[Bug 145875] Support specific version/distribution for packages to build/install

2007-09-27 Thread dAniel hAhler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apt-build

It would be nice, if the following would work:
# apt-build install apt=0.7.6ubuntu11
or
# apt-build install apt/gutsy

(just like "apt-get install" supports it)

[Bug 145712] Re: Gutsy beta - Desktop CD install hangs on migration screen

2007-09-27 Thread Tom Norback
I have the same problem with the installation hanging after an alert
about the migration assistant.

I ran "ubiquity --debug" and have attached /var/log/syslog and
/var/log/installer/debug output.

[Bug 145869] Re: [gutsy beta] package managers freeze when reading package list on live cd

2007-09-27 Thread Brian Murray
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This is probably a duplicate of bug 144945 which was
mentioned in the release announcement of the Beta CD. Please check
dmesg for a kernel oops related to the unionfs to confirm whether or not
his a duplicate bug report. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 120365] Re: CUPS hangs on large job queue

2007-09-27 Thread Dan Moreton
I can confirm running Feisty and Network Printer. A single 21 page
document printed cups crashed and piled errors into error log . . . .
subsequent print jobs were queued but not printed until user rebooted.

[Bug 145870] Nautilus emblems icons are inconsistent

2007-09-27 Thread Dylan McCall
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: human-icon-theme

The icons for emblems available in Nautilus are inconsistent.

For example, neither the "Debian" nor "default" emblems are following
the orange style of the others. In addition, the "OK", "Debian" and
"Downloads" emblems have capital letters in their names, while no others
do.

The "Downloads" emblem, while attractive and consistent with the other
Download icon, is also not following the same style as the others.
(Besides, no other emblems are consistent with icons used elsewhere).

** Description changed:

from the 2005-04-07 i386 DVD, installed on an amd64 host. The gnome desktop

[Bug 50731] Re: nmblookup and mount.smbfs fail in edgy

When I try now, I get this:

$ nmblookup server

but that's because I've moved onto a separate subnet, separate from all
the Windows machines, so I'm afraid I can't test it any more.

I got the impression it was failing generally, though, and not just for
me. Does it work for you?

[Bug 126104] Re: emblems are too small

2007-09-27 Thread Dylan McCall
Subscribing to this bug. I'll see if I can submit a patch for Nicolò's
change.

This is in need of a fix prior to Gutsy's release. The choice of using
all orange for the emblems was risky, but they are still coherent (and
quite attractive) when sized reasonably. However, with their current
size, they are impossible to tell apart due to all being orange.

Perhaps it is worth noting that some emblems which are not user defined
- such as the FTP, Home and USB ones - are sized much more generously,
and thus are quite coherent.

[Bug 93518] Re: [apport] pycentral crashed with AttributeError in install()

2007-09-27 Thread Caspin
Sorry about the hasty post. The pyversions fix I mentions previously
does not completely fix the problem. The problem is the symlink but it
breaks more pieces of python-central than just pyversions. The easiest
fix I've found is to restore the expected directory structure.

ls -l /usr/bin/pyton
take note of your default
sudo rm /usr/bin/python
sudo ln -s python2.4 /usr/bin/python
replace python2.4 with you default. Notice, the lack of a path it is important

now when you ls -l the line should end with

/usr/bin/python -> python2.4

BTW: I am using edgy and the workaround did not work for me. Without the fix I
am unable to uninstall any python packages and only install a few of them.

[Bug 106395] Re: Flat panel resolution 1680x1050 not detected for laptop with ATI X1400

2007-09-27 Thread Bryce Harrington
Nicolas, I suspect you may be seeing 86011 rather than this bug.
xresprobe tosses the highest resolution and reports only up to the
second-highest in some circumstances. See my comments there.

Dave, Oliver, and siggi, can you please attach your Xorg.0.log and
xorg.conf files, and the output from ddcprobe and xresprobe ?

Re: [Bug 144261] Re: gutsy gconf does load .gconf but does read it

2007-09-27 Thread Olafur Arason
I found out what was wrong. Gconf for some reason and I tried a gconf
merge tree. It started working again apperently but now on the
merge tree file. So when I moved the file everything was back to normal.

But I don't know what caused it not working in the first place.

[Bug 133251] Re: [Gutsy] Network Manager freezes system when logging into a WPA WiFi network using ralink rt2500

2007-09-27 Thread Rafael Gálvez-Cañero
I'm pleased to write that with that deb it appears to work. Here are my
steps:

Booted from gitsy daily-live 25.2 (current as today). Then I removed the
modules related to the wifi card (that was inserted in the PCMCIA slot
at boot time, but removed after the boot) using rmmod on rt2500pci,
rt2x00pci, rt2x00lib and rfkill (that was using something from rt2x00).
After installing your package (previously downloaded to an ext3
partition) the card was not correctly detected the first time, inserting
it a second time solved it. After that, it showed networks availables in
n-m and connected correctly to my wpa-protected AP without problems at
all. Now I'm writing using the connection.

