[Bug 180746] very curious e-mail income / trash behavior ;-(

2008-01-05 Thread Albert Martin S
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Hello Evolution Team
I am a newbie with Ubuntu 7.10 and Evolution,
so please excuse me for not reporting mannerly ;-)

Please do excuse me for my weak (Swiss-German-) English too ;-))

Recently I notice a very boring and curious behavior with my Evolution:

1a) Receiving / Sending e-mails downloads and places mostly of my messages in
TRASH !!??
1b) Why ??
1c) Yes, I do some filterings and hope they are not wrong !?

2a) Copying / moving messages to another well structured folder location also
places a copy to TRASH !!!
2b) Why ??
2c) I find this very very boring and disturbing, because with some downloaded
messages
and nothing appearing in the Inbox I have to search and investigate where they
gone !
Mostly I find them in TRASH ;-|
Marking some of them as "NO Junk" dose not show any reaction and
I need to move them to the Inbox manually ;-((

Are you knowing about such/these problems and
how can I overcome it ?

TIA for your hopefully positive answer with
best regards, Albert

PS1: All mail accts are simply POP accts !

PS2 - One more question regarding Evolution's Preferences:
After setting up some accts and then adding additional accts the sort isn't
proper anymore !
How do I get them properly resorted after adding some more accts ?

BTW: I also noticed that Evolution checks the e-mail accts from the bottoms up
!!
Why ??

I would prefer a check and selection from top to bottom ...
... like from first to last one and NOT opposite !!??

[Bug 180747] network-manager-vpnc locks the vpn config dialog after import

2008-01-05 Thread Matt Trudel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager-vpnc

Fairly easy to reproduce: network-manager-vpnc, once it has imported a
pcf file, will not allow you to edit the vpn configuration until you've
closed the profile selection dialog and reopened it.

steps to reproduce:

1) create a vpn configuration.
2) close the dialog to go back to profile selection
3) click export, save to a pcf file where it can be retrieved easily
4) click add, follow the steps to import the file you just saved
5) rename the connection to something new
6) save and close the dialog
7) click edit on the connection just created.

At this point, the connection that was just imported has all the items
in its dialog in a disabled state, greyed out. All other profiles also
have the same behaviour.

Workaround: you can close all the dialogs including the profile selector
dialog, and reopen it to get back to a state were the profiles can be
edited.

[Bug 180745] cronolog doesn't support files larger than 2GB

2008-01-05 Thread Carlo Marcelo Arenas Belon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cronolog

problem is that cronolog doesn't open the log files using LFS and is
therefore limited by the max size of an int in all 32 bit architectures.

this is a known problem in debian for several years as can be seen by :

  http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=440152
  http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=304626

and has been reported upstream and available from there with a proposed
fix as can be seen in :

  http://cronolog.org/patches/cronolog-large-file-patch.txt

to reproduce : in a 32bit architecture (like i386)

$ cat /dev/zero | cronolog log
$ echo $?

$ stat -c "%s" log
2147483647

it affects all versions of cronolog released

The `listings' package is a source code printer for LaTeX.
You can typeset stand alone files as well as listings with
an environment similar to `verbatim' as well as you can

[Bug 180743] crash notification pops up repeatedly

2008-01-05 Thread Alex Mauer
Public bug reported:

When the tray icon for "crash report detected" pops up the "bubble"
notification, clicking the close button on that notification closes it
but then it pops up again and again and again. It should only be
necessary to close it once.

Amateur diagnosis (guess) of the problem:
the crash report detection system uses some method to watch a directory for
changes. (inotify on /var/crash?). As the crash report file is written, it
changes multiple times. Each time it changes, the crash report detection
system is notified of the change. And each time it is notified, it pops up the
notification bubble.

Well, I have some good news. :-) Hardy Heron Alpha 2 LiveCD installed
just fine this time. Recently the problem hasn't been during install
with the live cd, but with booting into the system after install. With
Alpha 2 everything seems to work great!

If possible though I'd like to hold off closing this bug until further
into development or the final release. We've had things working during
development before, only to have them broken for the final release.
That's just my opinion - you guys are the bosses.

If there's any logs or anything you need from me, let me know and I'll
get them for you.

Re: [Bug 91825] Re: kvpnc does not disconnect from VPN (fix available upstream)

2008-01-05 Thread Olek Wojnar
Honestly, I haven't tried using kvpnc since Network Manager got the
capability to do VPN. Let's try to install it again and see what happens...

