[Bug 153963] Re: [PATCH] Add STAC9228 DMIC support, SRU TEST CASE

2008-02-07 Thread Keyper7
Here's my situation: I did a fresh install of Gutsy 64-bit on my new
Vostro 1400 with the following board:

00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio
Controller (rev 02)

Initially I had no sound. Following several guides and forum posts, I
added

  options snd-hda-intel model=3stack

to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base. This got sound working but with a few
problems:

1 - Sound didn't work after suspending.
2 - I could get both headphone jacks working after fiddling with the mixers,
but the second jack would
not disable the internal speakers and the jacks would not work at the same time.

Changing 3stack to 5stack fixed the first problem but not the second one. So I
tried to install the
recently released alsa-1.0.16 to see if I could fix those problems and enable
the internal mic.

I downloaded alsa-driver, alsa-firmware, alsa-lib, alsa-plugins and alsa-utils,
all 1.0.16, from the
official site and compiled them all with ./configure, make, sudo make install.

The results couldn't be worse: my card stopped being detected. So
following the guide in

  https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HdaIntelSoundHowto

I copied /lib/modules/2.6.22-14-generic/kernel/sound/pci/hda/snd-hda-intel.ko
to /lib/modules/2.6.22-14-generic/ubuntu/media/snd-hda-intel/snd-hda-intel.ko
and copied all modules in alsa's compile directory to
/lib/modules/.../kernel/sound.

After doing that and a sudo depmod -a, things got a little better: my
card was detected.

However, I now have no sound. Nothing. It's like the same situation I had after
the fresh install,
only with more mixers. As far as I know, everything is unmuted in alsamixer.

Any clues?

[Bug 189900] [NEW] Workspace switcher confused by switching between compiz and metacity

2008-02-07 Thread era
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

This could be a problem in compiz, in metacity, or in the Gnome
workspace switcher.

When I initially installed Gutsy, I set myself up with 4 x 2 workspaces.
Then I had to turn off Compiz (effectively switching to Metacity)
because of bug 133118. At that point, Metacity ended up with a fairly
weird workspace geometry, but all I had to do was right-click on the
workspace switcher and configure it back to 4x2 (I think by telling it 8
workspaces, 2 rows)

Now that 133118 is basically fixed, I switched back, and found myself
with the opposite problem: there are ghost workspaces from metacity
but compiz has this weird idea that there are 7 workspaces in a single
row (even though the preferences have 8, I can only switch between 7 of
them) and the workspace switcher displays another row underneath which I
cannot switch to.

Again, opening up the preferences and reconfiguring to 4x2 fixed this;
but it would be neat if it worked without these haphazard artefacts (and
also if the geometry was conceptualized the same way in both window
managers, i.e. either rows x columns or number of workspaces in how many
rows ... I think I prefer the former, as that doesn't have corner cases
like you would have with 7 in 2 rows, or 8 in 3 rows).

(Incidentally, I also have this on a different box where I use Sawfish
as my preferred window manager; again, it uses a different facility for
configuring the workspace and viewport geometry, which is not in sync
with the Gnome workspace switcher.)

Ubuntu 7.10, all of -proposed -securty -backports enabled

[Bug 189901] [NEW] Ubuntu 7.10 fails to boot when using GRUB's automatically chosen boot menu item

2008-02-07 Thread Hendy Irawan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: grub

Ubuntu boots fine if after the GRUB menu shows, I'm picking the menu
item manually by pressing ENTER on the keyboard.

If I let the GRUB timeout expire, Ubuntu doesn't boot and immediately
restarts.

I'm using a Microsoft Comfort Curve 2000 USB keyboard and BIOS set to
'emulate legacy USB keyboard' if that helps. Because without that
option, Ubuntu's GRUB, Ubuntu LiveCD, in addition to many other boot-
time applications cannot use the keyboard at all.

This seems to be somewhat configuration-specific as many other computers
boot fine with GRUB.

I think it also relates to the Linux kernel.

