remain empty unused space
which should be used by window list applet. This happens whether drivemount
applet is located left from notification area or the other way round.

Expected results:
Window list applet should ALWAYS maximize its size automatically. That means it
should move not locked applets beside so that window list applet can maximize
its size! Ohterwise there will be unused space on the panel!

Does this happen every time?
Yes

[Bug 127503] Shift0xea found in configuration database is not a valid value for keybinding move_to_workspace_left

2007-07-22 Thread VF
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: metacity

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ metacity --replace
Window manager warning: Shift0xea found in configuration database is not a
valid value for keybinding move_to_workspace_left
Window manager warning: Shift0xe9 found in configuration database is not a

I have a left arrow key and a right arrow key on my keyboard, the gnome
keybindings capplet lets me configure them to move to the workspace left and
the workspace right just fine. It also lets me configure 'move window to
workspace right/left' to Shift+Left or Right, but Metacity doesn't seem to look
this. I guess it doesn't like raw keycodes in combination with modifiers? I
don't know.

(I have also manually adjusted the gconf settings for the Compiz Cube

[Bug 26436] Re: gtkmozembed crashs with python

2007-07-22 Thread Steve Castellotti
The problem appears to be related to difference between Firefox and
Seamonkey (originally known as Mozilla).

I've been tracking this bug across other distributions, including Fedora 7 and
CentOS 5 and can confirm the issue is not specific to Unbuntu. The Segmentation
Fault occurs when a show_all call is made to a parent window (such as
self.parent.show_all())

The F7 release of gnome-python2-gtkmozembed (equivalent to the Ubuntu
package in question) shows the python module itself being linked to the
firefox libraries:

ldd /usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/gtk-2.0/gtkmozembed.so

libgtkembedmoz.so = /usr/lib/firefox-2.0.0.5/libgtkembedmoz.so (0x00be5000)
libxpcom.so = /usr/lib/firefox-2.0.0.5/libxpcom.so (0x00ce5000)
libxpcom_core.so = /usr/lib/firefox-2.0.0.5/libxpcom_core.so (0x00e63000)

If you install the seamonkey package (the new name for the mozilla project is
seamonkey so we're really just talking about the original software from the
mozilla project) and simply swap paths temporarily:

mv /usr/lib/firefox-2.0.0.5 /usr/lib/firefox-2.0.0.5.off
ln -s /usr/lib/seamokey-1.1.3 /usr/lib/firefox-2.0.0.5

The code will work immediately. Python therefore needs its gtkmozembed module
compiled against seamonkey, not firefox, in order to work.

You may or may not still need the LD_LIBRARY_PATH export (I don't have an
Ubuntu box to verify) but my guess is you won't.

Best of luck.

Cheers

[Bug 127082] Re: Kmilo doesn't properly adjust volume

2007-07-22 Thread private_lock
At first I was following a how-to of someone with a similar notebook -
http://www.caiacoa.de/wiki/index.php/Samsung_R40-T2050_Chasubi

The difference is, that I have a R40-T2050-Devron and lspci reports a
different sound hardware:

00:14.2 Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc SB600 Azalia

It is working out of the box with Feisty 7.04, but the volume was tuned
extremely low, so I first did not realize there was a very faint
whisper. KMilo could mute it correctly. But the percentage would only
switch between 0 and 10%.

Then I played around with KMix and turned up every knob I could get hold
of. Then I suddenly had all the sound I wanted. This time KMilo was
jumping from 100 to 90% or from 87 to 67 ... But I cannot remember if it
really changed the volume ... at least it did not alter the front
channel in KMix.

I assigned the very same buttons to KMix which had no effect at first.
Then I uninstalled KMilo, because it in addition would not show changes
in brightness too. Even though the package was gone, my machine still
showed KMilos OSD ... so I did a soft reboot. Afterward the special keys
did not work at all. But this morning (after switching the notebook
completely off and on again) it works great. There is just no OSD.

It is only strange, that KMix cannot mute the headphones. Even on 0% I
still hear it playing without straining my ears. But then I just pull
the plug.

