[Bug 118539] Re: [regression] acx does not load

2007-09-25 Thread bert07
Downloaded the daily build of 20070925-2 for i386. Didn't install it yet, but I
did run the live cd and I can say that the wireless is back for those who need
acx drivers.
Although it took a little bit of doing because it didn't work with my first
configuration; somehow the network manager did not load the new configuration.
I changed wep key hex to wep key ascii and then it did load the new
configuration. Alas my access point does not seem to understand ascii, so I
changed it back to wep key hex, and this time the network manager loaded the
configuration with the hex key.
Acx wireless is back in Gutsy!
Thank you all!

[Bug 145094] Terminal window not maximizing fully in compiz

2007-09-25 Thread Mandar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

It happens only with compiz. The terminal window does not fill up the

The gaps are clearly visible on left & right ends of the window. Even
the borders on left/right ends are missing.

[Bug 126369] Re: kernel disables irq after 10 minutes

2007-09-25 Thread Paul
I'm using the T61 with Debian Etch, Kernel 2.6.18-5-686 and I have the
exact same problem.

I could be wrong but it only appears to happen when the
wireless/bluetooth switch is ON. Otherwise everything appears stable. Do
others make the same observation?

I'm also setup for dual boot into XP (took Vista off the HD within 1
day). Sometimes the T61 boots into XP with an unresponsive keyboard and
trackpads. Plugging in an external keyboard seems to reset it and it
then works again. Again, in this case I'm talking about booting in XP.
Related issue (i.e. a hardware issue)?

[Bug 136777] Re: auto hibernate / auto shutdown doesn't work when battery power is critical or the battery is totally empty before

2007-09-25 Thread TJ
Confirmed. I thought it was my imagination but since an update about a
week ago (so, around 20th September 2007) gnome-power-manager doesn't
hibernate the PC when battery level gets to critical. This had been
working fine up to then and was in regular use.

I did a manual hibernate test from a fresh start, and it also fails.
Screen goes blank immediately, there's no hard disk activity as you'd
expect, and there is no way to interact with the PC (Ctrl+Alt+SysRq+K
tried to restart GDM).

There's not much in the log files for the battery-critical event. syslog
and daemon.log just show NetworkManager releasing and then re-
establishing the network lease, kern.log just shows the restart,
auth.log seems to show an hourly cron process at about the same time,
but I think that is coincidence. Here's what could be found:

=== auth.log ===

[Bug 145089] Gimp can not load files created by Olympus E510 digital camera

2007-09-25 Thread Matthew Geier
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gimp

jpeg import filter produces the following error dialogue.

Opening 'P9251684.JPG' failed: Plug-In could not open image

Appears to be known issue in libexif. Also appears to have been fixed upstream.
Until this fix gets into Feisty I can not open files created by my digital
camera in Gimp.
All other image applications I have installed (gthumb, fspot, etc) do open

[Bug 145087] Photo time incorrect in f-spot display

2007-09-25 Thread Kirk Bridger
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

After importing a photo in f-spot, the date of the photo is incorrectly
displayed. I opened the same image in the image viewer and viewed its
properties. The EXIF data contains the correct date and time. I also
opened the image in gphoto and checked its properties. The EXIF date
and time are correct there.

Perhaps there's a strange time offset setting in f-spot. But the EXIF
states that the image was taken at 19:37 while f-spot displays it as 7
hours ahead (2:37)

[Bug 126369] Re: kernel disables irq after 10 minutes

2007-09-25 Thread Benjamin Herrenschmidt
A possible better workaround is to use "noapic". It sucks a lot less
and seem to have cured it for me so far.

Still not an optimal solution though, the root cause need to be tracked down,
though it may well be a BIOS bug
providing incorrect routing tables.

Can you guys try that and see if it helps ?

