[Bug 66623] Re: warning: GRClosure invoking callback: already destroyed

2007-09-19 Thread Andy Owen
I believe that this issue (or a similar issue) is in gutsy. I was
receiving this message too.

Going into libglade2.rb, I edited it to include:

And it fixed the message. Note that I have no idea what I was doing, and
I haven't tested this properly (and given that I have two files which
should produce exactly the same parse tree, but behave differently), I
think some slightly more rigorous testing is needed

[Bug 141160] When remote desktop access is disabled, vino-session will still run

2007-09-19 Thread Martijn van de Streek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vino

I have disabled remote desktop access in vino-preferences, but still
something called "vino-session" (which doesn't have a manual page, btw)
is started, and keeps on running in the background, every time I login.

As far as I can see, it doesn't do anything but consume memory and an
occasional CPU cycle, and I think it shouldn't be started/running at all
unless remote desktop access is enabled.

[Bug 133385] Re: [gutsy] "nv" is not new enough to support my chipset (Quadro FX 570M), but is detected as the most appropriate display driver during installation

2007-09-19 Thread Tormod Volden
You can unsubscribe u-m-s (I can not unsubscribe other people). The
xserver-xorg-driver-nv can probably be closed, it would be a wishlist
item to have the driver support this card, but that must be left to
upstream to decide or fix.

It would be good if someone with this card could confirm that today's
daily (or the Beta) indeed picks the vesa driver and everything is fine.

[Bug 82147] Re: Kubuntu Feisty sound card selection

2007-09-19 Thread Toni Helenius
The problem has passed since I gave up the second sound card. But I
don't know then how hard is it to copy usable features from other
operating systems, here I mean MS Windows. There I can't disable
hardware I don't wish to use. Even to get to select the hardware, like a
soundcard to use would be great. This kind of usability things would
make xbuntus more humane! Some sort of solution, available to other than
a under-20-years-old-computer-literate-male would save the day.

I have not figured out the conditions under which this happens, but
sometimes liferea will overwrite edited feed names with the original

[Bug 17878] Re: hard disk being accessed every 4 sec.

2007-09-19 Thread Jeff Schroeder
Since bug 118303 has been resolved, there is another tool you can use.
It is called blktrace and has a wrapper script called btrace that will
spit out a (mostly) human readable format of what processes are eating
your disk up.

Type mount to see what volumes / partitions you have mounted. Here is an
example from my machine:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ mount
/dev/sda5 on / type ext3 (rw,noatime,errors=remount-ro)
proc on /proc type proc (rw,noexec, nosuid, nodev)
/sys on /sys type sysfs (rw,noexec,nosuid,nodev)
varrun on /var/run type tmpfs (rw,noexec,nosuid,nodev,mode=0755)
varlock on /var/lock type tmpfs (rw,noexec,nosuid,nodev,mode=1777)
udev on /dev type tmpfs (rw,mode=0755)
devshm on /dev/shm type tmpfs (rw)
devpts on /dev/pts type devpts (rw,gid=5,mode=620)
lrm on /lib/modules/2.6.22-11-generic/volatile type tmpfs (rw)
/dev/sda1 on /boot type ext3 (rw,noatime)
/dev/sda7 on /home type ext3 (rw,noatime)
securityfs on /sys/kernel/security type securityfs (rw)
binfmt_misc on /proc/sys/fs/binfmt_misc type binfmt_misc
(rw,noexec,nosuid,nodev)
debugfs on /sys/kernel/debug type debugfs (rw)

Since / is mounted on /dev/sda5, the actual device file is /dev/sda. Run 'sudo
btrace /dev/sda' it will spit out a list (edited for brevity) of what processes
are monopolizing your disk.

There's is literally *nothing* in the app that indicates what's wrong.
Saw this, installed libtunepimp5-mp3, and everything starts working.

2007-09-19 Thread Jeff Schroeder
system-config-samba is provided in gutsy in a usable condition. It
supports setting the security level to share. Perhaps a nautilus plugin
similar to nautilus-share can be written that interfaces with system-
config-samba and it can be included by default instead of nautilus-
share.

[Bug 12637] Re: LCD Brightness on Laptop Always Set Very Low at Boot

2007-09-19 Thread Robert Drake
I've been ignoring the problem for a while because I don't reboot often,
but I finally decided to check the bug again to see if any progress was
happening.