[Bug 127505] YEARFRAC function returns incorrect results for some dates

2007-07-22 Thread jimgknga
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

=YEARFRAC(3.1.1958;1.1.1996;1) returns the identical result as
=YEARFRAC(3.1.1958;12.31.1995;1) when, in fact, the two End dates
are one day apart.

This fails whenever the End date is in a leap year (New Year's Eve/Day
is convenient) and the Start date is not in a leap year but is later
than 28-Feb of its year. For example, Start dates between 1.1.1958
and 2.28.1958 in the above examples work correctly.

The Microsoft Office Excel equivalent works correctly without this bug.

I found this on Mac OS X 10.4.10 using NeoOffice 2.1 Patch 7; but, re-
created it on Windows XP SP 2 using openoffice.org 2.2.1. It also fails
on the Linux version I'm running Ubuntu Feisty Fawn with
openoffice.org 2.2.0.

[Bug 127509] notification message doesn't follow icon when this one moves

Public bug reported:

This happens for example when new updates are available :
a message is displayed below the notification area and says New updates

This bug is probably from the notification-deamon package but i'm not

[Bug 127511] Ubuntu install after fglrx install under live-system without reboot - inappropriate xorg.conf

2007-07-22 Thread Fatal
Public bug reported:

Hi,

System:
ThinkPad T60 2007-ZT6
(graphic card: ATI Mobility RADEON X1400 128MB GDDR-SDRAM)

Reproduction:
1. Booting Ubuntu 7.04 from DVD (AMD64)
2. Install restricted ATI driver (fglrx). Do NOT reboot.
3. Install Ubuntu

Symptom:
X-Server startup fails while booting fresh installed system. No GDM, just the
console.

Solution:
I do not have much experiance with linux.
For me reconfiguring xorg.conf with sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg as
described in http://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/XServer_einrichten worked fine.
After doing so everything was fine. I installed the restricted ATI driver again
(no Live-System now) and did not have any problems with it.

For me it seems that the Ubuntu install process takes the already modified
xorg.conf from the fglrx-install but does not perform the necessary
operations normally done by rebooting the system after fglrx install.
But that's just an assumption...

Greets Fatal

[Bug 10856] Re: use mirrorselect or something similar

2007-07-22 Thread Lalo Martins
this bug is a bit outdated, and at least partially fixed.

In the previous comment, CC.ubuntu.com stands for country code --
eg, if I install Ubuntu and tell it I'm in China, it will default to
cn.archive.ubuntu.com.

Then, if I go to software sources and want to change it, there is a
button that allows me to ping all mirrors and select the fastest --
which is what I originally requested.

Arguably, this pinging could be done automagically on install time. But
whether or not to do it is a strategic decision; as the original
requester, I'm quite satisfied that we simply have the option of doing
it from the UI.

[Bug 127514] 5-button mouse (Logitech LX7) not working properly

2007-07-22 Thread lalaland
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 7.04. By default, the back and forward buttons (4 and 5) on my
Logitech LX7 are mapped to middle-click and right-click. I had to change my
xorg.conf according to:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=1295974postcount=13

Why does the xorg.conf file care about the number of buttons, anyway?

2007-07-22 Thread Freddy Martinez
Fabio, if the extensions use JavaScript to talk to Firefox (which many
many extensions do) then it would not work after an upgrade. My guess
here is that during the upgrade JS went from enabled to disabled or
something similar. As a side note to Alex, I grabbed the 2.0.0.5 .deb
off packages.ubuntu.com and I can not reproduce with one extension. If
you want me to try more, please ping me on IRC.

[Bug 85370] Re: amd64: Random system hangs and mouse issues with 6.10 (cpufreq related?)

2007-07-22 Thread Sense Hofstede
I think it isn't a 64bit issue, but an AMD problem. My brother doesn't
have this problem at an Intel laptop, and this also isn't a problem at
an Intel desktop. They're both 32bit. At an old AMD Duron 1000mHz I also
have this problem. I think this is a kernel problem, which is also in
other distributions, since I've got the same problem with Fedora 7 32bit
at an AMD64 (and Fedora/Red Hat modifies his kernel significant).

