It belongs to package xorg-driver-fglrx:

Package: xorg-driver-fglrx

I created this package myself from the driver that I downloaded from

[Bug 161801] Serbina Latin not working (locales problem)

2007-11-09 Thread kusodian
Public bug reported:

Packages kde-i18n-sr and kde-i18n-srlatn are installed, but (in Kubuntu) when I
open System Settings -> Regional & Language and when I add Serbian Latin to the
lis of languages, it doesn't do anything. Serbian (Cyrillic) works fine.
I noticed that the codes for Serbian language have changed so when I update my
locales I get these errors:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] cannot open locale definition file [EMAIL PROTECTED]': No
such file or directory
failed
[EMAIL PROTECTED] cannot open locale definition file [EMAIL PROTECTED]': No
such file or directory

[EMAIL PROTECTED] cannot open locale definition file [EMAIL PROTECTED]': No
such file or directory
failed
sr_YU.UTF-8... cannot open locale definition file `sr_YU': No such file or
directory
failed

The new codes are:
  [EMAIL PROTECTED]
  sr_RS.UTF-8

File "/var/lib/locales/supported.d/sr" needs to be updated with these
new codes, I don't know to which package it belongs to.

[Bug 131983] Re: [gutsy] trackerd kills disk io

2007-11-09 Thread timduk
Re: chicken and egg..

It would appear that the underlying problem could be revealed quite
easily. I would hazard a guess that we few "corner cases" have perhaps
something in common - we are installing Ubuntu on already densely
populated systems?

In my case, I suspect the combination of auto detection and mounting of
my MS partitions (with 3.5 million files) and trackerd's attempt to
index them.

Is that a fair assessment? Would trackerd attempt to do that?

If so, then it is easily replicated... create a Windows base system (XP,
Vista, WIN2000 or whatever) with a few thousand dummy directories, and
fill each directory with a few hundred randomly generated text files,
THEN install Ubuntu and see what happens.

Is it reasonable to suggest that your testing is done on clean
installations?

[Bug 67033] Re: Problem with partly hided drop down window

2007-11-09 Thread Arief Mulya Utama

Steps to reproduce:

1. Go to http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=GOOG

2. Click on the charts displayed in the page. (Or click on the "Try our
new charts" link). It should take us to the chart page.

3. On the flash-based charting page, click on the button "Technical
Indicators" above the charts. It would show only part of the technical
indicators available.

Note:
I think this bug may be related more to adobe flash plugin issues in Linux than
to firefox itself. I know that the page displayed just fine in Firefox in
Windows and Mac. With the same adobe flash plugin version 9.

[Bug 154069] Re: Ubuntu freezing with toshiba laptop

2007-11-09 Thread George Masters
I have also received similar problems on my Toshiba Satellite 1805-S273.
I researched a number of other recent distro releases and found similar
results. Fedora Core 8 RC3 had the same issue with this computer as did
the latest debian release. The common thread seems to be xorg version
7.3 and the associated driver. The command line version of 7.10 works
fine on this system, just xorg comes up with a black screen. Users
getting the Error 15 in GRUB can install Ubuntu 7.10 using the alternate
install disk and doint the command-line only install. The OS will
install properly, boot and run.

I posted the scenario of my tests on the hardware/install forum to help
those looking for workarounds/fixes.

[Bug 161799] bootsplash and boot-message enhancement suggestions

2007-11-09 Thread RichardNeill
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: sysv-rc-bootsplash

May I make a few suggestions as to how the bootsplash system could be
enhanced:

1)For comparison/inspiration, please take a look at the Mandriva,
Knoppix, and Gentoo Live CDs.

Specifically:

2)If the kernel-commandline has "quiet", then bootsplash is extremely
uninformative (Just like Windows XP!). Mandriva lets you press Esc to
view verbose details, but this doesn't work on Ubuntu. It would be
really nice if this were added.

3)If you turn off splash entirely, in order to see the regular messages,
they show up in a very large font. Manually specifying vga=XXX usually
results in a completely black screen, even when hwinfo --framebuffer
reports that the mode should work.