[Bug 145083] kde laptop battery icon/meter always shows half full since i only use 1 of 2 possible batteries

2007-09-25 Thread mike hancock
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kpowersave

my laptop can have up to 2 batteries. I only use one. the kde power
meter icon correctly shows the one battery is not present and the other
is X% charged. but the icon shows a half charged "icon" when my _one_
battery is fully charged. it never shows a 100% charged "icon" since I
do not have 2 batteries. If a battery is not present, it should consider
100% charged to be only the power that 1 battery could hold not 2. And
thus it should display a full battery icon if my one battery is
charged. The second battery slot can also be used for a floppy
disk/DVD drive. so it should handle either cases(left battery present
only.right battery present only.both batteries present)

[Bug 145081] update asks "do you want to abort now" with no explanation

2007-09-25 Thread Martin Pool
Public bug reported:

Gnome update manager, when installing a new kernel image, pops up a gtk
dialog asking:

  Debconf on hope
  Configuring linux-image-2.6.20-16-generic
[] Do you want to abort now? [Help]

  Cancel | Back | Forward

The help message shows some explanatory text about kernel-img.conf,
which I can understand but it may be confusing for some users. I don't
think i've changed kernel-img.conf in a way that provoked this.

[Bug 123224] Re: Bootup Kernel Panic with PCMCIA orinco Wifi card

2007-09-25 Thread mike hancock
I think i am having the same problem. I am using Kubuntu(with all the
latest updates in the gusty respotoriy).I have 2 PCMCIA prism wifi
cards. on the latest kernel in gusty if either card is plugged in on
boot i get a kernel panic. they both work(well.with problems!) in
kernel 2.6.17-10-generic. any kernel newer then that gives me a kernel
panic(or lots of errors). I noticed that if i boot with the wifi card
not plugged in it boots fine. if i then plug the card in after i boot
and run lspcmcia when booting the 2.6.22-12-generic kernel, it shows a
different driver being used then what is used in 2.6.17-10-generic.
2.6.17-10-generic shows "orinoco_cs". and 2.6.22-12-generic shows
"hostap". I don't know how to get the log information. if some one
could give me directions to how to do that i will give you any logs
files you need.

Re: [Bug 130075] Re: Random pauses when transferring data at gigabit speeds with forcedeth driver

2007-09-25 Thread David Burgess
iperf -c machine1 -d doesn't lock mine up, but adding "-p 2" (any
number of multiple threads) will do it every time, although not
necessarily right away.

And yes, this makes the forcedeth driver virtually useless on a
gigabit network. My findings were the same, only a reboot will bring
the interface back online.

[Bug 145071] Re: Darklooks gnome-panel msg unreadable

2007-09-25 Thread EvanCarroll
the problem is in /usr/share/themes/Darklooks/gtk-2.0/gtkrc
the theme assumes tooltips_fg_color:#00 is going to change the font-color
of the tooltips and it does no such thing. My guess is this might have worked
at one point, but it presumably imports style info from Clearlooks as well.

I'm new at this so I could just be talking out my arse. I guess
clearlooks is a baseclass of style for many gnome themes (the suffix
-looks seems to support this,) seems Human has a bunch of mentions of it
too. I suspect something changed in Clearlooks and that Darklooks
inherits from and it cascades borking that style.

Rough guestimation plz get fixed before launch!! Darklooks is awesome.

[Bug 141285] Re: letters are too small in firefox menu [SOLVED]

2007-09-25 Thread aamukahvi
Hi,

I upgraded yesterday to Gutsy to Feisty and had this very problem.
Everything was OK as long as I used 96DPI in Gnome. However changing it
to 80DPI (my preferred setting) made Firefox fonts nearly illegible
(smaller than every other app). Changing layout.css.dpi from -1 to 80 as
per Ivan Ivanoff's instructions helped.

I'm left wondering if every user must now adjust this setting manually.
Madness...

Attached is a pic with 80DPI Gnome & no setting changed in Firefox.

[Bug 42043] Re: Volume levels in mixer are not correctly defined

2007-09-25 Thread Ashton Batty
Same thing happens in alsamixer for me.
Alsamixer shows that the PCM channel at 74 has "dB gain=0.00, 0.00". Setting
PCM above 74 increases the dB gain above 0, and results in distortion.