Ok, reinstalled kvpnc v 0.8.9-1. It successfully connects to the VPN
now, but when I try to open Terminal Server Client (tsclient
0.148-3ubuntu1) it times out trying to connect. Connection works
normally when connected to the VPN through Network Manager. If you have
any other fixes or new versions available I'll be happy to try them out
and let you know if they work.

[Bug 148468] Re: network-manager-vpnc doesn't work with networks using NULL encryption

2008-01-05 Thread Matt Trudel
I've also looked at this issue and wrote a patch that adds an option in
the configuration window for the VPN connection to enable/disable
allowing null encryption. It also obviously works for exporting to pcf
(as a X-NM flag, though) and importing. I couldn't test it on an actual
vpn tunnel though, but maybe this week I will be able to. I'm very
confident it would work since the options are in the vpnc documentation.

The attached patches fixes the problem by adding a checkbox in the
configuration dialog and activating the required parameters when the
call is passed to vpnc. I'm sorry for the format, it's the copy that
would go as patch 04 in cdbs -- means you also need to have the other
ubuntu patches applied.

Going into Applications/ System Tools/ Configuration Editor/
system/storage/default_options/vfat/mount_options, and then remove the
"usefree" option from the list.
Exit gconf-editor, and try hotplugging your drive again.

This worked for me in Ubuntu 7.10.

[Bug 180709] Re: wireless connection drops for inactivity

2008-01-05 Thread astharot
** Description changed:

  After 5 minutes of inactivity the wireless connection drops.
  If I use the connection for any reason (downloading files, surfing webpages,
etc), it can work for hours without any problem but after just 5 minutes of
inactivity, even though the icon of "connection properties" still shows
connected, I can't download data, connect to router or anything else.
  I noticed that monitors on the icon start blinking continuously.

  After reading all bugs launchpad suggested me before posting this one, I
  noticed I few bug reports that look like mine, but none of them talks
  about inactivity which is exactly my problem.

  A few more details about my hardware / software:

  Notebook Hp pavilion zv5000
  Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4306 802.11b/g Wireless LAN
Controller (rev 03)
  NOT using bcm43xx opensource driver (with this driver I have to be close to
the router: a few meters far from it and no way to get connected).
  USING wireless card drivers bcmwl5 with Ndiswrapper
  Bios updated to latest version

  Ubuntu 7.10
+ Dual boot with Windows Xp Home edition
  Network manager removed
  Connect to a router with static ip and wpa encryption
  Using wpa_supplicant

  Tried booting kernel with "apm=off" but no change.

  Hope not to be wrong, but never experienced this problem with feisty
  fawn or dapper drake

  Thanks.

[Bug 117975] Re: wine guitar pro fonts unreadable

2008-01-05 Thread infurnus
you need to add fonts under ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/fonts

"2- Get some font files from a Windows box (windows/fonts/*.ttf) and
copy them to ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/fonts (assuming you kept the
default wine setttings). I guess you can get the fonts files from
somewhere else, but this is the way I did it."

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=247869

However, the problem becomes now, white numbers. The menu is readable
but the notations are missing I have also copied the entire windows
fonts folder to Program Files/Guitar Pro 5/fonts and
~/.wine/drive_c/windows/fonts. It appears this makes no difference.

[Bug 178945] Re: [hardy] gnome-mag trunk fails to compile

2008-01-05 Thread Tim Watt
I just faced this issue while trying to compile a branch of Evolution on
Hardy.

Following the path in the respective headers, notice:

#define BONOBO_ARG_GET_BOOLEAN(a)   (BONOBO_ARG_GET_GENERAL (a,
TC_CORBA_boolean, CORBA_boolean, NULL))
#define BONOBO_ARG_SET_BOOLEAN(a,v) (BONOBO_ARG_SET_GENERAL (a, v,
TC_CORBA_boolean, CORBA_boolean, NULL))

Note that BONOBO_ARG_*_GENERAL are defined as follows:

#if defined(__GNUC__) && !defined(__STRICT_ANSI__) && !defined(__cplusplus)
#   define BONOBO_ARG_GET_GENERAL(a,c,t,e)   (g_assert
(bonobo_arg_type_is_equal ((a)->_type, c, e)),\
  *((t *)((a)->_value)))
#   define BONOBO_ARG_SET_GENERAL(a,v,c,t,e) (g_assert
(bonobo_arg_type_is_equal ((a)->_type, c, e)),\
  *((t *)((a)->_value)) =
(t)(v))
#else
#   define BONOBO_ARG_GET_GENERAL(a,c,t,e)   (*((t *)((a)->_value)))
#   define BONOBO_ARG_SET_GENERAL(a,v,c,t,e) (*((t *)((a)->_value)) = (v))
#endif

Without digging further--and based on the sample expansion you quotes--
it seems that g_assert is using common do { ... } while(0) macro
pattern, which is making it illegal where it's ending up in the
expression.

The workaround (until the issue is fixed) is to force the #else clause
definitions (or compile in such a way that defines g_assert into
oblivion). In my situation, I copied the above definitions into the app-
specific headers, deleted all the g_asserts, and #undef'ed all the
original macros before I redefined them.

[Bug 180728] firefox crashes when entering address in yahoo maps

2008-01-05 Thread RebelDragon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

Every time I try and use maps.yahoo.com (broadband version) firefox
crashes. This happens when I type in the address a & b as if to get

address it will work. Only when entering two addresses for driving
directions does this happen. My version is 2.0.0.11. Prior versions did
not have this issue.

[Bug 44535] Re: multiple scrollkeeper-update makes apt upgrade very slow

2008-01-05 Thread ski
Just to echo what the others said, especially on old hardware
scrollkeeper takes way longer than it should have to. Since I don't
use yelp at all, my solution was a bit more comprehensive:

sudo dpkg -P yelp ; cd /usr/bin ; sudo mv scrollkeeper-update
scrollkeeper-update.REAL ; sudo ln -s /bin/true scrollkeeper-update ;
sudo find /var/lib/scrollkeeper/ -name \*.xml -type f -exec rm -f '{}'
\;

The link to the spoon has moved:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Spec/UseTheSpoon

But it's old enough now that it has me wondering if a different solution
altogether needs to be cooked up.

Mario,

You should still be able to set /sys/module/hid/parameters/pb_fnmode to
2 and switch the fn key.

You would still need the patch included for the other keyboards to get
the proper function mappings. however, There may be some other changes
required to get those IDs to use the new mappings.

[Bug 179296] Re: Please merge gnome-chemistry-utils 0.8.5-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2008-01-05 Thread Jordan Mantha
I would rather just add on firefox dependencies/dirs/links rather than
replacing iceweasel. There is a chance gobuntu will be using iceweasel
and I feel it's better to keep Debian information where possible.

[Bug 180720] Evolution Can't save account setting (Evolution-Exchange)

2008-01-05 Thread Mark Lai
Public bug reported:

I use Evolution 2.12.1 with an Exchange Account.
Basically everything works find but some minor issue.
I try to set some setting with my account, such as "Set as my default account",

will back to a kind of default setting, no way to change and save them. Not

[Bug 180706] Re: debian/watch missing in xffm-fstab

2008-01-05 Thread Emmet Hikory
This package is scheduled for removal (see bug #180353), and no there is
no value to an updated watch file. Please review the open bugs in a
package when preparing a new revision: it may be that you can integrate
several fixes, and you are less likely to have candidates rejected.

[Bug 180718] Sound disappeared completely after H/W reset

2008-01-05 Thread Ignas
Public bug reported:

H/W reset had to be done after system hung up right after stopping
(ctrl+c) sox (sox -w -r 37000 -c 2 -t ossdsp /dev/dsp2 -t ossdsp
/dev/dsp) while watching TV using tvtime (saa7134). At that point one
client was logged in using LTSP.

When trying to access ALSA playback from mplayer I get a mysterious
"Connection refused" error.

When selecting "NVidia SK8S" (on-board sound chip) for sound playback in
System->Preferences->Sound and testing playback I get the following:
audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audioresample !
gconfaudiosink: Could not open resource for writing.

>From command-line, amixer gives the following.
$ amixer
*** PULSEAUDIO: Unable to connect: Connection refused
amixer: Mixer attach default error: Connection refused

This problem has never happened in my system before. Edgy and Feisty
were playing sound right after install without any configuration
changes. I have a suspicion that something remained locked right before
system reset, but don't know where to look.
