[Bug 164126] Re: no shortcuts information on the desktop effects ui
I was intrigued enough by this suggestion to make a mockup. Clicking on an option on the right side would play a video on the box. The video would give a tutorial of the features in each section. *None would describe the metacity shortcuts. *Normal would describe the default compiz shortcuts. *Extra would describe the extra shortcuts enabled (like shift-switcher). *Not sure what custom would do yet. Clicking preview would play the video in fullscreen mode. If possible maybe the video could be made on the spot, using the users current configuration. I don't know if the world is yet ready for this layout. =) But as I said earlier I'll have to close this bug. [Bug 139337] Re: after upgrading from feisty to gutsy, /dev/mapper no longer contains my LVM volume group
My Fiesty->Gutsy Upgrade wouldn't let me back in after the screensaver kicked in. I had to hard shutdown my machine. Here's an email I just sent to some of my friends (the irony that I've all typed up for you already. LOL) 1. I booted with the Xubuntu 7.10 alternate CD started rescue mode. No sense going back. 2. I chose my / partition for the shell and manually mounted all my Logical Disks to there respective mount points (/usr, so forth.) which used /dev/mapper/vg_pool-lv_usr convention 3. I ran `apt-get upgrade` which after a while told me to run ` dpkg --configure -a`. That completed the Upgrade. 4. When it rebooted, it still gave me the error about not finding or cannot e2fsck the LVM devices 5. I checked the /etc/fstab which had them as /dev/mapper/vg_pool-lv_usr (and so forth). When I `ls /dev/mapper` their names had changed to /dev/mapper/lvm2|vg_pool|lv_usr (dashes were now vertical pipes with an extra bit of stuff in the front. What the ??? ) 6. Backed up my fstab and made the corrections with nano editor (no vi available) 7. It's alive. ... Well, mostly. I have to manually drop back a kernel version to my old version. I guess I still need to do that upgrade from 2.6.16 to 2.6.20. Hopefully, I won't kill it again. I'll be doing it in single user mode. So apparently, there was some changes to LVM from the "volume groups - logical volumes" to "disk mgmt | vg | lv". That makes sense so enterprise and other folks can start mixing legacy and future LVM revisions. UPDATE: I booted the machine with the previous kernel 2.6.16, did an `init 1` for single user. I then re-ran `apt-get upgrade` followed by ` dpkg --configure -a` again. Guess there was some more configuring to do. At the very end it generated the /boot/initrd.img-2.6.22-14-generic. Now I can boot just fine. Now I need to figure out why my X.org is consuming 100% - 135% utilization on my dual core. Hope this helps you out. [Bug 163530] Re: FTBFS: asis_2005-5 on hardy/i386
Thank you for the debdiff. As asis is building libasis-dev, I'd much prefer a patch to the build system that used the internal implementation to meet the build dependency, rather than build-depending on the last version of the package. I'm not certain that the proposed solution will continue to work properly if asis is upgraded to a new upstream version. If this doesn't prove possible, it may be required to bootstrap, but I suspect it would benefit from some API test or double-build to ensure that the released asis-programs is compiled against the internal libasis-dev, rather than the one used for the bootstrap. ** Changed in: asis (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Medium -- FTBFS: asis_2005-5 on hardy/i386 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/163530 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thanks for this bug report. Did you test this multiple times with Gutsy? Sometimes a computer will do a complete BIOS test before booting the HD and this is normal. [Bug 136822] Re: One broken USB storage device can hang the entire USB subsystem
I can help you debug this for only about another week -- I've borrowed the external disk drives that make it fail reliably, and I'll have to return them soon. I'm happy to help debug it, and almost as happy to let it go for another day, if you can't get to this in time. I'm a free software volunteer author too. Any suggestions on what I should do next? I can reproduce the hang; what data can I gather during the hang that would help you? The system runs fine except that when a process touches the failing USB disk device, or mounted filesystem, it hangs. Most of those hangs can be interrupted with a kill -9, but not all. [Bug 62986] Re: debconf-apt-progress hangs sometimes on SMP systems due to racy debconf protocol handling
