[Bug 157777] Re: gutsy amd64 freeze crash lockup

2008-01-01 Thread fisuk
I compiled kernel 2.6.24-rc5 (vanilla) manually about few weeks ago and haven't
had any problems since. What I've noticed after the update is that now I'm
getting all these messages about npviewer.bin (=nspluginwrapper) segfaulting.
And that's something that did not happen using the stock kernel.
Does anyone get these messages using the stock kernel or did I just enable some
oddball debug flag?

[Bug 179506] Re: Banshee doesn't play anything

2008-01-01 Thread Chirea Mircea
Heh, to my surprise, when Installed OSS v4 with my script
(http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=655100), I tried to see if
Banshee works. So it's really not a Banshee problem, or a Totem one
(though I installed the xine variant of it), it's an ALSA one, and as I
can't have more than 2 sound sources pumping at a time (one directly,
one via alsa-oss), Banshee couldn't play. But as OSS can handle multiple
sources nicely, I have no problem.

the purpose of the volum switch and set it to Master. Its a rather
tricky menu that i never really understood before now, it should be
changed. Or at least added a description,

[Bug 179660] New versions of packages are not backported

2008-01-01 Thread David Nemeskey
Public bug reported:

While using Ubuntu, I bump into this problem again and again. Let's take
an example: the VICE Commodore emulator. The version in the Gutsy
repository is 1.20, even when version 1.22 is also out. What's more, it
is included in Hardy!

Now, why do I have to upgrade my WHOLE operating system (note: Hardy is
not even alpha), just to receive a new version? I have downloaded the
source, and it compiled perfectly under Gutsy. So what is the reason
behind not including it into Gutsy?

And VICE isn't the only such application. Other examples can be found in
bugs #52169, #2596 and #129043. And I am sure there are many more. UQM
was also like this around Dapper/Edgy.

Now, I may understand that packages upon which other packages depend are
not upgraded / backported. However, we are talking about end-
applications here (apps in the bug reports above, VICE and UQM are like
that, too). Nothing would break if you upgraded them whenever a new
version came out. Ok, don't do this for LTS releases; but for others,
please, update the stable versions, and don't force your users to use
outdated software.

[Bug 155894] Re: Can't play realaudio

2008-01-01 Thread Austin
Thanks for adding that output. I need to look into it more but the
important line in the debugging is:

0:00:00.505159000 6509 0x8149938 DEBUG realaudiodec
gstrealaudiodec.c:340:gst_real_audio_dec_setcaps:realaudiodec0 Could

or directory-negotiated

I take it you don't have a file called /usr/lib/win32/cook.so.6.0?

Try typing locate cook.so.6.0 to see if you have it at all.

Someone had a similar problem with xine:

https://plf.zarb.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=21

But I don't know enough at the moment to know if they are actually
related.

This would also explain why you seem to have a generally working sound
system, yet .rm files don't work in the playbin.

[Bug 179552] Re: gnome-session hangs on log in

2008-01-01 Thread Pär Lidén
I've tried to find out which programs constitute to those pids in
.xsession-errors, but I've been unable to find out that. However. if the
pid of gnome-session is x, then the first of the pids in .xsession-
errors is a little bit higher than x, maybe x+[34], and the and the next
is maybe x + [8-10].

I wrote a small shell script that would do ps ax to a file every 0.01
second, and between two file outputs, it seems that those pid hase
managed to both start and disappear, so it happens very fast. What is
very odd, is that once when I did ran this script and logged in, it did
work! Then I immediately logged out and in, and since then it has not
worked again. :-(

ps ax reveals that gconfd-2 is running, with pid=x + ~50-60, and gnome-
keyring-daemon, pid = x - [1-3]

Hope this could be of some relevance. What would probably be helpful is
to found out which programs constitute to those pids, but I am not
skilled enough in Linux to find out that by myself unfortunately. Could
anyone please tell me how to find out this?

[Bug 179664] Rhythmbox does not display track numbers of WMA files

2008-01-01 Thread Lukas Winter
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I use Rhythmbox 0.11.2 on Ubuntu 7.10, German translation.
RB does not show the track number of wma files in the track list, instead the
field is blank. When I open the properties window of one of these songs, it
reports the track number as unknown. It does, however, sort all tracks of this
album (which consists only of wma files) correctly.
I suppose that RB uses a different character encoding for track numbers than
these WMA files. The information must be known to RB, because the songs are in
the right order and not arranged alphabetically.

[Bug 40950] Re: sitecopy - sftp protocol doesn't work with openssh 1.4.2pl-1

2008-01-01 Thread yannek
I'd like to have this bug reopend, as the namly problem occurs again with the
1:0.16.3-10 version. It got fixed _again_ in the -13 revision.(According to
Ubuntu and Debian changelogs.)
That causes it to be broken again with gutsy.
An update to hardy is not a sensible option yet. A backported fix would be
highly appreciated.

A hearty Thank you! in advance.