Everything worked flawlessly since live boot-up without configuring and/or
installing anything.

OK, let's go for option two. How about you whip up a script to make

[Bug 127518] CTRL+left/right jumps to space chars, only

2007-07-22 Thread lalaland
Public bug reported:

This is especially inconvenient for URLs because there you can only jump
between the beginning and the end. Under Windows it jumps to non-
alphanumeric chars, so you can jump to each part of the URL (. for
subdomains, / for path, and - for multiple connected words like
hello-there).

Could you please improve the default behavior, so it's more like in
Windows?

[Bug 127519] KMailCVT Freezes when importing from Evolution 2.x

2007-07-22 Thread William Hood
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kmailcvt

This has apparently been around for a while, but strangely I do not see
a bug on this.

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=324816

If you use KMailCVT to import from evolution 2.x, it will import 1
folder and then freeze. The gnome system monitor shows the kmailcvt
process taking up resources, but nothing beyond the first folder becomes
visible in kmail/kontact.

To repro:
1. Start with a user account for which evolution has been actually used for
some time (as opposed to faking test data).
2. Launch Kontact.
3. Select File - Import Messeges...
4. Choose Import Evolution 2.x Local Mails and Folder Structure
5. The file open dialog should come up on the correct directory. In case it
doesn't, it is ~/.evolution/mail/local.
6. Click OK. The import will begin and it will behave as described above.

[Bug 127397] Re: Merge rt2500 1.1.0-b4-4 from Debian unstable

2007-07-22 Thread Cesare Tirabassi
Yes, one has to read the last 3 entries together, not just the last one.

1.1.0-b4-3ubuntu1 did contain a number of fixes to allow compilation of
package and kernel module. This was made by ubuntu.

1.1.0-b4-4 contains the same type of fixes, but made by the debian
ralink team

1.1.0-b4-4ubuntu1 replaces the ubuntu changes in favor of the debian
ones.

Perhaps I should say:

 * Replaces Ubuntu kernel fixes from version 1.1.0-b4-3ubuntu1 with
equivalent Debian fixes

Would that be clearer? Please let me know before I change the changelog
accordingly.

Thanks.

[Bug 127501] Re: democracy exits unexpectedly without notice

2007-07-22 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Sorry, I read your bug too fast the first time, and missed steps (4) and
(5)!

One possible reason for this to occur is that you have config files
generated by the 0.9.8 version which aren't properly readable by the
older 0.9.2.1. Can you move the existing config (~/.democracy) out of
the way (to ~/.democracy-backup, for example), and see if that fixes it?

[Bug 127520] Gnome-power-manager doesn't see AC power is disconnected

2007-07-22 Thread Andrea Colangelo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Under Gutsy Tribe 3, if I boot with AC power and then I disconnect,
gnome-power-manager doesn't recognizes it and shows (Computer is running
on AC power). Instead, if I boot up powered by battery, gnome-power-
manager always recognizes and shows the right state (even after several
AC power connect-and-disconnect).

For the first situation (boot under AC, then AC disconnected), cat
/proc/acpi/ac_adapter/state shows:

state: off-line

and cat /proc/acpi/battery/state confirms:

present: yes
capacity state: ok
charging state: discharging
present rate:2620 mA
remaining capacity: 3641 mAh
present voltage: 11653 mV

Anyway, screen luminosity doesn't change when I disconnect or reconnect

[Bug 116870] Re: [gutsy] GSlice: g_thread_init() Warning messages

2007-07-22 Thread Dave Underwood
I'm have no doubt that it will be fixed prior to the final release
thankyou.

I would have thought that obvious as have read through the various
milestones schedule up to the first beta.

Not to mention that I'm well aware of the unstable nature of alpha
releases. Gosh, such 'warnings' pop up all the time in the forums, I'm a
little surprised that someone should feel the need to do so in
launchpad.

In fact, for your information I run parallel installs one stable and one
for testing.

I was merely curious as to the reason that given this bug / is marked as
serious / effects a range of applications and an upstream fix is
currently available, that a downstream fix is not scheduled for another
two months.

