[Bug 163283] Re: [SRU/Gutsy]: Two patches for gtkpod-aac
** Description changed: Binary package hint: gtkpod-aac This is a combination of #135178 and #145506, being handled as one SRU for timeliness. They are independent patches and I will detail testing information for both. + + === Streamlined Verification Procedures === + This procedure will test both bugs at the same time. + + (1) Move any existing ~/.gtkpod to somewhere else as a backup + (2) Start gtkpod + (3) Click Local on the left pane + (4) On the toolbar, hit Add File + (5) Find a .mp4 .m4v or .m4a file and add it. Google filetype:m4a for sample files + + EXPECTED BEHAVIOR: + File is added and now shows up in the local repository + DEFECTIVE BEHAVIOR: + (1) If #145506 is unfixed, an error dialog pops up asking you to insert the iPod assocated with the repository first. Of course, there's no iPod associated with a local repo + (2) If #135178 is unfixed, an error dialog pops up saying there is no support for .mp4 format. + PERTAINING TO #135178 = The new upstream gtkpod release tries to implement the "Group" metadata field for MP4, which requires a newer libmp4v2 than Gutsy has. This causes ./configure to build without AAC/MP4 support. The patch I provide reverts to previous Gtkpod behavior of ignoring the "Group" metadata tag for .mp4 files. TEST CASE: Try to use gtkpod to add a .mp4 file onto an iPod. EXPECTED BEHAVIOR: Gtkpod adds the file to your iPod DEFECTIVE BEHAVIOR: Gtkpod informs user that it was compiled without mp4 support. ALTERNATE TEST (i.e. non iPod owners): Look at build log output at the end of ./configure phase EXPECTED BEHAVIOR: ./configure reports that it will build with MP4/AAC support DEFECTIVE BEHAVIOR: ./configure reports that it will build without MP4/AAC support This description was updated. = PERTAINING TO #145506 === DESCRIPTION: Newly created local repositories are not set as "imported" internally, which causes gtkpod to output a nonsensical error about inserting an iPod (which doesn't exist for local repos at all) before adding tracks. A patch was picked out of gtkpod's svn that addresses this issue specifically by setting the local repositories' "imported" flag. VERIFICATION: (no iPod necessary) Remove ~/.gtkpod -- that is, start with a fresh configuration. Open up Gtkpod and click the Local repository. On the tool bar, click either Add File or Add Dir EXPECTED BEHAVIOR: A dialog comes up to choose what to add DEFECTIVE BEHAVIOR: An error box pops up asking you to insert an iPod. -- [SRU/Gutsy]: Two patches for gtkpod-aac https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/163283 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 163037] Re: Many applications of universe are neglected and produce frustration in users
Wow! Zim gets almost no bug triage. Still, the bugs against zim are actionable, whereas this bug is not as originally stated. Separately, I think there is likely value in finding a way to determine the set of applications that are useless or don't work, and that noticing when users install them, and immediately uninstall them can help, and that this data could be used to generate a blacklist for released packages. I just don't think that a bug is the way to fix that: it needs more thought and discussion, and affects lots of places (multiple packages, possible privacy concerns for collecting user data, changes to the repository management system, etc.). As such, generating a specification is more likely to provide a useful response by people who might be able to implement such a system. -- Many applications of universe are neglected and produce frustration in users https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/163037 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 162795] Re: Cannot rename files with Traditional Chinese in Nautilus
Testing has shown Nautilus to be very inconsistent with operation. Sometimes input will work in Chinese and sometimes no input will be accepted at all. For instance swapping between gedit and nautilius can sometimes make input work. Sometimes when swapping back and forth between gedit and nautilus with a F2 rename file box open all the text input that did not appear will suddenly appear. I have currently downgraded all boxes to dual-boot Feisty/Gutsy. Downgrading Nautilus in Gutsy didn't work out too well to test, the window would just vanish when doing anything. ** Summary changed: - Cannot rename files with zh_HK locale in Nautilus + Cannot rename files with Traditional Chinese in Nautilus ** Description changed: Binary package hint: nautilus - Ubuntu 7.10 with locale set to zh_HK.UTF-8. + Ubuntu 7.10 with locale set to