4)A consequence of (3) is that the virtual-terminals are extremely
unpleasant to work with, after logging in, since they show so little
information on a screen.

5)There's no use of colour in the boot messages. Even a simple
OK and Failed (like Mandrake) would be
helpful.

6)Take a look at the way Gentoo does it. The result is beautiful, clear,
and informative.

Hopefully, some of these suggestions are useful. Please do look at the
Gentoo disc - it is quite a revelation.

[Bug 139313] Re: nvidia dual head twinview (pseudo-xinerama): gnome-panel and maximized windows span both heads on first login

2007-11-09 Thread RichardNeill
I also see this, with a fully updated gutsy, and the nvidia-driver(*)
and twinview. (intel x86-64, GeForce 7600 GT)

pseudo-Xinerama is completely broken, in both KDE and in Gnome, so that
dialog boxes split across 2 screens, and maximising windows makes them
span both screens. Also, the windows don't see the centre-line as an
"edge", so don't "snap" to it in KDE. Unfortunately, logging out and
back does not fix it.

I also get the erroneous-error "You don't appear to be using the NVIDIA
X driver" from nvidia-settings.

Some further experimentation:

1)The KDM login screen does center correctly on one monitor, unlike every other
dialog box, which centers between the monitors.
(If I add "option xinerama" to xorg.conf, even this stops working. That's
probably expected, since real xinerama disables twinview)

2)KDE's kcontrol monitor configuration looks unusual, and seems to be
missing features compared to the same kcontrol option on other, non-
ubuntu KDE systems. It seems to use displayconfig, which I am guessing
is releated to displayconfig-gtk. Has Kubuntu replaced a working KDE-
native configuration widget with a broken kubuntu tool?

3)Mandriva One 2008.0 (the liveCD with the nvidia driver) works absolutely
perfectly with twinview, and the windows/panel behave properly.
(The KDE monitor-tool is different in Mandriva 2008 (KDE 3.5.7) to the
expectedly identical counterpart in kubuntu.)

4)The output from xdpyinfo is identical from both my broken Gutsy
system, and my old Mandake 2005 system (which used the same monitors,
but a totally different CPU/motherboard, and a FX5200 card, and which
also had pseudo-xinerama working properly).

(*)The one from nvidia.com (or using envy), since the ubuntu nvidia-glx
package is still completely broken.

But as this occurs across distributions and one distribution is rather

[Bug 161797] Ubuntu's nvidia driver package is broken

2007-11-09 Thread RichardNeill
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nvidia-glx

On a fully-updated install of Gutsy, the nvidia driver is (still)
broken. If I install nvidia-glx, and then restart kdm, I get garbage on
the screen, and the following in the logfile:

(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA kernel module! Please ensure
(EE) NVIDIA(0): that there is a supported NVIDIA GPU in this system, and
(EE) NVIDIA(0): that the NVIDIA device files have been created properly.
(EE) NVIDIA(0): Please consult the NVIDIA README for details.
(EE) NVIDIA(0): *** Aborting ***

However, if I install the nvidia driver manually (the latest one from
nvidia.com), or use envy to install it, everything works correctly. I
think something has gone badly wrong with the ubuntu package!

[Bug 161796] nv driver results in out-of-range signal

2007-11-09 Thread RichardNeill
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-driver-nv

Using a default xorg.conf (as re-generated by dpkg-reconfigure -phigh
xserver-xorg) results in the X-server starting fine (according to
/var/log/Xorg.0.log), but nothing being displayed on the monitors (one
goes black, saying "out of range", the other displays weird patterns).

This is not fixed, even by forcing
Option "HorizSync" "60"
Option "VertRefresh" "75"

However, it works fine using the vesa or nvidia(*) driver.

I'm using a fully-updated install of Gutsy, on Intel-64, with a GeForce
7600 GT card. I have 2 LCD monitors, both capable of 1600x1200, one on
DVI, the other is connected via VGA. The Mandriva 2008 LiveCD works
fine, so it's not a hardware issue.