I've tried experimenting with/disabling the following GRUB options, they have
no effect to resolving this problem:
* hiddenmenu
* quiet
* splash

[Bug 189761] Re: Wrong localised keyboard layout

2008-02-07 Thread plun
It must be the same but Mr Bacher must maybe change/clarify it a little.

The bug is that despite of settings US/English keyboard is chosen.

I have only swedish keyboard within my settings box and it still chooses
english keyboard
after reboot.

If I just chooses another key board model, correct language is then
choosen until next reboot.

Maybe its also a bug within overall language settings because I cannot set
English, US or GB
without error that this language is missing. English and Swedish language
packs installed.

[Bug 186797] Re: Lyx has several packaging problems

2008-02-07 Thread Vincenzo Ciancia
Regarding the text in the toolbar and menues, I suggest to look at bug
#57578 . Try to remove the ttf-arphic-uming package and see if it
improves the quality of menus. As for the lyx logo, I have it in gnome-
menus, maybe there's been an update? For (3), perhaps a lyx-minimal
package could be created instead, and the default installation could
depend on obviously useful packages that almost everybody will want -
this is just a suggestion.

[Bug 152917] Re: evolution appointment timezone issues

2008-02-07 Thread Iulian Udrea
Thank you for your bug report. You reported this bug a while ago and
there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this
still an issue for you? I couldn't reproduce this in Hardy, Evolution
2.21.90. Can you try to reproduce with latest version of Evolution?

Thank you!

[Bug 83339] Re: opengl over remote X (over ssh) crashes X

2008-02-07 Thread Bogdan Butnaru
I tried it with an X server on an up-to-date Hardy, with an glxgears
running on a Gutsy (I don't have access to two Hardy machines). It
doesn't crash, but it works with a frame every few seconds. Would this
be a bug, or is this expected behavior? (It pretty much means OpenGL
isn't usable at all on a remote X).

$ ssh -X zalmox.lan glxgears
libGL error: open DRM failed (Operation not permitted)
libGL error: reverting to (slow) indirect rendering

For the record, ssh -X localhost glxgears works, but I don't know if
it actually uses a remote connection to communicate to the local X
server. (It does leave ghosts of the window on the desktop when it
moves, though.)

Re: [Bug 160628] Re: screen goes blank and the power manager is not configured to do that

2008-02-07 Thread santins
It goes blank if the computer is inactive around 10 or 15 minutes. It always
happens in that situation.

2008/2/7, Greg Grossmeier [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

 Santins,

How often does the screen go blank? Is it predictable?

Also, this bug seems like it is related to the other you reported (bug

[Bug 43066] Re: Window list behaves bad when panel is vertical.

2008-02-07 Thread paskma
I've recorded demonstration of this bug, it can be found here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhCbnq08roA

It shows how the gnome panel completely freezes when more than 7 windows
is opened. Demonstrated on Hardy Alpha4, GNOME 2.21. This bug makes
vertical panel usage completely unusable.

This bug appeared in GNOME 2.20 (in 2.18 it was not perfect but it
worked). There are patches available in GNOME bugzilla #86382 but they
were not integrated.

[Bug 189406] Re: [Hardy] Update Manager doesn't display package versions anymore

2008-02-07 Thread F-3582
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: update-manager

This has been happening for a few weeks, already.

Update Manager used to show the version changes below the package
  descriptions (as shown at http://polishlinux.org/reviews/feisty-fawn-
michuk/upgrade.png for example). However, one day it stopped doing this
- which I find pretty inconvenient.
+ which I find pretty inconvenient for the following reasons:
+
+ - You have to select each package separately in order to see the version
change in the package change logs.
+ - These change logs aren't always available, so sometimes you won't even see
what Update Manager is exactly doing.
+ - You cannot see whether the package is new or just got upgraded from a lower
version.
+ - You also cannot see that lower version, by the way.

  Please bring this feature back.

[Bug 189911] [NEW] Gnome zeroconf applet not correctly configured to open VNC sessions

2008-02-07 Thread Wowbagger
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

Given:
1) a workstation on the local network which is advertising a VNC session via
Zeroconf
2) A second workstation on the local network running Gnome and the Zeroconf
applet

Selecting the first workstation's exported VNC session in the applet of
the second workstation does not correctly launch vncview - instead the
following error message appears.

