[Bug 136527] Please sync libspf2 (universe) from Debian Unstable (Main)

2007-09-01 Thread Scott Kitterman
Public bug reported:

Changelog since last Gutsy version:
libspf2 (1.2.5.dfsg-3) unstable; urgency=low

  * 22_spfquery_fallback_segfault.dpatch: Fix fallback-related segfault in
spfquery (Closes: #430414). Thanks to Robert Millan.
  * Correct debian/copyright (Closes: #433047). Thanks to Julian Mehnle.
  * A second patch from Robert split into three:
* 40_permanent_include_errors.dpatch: Make permanent errors in
  processing an include: directive cause the parent evaluation to return
  a permanent error as well (Closes: #435139).
* 41_none_not_neutral.dpatch: Use a diffent explanation for
  SPF_RESULT_NONE than the one for SPF_RESULT_NEUTRAL (Closes: #435140).
  * 42_empty_sender.dpatch: Use the HELO identity in MAIL FROM checks if
the sender address has been set to the empty string (Closes: #431239).
  * debian/control: Add XS-Vcs-* fields.

[Bug 136529] Can't log in after upgrading

2007-09-01 Thread Adam Petaccia
Public bug reported:

I upgraded from Feisty Fawn to Gusty, and now I can't log in! Both default
gnome and failsafe gnome play log in sounds (after I installed a pulseaudio
compat library, this was not done automatically), but show nothing. remotely
launching an xterm on DISPLAY 0 gives me something to work with, and
gnome-session has gotten far enough to load my theme, but not much else
(including metacity / compiz).
Not too many programs will start due to dbus errors (can not connect to bus),
and the following is in .xsession-errors (although I've tried many times, I
can't pin down the name of the program):

[Bug 135141] Re: Gutsy: Intel should be preferred over 810

2007-09-01 Thread Travis Reitter
My laptop should also default to the intel X.org driver, too, I
believe. Or at least 915resolution should be installed by default.
Otherwise, I'm forced to 1024x768 on a native 1280x800 display (note
that it's also a distorted aspect ratio, which is even more annoying). I
was using the incorrect resolution the last few weeks, since I didn't
realize either solution - X was just refusing my resolution
configuration, so I thought I was out of luck.

As far as the Compiz/xv video problem, I have that with both the i810
and the intel driver, so that isn't a regression in my case (but a
significant bug nonetheless; I'll file in the appropriate other bug(s)).

[Bug 131233] Re: WPA - network-manager keeps asking for password

2007-09-01 Thread Mike
Hmm. I reverted to the feisty version of network-manager
(0.6.4-6ubuntu7) and to the feisty version of network-manager-gnome
(0.6.4-6ubuntu7), and the network manager now seems to be remembering my
WPA key on a persistent liveUSB drive. So, maybe there was no issue
with feisty. Maybe this issue was introduced in the gutsy changes.

2007-09-01 Thread Travis Reitter
Sorry - this was a (confused) duplicate of #135141. Switching my X.org

[Bug 122979] Re: [aiglx][intel][r300] Video playback is buggy under Compiz

2007-09-01 Thread Travis Reitter
This doesn't seem solved for me, either.

On an i945GM, in up-to-date Gutsy, if I turn on Compiz, video apps crash
by default. If I change the Gstreamer video properties to use Xv, they
don't crash, but the video quality is bad (pixelated) and unaccelerated.
This is one of the biggest reasons I've turned off Desktop Effects (but
I really want to keep it on!).

The behavior is exactly the same for me whether I'm using the i810 or
intel video driver.

[Bug 84591] Re: feisty 20070210/herd5 persistent mode doesn't work

2007-09-01 Thread Mike
I reverted to the feisty version of network-manager (0.6.4-6ubuntu7) and
to the feisty version of network-manager-gnome (0.6.4-6ubuntu7), and the
network manager now seems to be remembering my WPA key on a persistent
liveUSB drive. So, at least on my system, I'd say persistence seems to
be working fine. I don't know if the umount issue is related to the
persistence issue, but that umount issue has been given medium priority.
So, hopefully that will be fixed by the time Gutsy is released. Even if
it is not, reverting to the edgy versions of the upstart files seems to
fix that issue. So, it may be that you can get a version of Gutsy
working with persistence by simply removing the gutsy version of these
two network manager files and installing the feisty versions (while you
are booted in persistent mode on a liveUSB) and also reverting in the
same way on the upstart files.

