[Bug 164275] Black screen with 1x PowerColor x800GT graphics card
Public bug reported: This is from this post on the Ubuntu forums: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=618205 Specs: 2x 160GB WD SATA 3 GB/s 16MB drives (One drive is where the windows install is, and the other is for my music library. Both are single partition drives.) 1x 80GB Samsung SATA 3 GB/s drive (I deleted the former windows partiton from this drive in the disk manager and did not format it. This is also the drive I want to install Ubuntu on.) AMD Athlon XP 3000+ 64 bit processor Asus A8N SLI-Deluxe Mobo 1x PowerColor x800GT graphics card X-fi Xtreme Music sound card 2GB (4x512MB) Corsair ValueSelect DDR 400 RAM DVD/CDRW drive Floppy Viewsonic VA702b 17 monitor Okay, so on to the troubles I'm having. I downloaded 7.1 I grabbed the 64 bit version and wasn't sure if that was the right decision or not. Basically I burned the ISO onto a CD, ran the CD in windows and then rebooted, changing the BIOS to load from CD before loading from an hdd. When I selected install / run it spools the progress bar then the screen switches to a screen that flashes too quickly for me to be able to read it (like some BIOS screens) then my monitor goes black. The computer is still on, but I have an amber light on the monitor. It momentarily says no signal on the monitor before it goes to the black screen w/ the amber light by the way. When I tried to verify the CD it did the exact same thing. I tried switching around how I had the hdd's connected to the mobo and had the same issues. It didn't even boot into the safe graphics mode. The user then installed Mandriva Linux which worked. Does the Ubuntu Live CD come with the ATI proprietary drivers or not? How is it possible that the safe graphics mode doesn't work if the loading bar is correctly displayed? I'm not sure if posting this here as a bug was the right thing to do, but I think that not even being able to use the Live CD in safe graphics mode is a big problem. (I actually also have a problem with the Gutsy Live CD: Bug #133192, but safe graphics mode works at least.) Why doesn't the Live CD also offer a text installation mode? ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Black screen with 1x PowerColor x800GT graphics card https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/164275 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 71004] Re: [kubuntu edgy and feisty] usplash_down causes shutdown to hang
Op woensdag 21 november 2007, schreef Matt Zimmerman: At what point during shutdown does it hang? Is it when usplash_down runs, or sometime earlier or later? The white screen shows up when changing the graphics/resolution when changing from X tot usplash or from uspslash to text (so at different times). It should have something to do with how the graphics of the usplash screen is done in relation to these specific graphical cards/drivers. The behavior of this bug is inconsequent. Sometimes shutting down goes allright (in my case). Most times not. It very much looks like that the driver/graphical card ends up in an undifined state where it was not designed for (so dangerous). What happens is that the screen get's black and then slowly get's more and more bright (as if it's black but with very bright settings). I think you 'll need the propper hardware to test and solve this one (e.g. Toshiba satelite). I do prevere to see what's loaded and unloaded so I didn't pay recent attention to the usplash bug. [Bug 158202] Re: Ubuntu installer crashes to a blank screen
Colin, yes this sounds muchly like bug 127008 (install from alternate CD + issue during configuration of xserver-xorg). In fact I anticipated this might occur: One thing I've wondered is other laptops with different gfx chipsets may be experiencing problems like these (but with different symptoms.) So, it'd be good to keep an eye out for any bugs that are occurring for non-intel laptops doing the alternate text install and appearing late in the install process; we could expand this patch to include those cases as well. I suspect this may be one of those cases. Mike Chapman, can you please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn`? I'll use review this to determine your graphics chipset, and adjust xresprobe to also apply our fix for it. Of course, for Hardy, it's likely we'll end up dropping use of xresprobe entirely, thus making this issue irrelevant, but I'd still like to ensure we have everything to fix the bug even if we don't drop xresprobe, for completeness' sake. -- Ubuntu installer crashes to a blank screen https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/158202 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 152463] Re: Suspend/Resume stops working if the ATI restricted driver is enabled
After upgrading to Gutsy, suspend/resume (ram disk) does NOT work anymore on my Acer Ferrari 4005. Currently, I can't see a relation to the ATI restricted drivers, because I tested without the drivers in init=/bin/sh state and have very similar behavior: I'm initiating suspend with s2both. The machine displays suspend information and finally shuts down (power led blinking orange). Pressing any key after that DOES awake the system, but screen remains blank. However, as HDD LED indicates the OS has been revived and a CTRL-ALT-DEL does shutdown/reboot eventually. Conclusion: I suspect not the ATI drivers being source of the problem but a general (kernel) problem!? As already mentioned, this worked perfectly with Feisty, so something must have changed with the Update which broke suspend/resume on this platform. This is with linux-image-2.6.22-14-generic. [Bug 93360] Re: Dhcdbd: message_handler: message handler not found under /com/redhat/dhcp/eth1 for sub-path eth1.dbus.get.reason
I use ADSL via external wireless router which work as DHCP-server. My errors was gone after following changes: 1) I removed link-local 169.254.0.0 from /etc/networks file. (I use DHCP so probably I dont need it). 2) I add eth0 to /etc/network/interfaces file (before eth0 found automaticly) and see dhcp parameter. auto eth0 iface eth0 inet dhcp I make both changes same time so I dont know which effect this error. I feel 2nd change should be enough. Problems looks related too early network trafic before box have correct IP address from DHCP server. [Bug 164290] nvidia driver selects non-existing CRT monitor as default instead of the DFP on the laptop
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg After updating to the nvidia driver the screen went blank (though I could head the gdm boot sound). After looking into a terminal in the Xorg logs I noticed the nvidia module was detecting two displays: CRT and DFP (DFP-0 actually). Note that there was no second display connected to the laptop. Furthermore, the module selected the CRT as the default display, hance the blank screen. I had to hand-edit the xorg.conf file and added the option ConnectedMonitor DFP. This seems to fix the problem. Please note that the display worked just fine with the default (nv I assume) driver and the proprietary nvidia module also worked just fine on Ubuntu 6.06. This only seems to happen on Ubuntu 7.10. The machine is an old Dell C840 with an nvidia card. ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- nvidia driver selects non-existing CRT monitor as default instead of the DFP on the laptop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/164290 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
