[Bug 136529] Can't log in after upgrading
Public bug reported: I upgraded from Feisty Fawn to Gusty, and now I can't log in! Both default gnome and failsafe gnome play log in sounds (after I installed a pulseaudio compat library, this was not done automatically), but show nothing. remotely launching an xterm on DISPLAY 0 gives me something to work with, and gnome-session has gotten far enough to load my theme, but not much else (including metacity / compiz). [Bug 135141] Re: Gutsy: Intel should be preferred over 810
My laptop should also default to the intel X.org driver, too, I believe. Or at least 915resolution should be installed by default. Otherwise, I'm forced to 1024x768 on a native 1280x800 display (note that it's also a distorted aspect ratio, which is even more annoying). I was using the incorrect resolution the last few weeks, since I didn't realize either solution - X was just refusing my resolution configuration, so I thought I was out of luck. As far as the Compiz/xv video problem, I have that with both the i810 and the intel driver, so that isn't a regression in my case (but a significant bug nonetheless; I'll file in the appropriate other bug(s)). ** Attachment added: My laptop's lspci -vvnn as root http://launchpadlibrarian.net/9085186/lspci-vvnn.txt -- Gutsy: Intel should be preferred over 810 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/135141 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hmm. [Bug 122979] Re: [aiglx][intel][r300] Video playback is buggy under Compiz
This doesn't seem solved for me, either. On an i945GM, in up-to-date Gutsy, if I turn on Compiz, video apps crash by default. If I change the Gstreamer video properties to use Xv, they don't crash, but the video quality is bad (pixelated) and unaccelerated. This is one of the biggest reasons I've turned off Desktop Effects (but I really want to keep it on!). The behavior is exactly the same for me whether I'm using the i810 or intel video driver. -- [aiglx][intel][r300] Video playback is buggy under Compiz https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/122979 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 84591] Re: feisty 20070210/herd5 persistent mode doesn't work
I reverted to the feisty version of network-manager (0.6.4-6ubuntu7) and to the feisty version of network-manager-gnome (0.6.4-6ubuntu7), and the network manager now seems to be remembering my WPA key on a persistent liveUSB drive. So, at least on my system, I'd say persistence seems to be working fine. I don't know if the umount issue is related to the persistence issue, but that umount issue has been given medium priority. So, hopefully that will be fixed by the time Gutsy is released. Even if it is not, reverting to the edgy versions of the upstart files seems to fix that issue. So, it may be that you can get a version of Gutsy working with persistence by simply removing the gutsy version of these two network manager files and installing the feisty versions (while you are booted in persistent mode on a liveUSB) and also reverting in the same way on the upstart files. -- feisty 20070210/herd5 persistent mode doesn't work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/84591 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 103992] Re: libapache2-mod-geoip cannot be loaded because API module structure `geoip_module' in file /usr/lib/apache2/modules/mod_geoip.so is garbled
That was the problem, I just figured that out then read your post lol. Installed apxs2 and it worked fine. Both 1.1.8 and 1.2.0 built perfectly, I had to do some funny stuff with httpd.conf to get it to complete the script (it needed an existing LoadModule statement, so I added one), but it worked. Now there's another problem: The module isn't populating the apache notes table properly. I've installed this module on another server recently and it was a breeze (and I had to compile EVERYTHING), so I'm not new to this, but I might be forgetting a step. I am sure the module loads and I can get output from it, but it doesn't geolocate. apache_note(GEOIP_COUNTRY_CODE); returns '--' and all other notes return null (note could not be retrieved). [Bug 135310] Re: System - Help and support entry's French translation should be enhanced
I'm agree that in most cases, support is an ugly Anglicism and it should be translated by prise en charge, gestion, assistance, depending on the context. But, IMHO, support could be acceptable here for these reasons : - menus items have to be short, and it's hard to find something that is not wordy, maybe aide et soutien... ; - according to Sebastien support technique is commonly used in French, you can consider that's a mistake, but you also can consider that's an evolution of the language ; - in French dictionaries (http://www.cnrtl.fr/lexicographie/support, for instance); this is not the usual meaning of support, but it used to be (etymology). Hi! I'm sorry for the delay in replying. Below is the status of my tests on Gusty tribe 5 Desktop CD for AMD64. I boot from the CD, start the Desktop envt, then I try Suspend: - system shuts down cleanly, i.e. disks stop and lights go out, - keyboard seems to be dead, i.e. no key presses will wake the PC, - mouse movement will NOT wake the PC, - a mouse KEY PRESS will wake the PC cleanly! This is an improvement since all previous Ubuntu versions. Then I try Hibernate: - the pc displays a screen of error messages (see attached digital picture of screen), - it then shuts down. - keyboard seems to be dead, i.e. no key presses will wake the PC, - mouse movement will NOT wake the PC, - a mouse KEY PRESS will wake start a full reboot of the PC. This is the best I could do! As always, I continue to support Ubuntu and all free software movements in every way that I can. I have brought Ubuntu to many PC's... [Bug 124125] Re: laptop-mode.conf inconsistency
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 127273 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/127273 This issue is really problematic. In fact, it diesn't matter is one decides to enable laptop-mode on both the AC and the Battery or only on the Battery. What I mean is that if the latop is booted unplugged, laptop-mode won't start because it relies, as you said, on the unplugging event to be turned on. As you said you need to manually run this: To use laptop-mode by default: Code: sudo gedit /etc/default/acpi-support Scroll down change laptop-mode to true: Code: ENABLE_LAPTOP_MODE=true For some reason, laptop-mode is only started when the AC is unplugged. This might seem fine unless you bootup the laptop on the battery, in which case laptop-mode never gets started. Thus, to enable laptop-mode at boot (taken from a lost thread): Code: sudo update-rc.d laptop-mode multiuser Couldn't laptop-mode be added to the init but still check is it is set to true in the /etc/default/acpi-support file? This way at least, when someone goes through the trouble of changing that file, laptop-mode will indeed be activated! Noticed that it first (after ca. 10 hours) had a blank screen but with monitor on, and after the night the hdd had stopped writing new information and monitor was off. Compressed with 7-zip (1.7MB against bzip2's 4.4MB). Oh, and the command was naturally: sudo vbetool vbemode set 0x118 2vbetrace, if someone else is trying it out. Otherwise the information is just printed on the screen. ** Attachment added: vbetrace.7z http://launchpadlibrarian.net/9085807/vbetrace.7z -- Feisty crashes after grub, before boot process, if usplash is enabled (amd64) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/8 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
