2008-01-22 Thread brettalton
Public bug reported:

In Gutsy, fulled updated to 2008-01-21, using the Move To Another

This only occurs when using Compiz, or Appearance:
Minimal/Standard/Custom

Example:

User/window currently in Desk 2
-
| |x| | |
-

Select Move to Another Workspace: Desk 1

User/window now in Desk 3 (incorrect)
-
| | |x| |
-

Select Move to Another Workspace: Desk 1

User/window now in Desk 1 (correct)
-

I will post a screencast if necessary.

2008-01-22 Thread brettalton
I apologize; I forgot that HTML can't read whitespace... I don't know
how to force space without using nbsp; so pretend each of those
vertical bars represents the beginning and ending of a workspace/desk.
There should be 4 in total.

You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber
 of the bug.

I tried it three ways. The first was using IE in the Windows VM (guest
system). The second was using FireFox in Ubuntu (hist system). Both
times I ended up getting the RPM package from the Adobe web site. The
third time I used Opera in Ubuntu, and got the correct install package
for Windows (manual request was for the Windows 2000 SP4 download). I
suspect that the Adobe web site has a bug in the manual designation
process, and that its automatic recognition of the target machine is
causing problems by overriding the manual selection process. Probably
they do this for IE and FireFox, but do not really interface the same
with Opera, which is not near as popular. But it creates an interesting
test environment for whether the VM or Host OS is detected externally.
This failure could be a problem when trying to download and install
plug-ins automatically if the detection process is incorrect.

[Bug 185000] Can't log in wihout failsafe terminal

2008-01-22 Thread Alexander Rødseth
Public bug reported:

After the latest apt-get upgrade, I can't log in with gdm, kdm or xdm
any more, except when selecting failsafe terminal and starting my
windowmanager manually.

X starts up fine, but only in connection with gdm, kdm or xdm.
startx on the terminal gives an error-message very similar to Bug #183969

To reproduce:
1. Be in GDM
2. Select Fvwm, Xfce, WM2 or any session except failsafe terminal
3. Type in username and password
4. Watch how the screen goes black for a split second and you are returned to
GDM

I've never had any problems of this sort before.

3D-programs doesn't work properly either. glxgears brings me back to GDM
after a split second of the screen going black.
glxinfo and blender works fine.

I have no idea if that's related or not, though.

[Bug 149936] Re: Amarok will not start in Kubuntu Gutsy

2008-01-22 Thread Evgeny Remizov
For me neither of the methods above worked.
The only output is
Amarok: [Loader] Starting amarokapp..
Amarok: [Loader] Don't run gdb, valgrind, etc. against this binary! Use
amarokapp.
Amarok: [Loader] Amarok is taking a long time to load! Perhaps something has
gone wrong?

I could try to debug this if someone shows me how.

[Bug 182996] Re: [hardy] kernel 2.6.24-3-generic #1 SMP -- ide cdrom hdc: status error: error=0x00 { }

2008-01-22 Thread nav
I too am experiencing this in Hardy with 2.6.24 when I was not in Gutsy
merely an hour ago. My optical drive (a Plextor PX-740A, connected as
master to my only IDE controller as /dev/hda) is empty to start with,
refuses to open once in Ubuntu (but works fine elsewhere), and I receive
a large amount of output. All HDDs are connected through SATA and
continue to work properly. This particular Plextor uses a Philips
chipset if I recall correctly, if that matters at all...

[Bug 183480] Re: Xubuntu 7.10: command xflock4 fails

2008-01-22 Thread Gauvain Pocentek
This is because xubuntu uses the gnome screensaver. A workaround would
be to edit /usr/bin/xflock4 to make it use the gnome screensaver (I have
no idea about the command you need though).

