[Bug 151620] FTBFS: missing build-dependency on python-qt3

2007-10-11 Thread dAniel hAhler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kde-hal-device-manager

kde-hal-device-manager FTBFS in Gutsy (buildlog:
http://people.debian.org/~lucas/logs/2007/08/28/kde-hal-device-
manager_0.3-0ubuntu2_gutsy32.buildlog)

It appears there's a build-dependency on python-qt3 missing.

I've added this and uploaded it to my PPA, where it has been built
correctly.

I'll provide a debdiff to fix this.

Re: [Bug 147943] Re: [MASTER] broken initial stacking

2007-10-11 Thread Ross Peoples
I know what you mean about video card being obscured. Not many people
run a X850 either. As far as bug reports go, I usually look to see if
someone else posted something about, and if not, creating a new bug
report. Alot of times it ends up as a duplicate of another bug with a
subject line that has nothing to do with the bug itself, similar to
this bug. My bug report had the title of something like, Panels do
not show on desktop after logging in, running Compiz. Then when it
became a duplicate of this bug which could be nominated for worst
subject line for a bug report.

But what I'm trying to say, is yes, you should file a bug report (as
long as it's not obviously a duplicate of another existing bug).

My experience with my card was strange to say the least. A fresh
install of Gusty + XGL had Compiz running. Then when I realized video
played very choppy, I installed the restricted drivers, which would
not run Compiz. So I uninstalled again. Rebooted, and reinstalled the
restricted drivers, and everything magically started working. I didn't
file a bug report because I figured I did something wrong.

So maybe try that and see if ity helps. Let me know and good luck,

Ross

And thank you medigeek for nominating this for Gutsy. When I initially
reported It, I thought it was in the list of Gutsy bugs.

And, because I never mentioned it: I have an ATI X800XT Platinum Edition
with no restricted drivers installed (because they don't have compiz
extensions) on my desktop, and an NVidia Geforce Go 7700 with restricted
  drivers for my laptop.

Both machines still give the same error with stacking windows.

I didn't want to fill the thread with more posts, so I emailed this to you.

That is interesting that it works for you. When I enable the restricted
driver and reboot. it says that my card does not support composite
extensions. I know it works, because I used to download the drivers and
install them from the ATI site, years ago with older Ubuntu releases.

Do you think I should file a bug report about it not working? I'm not
quite up-to-speed on how all the bug report procedures work in
launchpad. So I don't know if that is something they would care about.
Just wondering since you have more experience with it.

On a side note. I've often thought of just giving my video card to
Ubuntu, so they can make sure it works. It is kind of an obscure card.

[Bug 151621] Cursor Disappears - Nvidia Card

2007-10-11 Thread Chicken001
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Right now I'm using Ubuntu 7.04 with an Nvidia card. I've used Ubuntu
since 6.06 and ever since I switched from 6.10 to 7.04 this problem has
occurred.

Every once in a while my cursor disappears only when my PC loads
applications. For example, Firefox, I'll visit a webpage, any webpage,
my cursor will disappear for the duration of the load until complete.

The cursor is still there, but I can't see it. If I over over buttons or
click, the mouse event will still be sent just that I can't see the
cursor visually.

I can't exactly pin-point my bug or what causes it... BUT! I do notice
that if I keep my PC on all the time, running XMMS, aMSN, Firefox, this
will occur. To fix it, I do a simple reboot, the problem is that it
reoccurs after a while.

I have Compiz installed with a Metacity theme as well. Is this a Compiz
problem? =\

[Bug 124773] Re: fsck freezes on laptop

2007-10-11 Thread Theodore Ts'o
Well, for someone who knows what they are doing, they *can* skip the
check. They can simply boot into simple user mode, and use tune2fs to
adjust mount count. Or, if you are booting using a plain text console,
just edit /etc/e2fsck.conf, add:

[options]
   allow_cancellation = true

This will allow ^C to work. However, if you are using a graphical boot,
it's up to the graphical boot manager to forward the ^C to e2fsck, which
is not my problem. Personally, I think it's a REALLY, REALLY BAD IDEA,
given my understanding of what Ubuntu is aiming for. There are
solutions for technically clueful users; they're just not obvious, as
you proposed. If you don't know to boot into single user mode, you
probably don't have enough clue to understand when it's safe to do this,
and when not to.

Also, note that for users who are complaining that fsck is freezing at
random places, there's almost some kind of hardware and/or kernel bug
going on. Bypassing the fsck isn't going to help, and in fact, may
cause much larger forms of data loss later on.