[Bug 84591] Re: feisty 20070210/herd5 persistent mode doesn't work

2007-09-01 Thread Mike
So, making those changes while booted in persistent gutsy fixes those
two remaining issues for me; meaning, at least on my system, they don't
appear to be persistence issues, and gutsy's persistence seems to be
working fine on my system. I suppose I'll keep using to see if issues
crop up. But, by definition, if persistence wasn't working, I shouldn't
be able to modify those couple packages and have the changes stick.
Definitely would be interesting to hear from others, though.

The test log, which is intended to be sufficient to diagnose most
failures, can be found below. However, in case this is not

[Bug 103992] Re: libapache2-mod-geoip cannot be loaded because API module structure `geoip_module' in file /usr/lib/apache2/modules/mod_geoip.so is garbled

2007-09-01 Thread lazd
That was the problem, I just figured that out then read your post lol.
Installed apxs2 and it worked fine. Both 1.1.8 and 1.2.0 built
perfectly, I had to do some funny stuff with httpd.conf to get it to
complete the script (it needed an existing LoadModule statement, so I
added one), but it worked.

Now there's another problem: The module isn't populating the apache
notes table properly.

I've installed this module on another server recently and it was a
breeze (and I had to compile EVERYTHING), so I'm not new to this, but I
might be forgetting a step.

I am sure the module loads and I can get output from it, but it doesn't
geolocate.

apache_note(GEOIP_COUNTRY_CODE); returns '--' and all other notes
return null (note could not be retrieved).

Any ideas?

[Bug 135462] Re: package kdm 4:3.5.7-1ubuntu15 failed to install/upgrade: dpkg

2007-09-01 Thread rkelly
After reboot KDM refused to start.
I fixed the problem by running dselect from the commandline:
First select option 4 to fix any leftover configurations.
Then select option 3 to (re)install kdm, or any other package that still had to
get upgraded.
What puzzles me is that the system now states I have kdm 4:3.5.7-1ubuntu16
installed?

[Bug 132716] Re: ATI Driver Gets Black Screen on Radeon 7500 Mobile (Regression)

2007-09-01 Thread alistairi
Hallo,

My system is updated to todays state (ie 1/Sept). I still have this
problem. By the way this means I have to do a hard restart, I cant get
out of it with ctrl-alt-backspace.

I followed the advice from Timo Aaltonen above:

1. Re-enable AGPFASTREWRITE and restart X.
Result: black screen
Reboot machine into recoverz mode

2. Disable loading of DRI module and start X
Result: black screen
Reboot machine into recoverz mode

3. Rename xorg.conf as xorg.bak and start X
Result: X starts successfullz but Gnome gives an error message on trzing to set
some properties.

Of course now mz German kezboard is a US kezboard and mz lefthanded
mouse is a righthanded mouse ...

4. I don|t know what to do about MonitorLayout, maybe you can give some
more instructions here

[Bug 135310] Re: System - Help and support entry's French translation should be enhanced

2007-09-01 Thread Bruno Patri
I'm agree that in most cases, support is an ugly Anglicism and it should be
translated by prise en charge, gestion, assistance, depending on the
context. But, IMHO, support could be acceptable here for these reasons :
- menus items have to be short, and it's hard to find something that is not
wordy, maybe aide et soutien... ;
- according to Sebastien support technique is commonly used in French, you
can consider that's a mistake, but you also can consider that's an evolution of
the language ;
- in French dictionaries (http://www.cnrtl.fr/lexicographie/support, for
instance); this is not the usual meaning of support, but it used to be
(etymology).