[Bug 184065] txfonts bug

2008-01-22 Thread Norbert Preining
Hi all,

there is a bug in txfonts.sty, easily reproducible with:
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{txfonts}
\begin{document}
\verb=\precapprox= prints as \ \ $\precapprox$\\
\verb=\nprecapprox= prints as \ \ $\nprecapprox$\\
\verb=\succapprox= prints as \ \ $\succapprox$\\
\verb=\nsuccapprox= prints as \ \ $\nsuccapprox$
\end{document}

If you compare that with the output using amssymb instead of txfonts you
see that precapprox and succapprox are exchanged. The fix is simple:

--- txfonts.sty.orig2008-01-22 07:42:45.0 +0100

[Bug 177160] Re: External monitor switching dosen't works properly on HP nx9105

2008-01-22 Thread tuharsky
Laptop is HP nx9105 with nVidia NV17 [GeForce4 450 Go 32M] rev.a3

With Gutsy, it is like this:

With distributional X driver:
If the external monitor is plugged in during startup, it works, even Ubuntu
startup logo is OK, until the graphical mode (GDM) is started. Then, blinking
textual nonsense is displayed on the external monitor. Fn-F4 seems to switch to
internal-only, then external-only. When both-monitors is enabled again, the
image on internal LCD is garbled. Seems narrowed by 1/3 and overlayed on right
side.
Interestingly, when the screen is blanked during inactivity, and then restored
(e.q. by moving a mouse), the textual nonse on external monitor is greyscaled.
When rebooting, text mode is entered, so that external monitor can be read
again, however if it faded to the greyscale before, the text is also grey, with
limited visibility.

See pictures attached.

[Bug 184992] Re: Thinkpad T60 [1680x1050], ATIx1400, no X on Gutsy, Hardy

2008-01-22 Thread harry.mangalam
Solved (mostly). Sorry about the confusion. This bug (?) apparently
was caused by a misconfiguration somewhere in the depths of my '.kde'
directory tree. My kmail had begun to act strangely which is why I
tried to upgrade to gutsy. The mistake was revealed when I created a
new user and logged in to test this possibility and all of a sudden, X
started to work perfectly. I experimented with copying various
suspicious files and directories and the .kde dir caused the glitch.
Somewhere in there is a file that corrupts X, but I haven't found it
yet.

ALSO!! Power suspend-to-RAM / recover now works work, and trying to run
google earth causes a crash, but I'll deal with that later. Just glad
to be seeing my laptop alive again. The Synaptics touch pad works as
it's supposed to.

 * Target must be hardy, not unstable
 * Version must be 1.510-2ubuntu1
 * You should modify Maintainer field following these rules:

Also, you may want to install patchutils package to avoid showing

[Bug 184998] Re: Move To Another Workspace: moves to Desk 3 in Desk 2 when selectin Desk 1 in Compiz

2008-01-22 Thread Parthan
I can reproduce this bug in Gutsy, updated to the latest. I

am currently having the browser window in Desk 2. When i right click on
the window title, select Move to Another Workspace Desk 3, instead
of moving to Desk 3 it moves it to Desk 5, which is 3 Desks away from my
current one.

To reconfirm, I opened up a Terminal window in Desk 4, tried moving it
to Desk 2, which moved it to Desk 1 again 2 Desks away from current one.

Hence the behavior is selecting Move to Nth Desk actually moves it to
N Desks away from current one in a loop. I have modified the compiz
effects to have cube effects rather than sliding.

[Bug 185013] oprations on nfs4 mounts hang

2008-01-22 Thread Andreas Schultz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.24

Since 2.6.24-4 nfs4 mounts kind of hang on some operations like a
simple 'ls'

It appears as if some initial operations do work, but then somehow get
stuck.

I have a home directory on an nfs4 mount, kde login works to the point
that the complete desktop is show with all files on it. But then
attempting to open the K Menu hangs. On a parallel console login a
'ls' on the same home directory also hangs indefinitely. The rest of the
system is fine. No error are logged anywhere.

I took a look at the scripts, and it would mean changing them quite a
