[Bug 185839] [NEW] console-tools is deprecated to kbd

2008-01-24 Thread yecril71pl
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: console-tools

README.Debian says:

THE console-tools package is no longer maintained upstream, and is
deprecated, being replaced by the 'kbd' package.

Being replaced where? Because surely not in Ubuntu.

[Bug 147547] Re: Gutsy Beta Installation Problem

2008-01-24 Thread duncang
This may be the same bug as I had and also bugs 154162, 161215, 175822.

Ubuntu 7.10, Gigabyte GA-MA69GM-S2H with ATI X1250. Could not perform
graphical install, text install appears to hang after reboot. Fixed by
installing latest ATI drivers (8.1 Jan 2008 ) and setting default screen
resolution to 1024x768 in /etc/usplash.conf.

Yes it should work on Gusty...
It works for me (VAIO VGN-C2Z_B)

Could you try it? (to see what is wrong, the getbrightness/the set Brightness)

[Bug 121653] Re: [gutsy] fglrx breaks over suspend/resume

2008-01-24 Thread Alexei Colin
System:
Ubuntu Gutsy 7.10 (Kernel 2.6.24-4-generic) on Thinkpad T60, ATI Mobility
Radeon X1400,
ATI's fglrx v8.01, Compiz via AIGLX (xserver-xgl package NOT installed)

Suspend/resume works with Compiz! It takes about 15sec to suspend.

Compiz runs smoothly. BUT
- glxgears - messed up output (not attached to window)
- fgl_glxgears - segmentation fault
- xv video output flickers and is also not attached to window
- x11 output works well

[Bug 109519] Re: tulip0: ***WARNING***: No MII transceiver found! - Automounting of SMB share does not reliably occur on boot

2008-01-24 Thread Kirk Bridger
I'm booting off a brand new gutsy install, and a new motherboard (and
hence network card altogether). At first I thought this problem was not
occurring, but after the last few boots this share is again failing to
mount.

uname -a:
Linux Creativity 2.6.22-14-generic #1 SMP Tue Dec 18 05:28:27 UTC 2007 x86_64
GNU/Linux

The error message is different this time, but the result is the same. I
can open another bug if you want, or I can append to this one. I'll
attach the dmesg output from my last boot where the mount failed.
Here's the /etc/fstab:

Did it happen with Gutsy?

Most importantly, it bugs me that you had to install dbus-x11 manually
(even if it doesn't fix the problem). Starting with version
0.4.1-4ubuntu1, F-Spot depends on dbus-x11, so it should be installed

[Bug 185821] [NEW] nautilus-cd-burner confusing dvd burning size error

2008-01-24 Thread Elias K Gardner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus-cd-burner

Im running Ubuntu 8.04 hardy, 64bit.
The package is nautilus-cd-burner Version: 2.21.5-0ubuntu1

To recreate: drag over 4.3 Gbit of data into the nautilus-cd-burner,
then click "Write to Disc", with single layer dvd.

"Reload a rewritable or blank disc
Please replace the disc in the drive with a supported disc with at least 7.6
GiB free. The following disc types are supported:
DVD+R DL"

While informative this error is misleading. It should be titled or start with
something like "Disc/DVD too small".
A proposed fix:

title: Not enough space on disc
body: The disc only has room for x GiB, replace it with a supported disc with
at least y GiB free. DVD+R DL support more

Hardy just shipped brasero disc burning I no longer know if nautilus is
default on a fresh hardy install.

[Bug 185818] [NEW] tar does not recognize it is running on a nfs device

2008-01-24 Thread Jordan Desroches
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tar

I'm running into a problem where tar does not seem to recognize that it
is running on a nfs v3 (sec= sys or krb5) device. The reason I think
that is the case are the leading zeros in the snapshots file:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]@[EMAIL PROTECTED]@[EMAIL PROTECTED]/chen..
[EMAIL PROTECTED]@[EMAIL PROTECTED]@[EMAIL PROTECTED]/sp etc, etc

this is causing some trouble, as when the nfs device number changes, all
of a sudden there is a full backup instead of an incremental. I first
saw this through AMANDA, but have reproduced the leading zeros on a nfs
device with:

$ /usr/local/bin/tar --create --file=archive.c.tar --listed-
incremental=./common.snar /mnt/thayerfs/common/foo