[Bug 151625] rhythmbox sort import errors

2007-10-11 Thread Wousser
Public bug reported:

GNOME rhythmbox 0.11.2

I have different errors in the import errors list. Like, The MIME type of the
file could not be identified, The GStreamer plugins to decode MP3 files
cannot be found (should be m4a btw)
I wanted to sort them by clicking on the title of the table: Error. This
doesn't work, I get an arrow changing up and down but it does nothing. Same for
sorting the Location column.

Steps to reproduce:
Try to sort your import errors.

Expected result:
I can sort my errors so I can delete quickly the wrong mime type files. And not
the m4a files.

[Bug 150231] Re: [gutsy] gedit ctrl+s triggers goto line not save file action

2007-10-11 Thread Jörn Dreyer
ok, I removed the other mappings and the bug seems gone. Readding the
neolayout breaks it again. Readding the simple german layout does not.
So the bug seems to be with the neostyle, which AFAIR is not officially
supported by ubuntu. So thx for walking me through this. Unfortunately
there does not seem to be an updated version of the package:
http://eigenheimstrasse.de:8668/space/Computerecke/NEO-
Tastaturlayout/Download/GNU-Linux?

Are there any bugs related to this one I coud subscribe to?

This is the neo-de package installed on my system.

[Bug 151491] Re: Too many entries for Parallel Port in configuration wizard

2007-10-11 Thread Till Kamppeter
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 104166 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/104166

The problem of showing three entries for the parallel port is not a
problem of system-config-printer. system-config-printer only asks CUPS
for available devices, doing an IPP request equivalent to lpinfo -l
-v. CUPS then starts all backends in /usr/lib/cups/backend/ without
command line arguments. The entries which you see are derived from the
backends' answers. The two entries of Gutenprint are from the canon
and epson backends from Gutenprint and this problem is handled in bug
104166.

The problem of not being able to set up local printers without having
the printer connected and turned on is an upstream problem of CUPS. See
bug 151182 for more.

Please continue the discussion in bug 104166 or bug 151182 depending on
which problem you want to talk about.

[Bug 145162] there in feisty, too

I've checked and the problem seems to be there in Feisty as well. The
end result is that a lot of packages specified in the kickstart

I'm wondering if the workaround isn't to have a shell script which loops
the installation of each package until the return value indicates
success.

I had this problem but I've found a temporary solution which that works, at
least for me.

After resuming from suspend, I turn off the wireless and on a second later
with my laptop wireless off/on button, and I go to the console and type
sudo /etc/init.d/dbus restart. After that everything should be ok.

[Bug 151629] Rhythmbox playlists don't support intentionally duplicate songs

2007-10-11 Thread Omegamormegil
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I tried to create a playlist in Rhythmbox in which a song played twice
in a row, by dragging it onto the playlist, but the song wouldn't show
up the second time. In Rythmbox, re-adding a song that is already in a
playlist removes the previous instance of the song. I manually edited
the playlist and added the song twice, but when opening the playlist in
Rythmbox, it still only showed the song once. I opened the playlist in
Serpentine, and it correctly showed the song twice. It seems like this
functionality might be intentional, but it can't be assumed that
duplicates are unintentional.

** Affects: rhythmbox (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 124773] Re: fsck freezes on laptop

2007-10-11 Thread Reuben Firmin
Well, for someone who knows what they are doing, they *can* skip the
check. They can simply boot into simple user mode...

Nope, that still hits fsck. The only way I've been able to recover the
system when it is in brick mode (i.e. fsck is queued) is using a live
cd, and then adjust tune2fs or fstab as you suggest.

The config option is a new one to me, so thanks for that info. As you
say, though, it's dependent not being in a graphical boot...which ubuntu
is. Still, I'll add a bug to the bootsplash folks and see what they
suggest.

Yup, the bug is still present in upstream. We've contacted GregKH (the
pl2303 maintainer) but no work has been done yet, so we're on the
process of mailing him an E620. That'll be the quickest I guess.

PS: The bug title should be renamed to Kernel panik on 2.6.18.4+

[Bug 151632] No way in Rhythmbox to refresh/update music library after moving/renaming/updating tags in songs

2007-10-11 Thread Omegamormegil

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

After changing the names of folders in my music library, or updating
tags the updates don't show up in Rhythmbox, and if I manually re-add a
renamed music folder it duplicates the music in the library, but gives
errors because it can't find the old one. There should at least be an
easy graphical way to reload/update the library, or better yet, have it
detect changes automatically. I have to do it manually by deleting

[Bug 151630] Allow passwordless installs?