How can I help to push a definitive fix to this issue in the final
release? Is it too late? According to your post you have located the
exact commit where the issue was introduced (so it should be not so
difficult to fix or revert the patch). am I wrong?

Thank you for your help. I was loosing the hope to see this solved (and
I have 2 pcs with rt2500 chips around...). Now it appears to be a
chance.

I can confirm this also.

I have a edited xorg.conf file but wanted to follow the ubuntu standard
and test to use the Screen and graphics application provided by ubuntu
gutsy.

The frustrating part for me though is actually that the list of screens
does not show my monitors in the list:

Samsung SyncMaster 920T
Samsung SyncMaster 226CW

Where I want to use 1685x1050 on my 226CW screen and 1280x1024 on the
910T one and can't see really good info to get them going.

[Bug 86011] Re: 20" Widescreen TFT not detected

2007-09-27 Thread Bryce Harrington
Probably the reason that 1680x1050 isn't listed, is that xresprobe's
ddcprobe.sh script always drops the highest resolution returned by
ddcprobe. For some monitors (esp. true crts), the higher resolutions
can be problematic, so it makes sense that the highest one would be
dropped, even if that's sort of a crude solution for cases like these.

The reason it's getting detected as crt instead of lcd is because
ddcprobe.sh determines this by grepping for "^input: .*digital" from the
ddcprobe output. Looking at the raw ddcprobe output, it doesn't seem
there's any alternate way of detecting it's an lcd. Fortunately, I
don't think there's much functional difference in how Ubuntu configures
X for lcds from crts, so this error is probably innocuous.

For gutsy, though, you should be able to fix this up post-install by
using the Screens and Graphics tool. This bug should be left open
though, so we can fix things better in Hardy.

[Bug 145855] cups does not support Dell 5100cn color laser printer

2007-09-27 Thread Kristian Erik Hermansen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cupsys

I even tried adding this one manually, using the generic PostScript
driver, but when the page was sent to the printer, I am only met with an
"A4 Load" message when printing a test page. I also tried changing the
settings to not be A4 by default, to no avail...

http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/print_5100cn?c=us&l=en&s=gen

Some people have claimed to got it working, but have not provided details:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=465345
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=892708

Still, even in Gutsy, there should be an entry under the Dell category for the
5100cn product, and there is not. Maybe this needs to be pulled from upstream?
OpenPrinting lists a PPD and appears to be supported.
http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=Dell-5100CN

The RPM can be found directly from Dell:

[Bug 145856] Compiz Opens windows off Desktop

2007-09-27 Thread Kyle James
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

I am using 7.10 Beta. I downloaded the "Compiz Config Settings Manager"
tool and most everything works fine. However the setting "Place Windows"
under the Window management section cause an annoying behavior. When
"Place Windows" is checked, any new window or program opens locked to
the upper left hand corner. When the "Place Windows" box is unchecked
the windows open off the upper left hand corner of the screen. Most of
the Window is shown, and I can press ALT and drag it back into view, but
every new window opens without the ability to see the title bar and
close/minimize/maximize etc. buttons, which is most annoying!

Here is a screen shot of "Place Windows" checked and active.

[Bug 132042] Re: wireless stops working until reboot

2007-09-27 Thread MrJD
Please raise the priority of this, if you want ubuntu to work on laptops
as well as winblows then this is a bug that needs some attention. I as
well have a laptop with a wireless net problem. Same symptoms, haven't
tried to modprobe it to work yet.

After some time it just stops working, the wireless light goes out as
well. Mashing the radio button does no good, and it will not reconnect
until next reboot.

[Bug 134768] Re: Progress bar problems + failure to set usplash.conf values in Ubuntu tribe 4 and tribe 5 i386 and amd64 desktop cds

2007-09-27 Thread Ric Flomag
Same problem here, with Gutsy Beta LiveCD. My video card is a GeForce4
420 Go (SONY Vaio PCG-FR285E)

Note that the progress bar is outsized and displaced during the first
step of the boot process (when a small orange bar is moving from side to
side). Then the splash screen disappears and the boot process follows
displaying text in terminal mode (I guess this is the moment when the
usplash progress bar should begin to fill the bar from left to right).

Once i've installed the system on the hard disc though, usplash does
work as expected.

Re: [Bug 144261] Re: gutsy gconf does load .gconf but does read it

2007-09-27 Thread Olafur Arason
I have of this date 27 sep updated every package and it's still a problem
could I get the old package to build so I can see if it's something else
it's gone from the archive.

I can't seem to find where gconf now stores the values but it does. I
tried killing the daemon and then running gconf-editor and it worked.
I have tried attaching a strace to the daemon but it's to difficult
understanding what it's doing.

I don't have the tilda sign in these examples because the Alt-Gr does not
work because it's tied to a gconf registry value.

Can this be fixed prior to final release?