I tried setting vga=ask, the kernel asks what vga mode you want and you're
allowed to make your choice while the screen is bright.
after making the choice (doesn't matter which one, they all seem to work) you
see the "Kernel is Active" message after a second and the screen dims again.

right after that you see a [PCI] cannot allocate region (not sure what
it says after that, it flashes by real fast and it may or may not be
related, might be something specific to my machine)

The question I have is this: what changes between the 32bit boot code
and the 64bit boot code in regards to video at that stage.. it's very
early in the boot process so nothing should be poking anything, but on
the other hand it's possible they stored the brightness value in some
memory location that the kernel blows away during boot and it's not
video related at all.

If I get the chance, I'll start throwing "got here" kprintf's in the
kernel in places before "Kernel is Active" to see what I find.

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

I try with radeon driver and ati, but both drivers crash, i mean, i
can't see anything y tri this with de screen and graphics application,
but i have only problems with this...

In my Xorg.0.log i can read: Radeon: Direct Rendering doesn't support with
9600/9700.. or something like that...
I have a ATI 9550 256MB card...

When i try with the fglrx driver and xserver-xgl the 3D accelerations
works, but when i run firefox or something like (openoffice for
example), the screen go black and crash (i running Compiz Fusion)...

In mi xorg.conf i have this:
Section "Device"
Identifier "ATI Technologies Inc RV350 AS [Radeon 9550]"
Driver "radeon"
BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
EndSection

or

Section "Device"

or

I compile alsa version 1.0.15 rc2 with the following command ./configure

options snd-hda-intel model=3stack

to my /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base

[Bug 131983] Re: [gutsy] trackerd kills disk io

2007-09-19 Thread Avery Fay
I think this needs to be disabled by default in gutsy unless it really
improves over the next month (or whenever gutsy is supposed to be
released). I just upgraded from Feisty and my machine is almost
completely unusable. ":w" in vim on a small text file took around 45
seconds. This is a really unpleasant first impression of gutsy. I knew
enough to find out what was causing the slowdown and remove it, but I
think a lot of users will just decide that gutsy is really, really slow.

[Bug 141146] DPI is set incorrectly by new driver, even when DisplaySize is set in xorg.conf

2007-09-19 Thread Martijn van de Streek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

I have an ATi X700 in my laptop, and since the new "randr 1.2" driver,
the DPI for my monitor isn't set correctly anymore.

I'm using 1:6.7.192-4ubuntu1 currently.

My screen is 33cm x 21cm, at 1920x1200, which used to be calculated
correctly at 148x149dpi (or something close). Now it seems forced to 96,
which breaks font sizes severely.

Even adding "DisplaySize 330 210" to the Monitor section in the Xorg
config file doesn't help.

[Bug 136632] Re: lyx 1.5 extremely slow on Gutsy

2007-09-19 Thread Ergosys
I have noticed this bug too, and have noticed that adding the following
option to xorg.conf Device section(s) seems to work around it for the
most part:

  Option XaaNoOffscreenPixmaps "true"

Unfortunately this doesn't cure the molasses-slow scrolling, so for me
Lyx is not yet usable in 7.10.

[Bug 140839] Re: Cannot increase display brightness with hotkeys

2007-09-19 Thread nick
this is also a problem on the dell m1330 laptop model as well. fn+up
does not increase brightness, but fn+down does decrease. Software
changes are possible with no irregularities. This change though happened
not on 9/18 as previously mentioned but on 9/17´s round of updates.

[Bug 91056] Re: [Feisty] synaptic keypad lock button launches KDE or Gnome Help Center

2007-09-19 Thread JNowka
I have been playing around with 'scankey -s' a bit, testing differant
variations. I have finally figured out what is happening.

If you hit Fn + F1 it will emit the signal 0xe0 0x75 when the button is
pressed.

If you turn back on the touch pad it also emits the signal 0xe0 0x75.

So far into my investigation this is what I have gotten.

[Bug 141132] Re: [gutsy] strange freeze-up until mouse moves

2007-09-19 Thread Ryan Lortie
another discovery: everything that i have describe above is exactly the
same as if i click and hold the mouse button.

i suspect the problem is that the "mouse release" event isn't being
pushed through to the X server until the next mouse interrupt is
generated