zh_HK.UTF-8 or zh_TW.UTF-8 Similar to Bug #94841, with Nautilus on the desktop of browsing folders files can be renamed with the default input method (English). If the input method is changed to Traditional Chinese / Quick I can no longer enter or delete any characters using the keyboard. The keyboard still works with the Nautilus UI, and the mouse can be used to cut and paste text in the name box. After this has occurred even selecting the default input method will no longer work, the user has to log out and log back in again to rename files. Renaming on the console works fine. Logging in with English locale and starting up SCIM and entering Chinese - works fine. Similarly using zh_TW (Taiwan) works fine. + works fine. -- Cannot rename files with Traditional Chinese in Nautilus https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/162795 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 163283] [SRU/Gutsy]: Two patches for gtkpod-aac
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gtkpod-aac This is a combination of #135178 and #145506, being handled as one SRU for timeliness. They are independent patches and I will detail testing information for both. PERTAINING TO #135178 = The new upstream gtkpod release tries to implement the "Group" metadata field for MP4, which requires a newer libmp4v2 than Gutsy has. ** Affects: gtkpod-aac (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [SRU/Gutsy]: Two patches for gtkpod-aac https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/163283 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 155458] Re: Strange behaviour switching users
Also running Gutsy Gibbon (Ubuntu 7.10) for Intel PCs, nVidia driver, all up-to-date. Similar problem. When switching from user 1 (a non-administrative user) to user 2 (administrative permission user) and back to user 1, I get a blank off-white (or very pale brown) screen with mouse pointer arrow, but nothing else. I got out of it by exiting X using ctrl-alt-backspace, which put me back at a login screen. This blank screen appears to be the same as I get when I switch using Ctrl-Alt-F9. (For me, Ctrl-Alt-F7 gets a black screen.) I haven't tried switching to the X system screen using Ctrl-Alt-F10, but I'll try that and let you know in a follow-up comment. If I switch user while Firefox still is running a window on user 1, I can login as user 2, but the system monitor shows that some processes are taking a lot of cpu time even though I'm doing nothing as user 2. Running "top" from a terminal window then shows that the Firefox and compiz processes are running and consuming most of the cpu time, doing who knows what in the invisible background instead of sleeping. Maybe the Firefox is continuing to run some animations on the web page it's displaying. When I return to user 1, there is no Firefox window. If I run Firefox then, it starts by telling me that it was not shut down correctly and asking if I want the old session restored or instead to start a new session. So, it appears that before switching user I'll have to close all open windows (not just minimize them). -- Strange behaviour switching users https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/155458 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I have a Toshiba M200 tablet with the same problem. Is this is a kernel problem rather than a Wacom driver problem. [ 1024.204000] ttyS0: LSR safety check engaged! Googling that message seems to indicate that the reason the pen no longer works is that the serial port is no longer being detected after the resume. I totally agree with the original poster and I suggest you make it an option in Synaptic preferences. [Bug 163275] dkim-filter docs may have incorrect postfix config
Public bug reported: I'm new to dkim-filter, so hopefully someone with more knowledge can validate this. I've installed the package under gutsy, and am reading /usr/share/doc/dkim-filter/README.Debian.gz Under the section "Notes for Ubuntu specific changes" it is suggested to add milter_macro_daemon_name = SIGNING to main.cf. As I understand it, this macro setting is only meaningful if the dkim- filter daemon is actually watching for macros (the -M flag). As far as I can tell, setting -M in dkim-filter is not done anywhere in ubuntu's package, so adding it to main.cf without also instructing the user to change the default dkim config to include it is pointless. ** Affects: dkim-milter (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- dkim-filter docs may have incorrect postfix config https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/163275 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