2007-10-11 Thread Loïc Minier
Public bug reported:

Hi,

On the ubiquity screen requesting information for the end-user account,
a password is required to continue.

I think it might make sense for home installs to allow the account to be
passwordless. For example a computer sitting at home and only used by
family members might not need any gdm password at all. Perhaps some
components would need to be checked in such a situation (how does gnome-
screensaver react, what happens if one wants to share file with a
password etc.).

This option could be a checkbox as to prevent clicking on the Next

[Bug 151634] snd_hda_intel @ Intel DP35DP mb.: Input from Line-in / Mic can't be listen in the output

2007-10-11 Thread Roberto
Public bug reported:

Hi, I have an Intel DP35DP motherboard
(http://www.intel.com/products/motherboard/dp35dp/index.htm) with
integrated audio (HDA with sigmatel STAC9271D codec) as you can see in
this link for the motherboard's specification page. Ubuntu loads the
snd_hda_intel driver for this.

I can record from microphone or line-in normally, but I can't hear the
sound from any of these inputs at the same time (loopback). I've tried
all combinations possible using alsamixer and gnome volume control items
(including the ones disabled by default). No way.

While this may appear to be not important, it's a big problem because I
have a TV capture card which doesn't have audio decoding in the chip
(and even if it had, it would'nt be my preferred way to use it because
TVTime doesn't support this directly, and also I would make the audio
output busy). I can hear the sound if I redirect from input to output
using some program like sox (or even the cat command - something like
cat /dev/dsp /dev/audio).

I'm ready to answer any additional questions which would help to solve
this problem.

[Bug 150851] Re: Invalid shared-mime XML file installed

2007-10-11 Thread Ralf Nieuwenhuijsen
Wait: it claims they are democracy files _until_ i click them. (not execute
them)
When executing, they claim that the content and the file-extension do not
match.
The content is said to be text/plain.

If I run the following command in a terminal:
file subscribe.democracy

I get:
subscribe.democracy:xml

So, it seems nautilus is 'detecting' it as a text-file because its an xml file.
How to override this?

[Bug 120017] Re: Can't compile Zaptel driver under feisty with a 2.6.20.16 kernel

2007-10-11 Thread Robby
Hi guys,

I also had problems compiling this module under edgy tribe 5, using the
command: module-assistant -t a-i zaptel
The error I got was /usr/src/modules/zaptel/ztd-eth.c:176: error: struct
sk_buff has no member named nh

I fixed it by applying the following patch to the ztd-eth.c code:
http://svn.digium.com/view/zaptel/branches/1.4/ztd-
eth.c?sortby=revr1=2044r2=2676pathrev=2676

So from this it looks like this package needs to be updated to at least
rev 2676 to work with the newest kernels.

[Bug 151636] Metacity vanishes when switching virtual desktops

2007-10-11 Thread ilsa
Public bug reported:

I am using Gutsy Beta (everything up to date), upgraded from Feisty. I
am running on a Dell Latitude D400 which uses an intel graphics chip.

I have 'Extra' selected for the compiz settings, and I am currently
mirroring my laptop display onto an external LCD monitor, configured
from the Screens and Graphics applet rather than the built in laptop
functions. I have 4 virtual desktops configured.

When I change desktops by clicking on the the Workspace Switcher, no
problem. If I use ctrl-alt-arrowkey to switch desktops, no problem.
But when I use ctrl-alt-arrowkey to switch desktops, and THEN switch
again by clicking the Workspace Switcher, the window manager and all my
applications just vanish. I can continue to switch desktops using ctrl-
alt-arrowkey (at least I think I do... the relevant compiz eyecandy
appears on the screen.) but there is no actual window manager to speak
of.

If I switch to a console and then try to switch back, I am left with a
black screen and blinking cursor. The graphical mode is not restored.
I have to restart gdm to get back in. I can't find anything of note in
either dmesg or /var/log/messages.

[Bug 151638] [gutsy] Screen brightness indicator flickers on battery

When I sit idle on battery power with power preferences set to not auto-

Ok, I'm in midterms right now, but as soon as I have some time I will

problem that we describe or are you unable to reproduce this behavior? A
simple test is to try adding garbage text (ie. asdf asdf...) to the
example I posted on this bug report.

Your processor usage should be adversely affected if you keep typing
garbage repeatedly.