VNC Viewer Free Edition 4.1.1 for X - built Sep 10 2007 17:17:04

See http://www.realvnc.com for information on VNC.

usage: xvncviewer [parameters] [host:displayNum] [parameters]
   xvncviewer [parameters] -listen [port] [parameters]

(rest of help message omitted).

Analysis:
It looks like the vnc program is NOT being invoked with any parameters.

[Bug 182719] Re: Shortcuts don't work in KDE 4

2008-02-07 Thread tinin
This is the same bug, duplicated. Now I include it here
#bug183047
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/meta-kde4/+bug/183047

##
KDE4 keyboard shortcuts not working (Alt+F2, Ctrl+Esc, PrtSc...)

Hi, this is a kubuntu gutsy pc,
I installed a clean kde4.0 from ppa.
it's always updated and upgraded

I use kataput very often in 3.5.8, I expected keyboard shortcuts like alt+f2 to
show krunner in kde4 but it does not.
krunner is running yet in the background, and it shows when I run it in a
terminal.

Also:
Ctrl+Esc does not show ksysguard (I don't know the name for kde4 version)
PrtSc does not show ksnapshot
Win key does not show the kmenu, as i'd like to

Also trying to modify it in the systems preferences under the keyboard and
mouse menu does not work.
It does not matter the key combinations assignated

##

 tinin wrote on 2008-01-15: (permalink)

As seen here (I copy and paste the text) this is an unresolved bug
http://software-libre.rudd-o.com/KDE_4.0.0_emergency_FAQ#Global_shortcuts_.28ALT.2BF2_for_KRunner.2C_ALT.2BTab.2C_etc.29_aren.27t_working.3F.21

Global shortcuts (ALT+F2 for KRunner, ALT+Tab, etc) aren't working?!

Several people have mentioned this. This is an unexpected bug, it could
be that:

   1. kded is not running, or
   2. that the GlobalAccel KDED module is not loaded.

The latter issue can be determined by issuing

qdbus org.kde.kded

from konsole and seeing if KdedGlobalAccel appears in the output. If you
get Service 'org.kde.kded' does not exist. you may issue

kded4

to restart the daemon, followed by

qdbus org.kde.kded /kded loadModule kdedglobalaccel

to try to load the module. If KdedGlobalAccel does not appear, then you
have this problem, a fix isn't know, yet.

There is a bug report filed at bugs.kde.org:
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=155429

##

 tinin wrote on 2008-01-17: (permalink)

As seen at http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=155429
I deleted ~/.kde4/share/config/kglobalshortcutsrc and then Ctrl+Alt+Backspace
Now it is working properly

##

 EdNavarro wrote on 2008-01-21: (permalink)

I removed kde4-core (remove followed by autoremove), then deleted both
my ~./kde and ~/.kde4 folders. Reinstalled kde4-core and rebooted. When
I activated special effects I left improved alt-tab unchecked. Shortcuts
work fine now.

I noticed previously that shortcuts only worked if I left the shortcuts
configuration window up in the background...

##

Giorgio Catanzaro wrote on 2008-02-03: (permalink)

I got the same, but only after installing (Italian) localization (before
everything worked fine). The same for bug #182719 for German one. I
fixed setting Italian locale and languages, and automatically kded4
loaded kdedglobalaccel module.

##

I tried weblogin.jsp, but that didn't do anything (I cannot enter an
underscore ( _ ), so I cannot enter perfigo_weblogin.jsp).

[Bug 150930] Re: Black screen, and bad usplash.conf after installation

2008-02-07 Thread Harvey Muller
Saïvann Carignan:

Thank you for clarifying. I was unaware this bug report was for the
Hardy Desktop i386 edition.

I've installed Hardy Desktop i386 Alpha 4 as you recommended and can
confirm this bug is NOT an issue for this edition on my hardware. I
will continue to watch bug 147623 instead.

The only related issue with the i386 edition is the blank ttys, but
that's a different bug.

Appreciate your assistance!

Harvey