[Bug 110659] Re: suspend fails in feisty

2007-09-01 Thread gratefulfrog
Hi!
I'm sorry for the delay in replying. Below is the status of my tests on Gusty
tribe 5 Desktop CD for AMD64.

I boot from the CD, start the Desktop envt, then I try Suspend:
- system shuts down cleanly, i.e. disks stop and lights go out,
- keyboard seems to be dead, i.e. no key presses will wake the PC,
- mouse movement will NOT wake the PC,
- a mouse KEY PRESS will wake the PC cleanly! This is an improvement since all
previous Ubuntu versions.

Then I try Hibernate:
- the pc displays a screen of error messages (see attached digital picture of
screen),
- it then shuts down.
- keyboard seems to be dead, i.e. no key presses will wake the PC,
- mouse movement will NOT wake the PC,
- a mouse KEY PRESS will wake start a full reboot of the PC.

This is the best I could do!

As always, I continue to support Ubuntu and all free software movements in
every way that I can. I have brought Ubuntu to many PC's...
Let me know if there's anything more I can do to help!
Cheers,
GF.

My bad -- it seems my a shortcut was taken and the server was being

perfectly.

So this is not a bug, simply a case of using apxs to build an apache 2

[Bug 124125] Re: laptop-mode.conf inconsistency

2007-09-01 Thread Nic
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 127273 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/127273

This issue is really problematic. In fact, it diesn't matter is one
decides to enable laptop-mode on both the AC and the Battery or only on
the Battery. What I mean is that if the latop is booted unplugged,
laptop-mode won't start because it relies, as you said, on the
unplugging event to be turned on. As you said you need to manually run
this:

To use laptop-mode by default:

Code:

sudo gedit /etc/default/acpi-support

Scroll down change laptop-mode to true:

Code:

ENABLE_LAPTOP_MODE=true

For some reason, laptop-mode is only started when the AC is unplugged.
This might seem fine unless you bootup the laptop on the battery, in
which case laptop-mode never gets started. Thus, to enable laptop-mode
at boot (taken from a lost thread):

Code:

sudo update-rc.d laptop-mode multiuser

Couldn't laptop-mode be added to the init but still check is it is set
to true in the /etc/default/acpi-support file? This way at least,
when someone goes through the trouble of changing that file, laptop-mode
will indeed be activated!

2007-09-01 Thread Aurélien Couderc
Oops, excuse me, I've be reporting about another bug and I misread this
mail.
YES, THIS IS STILL AN ISSUE on my computer.

The system freezes just after grub when the splash boot option is
present. Symptoms are : I get a no signal message from my monitor and
the caps lock and scroll lock keyboard lights keep flashing.

I have the same problem with the live CDs, whether Feisy or Gutsy Tribe
5 all x86_64 (no problem with 32-bit versions).

Tell me if I can give more information or logs of the problem.

[Bug 68258] Re: HAL failed to hibernate

2007-09-01 Thread Marc Schumann
Fwiw...
I experienced the exact symptoms described here: hibernation works in edgy,
doesn't work any more after upgrading to feisty.
These days, I didn't get around doing a clean new install of feisty -- and
hibernation works now, on the same computer it didn't work on yesterday.
My personal conclusion is therefore that the update edgy-feisty broke it.

[Bug 86666] Re: Feisty crashes after grub, before boot process, if usplash is enabled (amd64)

2007-09-01 Thread Timo Jyrinki
Yep, did and it had finally crashed. Noticed that it first (after ca. 10
hours) had a blank screen but with monitor on, and after the night the
hdd had stopped writing new information and monitor was off. Compressed
with 7-zip (1.7MB against bzip2's 4.4MB).

Oh, and the command was naturally: sudo vbetool vbemode set 0x118
2vbetrace, if someone else is trying it out. Otherwise the information
is just printed on the screen.

Re: [Bug 131233] Re: WPA - network-manager keeps asking for password

2007-09-01 Thread fishor

reproduce this i tryed to connect AP two time. first time it asked a

perhaps we should close this bug report and I will open a new one only
for the ipw2200 and ipw3945 power management scripts.