[Bug 178702] Re: Please sync xfonts-wqy 0.9.9-2 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2008-01-01 Thread Ming Hua
I am rejecting this bug as I've just uploaded 0.9.9-2ubuntu1, merging
Debian changes and adding proper conffile handling.

The changelog is:

xfonts-wqy (0.9.9-2ubuntu1) hardy; urgency=low

  * Merge from Debian unstable, dropping all previous Ubuntu changes:
- Build-depend on xfonts-utils ( 4.0.3). Hardy has high enough version
so the version requirement can be dropped.
- Build-depend on debhelper (= 5.0.7) instead of (= 5.0.31). This is an
error in previous merges, because debhelper (= 5.0.31) is needed for
dh_installxfonts to recognize the new font layout used in X11R7.
- Install fonts in /usr/share/X11/fonts/misc/ directory instead of
/usr/share/fonts/X11/misc/. This is a completely bogus change, as
pre-X11R7 layout uses /usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc/, and new layout uses
  /usr/share/fonts/X11/misc/ as Debian specified. The
/usr/share/X11/fonts/misc/ directory doesn't seem to be recognized by
anything. This change actually breaks the package because fonts.dir and
fonts.alias files are not automatically generated, and X won't load the
  fonts from the wrong directory.
  * Move old conffile handling from postinst script to preinst script. Also
check if the conffile is locally modified. If it is, back it up and tell
the user to review the local changes and add it to the new conffile
instead of just delete it. (Debian bug #457423)
  * Change the Maintainer field in debian/control to Ubuntu MOTU Developers,
and move Debian's maintainer to XSBC-Original-Maintainer field, according
to the specification.

Please sync mantis 1.0.8-4 (universe) from Debian unstable (main).
Changelog since current hardy version 1.0.8-3:

mantis (1.0.8-4) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Made package work with webservers different than apache2:
+ Changed depend on apache2 to depend on either apache or
any other httpd via the httpd meta package.
+ Changed depend on libapache2-mod-php5 to depend on either that
 or the php5-cli package.
(Closes: #407824)
  * Made depend on php5-cli a suggestion instead, because its only needed for a
few optional scripts.
  * Fixed security issue CVE SA28185 (Closes: #458377)
  * Updated Standards Version

[Bug 179669] libpcre3-dev is out of sync with libpcre3 in hardy repositories

2008-01-01 Thread Jacques Beaurain
Public bug reported:

To reproduce:

apt-get install libpcre3-dev

Result:

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  libpcre3-dev: Depends: libpcre3 (= 7.3-2ubuntu1) but 7.4-0ubuntu0.7.10.1 is
to be installed
Depends: libpcrecpp0 (= 7.3-2ubuntu1) but 7.4-0ubuntu0.7.10.1

[Bug 147045] Re: gnome-appearance-properties hogs processor even after close

2008-01-01 Thread Pierre-Charles David
I have the same behaviour as Raymond: removing ~/.gtkrc-2.0 solves the
issue.

I've done a few more experiments:
1. If .gtkrc-2.0 exists but is empty, the bug does not appear.
2. If I launch gnome-appearance-properties with a non-empty .gtkrc-2.0 file,
the bug triggers every time. Once it is triggered, if I remove the .gtkrc-2.0
file or empty it while g-a-p is still running (either the window is still open
or I closed it but g-a-p is still running), g-a-p reacts almost immediately and
the CPU goes back to 0%.
3. If I launch g-a-p with no (or an empty) .gtkrc-2.0 file, the bug is not
triggered, even if I create the file once it is running.

[Bug 178213] Re: When playing CDs, hitting play always starts at track one

2008-01-01 Thread redlizard
Same problem here in SJ 2.20.1 ubuntu 7.10. It also occurs when double
clicking a track other than track 1 to start playback, though tracks can
be changed as expected once playback has started.

Additionally, once track one has finished, the program skips to the
track after the selected one, not track 2, after track 1 has finished
playing.

2008-01-01 Thread Michael Bienia
You have libpcre3 from gutsy-security installed, so either downgrade
libpcre3 and libpcrecpp0 to the version currently in hardy or grab also
libpcre3-dev from gutsy-security.

[Bug 147045] Re: gnome-appearance-properties hogs processor even after close

2008-01-01 Thread Pierre-Charles David
I've been able to narrow the problem a little more. It seems the actual
line in my .gtkrc-2.0 which causes the problem is the following:

include /usr/share/themes/Clearlooks/gtk-2.0/gtkrc

If I start g-a-p with a .gtkrc-2.0 containing this line (alone or with
the rest of my original file), the bugs triggers every time, and the CPU
goes to 100%. If I overwrite the .gtkrc-2.0 file while g-a-p is hung
with a version without the line, the CPU goes back to ~0%, and g-a-p
exits correctly.

I've attached strace to g-a-p while it is hung, at it seems caught in a
loop. I've attached the fragment of the trace which is repeated
endlessly (I don't know which line can be considered the beginning of
the loop though).

** Attachment added: Fragment of a trace repeated by g-a-p when the bug is
triggered.