Hi all, I just found this via Google. Was attempting a net install to a Pentium 4 I just got. The first failure bricked the box. Now I set up pxe server and it has frozen again. First time was at 5%, now at 6%. Was using ubuntu gutsy alt cd and this time, xubuntu alt cd from the pxe server. Not real sure how to go forward. Will keep trying. Next, will try to tell it to read from the CD-ROM (which the bios/mo-board cannot boot from). If there is a way I can give more info, please reply. Oh, wait... [Bug 111988] Re: When I try to start azureus I get: "exec: 40: java: not found"
Thanks for this bug report In order to work, azureus needs a Java environment. Most probably that Stephan didn't have java configured correctly the first time. rubbsdecvik : In order to get more information about your problem, can you do this : 1. Install/Reinstall sun-java6-jre | You can do this by typing this on a terminal "sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jre" 2. Configure your system to use Java | Tou can do this by typing this on a temrinal "sudo update-alternatives --config java" and choose the Sun java in the list After these 2 steps, can you confirm if you still have this issue? [Bug 158989] Re: local device not working on some client
This is happening seemingly randomly for me too. The contents of /var/run/ltspfs_fstab on the thin client is very similar to that shown by Enrico. In my case, ssh -S /var/run/ldm_socket_vt7_192.168.141.254 192.168.141.254 "/usr/sbin/ltspfsmounter /tmp add" yields the same response: X connection to localhost:10.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown). Error: /tmp/.username-ltspfs/tmp is not mounted Running mount on the server shows an entry for the next terminal to mine, where local devices work: ltspfs on /tmp/.hall2-ltspfs/floppy0 type fuse.ltspfs (rw,nosuid,nodev,user=hall2) /tmp/.hall2-ltspfs/floppy0 on /media/hall2/floppy0 type none (rw,bind) But there is no entry for mine or other logged-on terminals. On other days it has been a different terminal that works. I speculate that it might be the first to log on that works, and the rest do not. I will explore that. The /tmp/.-ltspfs/ folder contains a folder with the name of the device that won't mount, but no contents (and another for tmp, after the ssh debugging command above). -- local device not working on some client https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/158989 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 127101] Re: laptop hangs when switching video mode
Hi! Not sure, if this will help you, but I can confirm this behaviour exactly on a HP Laptop (G 6000 series, G 6050EG) with NVIDIA graphics card with only shared memory. It happens with the nv as well with binary nvidia driver (from repositorys and from the website). I think it's related to ACPI, BIOS, IRQ stuff etc. Just guessing. Very strange for me was, when typing e.g. "ls -la" in an non-graphical VT. By the third time doing this, the laptop would definitely freeze, no Sysrq, nothing. Can hear the hard drive shortly than the fan goes on, then no proof of liffe anymore. Just hard-reboot. Also it happened when disabling the framebuffer with fb=false vga=normal. I works for a while quite well when booting with (nosplash) noapic nolapic noapm pnpbios=off pci=conf1 noirqdebug Sometimes VTs are still messed up, not readable text or just frame buffer "snow" and then freeze again. Hope this information can help you. I guess this bug is not completely intel-driver-related, as my experience was. Can someone clarify how to fix this? - Upgraded a perfectly working Edgy to Gutsy, then the problems with the colors while playing movies started - Using the intel driver - problems occur in all video players I use (vlc & totem) - problems occur regardless of the "desktop effects" setting TIA -- totem overrides XV_CONSTRAST to wrong default value (Xv movies on i810/i945 have horrible colour/gamma) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/32963 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 162971] Re: Default image viewer (Eye of Gnome) can't load JPEG exports from default PDF viewer (Evince)
Upon further review, it appears that Evince is not exporting the file to the extension named. In this instance, choosing the "Save as..." in Evince failed to save the image as a JPG and wrote it as a PNG (probably the source image format in the PDF.) Is this in fact perhaps two possible bugs?