[Bug 145058] Re: update-manager thinks I still live in Australia

2007-09-25 Thread John Vivirito
This is not a bug report. If you happen to install ubuntu while you were in
alstralia you choose in the first couple of prompts in installer your country
and it from there adds it to /etc/apt/sources.list.
Im not sure hwer eyou are right now but open /etc/apt/sources.list in your
favorite editor using sudo or gtksudo If using gedit or kate or kedit use
gtksuod or kdesu (gnome or kde) but you wan to open it as sudo and you will see
lines like deb http://au.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ gutsy multiverse atleast i
think its au but anyway remove the au and use the country code for wher eyou
live now or even pull the "au. out of it totally so it reads like
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ gutsy universe and you would also remove
gutsy and replace with the version you are on. do this for all of the lines
that have the country code in there (the security repos dont use country code,
than run sudo apt-get update than open update manager or use sudo apt-get
upgrade. The GUI update-manager using whatever repos are in the sources.list
file
Please report this to launchpad answers at

[Bug 144920] Re: Getting upgrade pre-requists failed

2007-09-25 Thread Stuart Bishop
I have reset my mirrors to the main servers using update-manager's
preferences, and manually confirmed that AU is not mentioned in
/etc/apt/sources.list or any files in /etc/apt/sources.list.d.

Then I ran update-manager -c -d. It failed as above.

Now checking /etc/apt/sources.list.d/prerequists-sources.list I find AU
as my mirror:

# sources.list fragment for pre-requists (one with countrymirror, one fallback)
deb http://au.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu feisty-backports main/debian-installer
#deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu feisty-backports main/debian-installer
# below is just for testing
#deb http://archive.dogfood.launchpad.net/ubuntu feisty-backports main/debian-in

The prerequists-sources.list.save looks correct though:

# sources.list fragment for pre-requists (one with countrymirror, one fallback)
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ feisty-backports main/debian-installer
# deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu feisty-backports main/debian-installer
# below is just for testing
# deb http://archive.dogfood.launchpad.net/ubuntu feisty-backports
main/debian-installer

[Bug 145068] Ubuntu 7.04 - cannot boot live CD

2007-09-25 Thread ozonehole
Public bug reported:

I have one of the new Dells that comes with Ubuntu pre-installed. Runs
OK, but the live CD that came with it cannot boot. I always get to a
text-mode screen with this error message:

/bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off
(initramfs)

I know it's not a defective CD. I have another copy I downloaded - same
issue. Furthermore, I downloaded Linux Mint (latest version based on
Ubuntu 7.04) and get the same result. But I can boot other live CDs
(such as the latest Kanotix, which is Debian-based). I CAN install
Ubuntu if I use the "alternate install" CD - it's only the live CD that
won't boot.

I am not the only one having this problem. I searched the
linuxquestions.org forum, and came up with this:

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?t=474493

I tried some of the suggestions on this forum, such as playing with the
BIOS settings to turn off AHCI on the SATA controller - this was not
successful.

Please get back to me if you need any more info about my hardware.

I do hope that the problem can be fixed before the release of 7.10.

best regards,
Oz

[Bug 42600] Re: Microphone does not work on Dell Inspiron 630m

2007-09-25 Thread Ian Phillips
If you're having problems (like I was), don't forget to try upgrading
your BIOS. I finally got it to work on my Inspiron 1300/Feisty system
by upgrading my BIOS from A02 to A10.

[Bug 33505] Re: BADSIG errors on http proxies (transparent?)

2007-09-25 Thread Stuart Bishop
Updating status to unblock.

As per ginkhao's message this is still happening at least for a large
proportion Thai users. Running "sudo apt-get update -o Acquire::http
::No-Cache=True" from the command line seems to be the current work
around to use.

I have my doubts that it is fixed, because the characters are embedded

And since this bug appears in the current version, I'm filing it.

The file downloads with no problem. However when using a package manager to