I would consider an informative response as part of furthering my
understanding of the development process.

As a result I look forward to a constructive response.

[Bug 127523] services management in ubuntu is ugly and incomplete

2007-07-22 Thread Bump
Public bug reported:

The idea of managing services in linux and in ubuntu is disperse, for
various reasons:

* services.msc is a centralized tool to manage services in windows, includes
list of services with its current state, automatic, manual or disabled state
for each one and a short description.

* There is no centraliced way to add, remove, enable/disable and check state in
ubuntu. To see wich services are installed you need to list /etc/init.d; to
start or stop a service you need to call update-rc.d (what an ugly and
complicated name for an executable that may be used several times a day); there
is no way to see the current status of a service with a short and clear
command, like service status smb in other distros.

* Graphical interfaces do not work well with services, some services are
not shown, other times the service status is not shown properly and
other times starting/stopping/restarting has no effect.

* There is no way either to see service dependencies, like you can do in
gentoo.

Well, this sounds some confusing and inaccurate because I am not
developer and don't know all details, but the facts is that I find very
complicated to deal with services in linux, while in windows I go to
services.msc and everything I want to do I can do there.

Sorry, the input file is either wrong or not supported by bcm43xx-fwcutter.
This file has an unknown MD5sum a58843b5ee79d015adf8c54178186487.
dpkg: error processing bcm43xx-fwcutter (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 255
Errors were encountered while processing:
 bcm43xx-fwcutter
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
$

I reinstalled Feisty, got the same error message, completely removed
bcm43xx-fwcutter (and the firmware file it placed in /tmp) and then
installed the package again and it went through fine. (I've since
reinstalled Gutsy) So it appears the place the script is getting the
firmware from isn't all that reliable, perhaps?

[Bug 113260] Re: latest update to inadyn

2007-07-22 Thread Fopper
OpenDNS has a version
(https://www.opendns.com/account/ddns_files/inadyn.source.v1.99.zip)
with support for SSL. Maybe it is also possible to give a preconfigured
inadyn.conf for the most common used services to be used with Inadyn
(DynDNS, OpenDNS, etc)

[Bug 127399] Re: bogus background command often causes shell to exit

2007-07-22 Thread Zygmunt Krynicki
Bash is not using python but python is invoked from bash's
command_not_found handler (command-not-found is obviously implemented in
python). This may be a python issue of some sort but is still does not
explain why bash is exiting.

[Bug 127525] Sony VAIO FS115 ACPI errors, esp. on hibernate

2007-07-22 Thread lalaland
Public bug reported:

I have a Sony VAIO FS115 with Ubuntu 7.04.
Output of uname -a:
Linux schleppi 2.6.20-16-generic #2 SMP Thu Jun 7 20:19:32 UTC 2007 i686
GNU/Linux

I get a very strange boot logo when hibernating. At first, the normal
logo appears, but then a big green bar appears on the screen. (I'll
attach a photo).

Also, I don't know if this should happen or not, but when hibernating,
there are strange messages on shutdown and boot-up, including a two
errors and an occasional second error which seems to normally happen on
2nd boot-up when hibernating and seems to make the power button not
work. I'll try to attach photos of the messages.

Maybe this snippet from syslog is interesting:

[Bug 127429] Re: 'Install with driver update CD' is not localized

2007-07-22 Thread Caspar Clemens Mierau
Confirming this bug.

Reproduce:
Boot from latest Gutsy image, change language. Menu still shows install with
driver ... in English. I guess this is only a problem of a mal formated
translation string not being replaced.

[Bug 127528] keyboard layout chooser not localized

2007-07-22 Thread Caspar Clemens Mierau
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: debian-installer

Maybe this is a feature rather than a bug but in my eyes it breaks user
convenience:

When booting the live cd you will normally choose a different language.
Afterwards nearly all is localized except the keyboard layout chooser
which still presents the names of the layouts in English. Actually I
think that this should definitely be localized too, so after changing
the language presenting names of keyboard layouts in a language-specific
form.

** Affects: debian-installer (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