[Bug 136545] Power management for intel wifi cards: ipw2200 and ipw3945 (fix included)

2007-09-01 Thread Nic
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: laptop-mode-tools

Laptop-mode scripts can be added to turn on power management features in
intel wifi cards: ipw2200 and ipw3945.

This is the procedure to create the appropriate scripts:

For both intel 3945 (ipw3945 driver) and 2200 (ipw2200 driver) cards:

First, create the helper function file (taken from largecat's post on
page 2 of this thread):

Code:

sudo gedit /etc/acpi/intelWifiPwr.sh

copy paste this code in the editor, save and exit.

Code:

#!/bin/bash
# Power saving setting for the Intel 3945 and 2200 wireless adaptor
#
# This script relies upon the name of the driver.

I3945_DRIVERNAME=ipw3945
I2200_DRIVERNAME=ipw2200

IWPRIV=/sbin/iwpriv
IWCONFIG=/sbin/iwconfig

SET_I3945_AC_PARMS=set_power 6
SET_I3945_BAT_PARMS=set_power 7

SET_I2200_AC_PARMS=power off
SET_I2200_BAT_PARMS=power on

#
# Find all the wireless devices using the supplied driver names.
# Place the interface names on the list WIFI_IFNAMES.
#
function findWifiIfsByDriver {
local DEVICE;
local LINK_TARGET;
WIFI_IFNAMES=

for DEVICE in /sys/class/net/*; do
if [ -d $DEVICE/wireless ]; then
# See if the driver for $DEVICE matches the supplied one by checking the link to
# the driver.
if [ -h $DEVICE/device/driver ]; then
LINK_TARGET=`readlink $DEVICE/device/driver | sed 's/.*\///'`

if [ $LINK_TARGET == $1 ]; then

# add the interface name to the list
WIFI_IFNAMES=$WIFI_IFNAMES `echo -n $DEVICE | sed
's/.*\///'`
fi
fi
fi
done
}

#
# Set all the adaptors using the supplied driver into the supplied
# power saving mode
#
# $1 - driver name
# $2 - power command
# $3 - power command arguments
#
function setWifiPwrSave {
local DEVICE;
findWifiIfsByDriver $1;

for DEVICE in $WIFI_IFNAMES; do
#   echo Would execute $2 $DEVICE $3
$2 $DEVICE $3
done
}

function intel3945_BatPwrSave {
setWifiPwrSave $I3945_DRIVERNAME $IWPRIV $SET_I3945_BAT_PARMS
}

function intel3945_AcPwrSave {
setWifiPwrSave $I3945_DRIVERNAME $IWPRIV $SET_I3945_AC_PARMS
}

function intel2200_BatPwrSave {
setWifiPwrSave $I2200_DRIVERNAME $IWCONFIG $SET_I2200_BAT_PARMS
}

function intel2200_AcPwrSave {
setWifiPwrSave $I2200_DRIVERNAME $IWCONFIG $SET_I2200_AC_PARMS
}

Then we will create 2 scripts. The first will run when the laptop is unplugged,
the later when it runs on AC.

On battery:

Code:

sudo gedit /etc/laptop-mode/batt-start/20-wireless-battery.sh

Then copy and paste this code into the editor, save and exit:

Code:

#!/bin/bash

# source the helper script
. /etc/acpi/intelWifiPwr.sh

# set Battery power saving
intel3945_BatPwrSave
intel2200_BatPwrSave

Make it executable:

Code:

sudo chmod +x /etc/laptop-mode/batt-start/20-wireless-battery.sh

On AC:

Code:

sudo gedit /etc/laptop-mode/batt-stop/20-wireless-ac.sh

Then copy and paste this code into the editor, save and exit:

Code:

#!/bin/bash

# source the helper script
. /etc/acpi/intelWifiPwr.sh

# set Battery power saving
intel3945_AcPwrSave
intel2200_AcPwrSave

Make it executable:

Code:

sudo chmod +x /etc/laptop-mode/batt-stop/20-wireless-ac.sh