I have seen the same results under two environments:

Ubuntu Edgy
GNU tar-1.15.91-2
kernel: 2.6.17-12-generic
nfs v3

Ubuntu Gutsy
GNU tar-1.18-2

[Bug 99459] Re: [feisty] sendmail unable to automatically determine domain name

2008-01-24 Thread Tapani Tarvainen
This hit me yesterday as well.
Since the network connection in the machine in question is static, I simply
removed the lines

include(`/etc/mail/m4/dialup.m4')dnl
include(`/etc/mail/m4/provider.m4')dnl

from sendmail.mc. As far as I can tell, none of the current config tools will
put them back,
although I guess a future upgrade could do even that.

Another solution that sticks would be setting HANDS_OFF in sendmail.conf
(and that's what I'll do if some automaton starts messing with my sendmail.mc).

[Bug 147883] Re: Songs that have a space in their path are not imported automatically from watched music folders

2008-01-24 Thread Ryan Steele
Lexual, if it is in fact this bug that is causing your import errors,
manually importing the folders should work properly. The issue is just
with automatic importing.

I've also discovered that by re-selecting the Music Library location in
the Music tab in the Options window, the problem stops occurring. You
don't even have to choose a new location; just click Browse, select your
music folder, and close the preferences window. I suspect the problem
stems from a bug in interpreting a configuration file created by a
previous version of the program.

But much worse: there was a crippling slowdown of the machine -- booting
took forever, same error message returned, plus new ones about services
unable to configure, took forever to navigate, error messages eventually
would appear blank. I tried to go to Synaptic, but root password no
longer worked. Sudo password no longer accepted in terminal.

Then:

1.) Booted into Recovery Mode
2 ) apt-get remove gnome-applets
3.) apt-get install gnome-applets
4.) apt-get install ubuntu-desktop
5.) Restart computer

The computer booted up normally, with no error messages. Speed was
normal. Root password worked again.

[Bug 185629] Re: window manager crash & nonload programs

2008-01-24 Thread Susan Cragin
Re-install fixed crashes in Firefox, oddness in windows, etc. Still
sometimes have odd delays, but I don't think this bug report will
contribute anything that issue.

The only thing re-installation didn't fix was the running program icon issue
for Dragon NaturallySpeaking running with wine.
The error message I got when trying to load Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9.0 with
WINE was:
Window Manager Warning: Invalid WM_TRANSIENT_FOR window 0x2e3 specified for
0x2e5 (DragonBar)
However, I did load Skype's linux version, and the running-program icon works
for that. The problem may be with WINE.

Perhaps you should close this bug out.

[Bug 185805] [NEW] Need a way to list high urgency updates only

2008-01-24 Thread Kent Tong
Public bug reported:

This is a very serious issue for anyone deploying Ubuntu in an enterprise
environment.
We keep track of available updates to our Ubuntu LTS 6.0.6 servers using
"apt-get -s upgrade" with the feeds from the dapper-updates dist and
dapper-security dist. However, we're getting frequently many updates from the
former and most of which are non-critical ones (here is an example:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/dapper/+source/linux-meta/2.6.15.51).

Is it possible to somehow only list those with a high urgency? I can't
just remove the ubuntu-updates URL from the source list as it could
contain both critical and non-critical updates.

"My objective is to patch the Linux kernel in such a way that it can handle
defective RAM modules. With defective RAM, I mean RAM which has some bits wrong
at some (known) addresses. Normally, such RAM is considered useless and thrown
away; the larger RAMs get, the higher the chances of failing addresses. With
ever growing RAM sizes, it would therefore be pleasant to have an alternative
to discarding of defective RAM chips."

Instead of requesting this patch be added to the default linux kernel
which has been invalidated in many bug reports in the past, this is a
request for the patch to be packaged. Perhaps it could be packaged
similar to *-kernel-source, linux-patch-*, or kernel-patch-*.

I get the same thing. The letters are cut off by the highlighting on
the line below, but the "gfna" is just really odd...

[Bug 184177] Re: Compiz makes window toolbar larger than normal on default install in Gutsy

2008-01-24 Thread Nattgew
Um, wow. I didn't expect to see that. I did notice some smaller font
size changes while using Compiz, though. None of the font settings are
changed?