[Bug 158166] Re: Samsung HM160JI sata hdd > no devices detected

2007-11-09 Thread cyberdork33
This is a problem for quite a few people on the Apple Intel Forum. Seems
most have Samsung Harddrives.

There is a trick to making a disk in normal MBR (msdos) partitioning,
and still get osx on there, might try reformatting the disk in a 'msdos'
format. To get OSX on there, you will have to install normally, then use
something like Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the partition to an external
drive. Then you can format the internal drive however you like (with an
HFS+ partition) and clone the osx image back onto the msdos disk.

[Bug 86680] Re: knetworkmanager stops kde applications from accessing the network

2007-11-09 Thread Laurie Bradshaw
I've worked out a partial fix for KNetworkManager managed PPP

The problem was simply that the original patch didn't account for PPP

[Bug 157909] Re: IDE0 and IDE1 taken over by SATA in Gutsy

I'll ditto on this one. I have a 4 port HPT card, and the standard 2
onboard IDE interfaces, and all I can see are the internals and 2 of the
ports on the HPT card. This is particularly problematic in the server
kernel, where you would expect to encounter a larger proportion of users
with lots of disks...

[Bug 161794] autologin

2007-11-09 Thread Francis Giraldeau
Public bug reported:

Autologin isn't working appropriately. This affect ltsp 5.0.39 in gutsy.

The symptom is that when enabling autologin, the resulting is a black
screen, and login is never performed.

After a bit of inspection, it appears that get_host() function from
client/ldm2/src/greeter_iface.c return nothing in the case of autologin.
This happens, because get_host() assume that there is a greeter. This is
not the case with autologin, because the greeter is not spawned.

I don't know what is best. I think that fuctions in greeter_iface should
be called only in the case that there is a greeter spawned. Since the
autologin doesn't, information should be retreived by using environment
variables.

LDM_USERNAME and LDM_PASSWORD : trivial
LDM_SERVER : take the first in the list
If LDM_SERVER is not defined, fallback to use SERVER variable, that is always
set no matter what.

Any comments are welcome.

Setting "/FrontEnd/X11/Dynamic" to false in my ~/.scim/config did not

I used im-switch to set my IM configuration to scim-pinyin and now I can
use deadkeys again. The critical thing, from what I can tell, is to
have scim-bridge be used by GTK and QT:

[Bug 131983] Re: [gutsy] trackerd kills disk io

2007-11-09 Thread Tim Wright
As somebody who commented earlier about the issues with trackerd Gutsy
Beta, I feel it only fair that I should update and point out that, for
me at least, the final shipped version of trackerd is quite usable on
both my desktop system (not ancient but hardly current), and my laptop.
So, whilst I cannot speak for others, or claim that tracker is perfect,
it is entirely fair to say that a lot of issues were addressed, and that
for a lot of people, if not the vast majority, it is quite usable at the
moment.

I will emphasize again, please don't take this as me saying "oh trackerd
is perfect and people are just whining". I am not. But I felt it only
fair to point out that it has improved to the point where it is "mostly
harmless" :-)

[Bug 161789] No unread message info on next startup

2007-11-09 Thread aj
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pidgin

Problem:
When there are unread message waiting to be read and pidgin is closed - there
is no unread message info displayed on next start.

Example:
I get a message while watching tv on my computer. I will never discover these
messages when I shut down the computer via remote.
Also this is a problem when there is an incoming message after you decided to
shut down the pc. If you saw the blinking it will lead to a
pretty annoying search for the message on next startup.

Expected:
An unread message information is displayed on programm start.

Note:
The message itself is available - the problem is noticing it and then finding
it.

[Bug 161784] Nautilus fails to access /home/Personal File

2007-11-09 Thread viktor
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I did nothing special (last package update was at least a couple of hour back)
and now Nautilus cannot display my Personal Folder content.
On killing the Nautilus process several times (it is using CPU to solve the
issue, to no avail) my desktop files then cannot be displayed either.

Everything is just fine until I try to open the Nautilus explorer for
home//
Other folders and sub-folders are ok and GTK file choser is ok to read from my

[Bug 76593] Re: asus brightness hotkeys

2007-11-09 Thread fsando
> Shouldn't this bug be marked as fix released?
I don't think this is fixed yet

I can confirm this is still a problem on gutsy (was the same on feisty)
Laptop: asus w1j:

:~$ grep . /var/lib/acpi-support/*-*
/var/lib/acpi-support/bios-version:W1JAS.212
/var/lib/acpi-support/system-manufacturer:ASUSTeK Computer Inc.
/var/lib/acpi-support/system-product-name:W1J
/var/lib/acpi-support/system-version:1.0

Pressing Fn+F5 when running acpi_listen produces 2 lines (Fn+F6 produces
nothing):
~$ acpi_listen
hotkey ATKD 002e 0005
video LCDD 0087

As a work-around to get the brightness back: put the brightness applet on the
panel (so you can move the brightness slider back up again):
Right click on the panel, choose 'Add to Panel', under 'System and Hardware'
choose 'Brightness Applet'.

[Bug 91966] Re: screen artifacts after resume, part row of pixels in error (945GM)

2007-11-09 Thread Phi
Aha! I finally found the right bug report. I have a Fujitsu Lifebook
s7110 with an Intel 945GM/GMS graphics chip that has the exact same
symptoms as described here. I get pixel swapping after resume (and also
when I first boot up, but only if GRUB times out...odd) to "text mode
garbage blocks of colour and stuck system" when I switched drivers in
Feisty to fix it. Been searching for a solution for ages.

Since this bug is off to Intel now, I'm not sure how to help at the
moment. I'll keep watching this thread.

[Bug 66917] Re: Ubuntu should ship a properly configured /etc/qt.rc (QT applications render with random fonts without KDE installed)

2007-11-09 Thread dAniel hAhler
1. libqt3-mt should provide /etc/qt3/qtrc
2. There was a bug in Ubuntu Gutsy, which gave this file wrong permissions, but
there's a fix in -proposed already (bug 145709). So this is bug here is not
really in Gutsy, as patpi stated above.

So, the bug in Gutsy is bug 145709 - and this particular bug is "Fix
Released", because it was fixed in Feisty (AFAICS).

There is a proposed package available in the other bug
(3:3.3.8really3.3.7-0ubuntu11.1).

Marking as "fix released".

[Bug 123080] Re: [gutsy] booting after hibernation doesn't prompt for a password

2007-11-09 Thread forest
It's still broken for me.

If I hibernate using the power manager applet in the notification tray
(next to the task bar clock), I am prompted for my password when I
resume. If I hibernate using the usual Quit / Log Out menu, the
password prompt is bypassed when I resume.

Xfce desktop.
Upgraded from Feisty to Gutsy.
gnome-screensaver 2.20.0-0ubuntu4.2
gnome-power-manager 2.20.0-0ubuntu6
/apps/gnome-power-manager/lock/hibernate: true
/apps/gnome-power-manager/lock/suspend: true
/apps/gnome-power-manager/lock/use_screensaver_settings: false

Is there a newer package with the fix included, or does this bug need
re-opening?

[Bug 161779] anjuta 2.2.2-1 FTBFS, missing automake1.9

2007-11-09 Thread Emilio Pozuelo Monfort
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: anjuta

anjuta 2.2.2-1 failed to build from source, although it built fine in
pbuilder. It was built in pbuilder with the satisfy-depends-gdebi, but
changing to satisfy-depends fails to build too. It was probably
installing recommended packages, and that's why it didn't build in the
builders.

in the same server, I get a consistent performance of near 13 MB/s. Even
more extrange is that, when I do two parallel Samba downloads for the
same file, I get two downloads of 13 MB/s (~26 MB/s). If I check with
three files of 100 MB, the downloads boast a speed ~36 MB/s for the
three downloads. With four files, the performance is ~40 MB/s (near FTP
